Went for a meal last night after booking a table a few days earlier for 5pm. Got there to be told a few of the menu items weren’t available - would have been nice to get a phone call to tell us this beforehand. After ordering our server then came back and said they’d ran out of even more food so half of us couldn’t have what we actually wanted. Food then took 50 minutes to come out and glasses built up on the table even though there were about 5 members of staff behind the bar. When the food eventually did come out the steaks were dry and tough, fish and chips were soggy and the turkey burger was a wet mess. We were all that hungry we decided to eat as fast as possible to escape. Since leaving we then found out they have a ONE star food hygiene rating 🤢 the kitchen should be shut down! Can 100% say we won’t be returning ever again.

Nice pub, not great service…waited at the bar for 15 minutes watching one man struggle alone whilst others folded napkins. So we left thirsty.

Rubbish pub, not very many places to sit, food was crap, loads of tables reserved but nobody even on them for ages. Also hate pubs that have those stupid parking things. Would not recommend plenty of better options in the area.

Having only ever eaten here on one other occasion, where the service was not brilliant but the food was good, we decided to try this pub again with our friends around 2 years later. We booked for Sunday lunch via email, and upon arrival the problems started when they could not find our booking. We waited nearly 15 minutes at the bar before being found a table, so not the best start. After a lengthy wait, a waitress came to take a drinks order. My partner asked what the lagers were, and the waitress stared at us blankly and simply said she didn't know. Everything felt as though nobody knew what they were doing and we found the staff didn't understand what we were asking on multiple ocassions. After a moment, and a new waitress returned to us. After taking our drinks order, another staff member came to ask us if we were ready to order food. We said we were and she walked off, where we assumed she was going to get a notepad but she never returned and over 15 minutes later I eventually had to go up the bar to order as nobody returned to us. For the prices they charge you don't expect to have to keep getting up and the poor level of service. We ordered 5 roast dinners, which we waited for for nearly an hour. We were not told there was any wait on food at the time of ordering. When the food arrived, the portions were tiny. Myself and my partner felt mortified, as our friends had travelled to this pub to meet us when we saw the way the plates come out. I ordered the chicken and had 2 green beans on my plate. The portions were honestly tiny especially for the price. There was hardly any gravy on the plates and neither was there any stuffing as advertised. Nobody came to see if our food was okay and eventually when they did we were nearly finished. Two people in our party had beef which was cold and also a bit undercooked. When somebody finally came to ask if the food was okay when we had already finished, we explained there was no stuffing. The response was that he wished we had said sooner! We explained nobody had been to check the table during the meal and the bar was inaccessible. He asked us if we wanted stuffing now...after we had finished eating. He then reappeared with 3 small balls of stuffing... for a table of 5. By this point it had turned into quite a comical situation. When the plates were cleared the waiter scraped the plates onto one plate right in front of one of us and over my friends shoulders. The whole experience was just not up to standard. Upon paying, we complained and were given one meal free. The explanation was that staff were new and had much training, but for the prices being charged you expect a decent level of service. The atmosphere in the pub was not very good, the fire was unlit and no Christmas tree from what we could see. The attitude of the staff was rather 'giggly' and nobody seemed happy to be there. It seemed as if nobody knew what they were doing and everything was done at a snails pace. The whole experience was awful and disappointing. I would not recommend this place to anybody.

Five of us came today, the whole experience was very underwhelming, seemed a whole lack of communication between the staff and us, it’s like they found 8 strangers off the street and asked them to run a pub! waited ages for food, when it arrived it was fairly cold, and a really small portion for the money, so much so that we ended up going elsewhere for desserts, the stuffing balls were also missing off all five dinners, we asked and the waiter brought over 3 when we’d had our meal, yet there was 5 of us eating which felt like an insult!! Such a lack of professionalism, started cleaning the plates infront of us as well when im sure they have a kitchen located somewhere! Won’t waste my time in giving it a second go unfortunately

Spectacular food and excellent service at this beautiful old pub. We were so impressed with the quality of the food, one of the best-prepared steaks I have ever had. The menu changes seasonally, retaining certain favourites while giving the chefs the opportunity to add new dishes focusing on high quality locally sourced produce. Despite the fact that it had clearly been an extremely busy day, the food was prepared with care, and was aesthetically impressive. The staff were kind, helpful and fun, and despite clearly working very hard, had time to build a rapport with us, and worked well as a team. Overall very impressive, and the surroundings are amazing, such a gorgeous old building with many original features of its organic growth retained throughout. Definitely worth a visit. Be sure to book. We were upset to see that some people had booked and then not turned up - so disrespectful of a small, local business, and a hard working team

72yr old Disabled customer fined £125 and threatened with court action over parking in the pubs carpark. Walked from car to the garden gate entrance, spent quality time with lomg lost old friends. Enjoyed nice meal on a sunny Saturday lunchtime. Spent £50 in 2 hours. Found out 1 week later the company controlling the pubs carpark issued a large fine for incorrectly entering registration details. Went back to the pub several times to try to resolve, promised the manager would be in touch by phone. Nothing back. Emailed 3 times to Anne of Cleves and Everards brewery, totally ignored. No response. Tried to appeal the fine through the correct process, rejected. Anxiety and stress level at boiling point. Its not the folk who work in the pubs fault, this is the fault of absolutely ZERO customer care from the pubs management and the owners Everards brewery to think it is O.K. to completely ignore a paying customer's cry out for help. To not even bother to reply in any way, not even by email or phone. Good luck to you in future business, because you are going to need it. Disgusting customer service.

Let me start by saying that I really do want this pub and it's team to be successful. This is the flagship of the Everard's Brewery and deservedly so. A beautiful building with a great history and the best Pub garden in Melton. The beer and food is good, if on the expensive side for the area. The main problem that lets the pub down is the organisation and lack of a real leader. They often run out of menu ingredients and staff are oblivious to what is required or lack urgency, leaving tables or the bar to often be overflowing with plates and glasses. It honestly would not take much to elevate the pub to the levels it deserves

We were visiting Melton Mowbray for the day and decided to have a meal and spend our money locally. From outside the building looks every bit the part of an historical town. Luckily they are dog friendly. Our order comprised of French onion soup starter, fish and chips and gammon with 2 fried eggs handcut chips. The soup arrived and I can only describe it as onion gravy with a bit of cheese sprinkled on top. When our mains arrived my partner's gammon meal looked OK. When it came to my fish and chips the meal went dramatically down hill. When I went to open the fish, oil oozed out of the batter. Pressing the fish all the way along, oil continued to flood out. The batter wasn't crisp, it was spongy. I mentioned it to a member of staff who then spoke to someone senior. She asked if there was anything else I would like to order. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu. I then proceeded to sit and watch my partner eat his meal. By the time my replacement meal arrived, my partner had finished his, so ineffect we ate separately. My meal was just about edible really, nothing to write home about except the prices charged. I was told that the chef said "the fish only came in this morning (frozen) and probably hadn't defrosted thoroughly, so there was probably moisture in it and will be better the next day" Really??? Although the staff were apologetic and handled it rather well, we don't feel it right to recommend this restaurant after our experience.

So I was looking for a nice Sunday roast as I'm new to the Melton area...I ordered the set roast beef dinner £18 and a pint of Sam Miguel totalling £21 so I was expecting something filling and nice for the money. I took my drink and sat down and it came to the table within seconds, which is never a sign of fresh food. It was presented like a gourmet meal but it was not good! It came with 1 Yorkshire pudding 2 strips of beef, a spoonful of veg and 2 roast potatoes which I could of snapped in half and barely cut with a knife they were so hard. All of which was barely warm. As a first time visit, I was very disappointed to say the least... I would not recommend it for the food although the staff were nice and the beer garden is a nice environment.

The food was absolutely delicious - pigeon starter, pork cassoulet and I had the hake, possibly one of the best fish dishes I've ever had! Obviously the charm and quaintness of such an old pub go without saying, but the staff were great too and super helpful. Thank you for a lovely evening we will be back.

Beautiful old pub , very friendly staff food was ok and not overly priced. The mussels were lovely, and portions were a good size. All in all a pretty decent place to eat.

Originally went out to somewhere but it was shut so looked for a dog friendly pub on Google...it suggested here, and what a great suggestion. The food was excellent: cooked and not bingged in the mw. The beers were great tasting and served with a smile and patience; we were all made to feel so welcome but not as welcome as the most important member of the group, my boy Beano who loved his slice of posh ham (there was no sausage available) . We are a bit of a critical audience because I was a pub landlord for 30 years and my daughter is a chef in a pub a few miles away; we all agreed that despite it being our first visit we are definitely going to return again. Thanks for a great lunch.

Not eaten here since owners took over, but they've definitely improved this village pub!! It now serves great real ales, wines, spirits and lagers by friendly staff, in a lovely 'Traditional English Country Pub' setting. It also offers a limited range of 0% beers etc. The owners have skillfully developed very pleasant surroundings and ambiance, without destroying a pub fit for local people as well as visitors to the village. I've been told that the food is also well-received, especially at weekends.

Excellent customer service, looked after us very well! Only problem was the 4 pieces of small scampi for £2, feel like there should have been a few more pieces for the money. Other than that a great meal!
