Please, spend your hard earned money on something else or somewhere else. Try nearby Harrods, they also serve high tea in case you want to enjoy this British tradition. There is no atmosphere, no great service and very little food for the $150 per couple that the whole thing comes to.

We had a lovely time at The Capital's Afternoon tea! Five finger sandwiches were followed by three delicious pastries and ending with two scones. Fewer sweets than expected, but it was made up for by the friendly staff who took great care of us. We were asked if we wanted more of anything, and got more tea and five additional sandwiches without hesitation. The room was beautiful and we left with a smile!

We wanted to experience an English Afternoon Tea, and were pleasantly treated to a wonderful interlude to the London rain. The staff were impeccable in their service, especially Martin, who was attentive, polite, and most accommodating. The food was excellent, and the highlight, the cakes were marvellous. I must say the scones were delicious and I felt that I could continue eating a few more! Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed the treat of afternoon English tea at Brown's Hotel. The setting was lovely ~ and toasty for us as we were in front of the fireplace. The food was scrumptious and very beautifully presented. Yanka was the person who attended to us and she was wonderful. She offered as much as we wanted and even had us try an additional tea. The atmosphere was elegant but not 'stuffy' ~ very comfortable. We opted to have champagne with our tea and treats - yum! We were quite sated by the last morsel! Expensive ~ but sometimes it is worth it to splurge!

In 2016 the tea was splendid. This time it wasn’t. Both the gluten free and regular tea offerings were poor. My gluten free bread was dry and the few pastries were unimaginative. A bowl of berries, two pastries and three tiny scones, with a small pot of jam and clotted cream on a cake stand. The regular tea also had minimal choices. My expectations were high based on my previous visit. That time, the cake stand was full of delicious pastries and the service was superb. I mentioned this to our waiter when he asked if my visits were comparable. Our waiter was friendly, but didn’t offer to replenish our tea, forgot my wine and disappeared for at least 30 minutes towards the end. It was very disappointing, especially for a 5 star hotel. I do not recommend afternoon tea here and will not return.

We had a very disappointing experience with afternoon tea. Our group has been to many afternoon teas in London, but this was certainly the worst experience we ever had. We booked for 6 people for 5pm and were seated. The tea came 30 minutes after seating and we waited 20 minutes for a refill of the tea, the sandwiches 45 minutes after seating and the pastries more than 90 minutes after seating even though we asked them to bring it all together. After 90 minutes, one of our party had to leave, so he notified the kitchen, that he will not be around for the pastries and that this should be reflected by the bill. It was not. So he was charged £35 for 4 finger sandwiches and 1 pot of tea, because he thought that 90 minutes were enough for a full afternoon tea. When it came to the bill, they charged £35 instead of the £29.50 advertised on the website. We had to negotiate with them for a long time to get the advertised price and staff became very rude in the process. Absolutely shocking customer service. We will surely never come here again.

Four of us visited for afternoon tea at 2pm on Saturday 18th November. The staff at the hotel were amazing - from those that greeted us on our arrival to the lovely lady who looked after us for the afternoon. I can't recommend the afternoon tea enough. The hotel has a great atmosphere and the staff work so hard to make it a great experience. The location of the hotel is right by Harrods and easily accessible from Knightsbridge tube station. Having experienced afternoon tea in a number of settings, including the Ritz, I have to say that this was up there with the best. The difference at the Capital Hotel is the staff. They really make you feel welcome with their attentiveness and genuine desire to do a great job. Thank you to the team. We'll definitely be back for a further visit.

This place used to be good and the service impeccable. It was welcoming and pleasant. You could walk in and have a cup of tea in the lounge. Nowadays it’s not only dated but the service is impersonal and you can’t have your tea in the lounge anymore, you have to make a reservation for an afternoon tea. Go to any other decent hotel in london and you’ll have your tea without having to book the damn tea. Go to the Baglioni Or Browns where you will be welcomed with open arms. In short. Rubbish and only for the harrods tourists.

We had a very average afternoon tea experience. The sandwiches were tasteless except for the smoked salmon one. The 'matcha' bread could basically have been green food colouring and coupled with cucumber you might as well have been eating water. The desserts were small and extremely sweet. I know sweetness is expected - and I do love a cup of tea with a piece of cake - but these were over the top. Only go if you are addicted to sugar. The fresh scones were nice. The tea selections were nice and I had a very interesting smoky selection. My partner had a very good coffee instead of tea.The service started well but then disappeared half way through as they focused on newcomers and ignored us. We had to wait about 25 minutes to pay the bill.Overall, go to a more notable 5* hotel for a treat e.g. one on Park Lane. Even if it costs more you'll get a more worthwhile experience and better value for money,

My friends and I have been going out to brunch or tea monthly for most of 2017, and was the worst of the ones we've been to so far. Food: Pretty standard tea sandwiches with a surprise 'matcha tea' bread (didn't taste of matcha though). They did offer us additional sandwiches after our first serving, but the sandwiches were not that great. The fillings were too thin (except the salmon, which was nice). The cakes were better and there was one cake which was a favourite (sponge with caramel creme and chocolate ganache icing). The macaroons were very dry and not all of us liked the elderflower jelly (too sweet). We had to ask three different people for extra cream and jam for the scones, but more on the service later. DrinksThis was advertised as 'free flowing Bellinis and Cosmos', which is only partly true. We had to keep asking for refills and this was never consistent. Sometimes someone came around and filled our glasses, sometimes our glasses were taken away and replaced, sometimes we had no glasses. One of us was drinking cosmos and her drink was served in a different type of glass every time. The Bellinis were so sugary and heavy on the peach that you could not taste the prosecco at all (you couldn't even see the bubbles). I couldn't finish my cakes because I was full and overdosed with sugar from the Bellinis. ServiceWow. This was the most bizarre service we've ever had. It started off OK, as the gentleman who seated us took our orders and got our teas right, but it went downhill from there. One waitress was seriously clueless: she filled up my Bellini and left my friend's drink empty so that we had to ask her to refill it. She stared at us as if we'd asked her for nuclear launch codes before her colleague prompted her to get on with it. When bringing new tea, she brought the wrong one and then left the empty pots on the table, so her manager had to step in but he made it worse (eg taking away all the pots, new and empty, and mixing up the teas so that both friends' teas ended up in each others' cups). She did bring out new pots, but she forgot the cups, so she had to go back and get those, and on and on and on. ConclusionThere are so many great afternoon teas in London, and this is not one of them. Maybe if they make some improvements then yes, but as of my visit I wouldn't recommend it.

My friend and I booked the Afternoon Tea with bottomless cocktails for a well anticipated catch-up and we were thoroughly impressed with our experience. The hotel itself is beautiful; very typically 'British' and very fitting being just a stones throw away from Harrods. The interiors, furnishing and service was all perfect. We were sat in one of the smaller rooms upstairs and offered a selection of teas and coffees, as well as the bellinis and cosmopolitan cocktails. Both of these were delicious - we sampled many!We were given a plate of sandwiches and talked through the selection. After finishing, we were offered more. And then more after that!Next came the sweet selection; scones, elderflower jelly, macarons, chocolate cake and sponge cake. It was beautifully presented on the typical afternoon tea stand and it was all delicious. Our tea began at 3.30 and we were still there at half 6! Soon, they needed to clear the room for a function, but our lovely waiter Camil invited us downstairs to the bar to continue with our cocktails.Overall, it was an amazing experience - we felt like VIPs and it was great quality and excellent value for money.

Not a very impressive afternoon tea at The Capital Hotel, Knightsbridge. Yes, it was a good deal - £30 for afternoon tea with 'unlimited' cocktails but a five star hotel should be doing much better than what we encountered. I had booked the tea over two months before - a surprise treat for my mother, and I had called twice to confirm that our request for a window table was noted. We arrived - the window table was occupied. The waiter informed us that the table would be available very shortly. Over one hour later the table was still not available. The room itself was tiny and soulless. The staff were very friendly but the service was appalling - probably amongst the worst I have encountered in the hundreds of afternoon teas I have partaken! The cocktails were 'unlimited' but at no time were we offered another glass. Every time we wanted another cocktail or a fresh pot of tea we had to ask the waiter. I also notice that previous reviews have remarked about this and that promises have been made to improve upon this. So why hasn't this improved? I had to walk to reception on three occasions to ask if we could have another cocktail. I even had to go to reception to settle the bill as no waiters appeared for over 15 minutes. For a five star hotel one would expect far better service. Very disappointing.

My daughter and I pre booked afternoon tea with the bonus of free flowing cocktails for up to 2 hours to celebrate her 21st birthday. We emailed ahead to check whether we could alter the sandwich fillings and Cesar quickly responded and agreed to our request. We had a warm welcome at reception. Unfortunately the waiters did not appear to be aware of my email re the sandwiches so we needed to repeat our request. They once again agreed to make us alternative sandwiches which we really appreciated. We were surprised by the small amount of sandwiches and thought that perhaps we would be offered more. This did not happen. The small plain and fruit scones were absolutely delicious and as we were still hungry we asked for more. Although our request was handled professionally we got the impression that this request was not welcomed. Indeed we had to ask about 15 minutes later as the scones had not arrived. My tea did not arrive until after the sandwiches and that was after I had chased it. The cakes were acceptable, although the macaroon tasted nice it had a strange texture. We had a choice of cosmopolitans or peach Bellini - both were very good. We sampled both. At no point were we asked whether we wanted another cocktail but when we did ask they were made freshly to order and arrived in good time. To summarise. The waiters were courteous but not proactive in any way. I was not asked whether I wanted my tea refreshing or whether we wanted another cocktail or any more sandwiches/ scones. We enjoy afternoon tea frequently both in London and outside London. This is the first time that we have not automatically been offered more food or tea. The price we paid was good purely because of the addition of the cocktails. I think that there are other hotels offering afternoon tea which we would prefer to return to.

From start to finish the staff were wonderful and made the celebration of our friends daughter's 18 birthday an afternoon to remember. The Bellinis accompanied a beautifully executed traditional afternoon tea a few steps from Harrods. Thank you to all the staff who took great care to make this a special afternoon for us all.

By far the best Afternoon Tea I have ever experienced in my life. My mother and I came to London for her birthday and we looked at some afternoon tea places and finally chose The Sitting Room of the Capital hotel. I could honestly say that making that decision was one of the best ones we have ever made. The food was amazing, the macarons and the little sandwiches were impeccable. Moreover, we tried two different teas, the white and the green tea which were both tasty and balanced well with the food. The place looked very quaint and regal, just what you would expect from a fine hotel eatery. The service was also top notch. We were treated with such great customer service that makes us want to be back. Overall, this place is fantastic and highly recommend it!

We had afternoon tea for three today at the Capital Hotel. The Sitting Room was intimate and had a lovely traditional ambience. Our waiter, Jacek was charming and very attentive, which made the whole experience very enjoyable. The food was beautifully presented and every element tasted absolutely delicious. Free flowing bellinis included, this afternoon tea was brilliant value for money at £30pp. Just a stone's throw from Harrods it was the perfect addition to our shopping trip! We would certainly come back again and recommend it to our friends.

My husband and myself booked an afternoon tea in the sitting room for our 19 year old son and 21 year old daughter who was celebrating her birthday. We arrived early and had a pleasant drink in the hotels bar, service was excellent. We were taken though on our planned time for the afternoon tea, sadly this is where our experience went down hill... seated in a room with no windows, so NO natural light and brightly lit with electric lights which was sad as it was a beautiful sunny afternoon outside! The room had no atmosphere it was like being in a box off all the other rooms, we were in this room with 2 other parties. The background music on a Sonos kept going off, probably because the wifi was so weak. The service was excellent, good choice of teas.Sandwiches were just ok nothing wow about them compared to other afternoon teas we have had.Second course of cakes, jelly and scones were pleasant enough though. All in all sadly let down by the environment we were in, certainly wasn't in the "sitting room"Food was just average, staff were excellent, but mostly it was nice to have quality time as a family.

We had a lovely afternoon here in the cozy little sitting room type area of this hotel. We had a warm welcome from the staff and enjoyed some lovely cocktails before hand. This afternoon tea was really good value for money and the portions for everything was perfect. I was able to eat everything on there without feeling too sick or full. They even offered a lovely selection of tea, I went for the rose tea which was fragrant. If you cannot finish everything, it can be boxed up to take home, which is helpful. Just one thing to bear in mind, if you want extra cake, sandwiches etc it does come at an extra charge.

The scones are delicious! Excellent sandwiches too. Very good value for money and pleasant service. The room is rather small and cramped, so conversations can be overheard. Good selection of tea.

Arriving a cold afternoon, we were greeted warmly by a very sweet waitress. We were seated in a very lovely room which looked like it was taken out of an old photo. The scene was set. First we had finger sandwiches, all nice but not necessarily anything special. Then came the scones with clothed cream and jam. Not my cup of tea - joke aside - but the scones were nice. The sweets were so-so. One of the cakes was not my taste and the jelly tasted like sour wine. The price tag was fair and the teas was good but I am not sure I would do this every time I come to England.

We booked this based on the photographs of the Christmas afternoon tea and it did not disappoint. The food was fresh and tasty as well as beautifully presented. Our favourites were the mini scones and the creamy lemon cheesecake... delicious! Service was good although we could have been checked on more to give us the opportunity to request refills. Food that we could not eat was boxed up for us to take home and the staff were friendly. We did have to wait a little while for our bill and the service charge was automatically added as there were five of us. All in all, a nice afternoon with family.

We were staying at the Capital Hotel for two nights, and we reserved a table for afternoon tea. The hotel itself was quite lovely. The staff at the entrance was extremely attentive and accommodating. One member of our party had multiple prior stays at the hotel, and the greeting that we received was almost too much. As for the tea service, there were things that were extremely well done, but others that fell short of expectations for a hotel of this caliber and price point. On the positive side, you have a very nice assortment of teas to choose from, and we all found a tea that we greatly enjoyed. I particularly liked the delicate silver needle Jasmine tea. The selection of sweet and savory treats is extensive and attractively presented. This included four finger sandwiches, with I believe four different types of bread made in house. I thought the offering with a curried chicken was particularly good. The other three featured cucumber, smoked salmon, and ham and cheese as I recall. There were four small sweets, three of which were pastry-based and the fourth an interesting fruit gel served in a conical glass adorned with fresh fruit. They were individually pleasant, and collectively satisfying. To me, the highlight was the scones, and more particularly the plain scone. Sometimes less is more. I would have been happy with just a large platter of plain scones. So what was disappointing? There are restaurants where the service is almost invisible in a good sense. Your needs are anticipated, and things are removed or appear or added to at just the right time, and without any prompting. You can enjoy your companions, and the wait staff does not at all intrude on your experience. It is lovely when it happens, and the higher the level and more outstanding the reputation of the establishment, the greater the expectation that this delightful level of service will be part of your overall experience. Unfortunately on the day that we visited, this was not the case. We were seated, and during the entire course of our sojourn in the sitting room, there were four other customers. So in total, the staff waited on seven customers. The sandwiches, sweets, and scones are all served at once. We chose to have tea rather than cocktails. The tea is served in clear glass pots. The beauty of a transparent pot is that you can see when the water level has fallen without entering the dining room. You simply need to make it a point to look. We all sat for quite a few minutes hoping that one of the two waiters would come into view so that we could get their attention and get a refresh on hot water; our pots were empty or nearly so. If it had been very busy, I would overlook this, but in view of the rather small number of customers, I would have expected more attentive service. We had a similar issue with getting the bill to sign. We ultimately had to visit the front desk because we tired of waiting for someone to make an appearance. Judging from the number of times other patrons were turning towards the entrance to the sitting room, perhaps they were also wondering where our waiters had gone. Now perhaps this was singular, and on that day something else was taking place that distracted the wait staff. However, this shouldn’t have happened, it was a bit disappointing, and detracted from an otherwise very pleasant experience. Would I go back again? Yes, but if our first experience repeated itself, then it would be my last afternoon tea at the Capital Hotel.

I have always been coming here to bring friends visiting from outside of London, or from other countries for a catch up over tea, coffee or a drink. And as always, the capital hotel team, never ceases to impress... And has never ever disappointed. Their customer service is just as impeccable as when I first came here! My most recent visit was with my friend and her parents visiting from Italy. It was wonderful! The team made us feel very special! My friend's mum who was celebrating her birthday was beyond happy! Special mention to Lorena, who made sure we were being looked after well. We are very grateful and appreciative! Also to Cesar and his team at the bar, thanks so much! The concierge even obliged to take us a photo! What an unexpected beautiful experience which I'm sure my friend and her parents would treasure! Well done to your amazing team! Looking forward to going back and introduce it to more friends of mine! My huge appreciation and thanks! Best wishes! K Diva

We walked into The Capital Hotel and soon everyone from the staff was so welcoming and professional! The cosy sitting room is intimate and beautifully classy decored as the rest of the hotel. We started with a glass of champagne followed by a huge selection of sandwiches, amazing pastries and at last warm baked scoones (thank you Clive Outlaw) Sure the chef knows what he is doing. Pedro, the friendly waiter, made sure our tea cup was never empty but without being intrusive! I really reccomend this place if you like good food relaxing in a lovely surrounding! Ps. To mention: chicken coronation sandwiches and Lorena what a great personality! Giuseppe

Nice hotel but afternoon tea was disappointing. Went with a friend today and requested vegetarian afternoon tea so no beef, chicken or ham. They said they would provide us with extras to replace the meat sandwiches but instead gave us two tiny pieces of cheese and cucumber for two of us to share! We ordered more sandwiches which we were told would be included in the price but were charged £100!! Very disappointed.Never seen One tiny tray of afternoon two for two. Very disappointing as it was my friend's first afternoon experience and i highly recommended the place due to recommendation from tripadvisor. When I saw the place empty I should have known something wasn't right.Skip this afternoon tea and head of to better more generous ones where you don't get ripped off! Its otherwise a pretty little sitting room with a nice little loo but i shall not be returning.

Afternoon Tea with Mum, Sisters and Nieces - very relaxing and fun. Cesar and the team looked after us so well and said we could stay as long as we wanted. We ordered some extra savories which was no problem at all but then we found we were too full for the scones, so they kindly boxed them up for us so we could take them home. We upgraded to the Champagne package and they didn't skimp on the glasses. Lovely hotel, great location in between Harrods and Harvey Nichols. We will definitely be back again for afternoon tea and a drink or two in the bar.

Organised for my wife to have afternoon tea there ( after purchasing a voucher from groupon). When we arrived in our smart casual clothes we were send upstairs to the afternoon tea room ( there's also one downstairs and am unsure if only smart dressed people can sit there).Overall; quality of food was good and well presented, quantity not great, particularly the sandwiches, service was slow and average bearing in mind that there were only three tables occupied with a total of 8 people. Tea is optional and NOT included ( in the voucher). Other drinks prices are a little expensive. £11.50 for a 125ml glass of wine. Would I rush back? Probably not. Worth paying the full price without the voucher? Definitely not.,

We had read some reviews before booking afternoon tea and decided on The Capital Hotel for a few reasons -- location from the hotel we were staying at (The Rembrandt); the price not being too high; some quite favourable reviews and the fact that you didn't need to have a jacket and tie (some do have this requirement). The service we got was amazing. The room very nice, and a bonus was that we arrived early so had a drink in the bar and they also had our afternoon tea served to us before our actual time we had booked. This also had us as the only ones in the sitting room, with a table for two by the window. Apparently, the Queen had sat at the table behind ours when this opened. The food was very good and more than we could eat, so they gave us a box to take a few items home with. This looked like a beautiful boutique hotel and if I'm back in London, I will definitely check it out as a place to stay. It is right near Harrods off the main street.I would recommend this place for Afternoon Tea. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Went to the capital hotel for afternoon tea with my husband as it was our wedding anniversary. We were very disappointed as we walked in and was told to wait in the bar which we did I'm not sure who it was but the person worked there he couldn't even get off his stool in the bar to assist us we felt extremely awkward then eventually we were shown to our table. The staff who waited on us were extremely pleasant but sadly it took forever to receive our food. We asked for a couple more sandwiches before we ate our cakes this took over 30 minutes we weren't offered fresh tea. We have had many afternoon teas in London but sadly this was the worst.

Lovely welcome on arrival, table was in a smaller room from the main area but not a problem as the room was charming. Unfortunately I would not return here again as I did not think the food provided was acceptable and when we asked for a fresh pot of tea we were told that they could not give a fresh pot but would give hot water as the tea would be fine. When I asked for a clean cup I had to remind them twice to do so. This was my third afternoon tea with friends but not third time lucky

Recomendable

We both had the pie & mash bowl with 1/2 beef gravy & 1/2 “liquor” (a greenish gravy) & we loved it. The owner was very personable and proud of the reputation she’s built over the decades. It was the best local fare we had in London and also the most affordable meal during our stay. But bring CASH. No cards are accepted.
