Albina restaurant london in Newham

I had travelled down from Manchester for football and was staying at the Premier Inn in Canning Town. Usually when in London I seek out a pie and mash shop but I was too late for the local one so opted for this restaurant only a few minutes walk from my hotel.Rather like my team ( Manchester City) bringing on Kevin De Bruyne in the game in question--- this was a more than acceptable substitute. The decor is the first thing that struck me -- it appears to be traditional Ukrainian-- indeed I heard a member of staff say that this was their stated aim. First off -- order a beer. A bottle of Ukrainian beer duly arrived together with an earthenware mug for its consumption. An excellent start- if that is typically Ukrainian then I'm all for it. For food I opted for Ukrainian borscht-- apparently a national dish-and an endangered part of Ukrainian heritage according to UNESCO !!!. It is still very much alive and kicking in this part of the East End. It was delicious and contained far more ingredients than I expected ( I was expecting little more than beetroot) It was a meal in itself -served as a very generous portion in a large earthenware bowl Next course was pork dumplings. I wasn't sure whether these would be large like those I had eaten in the Czech Republic or more akin to Polish pierogi. They turned out to be like the latter but better than any pierogi I had eaten with a very tasty filling. The meal was rounded off by a conversation with the lovely lady who was running the place with a male assistant.I could have stayed much longer chatting but had to leave to get to Tottenham Thank you to all for such a fabulous meal and your superb hospitality. I read afterwards that some of their profits were being donated to support their Ukrainians back home during the war. Even more reason to visit

Great food, amazing atmosphere, excellent service! My friend and I were at this restaurant for the first time and we were very impressed. Alexander, who served us was great, very welcoming, friendly and gave us a few suggestions about the food. All in all, we had a great experience! We will be back! Highly recommended!

What an absolute delight. After a few hours in the sauna me and the pals were starving came across this little treasure. Our waitress, sadly never got her name but she has blonde curly hair, and can I just say what a gorgeous human being, helpful, polite, great chat and the food was superb. Real home cooking food, our bellies were absolutely delighted. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. We will be back for a dance and few litres of vodka when Ukraine finally wins this horrible war. The traditional decor is a promising start. The menu is full of great options. The beers were nice and the food too draw. Price was excellent. Will return.

It was a leap of faith based on reviews to visit and were very surprised and happy with the food. Incredibly tasty, and every dish we would recommend. We had the homemade stew, rabbit in sour cream sauce, and polenta with tasty pork. All three dishes required bread to finish the remnants of the tasty sauces.

I first time experiencing Ukrainian authentic food. Staff were great. Food drink and not forgetting the horilka was lovely. The only Ukrainian restaurant in London. Unique. Do check it out!!!

Absolutely loved this restaurant! The decor is in the Ukrainian style, the atmosphere was great! The food was traditional Ukrainian cuisine, not westernised, which I really enjoyed!!! I went with my brother and he LOVED it too. We will be coming back again and again!

Order the full bottle of Moldovan wine. The photos attached do not do this restaurant justice: Cabbage dumplings and Chicken Kyiv are a must.

I recently visited here while on a trip to London with family. The restaurant is lovely. The decor is beautiful. It is cosy and homely. The food is exceptional, and the portion sizes are perfect. I had a large bowl of borsch with dark bread. The borsch was absolutely delicious, it really hit the spot. I also had meat stuffed cabbage rolls with sour cream. The rest of my family had bread rolls, Chicken Kyiv, and Chicken Skewer. They thoroughly enjoyed their meals. For drinks, I had kvass, and my family had lemonade and coke . The service was great, our server was incredibly polite and helpful. The atmosphere in the restaurant was a highlight. I will definitely be visiting again when I come to London. This was a wonderful restaurant experience!

The attentive service was only one of the many highlights of this delightful gem in Canning Town. Proud of their Ukrainian heritage the food served was copious and delicious. The Beef Stroganoff was a highlight as well as the chicken skewers, but we also loved the pelmeni, the cabbage rolls and the meat pancakes. Well worth a visit, especially in our times. ❤🇺🇦

This authentic restaurant is nestled in the heart of Canning Town. Full of Ukrainian memorabilia and delicious Ukrainian food cooked by a Ukrainian chef who is first rate. The waitresses are outstanding and talk to you about the love of their country and can advise on any thing Ukrainian related. This is a must to visit to demonstrate in some small way support for Ukraine and Ukrainians. Coming here is our way to show solidarity with the brave and courageous people of Ukraine.

We had a fantastic evening at Albina, eating a wonderful variety of traditional, home cooked Ukrainian food. The place is really cosy and has beautiful traditional decor, and most importantly, Albina and the staff running the place are so warm and friendly - we felt so welcomed, and I was reminded how much I love finding independent business which go out of their way to really accommodate and befriend guests. Strongly recommended, and we will be back for more uzvar, dumplings, borscht and pampushka!

Worst service which I have, warm beer, food is not bad (but expensive). Please avoid to visit this restaurant.

Four of us visited Albina a couple of months ago. The food is authentic but the quality varied a little, e.g. golubtsy wasn't top notch. The waitresses was very welcoming and gave good suggestions on what to try. Overall: very good.

Went with family and friends. Ordered by recommendation of the waiter who was lovely and the food was tasty. Really impressed with quality of service and food. Restaurant is very authentic, clean with great food. Will go back for sure.

Visitamos este restaurante en miércoles por la noche. Super agradable ambiente agradable que pollo camarera orden y la comida era muy sabrosa kotlet realmente disfrutar de él, quizás esperar un poco demasiado largo, ya que era sólo clientes en ese momento, pero todo lo demás estaba bien. Maria nuestro servidor fue muy amable y nos dio buenos consejos para nuestra comida, ¡muy bien hecho!

Ninguno de nosotros ha probado comida ucraniana antes, pero fue genial. Crema agria en todo! Menú es no muy bien traducida y el personal no son las mejores, pero si the linguist están dispuestos a riesgo simplemente de relleno por sus recomendaciones será recompensado. El amable personal.

I have been to Ukraine several times and like the food so 4 of us went to try. An interesting experience...some of the food ie the Ukrainian Borsht..was topnotch...but their Solyanka soup (a classic Ukrainian item) bore no resemblance to the real thing. The friendly young waiter when asked for a "Bloody Mary" from the drinks menu had no clue....but they did have Kvass..which is a mildly alcoholic drink made from fermented stale black bread!! There is a quite extensive menu and prices are reasonable.Portions are big and well-worth trying....just avoid the Solyanka....everything else was pretty good. Would go again if it was closer to Central London!

We visited with friends having been to Ukraine this year and missing the cuisine. It was everything we'd hoped it would be! Delicious food and lovely staff. Looking forward to going back.

Albina was a funny little restaurant in Canning Town which was almost completely deserted when we went despite the fact that the service and food were both amazing. The menu was slightly difficult to figure out at first but every dish we ordered was amazing. The borsht and the pancakes for starters and the pork steak and prunes and the homemade stew were fantastic. The portions are huge and we were uncomfortably full by the end. Somethings dishes were slightly costly but others were very cheap and considering the portion sizes it was good value. The beer is served in amazing, kitschy mugs and they offer Ukrainian and Lithuanian beer as well as Georgian and Moldovan wine and lots of liqueurs.The staff are lovely and were very attentive.Would highly recommend going especially in a group and we will be back!

Really enjoyed my visit, myself and my friend wanted to try Ukrainian cuisine, very friendly service from Dennis who recommended traditional beetroot soup which was delicious. Look forward to trying more on my next visit when in the area again.

Very great atmosphere in restaurant, for really great hospitality to Denis. Food was also good, we have a shashlik, it take little bit time to make it, but is worth it. We have a good time and we will come back!

Very friendly, polite and helpful staff with excellent knowledge of English, so my husband could feel free to book food and chat a bit. We were confuse about drink choice, so guy politely offered us vine and Kvas for husband :) Very lovely atmosphere, reminds Ukraine, Kiev. Really delicious food. Definitely will be back.

We had a really enjoyable evening at the Albina. I've not been to the Ukraine, but the food definitely had it's own style and all courses we had were very tasty. We recommend the homemade potatoes to accompany the main course. We had wines from Georgia and Moldova, so again a bit different from the usual selections. The waitress was Ukrainian and very friendly. She made us feel very welcome and the food arrived promptly. It wasn't a cheap night out, but the portion sizes were good.

This place really took me by surprise because i didn't know what to expect. This was a restaurant visited often by my girlfriend as she lives fairly local to it and she wanted to take me on a date there. The service was great, the staff there were very friendly and polite, the setting and environment was of Ukrainian style which matched well with the food. Now the food was delicious, i would recommend getting a soup dish called "solyanka" as i get it every time i go, i've now become a regular at the place :D All in all the feeling of dinning at this place was marvellous and i would highly recommend it to anyone trying to expand their taste buds!! Also, its Ukrainian, don't leave without getting a drink containing vodka!

I would like to recommend this restaurant to everyone as me, my family and friends had an amazing time there. Stepping inside the restaurant, I was immedietely immersed into the Ukrainian culture with traditional decorations and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was very tasty and all of our dishes were cooked to perfection! The presentation of the food was lovely and the waiter and barman were very helpful and kind. Our celebration was even more special thanks to the beautiful live music. We danced and it was an awesome experience. Pricing-wise, I thought it was very realistic and I felt that we got quality food for the price we paid. Would definitely go again!

I've been on a Birthday party of friend of my, did not know what expect, to be honest never been on Ukrainian place before. Georgian red semi-sweat wine was marvelous. To be honest, I did not expect evening would be so good. I' ve planed to jump in just for a few hours and went out half past one a.m. Been twice with the family, after my first visit, I should let you know you need a booking for Saturday, in other case you would not be able to get in. It's a shame this place is so far from West London.

The food is very rustic witch is not a bad thing in its self, but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired. The price on the menu is not the price you pay, I chose the rabbit which was £12.50 expensive but it was a treat and i like rabbit. But then I find out at the end of the meal I am paying for everything else on the plate, potatoes £2.50 pluss a very mediocre salad £5.00. So a small rabbit leg in cream with potatos and salad £20.00.a meal for 4 people came to £139.00 Over priced over salted and walked out still filling hungry.

It was my first time that I was going to try Ukrainian food. My boyfriend who is Russian who has been to this restaurant many a time said I should try it as it was delicious - he was right!!!!!! As soon as I walked in I felt really at home. The decoration and atmosphere were so welcoming. We were met by Denys, a waiter there. My boyfriend explained I was a bit apprehensive about trying a different style of food. Denys was so helpful throughout the experience and explained the whole menu to me. Denys is Ukrainian himself but his English was very good!!!! Top waiter! The food came before I knew it. For starter I had Borscht which is a Ukrainian soup. It was so tasty and flavoursome (I even ordered 4 portions to take home for lunches during the week). For main course I had a couple of dishes; mushroom julienne and fried potato with sour cream! Both were fantastic and all the ingredients tasted so fresh. I am a vegetarian but they had plenty of meat and fish dishes to also try. The chefs clearly know how to make good food!!! So for anyone who wants to escape the boring high street chains and experience natural and healthy food which still tastes just as good I highly recommend this restaurant.I will be back very soon :) Thank you

The experience was really nice with a welcoming waiter ready to give recommendations about choosing the right dish for you if you haven't explored the Ukrainian cuisine yet, cosy folk decor and good food itself. We went especially for that to this area and weren't disappointed.

It`s ideal for a quiet evening , the food is good , a little pricey though, but filling , borscht is delicious. I didn`t like the bottled water though it tasted like plastic. all in all the food is good and I would go again

Very traditional feeling Ukranian restaurant! When I went on a weekday it was not busy and the server was very kind and helpful. The food was good and it was a fun experience.

Good place to get authentic Ukrainian food. Interior is in traditional style. Been there several times with friends and always enjoyed our time there. On the weekends restaurant is always packed which shows that this place is pretty popular. What else’s is nice - good live music.Highly recommending!
