Bar + Block Steakhouse in Winchester

Steak was OK, although very sinewy. Scallops and prawns were over priced for the very limited amount on the plate (3 very small prawns). When it came to desert, they offer a Banoffie Cheesecake. This consists of a tastless almost dry Cheesecake with a very thin slice of banana on the side. Very disappointed

Just had a pleasant meal for my son's 21st. Fabulous food (burgers made to perfection) and Karen, who served us, was cheerful, friendly and attentive. Prompt food. Really nice atmosphere, all staff were very welcoming. Would certainly go back.

Standards have slipped. Slow service, cold food and often missing bits/not as described. Used to be the place to eat locally but has gone downhill. Sticking with Miller & Carter going forward. Marginally more expensive but vastly superior in every sense.

The food and service was excellent. I was a bit hesitant to bring the children here as its more expensive than our normal spots and my youngest is prone to a tantrum, so wasn't sure if we should risk it! Ended up being a very pleasant meal and I would return. There was loads of options for the kids. My one complaint would be the side dishes. I added prawns and scallops for £10 and got 2 prawns and 2 scallops. While they were good the menu does not specify you only get 2 and this seemed very tight fisted.

Always guarantee awesome food, excellent service & fab cocktails! Looking forward to our return soon for our anniversary!

Another great meal and evening out at the Whiteley Bar+Block celebrating my birthday just before Christmas. Despite the issues with food supply, the menu was varied and the steak was excellent. We were very well looked after, thanks April. We will visit again soon.

Understaffed extremely slow service food ok for the price

Been to Bar & Block 5-6 times in the last year & always been very impressed. The atmosphere is great, the food is superb & priced in line with other steak houses. They’ve had some supply issues lately but nothing significant & we were made aware of on arrival so no issue.

I had a lovely meal here recently for a friend's birthday and decided to come back with my wife for New Year's Eve. The food was lovely on both occasions, despite a limited menu. As were the cocktails, and general atmosphere. It was very pleasant. I wanted to leave a review however, to highlight just how wonderful our server was tonight. If the receipt is correct their name is Corrine and they were truly fabulous. They were chatty and funny and made our evening a hundred times better than it would have been otherwise. They were also getting a bit of grief from each table beside us, for things beyond their control, and handled themselves very well. So thank you, and I hope you can pass our appreciation on to them. We will return soon and encourage our friends and family to do so too.

Disappointing and Overpriced I went to Bar & Block hoping for a good meal, but the experience was far from satisfying. I ordered an 8oz sirloin for £25, which was clearly not worth the price. The steak came with a very small portion of frozen fries and no other substantial side. If you wanted to add a sauce like peppercorn or chimichurri, it cost an extra £2 for a ridiculously small amount. On top of that, any additional vegetables were priced at a minimum of £4.5, which is simply outrageous. To make matters worse, desserts were priced between £4.5 and £8, and even a basic drink wasn’t cheap. Overall, a meal that should have been enjoyable and reasonably priced ended up feeling like a rip-off for what was offered. If you are planning to eat at Bar & Block you will need around a minimum of £50 per person I wouldn’t recommend it and won’t be returning. There are far better options at this price point.

Had a dry and pretty hard to eat cheeseburger. Fries were cold. But the cider was cold.

2 weeks before Christmas, at least a third of the menu unavailable, steaks were nice, chips were not looked and tasted like cheap supermarket steakcut oven chips, normally love bar and block but this will make me think twice before coming again, could probably of had the same quality for less in a harvester

Went for a steak and a drink with my Dad, everything was great, Phoebe was our server. She was very polite and professional.

Overpriced, slow service and don’t honour the 25% discount you can get for sign up. Looked at bill when home and they claim they’ve given us 25% off the food yet only works out as 9% yet says on the bill 25%- so very scammy on prices! Took an hour before we even got our starters, just glad the place has 4 hours free parking! The beef was nice but the potatoes were something you serve at schools, small and sloppy which left the roast dinner down. Lots of menu options unavailable especially vegan options. Wouldn’t come back

We came in Friday and had such a lovely experience, staff were very accommodating, my husband had a 36oz steak. Decided to go back after a long day Sunday due to such a greay experience and brought friends with us for a table for 6. They said nothing available until 7.30pm (3hour wait). Decided to ring up at 5.30pm to see if they could accommodate and ask for a table for 6 they said they could accommodate within an hour. Therefore the blonde girl with tattoos made us feel judged. Please remind don't judge a book by its cover especially when he spent £250 for 2 adults

Whilst Karen was the most amazing waitress, the food was just as good.

We had a great evening here. The festive steak sampler was fantastic. Phoebe and Erica were very friendly and extremely helpful. Will certainly be back at the next opportunity!

A nice meal, made better by our waitress phoebe. Good reccomendations, friendly banter, went above and beyond with the hunt for alternative tea. Had a steak, and folllowed got the reccomendation for the house sauce with the rib eye. Turned out nice. Cheers.

Decided on a whim to eat out. Arrived at 20:50 to be told the kitchen was closed. Checking the website, it says the last booking slot is at 21:00 so I suspect the staff just wanted to knock off early. Annoying.

Went in on my own for a quick lunch. And have to say great service soon as I walked in. Big smile an a welcome persons name was Sarah I found out. Food was great. Good value I felt. I’ve been in the customer service industry for over 30 years an because of the customer service from Sarah I will be visiting again very soon. Thank you Sarah and everyone. 🙏🏼

This is a nice place to relax and dine with family. Service was great by Tyler. The food menu was a laugh. We wanted BBq chicken wings. Didn't have them. Not very hot when they bought plates out. Beer and Guinness was sat on bar for about 10mins. The place wasn't even busy. To busy messing about in kitchen. It was for my brothers 50th birthday. They bought the birthday cake out without letting us know.so we didn't get a chance to film it. Nice interior though. Comfortable seating. Nice welcoming there was 6 of us.

As per usual had a great meal this evening at Bar and Block Whiteley. A fantastic Fillet Steak cooked to perfection. 2 for 1 cocktails as well. We were very well looked after by Phoebe as well. Great place for a lovely meal.

Visited with friends and cannot fault the food, drinks and service. Karen was attentive and super polite. She really couldn’t do enough for us, even giving us some extra beefy popcorn. We always find all of the staff friendly and chatty. We will definitely return. Again and again.

Really lovely atmosphere, staff were polite and welcoming. Food was reasonably priced and tasted absolutely incredible! First time here and will definitely be going back again. I believe we had Karen as our waitress who was polite, friendly, super helpful and made our experience even better!!!

I was hugely disappointed at Bar + Block this evening. Despite booking a table, we were left sitting around for over 40 minutes despite several tables being available and walk-ins being sat straight down ahead of us. Only after chasing did we finally get a table, and we saw others sharing the same issues and frustrations leave. Almost 90 minutes after we were due to dine, our food was served tepid, not as described in the menu, and altogether failed to represent good value. Throughout our visit we found most staff dismissive and unwelcoming, although the table waitress was pleasant enough. When her front of house and bar colleagues provide an unwelcoming reception, it makes it so much harder for her to deliver a great customer experience. I was left feeling embarrassed at having selected Bar + Block for our party, and won’t be in any hurry to return.

Really like The Bar and Block. We were made very welcome by a personable, courteous and attentive man in the most gorgeous pink shirt! Beautiful as was the food plus service brought to us again in a delightful, warm and professional manner by Paige. Thank you and we'll be back again soon. And great to have a table that accommodated the baby's pram too. And back a few times sine I wrote above review. Chose this great place for a special birthday lunch and was of course delighted with the service, the food, the wine, the atmosphere, all the reasons I chose here. Abu looked after us so very well and even delivered Maltezers and and a birthday card to the table ♥ Love this place and its very attentive, professional aand gifted personal staff. Thank you. Pretty good steaks but not the best I've had, very nice chunky chips, the sauce they give you comes in a ridiculously stingy little pot which was a shame. Unfortunately the ambiance of the place was just unpleasant. Really loud upbeat dance/pop music blasting throughout, had to shout to be heard. Why do chain restaurants insist on doing this? Didn't help that we were seated on a very small table surrounded by others in close proxmity.

We were welcomed by a friendly and attentive lady. Thank you for the great service, Karen... definitely not from Karen HQ. Good lunch time deals with good-sized portions, and I'm still not sure what to make of the beef flavoured popcorn 🐮🍿

As a regular visitor, I can honestly say, if you're in Whiteley or the surrounding area, give B+B a visit. The atmosphere is great, the service from the staff always exemplary, especially Karen, who always has a friendly smile and a chat if she has time. I gauge a restaurant 's quality on how busy it is and B+B is busy when you'd expect which must say something about the popularity of the place and the quality of their menu and customer service!

I have to say, after reading some bad reviews I was pleasantly surprised. The food is so good! The wife had 8oz sirloin which was cooked to perfection and I had the butchers bangers block and I'd say this is the best meal I've had in a long while also cooked to perfection, yes the prices are quite high but I guess you pay for quality. Good range of beer /lager etc, clean toilets. And our server Phoebe L was so friendly and happy. Will definitely return

Ordered orange and lemonade got pineapple weirdly. Prawns were overcooked and asparagus was also overcooked. Halloumi fries were dry and overcooked. Partners steak and chips were perfect. So if you want steak this is the place - fair enough. If you don't - don't bother going.

Service was terrible. Took 32 minutes until we were asked what we’d like to order. A further 45 minutes for food when it wasn’t busy. Steak was good. Asparagus over priced and onion rings terrible

We arrived here at 8.55pm on 8th Sept, having chosen the cinema next door to be able to come to this restaurant as the reviews were so good. When we arrived there were many staff cleaning and at the bar and no one acknowledged us. Eventually we got seated and ordered. My husband had steak medium and I ordered medium to well. Both steaks we poorly cooked. My husband actually left his as it was congealed and running blood. Mine was also bloody, fkr medium well! The triple cooked chips were so overcooked that they were empty inside, and the prawn side dish had 2 prawns and no garlic butter as discussed with the server. The server was not very helpful. I could not access blue light as no WiFi. The kitchen also had very load music playing that clashed with the restaurant music and the staff were shouting I er the music in the kitchen so we could hear everything. A terrible experience!

Service was terribly slow, however, we were given a free round of drinks. Food when it eventually came though was fantastic. Lovely decor and staff

A visit with the family to celebrate the wife’s birthday; the only reason for 4 stars on the service was for the length of time taken for the meal to come out which was a good 40 minutes or so on a Sunday lunchtime- this is not a reflection on Phoebe’s service whatsoever which was absolutely spot on. We enjoy visiting and will do so again.

Been here many times but felt the experience wasn't quite as good this time ,they Guinness on tap wasn't working and that's mine and my father's drink ,it's a popular drink and the bar is a major part part of your business ,other drinks we ordered also aren't available ,food was ok but didn't seem as good as previous visits ,Deffentely needs a bit of fine tweaking ,I think I will be looking for another eating option now.

The cocktails were very bland and diluted so we wouldn’t recommend. We had the steak sampler med-Rare which was delicious. Chips weren’t anything special and the onion rings were overdone. The chimichurri sauce was lovely. Our waitress was great and very friendly even though we could see she was very busy with all her tables. Overall steak was delicious but would only have wine in future. Cocktails are awful.

Popped in for some lunch and tried this 2 course lunch menu. Food was class, arrived quick and hot and tasted great. Had an iced coffee as well. Service was lovely I had Kaz as my waitress, she was insightful and welcoming. Overall a very pleasant experience and for £20 can’t complain.

Unfortunately this is an overpriced quite disappointing chain restaurant. Firstly the prices are outrageous. £32 for a sirloin? Be serious, you are not Hawksmoor! Secondly the quality is mediocre at best! Burger was burnt and not enjoyable. The staff were lovely but really need to improve their food and drop their prices.

Cocktails, steak and good sides! For a chain restaurant the steaks are pretty good. The desserts are nice as well!

Worse meal so far and been coming here for years. My 12oz steak was more like 8oz. I did question but obviously said it was 12. My wife's steak that was ordered medium was more like almost well done. Such a shame.

After arriving early Tom the greeter was happy to seat us. After some recommendations from Tom we decided on the chateaubriand. After a quick conversation with Aimee she was happy to steer us to some absolutely blinding starters. The service was outstanding from the minute we stepped in and the quality of the food was beyond expectations. Thank you guys we will definitely be in again.

I was really disappointed with the quality of the steak. Although it was well cooked there was little flavour and the quality of the meat was average at best and at £30 for a steak and a few chips I found it to be poor value for money. The service was good and our waitress was lovely. I will not be a returning customer.

We went for birthday drinks and a meal and we were served by Phoebe. She was very patient quick and friendly. You couldn't ask for a better waitress! The food and drinks were extremely good but the tiramisu could do with a little work we still had an amazing night!

Booked a table at the last minute for my son’s birthday. Arrived and there was a card and a bag of chocolate treats on the table and a birthday banner on the wall. It seemed short staffed but our waitress Karen was amazing, helping the barman mixing our 2 for 1 cocktails - looking after lots of tables and meeting & greeting arrivals. We all (6 of us) had super meals with absolutely no criticisms of any kind. The evening was great and many thanks to Karen who made it extra special! Great!! We’ll be back for sure.

Lovely food, fast service, gorgeous restaurant. Our server had many tables but wasn't very attentive. Busy and understandable. Didn't ask how food was, pretty much just took the order, and then the plates. It wasn't a problem, but just something I picked up on. Also there was no option to tip on the card, which I've never come across before. We didn't have cash.

This was our first time in a Bar and Block & we thought we'd try the 2 course lunch menu. So glad we did as the food was delicious at a reasonable cost from the special lunch menu - you can have 3 courses for an extra £2 but my tomatoes on bruschetta for starters & fish & chips for main were more than enough. It wasn't busy when we were there but the decor & surroundings gave a good vibe so I imagine it would be a great place to go in the evening maybe with a group of friends. Our waitress was Karen S & she was really friendly with just the right amount of 'checking' on us so thank you Karen. Would highly recommend this place as I quite fancy the bottomless brunch too!! 😁

Food was brilliant and well cooked. Brianna looked after us and she was fantastic and helped make my wife's birthday meal that little bit more special and was great with our allergens so we didn't have to worry about that at all! 😁

I came here the other evening with my friend and newborn. It was my first time but my friend has been before and recommended we come here for a catch up and meal. Not only was the food very good the service was worth me writing a review ! The First Lady we saw made sure we had space at our table to accommodate my pushchair. Our waitress was Lyndsay and she was an angel. We chatted like we had met before , she was so kind and friendly and also helped us choice from all the amazing deserts ! Her charisma was lovely to see , you could tell she really enjoys her job (rare these days!) also they didn’t rush us off our table , which was perfect as we had so much to catch up on it was nice not to be rushed like it can be in some restaurants. Thankyou for a lovely evening we will be back !

This place offers outstanding food. It has become extremely expensive over the past 2 years and so we now keep it for special occasions only; however, we always leaving feeling what a fabulous meal we have had. And best of all, they seem to have listened when we asked them not to ask for a tip - a tip being a thank you for service over and above what might reasonably be expected; it is not a right and is solely at customer discretion. Much more inclined to leave something now, if I thought it appropriate. Thank you.

The place to go for an amazing Bottomless Brunch experience! Went for Bottomless Brunch just over 2 weeks ago and I still can’t forget the fantastic service. Bottomless Brunch gets you 2 courses and then bottomless Prosecco or Pravha for 2 hours. You can have a third course for an additional £2 and you can have a selection of cocktails for £5 extra. We were served by Phoebe and she was fantastic throughout! She put us at ease advising us the two hours didn’t start until we order and then towards the end, gave us a 20 minute warning, asking us if we wanted anymore drinks. Actually throughout she was amazing at spotting when we had finished our drinks or just before asking us if we wanted more. The whole experience was great, the food was the tasty food I expected from Bar + Block Whiteley. This was also my first ever Bottomless Brunch experience and I’ll definitely be wanting to go Bar + Block Whiteley for round two.

Me and my other half decided to treat ourselves to dinner and we weren’t disappointed! Our waitress, Karen S, was amazing by constantly checking up on us and being friendly as soon as we walked through the door. All the other staff were cheerful and made it a great atmosphere. We will definitely be back!

I have an unusual dietary restriction and Gary & Connor accomplished this very well. I enjoyed my meal very much. They go out of their way to make my visit as normal as can be. I appreciate this very much & will return in the near future. Many thanks guys

Great food very tasty and the decor was lovely

We had a great meal and and the advice on selecting proved perfect as I had a curl cut 10 Oz fillet and it was fantastic. We all enjoyed our meals and would never hesitate to go back.

It would only have only taken a little to make this 5 starts. The steak was amazing, we paid extra for seafood £6 only gets you 2 small prawns 🤯 Mine came without the scallops as they were still cooking. The starter's came out in dribs and drabs also, as not all ready together. It wasn't busy when we ate so I think some work needs to be done with kitchen. Children meal was spot on, burger was cooked perfectly (a bit red). I didn't enjoy the triple cooked chips, they weren't anything special, in fact tasted a bit like old potatos. Puddings were good & children's meal was very well priced. Good cocktail & popcorn is a nice touch.

We chose this restaurant for a birthday meal out. What a mistake! From being shown our seats it took 20 minutes for someone to take our drinks order then 25 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Half the drinks were sat on the bar for 15 mins before being bought over. We then asked the bar manager to bring fresh beers over as they had been sat there for 15mins then was met with attitude and no apology. It felt like the drinks were delayed so we couldn't order more buy one get one free cocktails, we'd only managed to order one round and would have drunk more had we been served quicker. After all the drinks arrived our orders for food were then taken. 45 mins after being sat down! Starters arrived 25 minutes later and what a disappointment! Scallops were tiny! No bigger then a pound coin! And only 3 of them for £7.50. Mains then arrived 30 mins after the plates for starters were taken. Steaks were okay at best, chips could have done with a couple more minutes cooking. Triple cooked they were not! Rump steak came out in two pieces one side 1cm thick, the other side 5cm thick, impossible to get a medium rare so one side was very well done and the other medium. Overall a very disappointing evening. We decided to come here as a 'second chance' after recieving poor service a couple of years ago. We won't be giving a third chance! Food was not worth the price tag, how they can charge these prices with the quality of food they serve beggers belief. Miller and carter prices, beef-eater quality.

Service was abysmal, endless waits for both drinks and food to be ordered. Drinks sat on the bar for 15 mins before being brought over. Bar manager was rude and dismissive. Food was average and not worth the premium charged. Generally very disappointing and would not recommend. Waste of money!

Where do I even start the food was incredible first time in a long time me and my partner have both had empty plates at the end of the meal it was delicious, the service is 2nd to none , we went in on a very busy Friday evening but still had incredible service especially from Lyndasy who despite being rushed off her feet was friendly , helpful and attentive , I couldn’t recommend this place more ! 10/10 don’t miss out :)

Went out for dinner on saturday evening with a friend. the steaks were amazing and our waitress phoebe was great despite being busy!

Steak was as good as always and never disappoints. We have had poor experiences in the Portsmouth Bar and Block restaurant so we always travel further to Whiteley. The staff are always friendly and ensure our visit is enjoyable. In particular, on our visit 1st April, 2024, Karen was very charming and made us very welcome. She had excellent knowledge of the menu and cocktails to match our meal. Thank you

Tasty food, starters where a good deal shame about how teeny tiny the scallops where but nevertheless they were tasty. Mains came out promptly after starters which was great and thoroughly enjoyed. Shout out to Phoebe for her good service had lots of tables to look after but did well on a busy bank holiday, thanks girl!
