Ahar Indian & Bangladeshi cuisine in North Tyneside

I've eaten in many Indian restaurants over the years, but none of them have been better or as good as this one. Excellent food and staff very courteous and professional.

Superb Tandoori mixed grill on Christmas day.

Went out their way to squeeze us in without a reservation on a busy Saturday night. Fantastic food, the meat is cooked in a real tandoor oven, not gas and you can taste it. Great service, great curries and will absolutely visit again! Thanks 😊

I’ve loved Bangladeshi food for most of my life. I grew up on it, I’ve tried so many places and never had such a consistent and wonderful experience as I have going to Ahar. Fiz the owner is a superb host and the restaurant is a warm and welcoming place, for solo visits or with friends and family. I’ve never had a meal that wasn’t brilliant here but tonight I think I reached Valhalla. The lamb mustard bhuna might just be the best curry I’ve ever eaten. The difference with Ahar is in the details. Authentic food, real charcoal tandoor oven and the best ingredients. Why are you wasting your time going anywhere else, this should be your only port of call.

I could write a novel about how brilliant the service and food is from this restaurant, but I'll keep it short. This may be the best curry (keema & chicken tika) I've ever had in 50 years of eating indian food 😋, can't wait to visit the next time I'm in whitleybay.. absolutely delicious food guys . This has to be the best curry house in Whitley bay, my wife loves the mango curry her new favourite dish and the ghost roshun mirch is my new favourite dish, the meat is so tender and flavoursome We would definitely recommend this place to family and friends Thanks Ahar

Went on a Thursday, which is supposed to be tapas style... but you only get that menu if you're a regular. The food was ok. The service was pretty poor.

Simply the best Indian/Asian in the area. I’ve lived in london, Leeds, Birmingham and Manchester… all with famous Indian areas and this is as good as anything I’ve eaten. It’s not you big standard menu but it has the standards.. and it’s all excellent

Popped in and picked up a takeaway. The service was excellent. Glad I didn’t eat in because the phone rings off the hook and that would annoy me. The curry was good, lamb madras good but the butter chicken was very sweet and pale, it lacked the depth of flavour a good butter chicken has and the turmeric colour. Naans and rice were good too.

Tried for the first time last night, ordered from the tapas menu. Very impressed, the food was lovely and the staff were polite and friendly, recommended.

The food was ok. Ordered a bottle of fizz and starters for two and just some pappadoms as we were not very hungry. The waiter made a funny face and left even I wasn't finished talking to him. Other staff came back with our drinks and the waiter who was rude came back to clear some plates. I told him that we would like some more pappadoms and he was snappy to me saying 'will give u" and he left. It was very unpleasant experience there. I will never go back there again. ‐----‐---------------------------------------------- After I left this review ,the manager or the owner commented about my review. Saying , I should stay away from them and they've done nothing wrong. Really shocking respond. It showed that they have no interests in customer service and totally wrong attitudes to run the business. Obviously they thought it was wrong thing to say publicly and erased the their comment.

Just got home from a wonderful Christmas lunch at ahar. Very cosy atmosphere as usual the staff were great very attentive. Food was amazing they had a 5 course Christmas menu for £35 per person which was really reasonable and included starter main rice nan and sweet all very delicious. We will be back soon thanks very much .

Went on a Monday evening so it was pretty quiet. They had more options than I thought there would be for dairy free and veggie. I enjoyed the food but my husband said the naan was disappointing. Staff were polite if a little over eager.

For anyone visiting Whitley Bay, or people who live here, although they'll certainly know the Ahar, this is quite simply the best Indian and tandoori cuisine in the area. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Best around.

Visited this week with my family of four. Every single thing we ordered, including starters, meat and veggie dishes, was absolutely delicious. Fresh, succulent and nicely spiced. Even my very picky 12 year old loved her korma! Really friendly and courteous service too. Fantastic little restaurant, will definitely visit again next time we're up.

We have just had the most fantastic meal made very special for our 41st wedding anniversary. We have been going there since they opened and is still the best indian in Whitley bay both for food service and atmosphere would not go anywhere else.

Top class service, nice cozy restaurant and the food was to die for. Will definitely visit again when we're next in the area. Will need to try a tandoori dish next time as the Tandoori mixed grill looked amazing; another customer on the table next to us was eating that dish.

Visiting Whitley Bay for the weekend, friends visited a few weeks ago & recommended this restaurant. Fantastic starters followed by amazing main course. Well worth a visit if your in the area.

The food was first-class very tasty and piping hot and what I liked that the plates were nice and hot 10 /10. The service was excellent the staff were lovely very friendly and were very helpful if you wanted something special they would sort it out for you. Well worth a visit. I would book a table as they do get busy.

Always a good meal ,and with excellent Covid safety. Staff very friendly and efficient. Tapas night on Sunday and Thursday is great value 👌

The very best restaurant there is - so much so that a five star rating seems a bit low!! Each and every dish is cooked with real passion, fresh, tasty and perfectly balanced. It's our weekly treat to eat at the Ahar - and both eat in and take away are absolute the same quality and consistently delicious every time. Great value too and owner Fiz and his team genuinely care about their customers and giving them a great experience. Covid measures best I've seen anywhere, too. If you live anywhere within reach of the Ahar, don't miss out and make it your go to restaurant 😁

Most fantastic and authentic food, every time. Fiz and the team are so good at recommendations, welcoming service and new additions to the menu. If you like it spicy, the Ghost Roshun Mirch is an absolutely must try.

Excellent food. Staff are very accommodating. Lots of vegan options and staff are happy to cook curries with less oil or no corriander when asked. I had the veggie balti dahl and it was delicious.

Excellent local indian restaurant. The staff are really sound chaps, had a lengthy chat with one of the staff members before leaving. Very accommodating with regards to vegan options.

Fantastic food with a wide variety of dishes, some Bangladeshi that are just fabulous. Great service makes this a gem to enjoy both for sit down or take away! Highly recommended

The staff were lovely and attentive. The food menu was huge and every bit of our food was excellent. After we complimented the manager for the food and said we were glad we tried something different - the exclusive dishes they created - he recommended dishes for next time that he thought we’d like from what we had ordered tonight. We were very impressed to find out they make their own balti paste. The manager clearly knows their whole menu inside out. Can’t wait to come here again for the tapas night!

Been coming for years and never fails to impress

The service was good and the food was ok however couldn't even fit three mains on a table for four and the chips are just from a bag of frozen chips and unfortunately we got the duff table which is to close to the front door and they sit people waiting for takeaway a foot away! they might as well seat them at the table!! keep looking after your regulars and you wont make new ones we won't be back.

Still my favourite Indian cuisine in Whitley Bay, fab food, friendly staff.
