Overpriced and dreadful scones. Not much selection of savoury dishes so opted for a fruit scone. It was very dry and crumbly. Couldn’t really eat it as just broke up in to crumbs. Soup was very expensive.

Came for some lunch when we were visiting Lyme Park for the afternoon. There was plenty to choose from - soup, sandwiches, cakes etc. All tasted nice but it was expensive especially for a family of 5!

Dispensed from a machine it was so weak it was tasteless and you have to pay for extra shots apparently. We also wanted a cauliflower pastie but they can’t heat them for you. So overall not a good experience sadly

The cappuccino was very weak, the total cost of this and some food (flapjack and Victoria sandwich cake) was £8.70, and the floor was dirty.

We stopped for tea in the morning and returned for lunch. The menu was interesting and good value for money. Soup of the day was served with a choice of bread or cheese scone, which was quite tasty. The venison ragout was thick and rich. The portions were just right for a lunch time treat. Thanks for great service with a smile and good wholesome food.

A very interesting setting and lots of home made hot food. Reasonable prices. It was very busy over lunch time, you may have to wait.

We came across the cafe while doing the ‘behind the scenes tour’ because it goes past the cafe. The servants hall cafe was busy so we tried Ales which was quiet. The cafe is through a door after the toilets in the main house. Unless you knew it was there you probably wouldn’t go past the toilets. You need to wait to be seated, which we were promptly. We chose hot drinks with cakes. All enjoyed. Service and attentive and friendly

Nice refreshments in the Ale cellar. Had a flat white & others had scones, jam with cream. Everything tasted Ok with standard fare cream etc and jam, but my flat white could have been a touch hotter

We visited here at the end of our day and as it happens very near to it closing at 3.30pm. We waited to be seated as per the board but as it wasn't busy and the lad wiping down tables next to us refused to catch our eye we seated ourselves and then he bought menus saying he hadn't seen us. Not sure whether it was table service or order at the till, my husband went to order at the till. We had Victoria sponge and Lemon verbena scone plus tea which he paid for at the time of ordering. Both were very acceptable. Whilst we were eating the café closed but that didn't stop the stream of people still trying to get in. They seemed unable to advertise the fact they were closed and as it's a walk from the courtyard, this was some journey for those with pushchairs and an old lady with a stick. On departure we were challenged at the door by the girl from the till asking us if we'd paid - she had served my husband. Not very impressive.

We ate here while we were visiting the NT estate. We found it by mistake and are glad that we did. The food was more of a lite bite, bowl of soup or venison casserole rather than a banquet. The staff were plentiful and friendly and the service was prompt. Our food arrived after a short wait given that there was barely an empty seat in the place. It is not the cheapest, the casserole was £8.95 and the soup was £5.95 but it tasted very good so in my opinion was worth while.

We went through Lyme Park as part of a circular walk on a very wintry February day. Cold, and with muddy boots we called in at the Ale cellar for a hot drink and a scone with jam and cream. The service was efficient and the staff friendly and welcoming. Drinks and food were good, and the price seemed about average for what we had.We will definitely go back hopefully in the summer to check out the house and gardens.

The food was goo and reasonably priced. The staff was friendly and quick with our order. The cafe itself was nice with ample seating.

Before we explored the gardens and house my daughter and I had lunch with was good value for money £20 for both which was pit if tea each , sandwich & salad and a pudding too. Local produce from the tenant farmers like the Bramley Apple's in my apple and rhubarb and custard , good size portions too my daughter had a cream tea we needed a walk around the gardens once finished. Cheshire cheese and homemade chutney sandwiches were just lovely too .

Not a patch on what it used to be before the revamp. Menu is boring, interior is cool, staff untrained and can;t cope with busy place. We come regularly don't really know why, because the best is the park!!

Friendly staff serving good wholesome food at very sensible prices. They wouldn't accept a tip, they are volunteers, but asked me to buy raffle tickets instead, which I did.

Fuimos a la bodega Ale café después de un viaje alrededor de la casa y los jardines en Lyme Park. Propiedades NT siempre ofrecen buena comida y este fue el mismo caso aquí en Lyme Park.

With all the ambience of a canteen on a cross channel ferry, with so much noise, this is not a pleasant experience. I put shoes on for dinner, but that made me overdressed. Should have put some old trainers on. I live and learn. Add in that the food is really quite pricey for what it is, and it would definitely not be the place I would ever choose to eat. But I am staying in the hotel, and have an early start tomorrow. The hotel is very nice, and I will review separately, but it deserves a PROPER restaurant given the heritage of the place. Main course only for me, as work wont expense a £12 starter on top of a £6.50 pint without moaning, and I am out of this ludicrously loud and echoing ‘school dinner hall’ feeling place as soon as possible! Wish I had room service and not bothered.

Charles is amazing, such a gent. Gave great advice to us as we had no clue where to start with our planters. Also, helped take our purchases to the car. I can’t give enough praise for this place.

Been here many times and always for breakfast and it’s always been fine with pleasant staff and plenty of room to sit. You can’t moan at the quality plus the coffee is really good for a machine.

Just a local pub for local people. Nice selection of beers, nice chips and freshly made pizzas. Couple of fruit machines and a pool table and quite a relaxed quiet atmosphere much of the time and good place to take the kids.

Need to leave some feedback here for something that happened the other day that was just bizarre. They weren’t serving the “big breakfast” which includes 2 bacon, 2 sausages, 2 eggs etc (compared to the smaller breakfast which comes with one of each). The reason they weren’t serving was because they had run out of hashbrowns (you’d normally get 3). They were however serving the smaller breakfast and offering replacements for the missing hash brown. When we asked if we could just order the big breakfast with no hashbrowns or no replacement we were told no. When we tried to add the items to the smaller breakfast to make it the same as the larger breakfast (extra sausage, bacon etc) we were told it would be £11 or even more. Honestly one of the weirdest experiences I’ve had in a cafe. It felt like they were being stubborn for no reason and blaming it on being busy. We were willing to pay the same amount for the larger breakfast and get no hashbrowns (making it worse value for us)… but they would only do this breakfast for us if we paid MORE!?!? What?!? Zero sense. Made even weirder by the fact they were offering replacement mushrooms or beans on the smaller breakfast. Why not just offer those for the missing 3 hashbrowns on the larger breakfast and crack on. We should’ve just walked off but we reluctantly ordered a small breakfast, sat down, only to be approached by a member of staff who said “in all of the back and fourth we forgot to tell you that there is. 20 minute wait on food”. Even if it wasn’t meant this way - we were made to feel like we had been argumentative for simply asking if we could pay full price and receive less food. Absolutely insane decision making. Customer service was none existent and if anything we felt for the staff member fronting these insane rules. Sort it out sainos!
