Aroma Chinese Takeaway in Ipswich

New Year’s Eve and day ruined thanks to reheated, dry, tasteless food, all 6 of us were up all night in the bathroom and so far most of today. Avoid if your stomach can’t handle poor reheated food.

Well what a shame. I have used Aroma regularly for the past 6 years since I moved to Ipswich The food has always been good and very reasonably priced. However, in recent months the standard of the rice has definitely got worse. I often go just after it opens and the rice simply tastes old and reheated. Its gone from white and fluffy to dark and unpleasant.

Have used this takeaway for over 5 years and the food is getting worse. We even continued to use it even after moving to the other side of Ipswich. In the beginning, The chicken was cooked perfectly, nice and tender with a nice light batter. It was packed in a tin container sitting on a lettuce leaf. The sweet chili sauce used to be the consistency of runny honey and had a pleasant taste with a bit of heat to the after taste. Rice was light and fluffy with a good mixture of veg and chicken. The last few times we have ordered the chicken has been over cooked and the batter has been hard and caused the chicken pieces to stick together. The sweet chili sauce is now very watery and taste has been replaced by heat. The rice was one big lump and is now lacking in veg and chicken. Finally everything arrived in a plastic container (not as environmentally friendly) We will be looking for an alternative takeaway. 😢

I've been hunting and searching for a chinese takeaway that delivers to me (Pinewood) for a few months now, and in fairness there's good competition out there. Aroma, however is the best one I've ordered from by far. The duck fried rice is sublime, chicken balls are unreal and kung po chicken wow!

Excellent food and very swift delivery. Cannot speak for the atmosphere, as I got takeaway, but impressive portions and well-cooked food

However couldn’t fault the food was hot and very flavourful oh and also half the price of the aforementioned restaurant. Food arrived fast 100% deserve 5 stars

This Chinese has gone right down hill. New owners must have changed products or cannot cook! the meal I had last night was awful. Rice tubs have shrunk but price the same, food that came in tins, now in small plastic tub. Overcooked soggy rice - oil has changed. Did not enjoy been using for over 10 years will not be returning

I had the Chao mein duck, and honestly it's impressive how they still make money with the size of the portions, there is so much duck.. I wasn't sure what to add as a starter and was offered the meat balls, they are deep fried big pieces of chicken breast in very fluffy dough, and they aren't oily at all, comes with a soy sauce deep. They are phenomenal, would recommend highly . No photos sorry I ate it all.

We have been using this place for years as we voted it the best Chinese takeaway in Ipswich. However, after the last delivery we received we won't be. We understand prices have increased massively within the food industry and we don't mind paying extra to reflect this but to reduce portions and most importantly reduce the quality of the produce you send out is completely unacceptable, therefore we won't be ordering from you guys again until you rethink your target market. This is such a shame as we really enjoyed ordering from you.

First and last time maybe a bad day for them my chicken in balls were dry chips hard seemed heated up really disappointed on the up side was ready when arranged

Very dry massively salty, I was up all night having to rehydrate I could not believe how salty it was, the food was average to poor only plus was the big portion sizes, I assume that the good reviews come from people who prefer mass over quality, took ages to arrive definitely wouldn’t use again.

Never ever answer the phone. Been trying for an hour now. Customer lost!

Order took 20 mins less than they said, busy Friday night so well impressed to find everything piping hot, satay prawns were stunning only ever had chicken before, beef chow mein, lemon chicken and special fried rice….superb, really enjoyed it. Take away, home delivery only.

This is king prawn special fried rice and there is absolutely nothing what so ever special about it! Very disappointed.. I read such great reviews to receive a tasteless disappointment.

Not impressed at all, our order was completely messed up after waiting over an hour after being told 30 minutes. The man then said he will re send our order for them to only send half of it😡 nearly two hours later and still not got the correct food!!!! The man then just hung up on me! Really not happy with this.

Spending a few days in Ipswich, staying in a premier inn. Decided against eating in the Beefeater, so hunted for recommendations for a good take-away. Read the reviews and decided to take a chance. We walked to Aroma to work up an appetite. The staff were lovely and the food was some of the best Chinese food my husband and I had ever eaten. Their portions are generous, because we spent over £20, we were given veg spring rolls, samosas and prawn crackers for free (this is a customer deal for everyone). Can’t recommend this enough. Will be returning when I’m next in the area.

Favourite Chinese in Ipswich - never fails to deliver hot, fresh & very tasty food with no grease or fatty bits on/in the meat and it's so cheap for the volume of food you receive & free extras. Their lamb pancakes are the best we've found in Ipswich - our go to Chinese every time. We have tried nearly every one in Ipswich and none of them come close to Aroma, for us.

Pawn toast was 10/10. Everything else was externally dry and seem reheated. Wouldn’t order again. Was polite on the phone though and food was in time stated when delivered.

Always lovely greeting when I come to get my food, Amazing tasting food with really big generous portions,I’ve compared portion sizes and trays to the one in manningtree and Other local ones and the prices are really good also ... I highly recommend there banquet if you have a few people over, two carrier bags full and loads of duck. Vegetarian selection is very good also for my daughter and they will adjust to your liking. I would never go anywhere else... it took a few years to be able to say that about a Chinese and Aroma I have no faults... thank you I will ordering again tonight love Treena And her family 👏👏👏👌❤️

Probably the best Chinese takeaway we've tried in Ipswich over the last 14 years.

We were staying over the road so decided to try the Aroma for dinner. You get plenty of food, and fairly good value for money (£50 for 6 meals). A couple of the group were not that impressed, but another couple were very happy with their meal. The menu is much more varied than many other Chinese take-aways I have used in the past (I had lamb which I have not seen on a take-away menu before).

Best takeaway Chinese food I've found since my previous favourite was closed when the proprietor went to prison and his staff were deported as illegals! Gets busy and sometimes difficult to telephone an order through but it's always ready and nicely prepared when I go to collect. As with all takeaways delivery can be difficult as those employed to deliver can't find my house!

Really impressed with food when it first came as they were big portions and smelt nice. However, when I tried it, it just tasted and had consistency as though it had been re-heated. I was so disappointed. I wasn’t the only one that thought the same. In the end we left the chicken chow mein , beef chow mein and rubbery chicken satay. The chicken balls looked nice but again the chicken inside wasn’t great. The crispy chilli beef and smoked chicken wasn’t too bad but definitely won’t be ordering from there again and certainly won’t be recommending to anyone.

Great range of choices including Chinese, Thai, Malaysian, Japanese, inexpensive and very tasty. Free prawn crackers if spend more than a fiver, free spring rolls & samosas if spend more than £20 and free bottle of drink if spend more than £30. On top of that very friendly service.

It's OK but too much meat and not enough rice, it's almost 50/50. Otherwise good food and big portions.

Good food, a popular local Chinese take away

I have been using Aroma since before it was called Aroma. Out of all the Chinese takeaways I've used, this is the only one I really trust, and keep returning to. I work not very far from it, and often get deliveries when working at night. The service is courteous, delivery swift, and the portions good sized, and always delicious. In many years of using this establishment, not once have I ever had any cause to complain. It's a bit out of the way, but well worth trying, even if it's only for chips (which are superb, by the way). I'll probably be giving them a ring after I finish writing this.

The food that i ordered in the shop took absolutely ages,they were like headless chickens to say the least,i ordered curry with rice and it was the worst i have ever had in the industry and i have had loads chinese meals over the years.The meal came with free prawn crackers which were sealed in a bag but they were stale to the limit and were awfull,and when i opened the egg fried rice there were just chunks of egg mixed in,then the worst was to come when i opened the actual special curry,well it was a total disgrace to the industry,the curry literally flopped out of the container full of overpowering thickener and it tasted absolutely disgusting,it was like someone had chucked up their guts after a night on the beers.Avoid at all costs even if they offer free its totally unacceptable and thats being kind.

Of course they have no control over traffic, however as they are on Wherstead Road, best to avoid ordering any delivery at rush hour, ordered at 5pm arrived 6.35pm cold!

Had a mea here recently. Not very well cooked or made. Not upto it's old standards. Might just have been an off day.

One of the best 'Special Fried Rice' dishes I have ever had outside Asia. I could not fault the Crispy Chilli Beef which is a favourite of mine. My wife commented how good her noodles were. All of our meals (4) were delicious and with free prawn crackers and spring rolls we had more than enough to eat. I would certainly go there again.

Food arrived tasted absolutely awful! The food was all cold and the chawmain tasted absolute vile! Will never go there again and I don't recommend it
