Alexander's Fish and Chips in Christchurch

So very disappointed. I read the reviews and decided against the Highcliffe Fish n Chips shop where I live. People have also mentioned how good your food is. The chips were awful, all thin and crispy hardly any proper chips. Hardly any cod in the over cooked batter. Fish n chips is usually a treat once in a while but I don't think I will be having again for a long time.

First time here - Great fish and chips cooked while we waited - juicy haddock with nice and crispy batter - friendly staff - reasonable price - will be back again

Excellent fish and chips. We arrived at peak time (6pm) - the fish and chips were fresh and crispy. Delicious dinner!

We always pop in when visiting the area. We have never had a bad experience. Visited yesterday, served to order everyone was friendly and polite. Cod and chips were very good.

We used this take away a couple of times whilst in the area - great chips and fish cooked to order so lovely and hot and super fresh. A very handy alternative to cooking!

Excellent fish and chips which for some reason is very difficult to find in the area.

This was recommended by a local after our day on the beach. It was a Friday evening so the wait was about 10 minutes but worth it. We took our Fish and Chips to the waters edge which was perfect setting. Fish and batter nice a crisp and the chips were great and plentiful. Probably could have done with more salt and vinegar

Honestly, the most tasteless soggy fish and chips for a very long time. Highly recommended to us by locals at the pier, drove there from the beach. What a waste of time, should have stayed in the queue at the Nioisy Lobster, as it waste of time driving there, waste of time waiting in a very long queue, waste of money and calories. Just very poor quality and not cooked well, soggy chips, tasteless Cod ??? I’m not sure it was, just soggy greasy hot food, in a bag just soaking in grease. Never again 😩😩 Unfortunately it was too far to drive back to the outlet from the beach, so most of them went in a bin. No photos , as no Point 😫🤢

I'm a seasonal visitor, several times a year, Have never been disappointed with food, service is a quick as they can,and their popularity speaks for itself just view the queue on a Fri night 🤣

Have been going to this fish shop every time I’m in Mudeford. This time no queuing which Was all ways the case and the girl could not understand me got my order wrong and the food was greasy no wonder the trade has gone !!

Once upon a time this was the best chippy around. Sadly this is not the case now. Just had the worst meal ever, most of it ended up in the bin...yuk. Definitely won't give them another chance.

The food was amazing, recommended to some here and then sit down on the quay to eat…… absolutely superb

I was very disappointed with both the service & the food last night, the 15th August. The staff were disinterested & just talked amongst themselves, resulting in my order being wrong. I did not notice until I had driven away & parked up to eat it & not in a position to return. I had ordered 2 cod, large chips & a small sausage & had asked that the chips be split between 2 bags. This wasn't done, despite it always being done in the past, & the sausage in one of the bags was actually a jumbo saveloy. This went straight in the bin. The cod & chips were inedible & had a very unpleasant taste. Maybe the oil needed to be changed!!! These also went straight in the bin. What a waste of £20!!!!! I have always recommended this fish & chip shop, but won't do again. I will also never eat from there again, incase the same occurs. This may be a one off, but I will not take the risk.

got our order wrong by completely missing an entire fish, we go back to get it and instead of an apology for forgetting a meal, we are indirectly accused of trying to steal an extra fish, one of the workers said theyd check the cameras. outrageous behaviour. a shame as the food was very nice.

Great food but unfortunately poor customer service. Short on our order when asking for it was accused of lying! Then they realised their mistake and gave us the rest of our order with no apology. Absolutely shocking.

Called the night before to check they did gluten free batter, was advised they did so drove there after work to be advised they don’t! The lady serving me on the till glazed over and didn’t answer when asked twice for gluten free batter on my fish, 3 staff stood behind chatting had to be asked to intervene with the lady serving who with no disrespect meant didn’t speak fluent English and just didn’t answer when not understanding, you would think the other staff would help when she was struggling but they were too busy chatting to notice. Heard good things about this place just a bit disappointed with being given the wrong information on the phone and going there to just be looked at blankly! No apology from the staff when we said we had been advised incorrectly on the phone they just carried on chatting amoungst themselves

Food Good but over charge just bought med chips large chips 2 curry sauce and 1 saveloy on there website menu should be £12.60 we were charged £15.50 total rip off avoid if you don't want ripped off my apprentice picked up so was embarrassed to question.

There was a long wait. The person taking the orders was miserable and the food was expensive, the portions were very small (apart from the sausage) and it was not a good experience. Really disappointed.

Spent over £50 tonight and came out with a small plastic bag. I was surprised at the time I asked for three large chips and they came in a small bag and a 2 medium bags if I am being really generous. Only enough for 4 people. I didn’t know potatoes were so expensive!! The fish and sausages were put on top of the chips. Not good for the vegetarian and the non fish eater. The scampi was over £6 and had 6 small mass produced pieces Not good for a sea side town. We will be going out to get more food for the hungry people. A HUGE disappointment. Massively overpriced for the size. I could have eaten out for not much more than this. Please do not go here if you are hungry. Only plus was the food came quickly otherwise it would be a zero review.

As there was a queue of approximately 40mins wait at the coast, we spoke to some locals who recommended Alexander’s, assuring us it was actually better quality than the popular establishment we were queuing for. 3min drive and usually no longer than 10min wait. We were starving after a 10 mile hike, so opted for the locals recommendation. It was a 3 min drive, a queue system that was very efficient, 12 mins later, we had two fresh cooked, red hot portions of fish and chips, drove back to the seafront at Mudeford. That’s the best bit… we had two portions of overcooked fish and two massive portions of tasteless greasy chips. NOT GOOD AT ALL, just food, nothing good about them, a total waste of money and calories, the majority of them went into a bin. Thankfully we live 400miles away, so we won’t be returning to the area any time soon, and if we do we will give this establishment a wide berth.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the recent negative reviews. We visited for the first time despite these. Service was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. But sadly the pea fritter was tasteless and dry, the bottom of it was blackened so not sure how long it had been sat under the heat lamps. Quite disappointing for £3. Fish a similar story, didn’t seem fresh and tasted quite fibrous. The chips were good though. But not sure they were good enough to convince us to com back again.

Good size portions, a bit pricey though but nice and fresh with real potatoes (if you know what I mean) very nice.

This used to be the best fish & chip shop around. Tonight we had the worst, the large chips were burnt, and tasted gritty like there was sand on them. The pea fritter was bland and the large batter sausage was burnt in a spot. Is it new owners? Half the chips went in the bin.

Certainly no friendly service at this place. Dirty looks when I asked to see the card reader to make sure they weren't overcharging. Fish undercooked, batter still wet under the crust.

We use Alexander's at least once a week and find them ok. Today Sat. 6th July at lunch time the chips were recooked greasy and tasted awful. Couldn't bring back because it was closed by then. Shocked because not cooked fresh. How do we know it won't happen again. Is it a lunchtime thing.

Went for a ride out yesterday evening and stop to get a fish n chip super plus two jumbo plain. Oh my god we've been coming here for several years and I have to say what a disappointment,!! The large fish was small with so much batter it was awful and so greasey the chips were bits and recooked so hard to even chew. And the sausage were ok, But I asked for a box for the food . Really wasn't expecting all the food to be put into one box , what absolute mess, and 75% went in the bin at muddaford quay. Such a disappointment little food at a low standard. But at a high price

Very good fish and chips. The fish is tasty with a crispy batter, not fatty or soft. Chips nicely cooked. The day I went it was popular and there was a wait outside, but is worth it. We were staying nearby and went twice in a week.

As locals we always get our fish and chips from these guys!!! Never a bad meal!!!!

Used this fish and chip shop for years.. tonight I paid over £7.00 for a piece of cod that was very small and that the batter just fell off, wasn’t flaky and lacked taste, the chips were mainly the bottom of the fryer and the curry sauce was so thin it dripped off the chips so couldn’t be used.. didn’t take back as we’d already found a parking space so the bins down the quay were fed instead of us.. will never visit again, high prices for low quality food, very disappointing.

A young team that is only interested in itself, not the client. I'm talking about this because when I worked nearby in 2015 and I visited this place often, the service was great and the food was delicious, which cannot be said about the outrageously bad fries that were not freshly fried, but served from a warm container soaked in old burnt oil. I ordered two large portions of fish and chips and received leftovers of stale fries and average fish. The place is dirty, take a look at the front casing made of stainless steel, it's not sterile there, but you serve food, right? I don't recommend it!!!!

Is this old chippy under new ownership? They were once very good but the food we bought yesterday was awful. Chips were stale tasting and mainly scraps. More than average amount of black eyes. Sausage in batter not nice, hard batter and banger. Sorry folks, we are local and have bought from this shop dozens of times but something has changed??????

Struggling to find a fish and chip shop open on a Tuesday lunchtime in February. Ordered in advance. Picked up, wonderful service from the lady on the phone and the smiling, cheerful, engaging guy behind the counter. 10/10 for the Cod, Chips and Mushy Peas, as fresh and as hot as you'd expect in the middle of a Friday night service, and this was a wet Tuesday lunchtime.... Fantastic.

First last time we used it about a year ago I gave a 5star review. What a difference a year makes. This time it tasted and had the consistency of being reheated, so disappointed as I had driven a few miles to pick up.

Fresh cod hig chunks of fresh fish. Batter was light. Curry sauce was tangy . Chips could have been a little crisper they stuck together in the bag. A little pricey at £14.90 for large fish & chips & curry sauce. A 8/10

What happened? It was not a great experience today. Unfortunately, chips were not the best ... I'm so disappointed.. drove here, especially for the fluffy chips I remember. Now skinny terrible chips... It's such a shame.. Fish wasn't that great, either tiny and greasy. Expensive lunch .. battered sausage was good and tasty, though, so we shared that! 😔

Delicious! Worth the wait at peak times - do not be put off by this. We always look forward to getting our fish and chips and then eating them by the sea at Mudeford.

Went to order at around 6.00pm on a Wednesday evening and had to wait around twenty minutes or so, but it was worth it. The quality of the food was excellent and the portions more than adequate.

Read the 1 star reviews. Yes, chips are reheated/refried. Bag of bits rather than any proper chips. Orientalist woman quite rude and miserable. Young boy taking orders is robotic/AI and is lacking. Quite terrible food. Happy not to have purchased anything else. There are good Fish & Chip shops around. But certainly NOT this one. Don’t be fooled by false reviews.

Being local and have driven past a few times my wife and I decided to drive there and take fish and chips to the beach at Mudeford after waiting twenty mins for it, it was very disappointing large haddock was brown the cod was small and it tasted like frozen fish the chips tasted like they were re heated all this amazing disappointment cost £24 some of the staff are Chinese and they cannot cook fish and chips in my eyes as I’ve been served by them before in other establishments and the same results occurred, I wish this place all the best but I will not be going back or recommend it .

We holiday in mudeford every year for the last 18yrs, always go to Alexander’s for fish and chips, however this visit to this chip shop was the last, we spent £56 and majority of the food went in the bin, we had fish and chips, large fish, which was mostly batter and what fish there was it was on the turn the smell of ammonia was strong, it definitely was not fresh and the chips where scabby and bitty not nice at all, please don’t waste your money there is much better in the area , what a shame as it use to be a nice chippy

Re-fried chips from lunch menu; at 5.10pm shortly after opening. Most of the ‘chips’, were actually fragments and crispy ends. If this is what people give reviews about or it’s the only chip shop within miles?!? Not hygienic coupled with robotic young serving boy and miserable oriental woman.

Not as good as previous visits, the fish was Ok but the chips looked and tasted like they were yesterday's cooked again!

Great food! We got takeaway from here and ate out at Mudeford Quay. They serve you in 10-15 minutes at peak hours so relatively fast. There are several chairs inside where you can wait for your food. Prices are pretty average I added a photo of the updated menu. Delicious Cod perfectly prepared the fish was nice and flaky soft on the inside. Outside was crunchy and amazing. It was a good size filet. The chips were good however the bag they came in made them soggy after aprox 10 minutes so the last half of the chips were abit harder to eat. Id recommend to bring your own salt and ketchup for eating this so you can easily add what you need. The portion was great, most of us got large portions and they were truly large! The food was so good I forgot to take a photo of it. To summarize a great fish and chips experience that I'd recommend to others.

I visited this chip shop again as it has a great friendly service. The food is out of this world. Fabulous fish, chips, spam fritters and savloys. The food was freshly cooked and decent size portions of chips. I am definitely visiting again and absolutely recommend a visit to try this great value for money food.

Amazing chip shop big queues but everything is so well run it takes no time to get your order. There are seats outside the shop where you sit waiting for your number to be called well worth the wait food was excellent don't let the queue put you off

I am not exaggerating when I say this is the best fish and chip shop in the world. They are understandably busy at peak times but means the food is always cooked fresh. Alexander’s stands head and shoulders above the rest

Staff are absolutely lovely. Food was so delicious we drove out of our way just to eat from there. Prices are fair. Get there early there will be a queue but we’ll worth the wait. If your in the area this is a definite if you want fish and chips

Best fish and chips i’ve had!! It was so quick and so good for value. I got 2 meals and a drink for just £11. I couldn’t recommend a better place!!!

Still worth the queue - sadly we save this treat for our last night but how lovely it is especially eating by the sea. Food cooked to order so yes we had to wait but the staff are organised and work through the orders pretty quickly. We had cod, scampi and battered sausages in our order all with chips and there was nothing left so that speaks volumes, we will be back in the summer but maybe have on our first night rather than our last.

A busy fish and chip shop, serving well cooked food. The fish was perfectly served with a crispy, tasty batter, chicken nuggets and sausages were also tasty and well done. Only problem is parking due to its popularity there's limited on street parking.

Difficult to park nearby,long queue most times which mean it's popular,we had rock and chips each and the portions were great realy good chips too,unfortunately the fish made both me and my wife ill terrible night .... don't know what went wrong we were reccomended this place by several people
