A1 Fish & Chips in Bolton

Called in for a chicken curry and boiled rice, we also had a salt and pepper wings starter. Will not be rushing back there, the curry was more than half the tub onion. The curry was like jelly, it was set in the tub. The wings were over cooked and tasted old as though they had been recooked. Such a shame as this pave was ok at one time.

Last time I use this chippy. We first moved to the area 4 years ago and this chippy was the place to go. We ordered from here a few months ago and it was nothing like it use to be. Tonight, after our go to chippy is closed for a month (MANS PALACE) we decided to give it another go. Pale greasy chips that look like they was boiled in oil not fried Mushy peas so wet I could of took a bath in them and a sausage so pale and undercooked I folded it in half and it didn’t even break the skin. I waited a hour for this food to then drive around and be greeted with a surprised face like the food was perfectly fine. Don’t waste your money

Tried A1 for a change from our usual Chinese takeaway. Tasteless curry just like gravy. Singapore fried rice bland. Once bitten never again. How they stay open I'll never know.

Never had a bad takeaway from here. Superb salt and pepper ribs, chicken curry and beef in blackbean sauce !

Called around 6PM Friday, no one in when I got there and no one came in while I waited, no wonder after tasting the chips!!! Won't waste my money there again!

This a fabulous chip shop. Both the restaurant and the take away. Have been many times and we are never disappointed. Mind you they fry in Beef Dripping so not good for vegetarians or vegans. They really are great chips, we don't know what they do to them but they stand out from the rest. Although Mary Jane's in Cromer is very good too.

We ordered food and when it arrived it was completely incorrect. When I rang to tell them the lady said she wouldn’t deliver the correct order as they were busy, even though we had paid and they even had the cheek to charge me a delivery fee...shocking. STAY AWAY

I frequent A1 at least once a month for a family Chinese takeaway meal as a treat and am always happy with the food and the service, really good portion sizes and always cracking chips. Top tip is to ring your order through then collect, they cook everything from fresh so it can take 10 mins or so.

I have gone to A1 a number of times because, yeah... the food is ok, but the service is absolutely awful. Whatever you do, at lunchtime don't ask for anything other than chips, pies, fish or sausage. I once asked if they server the Chinese menu and got san abrupt "No!". I once asked for rice "No rice!", On my last visit, I asked for Salt & Pepper chips which is on the fish & chips menu and was told "Too busy!" No wonder she was saying business is slow! I don't care if the food is 'above reasonable', I will not be going again. Last rant... they are expensive too.

Superb Chinese/English takeaway. I recommend the Ribs and the salt and pepper chips. The staff are really helpful and everything is cooked fresh .

Good quality but tasteless. Think its dead cute how one of the staff askes you what you want before you've come through the door and looked at the menu

Stopped here for a easy meal after traveling all day as our normal takeaway doesn't open Sunday's. Salt and pepper wings, duck, special fried rice and Thai king prawns. All food tasted ok but later that evening the girlfriend and I started to feel sick. Myself spending all of that night and some of the next day being sick and the girlfriend who is still suffering almost 24 hours later with sickness and stomach cramps. I have just spoke to the staff about this and was given a full refund. The staff assured me that they have a food hygiene rating of 4/5 but this isn't on display because there is no space in the window.. it's a very empty window. The staff also keen to find out what our address was asking a number of times for the door number then tuck a few random guesses of the door number themselves.. found that a little strange! Unfortunately rating as 0 stars is not a options so it's a 1 but other than being refunded we can't recommend

Just a small local chinese chippy. Hard working staff - who are willing to talk about their menu. The crispy duck was just like old times - fresh and tasty. The fish and chips are always prepared when ordered. I haven't tried the jumbo sausages - they look awesome but I'm sure they're also not part of a healthy diet. We will be going back.

Go here maybe once a month absolutely brilliant the Singapore chow mein is superb curry sauce best ever had

I don't have too many takeaway meals but A1 offer a huge range of Chinese,Thai and Malaysian cuisine made with locally sourced meats,as well as what I believe are the best fish & chips in the town.Chicken with cashew nuts is one of my usual choices as it's always tender and tasty. With good sized portions and pleasant counter staff this takeaway is well worth a visit.
