Bar + Block Steakhouse in Sutton

I had the pleasure of dining at Bar & Block in Sutton yesterday to celebrate my birthday, and I can’t say enough about the amazing experience, largely thanks to our fantastic waiter, Jessica. From the moment we sat down, she helped us navigate the menu with great recommendations, ensuring that we picked the perfect dishes. Her service was a perfect balance of elegance, class, and warmth—she made us feel like VIPs throughout the entire meal. Not only did she provide impeccable service, but she also had a wonderful sense of humor that made our evening even more enjoyable. The food itself was 10/10—cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor, and every bite was a delight. The atmosphere at the restaurant was vibrant and welcoming, making it the perfect setting for a memorable celebration with my loved ones. We will absolutely be back again soon! Thank you again, Jessica, for making my birthday dinner so special. You truly went above and beyond!

Absolutely fantastic experience at Bar and Block! From start to finish, everything was top-notch. I had the 12oz fillet steak for my main, and it was cooked to perfection – tender, juicy, and full of flavour. The seasoning was just right, and the sides complemented the steak beautifully. For dessert, I went with the chocolate brownie, and wow – it was indulgent, rich, and the perfect way to end the meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. Highly recommend this spot if you're after a great meal and excellent service. Can't wait to return!

Had a good time here, we had as a nice Person called Jordan as our waitress for the evening, he was nice and respectfull food was good

Absolutely dreadful service. We walked in and waited for 10 minutes before anyone came to seat us, we really should have left then. They could see us standing there and yet no one even acknowledged our presence. The restaurant was pretty empty (I counted 5 other tables, all about 3 or 4 people) but even if they were short staffed a simple nod and "we'll be with you shortly" would have sufficed. When they finally came to seat us there was no apology for the wait and we were simply asked have you booked and how many. They took us to a table gave us menus and 20 minutes later we hadn't even been asked if we wanted a drink. My son had to go and find the children's menus himself, they didn't ask if we wanted them. An elderly couple near us commented how terrible the service was here. Half an hour after we walked in we left. We have eaten there before and enjoyed it but it has seriously gone downhill, I'll never go back. Also just to add the atmosphere was seriously lacking, it was weirdly uncomfortable in there. It was a relief to walk out. If you manage this business please teach your staff how to acknowledge customers, and perhaps a friendlier attitude would go some way to improving the dreadful, soul sucking, clinical atmosphere. If you're there on business and have to spend an evening with a colleague you don't like that much on the company's pound, it's probably fine.... Everyone else, AVOID!!!

I organised a party of 10 ladies for a pre Christmas treat. first impressions were good but bar service was slow as only one person serving. But once we were ready to order the problems began. They were out of Turkey!! seeing as we were having the festive menu this was quite a shock. turns out they had supplier problems and there were many options on the festive menu that weren't available. As I explained to the manager we should have been told as soon as we arrived then we could make our choices accordingly. The food we did eventually get was very nice and we had 25% taken off the bill. But for a group of hard working mums it wasn't quite the relaxing treat we had hoped for. More a case of Faulty Towers.

We went as part of premier inn meal deal. The chicken skewer was amazing with the flatbread and the burger good too. The included beer was good. The desserts were fantastic just a pity that the brownie was unavailable. There was slight issue with unavailable items and broken coffee machine but we forgive this as everything else so good. Waiter was very friendly and it was a relaxing evening.

Nice place in the past has been poor service But tonight is excellent We got our food very quick the bar is very busy but only took couple mins to get served. The staff are very courteous and hard working We've eaten our food but still sitting here having drinks the prices are not cheap but great beer and great atmosphere

Regular for over 5 years and the front of house Danielle has for over a year been the reason me and the wife return every fortnight absolute recommend to all

Just had a cheeseburger and chips in the Sutton Bar + Block The waitress brought the food, looked around (I thought she was going to bring cutlery and offer sauces) then left by the main door! I had to ask the waiter who brought the cutlery and offered sauces - excellent I started to eat my cheeseburger then (after a couple of bites) I realised there was no cheese I mentioned it and he offered to have the cheese added, but by this time I just wanted to finish and leave

I had a nice meal here, but it was nothing special. I would recommend this restaurant! To eat once.

Had to wait five minutes at the door to be seated even though not busy. Food was alright however had to wait twenty minutes for service to get dessert menus and then another 20 to be seen with no staff about at all.

The food was excellent. The service was excellent. Our waitress ,Jess,was so great . Kind , easy to talk to ,loved her job , just lovely an asset to the restaurant. I will come back and recommend to friends , hopefully they get Jess as their waitress .

The menu is extensive, the venue is very comfortable, and the food is excellent. Jess, our waitress, couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. She certainly helped make the experience. All in all, it was a really lovely evening out.

Arrived and waited 6 minutes to be acknowledged.. shown to my table. Asked for an Aspall Cyder.. ahh that’s off tonight. So the food will determine my choice of beverage.. rump steak with. Chimichurri sauce. All good and cheese board for my dessert. No cheeseboard.. so red wine. ok let’s have the chicken wings to start instead. All good.. main came , steak cooked as requested.. chunky chips were cold. Then the wing starter arrived after I had eaten my main. To be fair the 2 yes,only 2 front of house guys were working their socks off tonight trying to do in my estimate of 40 covers was never going to work. Would not recommend this place.

Had a quiet and intimate Saturday evening dinner, wich cannot be said about most restaurants in London. Food was delicious, staff was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing.

An excellent experience in here. We were looked after from start to finish and we all got our food at the same time which I realise isn't easy with a table of 12. A special mention to our waitress Dannielle (I believe her name was) very friendly and very good at her job and looked after us unexceptionally well. Keep up the good work Dannielle you are a credit to your employer.

I was visiting a friend and we went for something to eat here. Got greeted and served by a lovely lady called Jessie. Was very helpful with recommending us cocktails. Had such a pleasant experience will definitely be coming back.

Have come here a couple of times before but our most recent visit was absolutely stand out! Always very impressed by the range of options - I don’t eat red meat but there is such a great selection of other food to choose from (the seabass is amazing!) and my partner tried the short rib tacos from the new Mexico menu which he absolutely loved. We were looked after by the lovely manager Jess, who recommended a very nice bottle of wine to go with our dinner. Really great spot for an evening out

The food is good and service is not bad. Beware of them overchaging you. They will ask if you need the bill, and if you say no, they will type 25% in tips.

Medium rare steak was overcooked but extremely tasy. Chips very good along with pudding.

Endless wait for a rubbery rump steak. Terrible value for money

This steakhouse is exceptional! The steaks were perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. The sides were delicious, and the service was top-notch – attentive and friendly. The ambiance was cozy yet sophisticated, making it a great spot for any occasion. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning!

Wait time was very hit and miss nice waiter but there didn't seem enough staff on to cater for the customers. Food was good but skimpy portions the two for one cocktails was a nice touch but would be nice if you could order two different ones not two the same atmosphere was nice enough not a place for a large family with kids as a bit pricey for the portions you get

Went there for our anniversary, the staff were great food didn’t take too long. We had a filler steak and a ribeye steak with drinks and dessert bill came to £100 even. Would recommend. The cheese cake was out of this world

First time at bar+Block and wow . Amazing decor , amazing atmosphere and phenomenal service. I’m usually critical but for the first time ever I have zero complaints! I came to the bottomless brunch with my friend on a Thursday afternoon and Danielle was our server, she was so kind , patient and lovely she gave us the best service. The best asset to this company if I do say so myself! Will be back again with more friends just for her . Thank you so much

The venue was slightly quieter on a Thursday which was nice and our server Danielle made our experience totally worthwhile! She was attentive, funny and a pleasure to be served by! Will definitely be back with friends and family

Average wait for the starters and mains. This is when it went downhill for me the kids meals were fine to be fair but the mains which were sirloin roast were awful. It's a real shame as not really much excuse as the restaurant was very quiet 15 odd people in. The meat was grey and very overcooked like chewing on and and leather leather boot. We both sent our food back and had it removed from the bill. Hubby and I popped in for an impromptu celebratory dinner and we were super impressed. Our server gave us such a wonderful experience! She was really attentive, made some fantastic recommendations and made sure we were well looked after. Food was absolutely delicious. Meat was well cooked and had good flavour- Make sure you try the butter chicken wings!

First time in Bar and Block last night for after work drinks. Comprising mostly of 2 for 1 cocktails and wine. Brilliant staff equally brilliant service. We are all going back for food as it looks fab. This will be our new drinking venue. Best place in Sutton, stylish, clean and worthy of a visit imo

Love going to Bar and Block and Danielle really makes the experience with her exceptional service and epic personality, so helpful and enthusiastic. We submitted our order in advance for 12 of us on our annual Epsom trip. We were staying in the adjacent Premier Inn. On arrival for our confirmed 730 booking no table had been set aside and the waitress was unaware of our order citing two chefs had rung in sick. Is there no business continuity plan. Waitress stated we'd have at least an hours wait before we could order . Seemed odd as the restaurant had about 6 customers. Whilst staffing is not the lady's fault her attitude did leave a lot to be desired. We ended up leaving the restaurant and took our business elsewhere. This is thd 3rd year running we have encountered issues with this venue although not of last nights magnitude . I will be backing this up with an email to the chains CEO on our return to West Yorkshire on Monday It gives me ni pleasure in writing this review however from experience this venue is not fit for purpose

Danielle is my favourite. She is now the one I look out for when visiting the restaurant. She has superb energy and is genuinely herself, her customer service is everything and more. Food and service was excellent.

Service was decent, a little slow with the drinks initially, although there was a large group/party going on, so that may be why. The main we had, a shared Chateaubriand, was better all round than 2 more exclusive (more renowned) restaurants we'd had the same meal at. For starters the cut of meat was worthy of a Chateaubriand. Plenty of sides and accompaniments, including extras to choose from. A little attention to detail (e.g. checking there's enough cutlery on the table) would help the overall score. The ambience was fine, but a little more 'pub-like' than restaurant-like, including the overall look, which was a shame given the overall food quality. Found one waitress a little rude, fronting up the waiter in front of the customer because he was chatting to us at the at of the meal/while paying. His strong service got you all a little extra tip, so keep that in mind when your bad attitude kicks in! Overall a very good meal, pleasantly surprised, and would probably return.

the food was perfect, steaks cooked exactly how i wanted it, starters great. drinks were good and the 2for1 deal was amazing for the drinks they provided, however the service was poor. it was pretty quiet for a thursday evening. the service at the start was good, the waitress answered any questions we had about the menu as it was the first time us visiting. however after we ordered we got no good service from that waitress. we didnt get a meal checkback and sat there waiting to ask for menus for desserts for just about 45 mins while the other tables were getting all the attention from the waitress. we waited for so long we ended up asking the lovely man on the bar for the bill, paid the bill and left. the only reason why this place is getting 3 stars is for the food and drink. the chefs were amazing.

Massive thank you to Danielle our server, who was clearly very busy but still took the time to look after us. Not only did she offer recommendations, she double checked on a couple things to make sure she had the right answers and was above and beyond helpful. The food was really good, good portions and the truffle mac and cheese I will dream about until my next visit. Also 2-4-1 cocktails which were so fresh, highly recommend.

Sorry, but tried it twice. Poor service at bar first time. Went back to give another chance and service was mediocre at best, no flexibility with drink specials, ribeye steak was edible but overcooked and overpriced. Hate leaving a not so positive review, but two times on two different days, won't try again.

Booked a table for 19.00 arrived and waited nearly 10mins to be seated but was not even though it was not busy and the waitress did see us so we sat ourselves down. Then had to wait 25mins just to get attention of a waiter just to be seen and order drinks. After waiting 25mins we ordered all our good and drinks to have in one go. We ended up waiting again and countless times trued to get the attention of the waitress and ended waiting a further 20mins just for our drinks to arrive even after reminding them.Further on from ordering our food at 19.20 we did not receive till 19.55 and during earing my salad I found a piece of plastic in the bowl. Had to get the attention of the waitress and she never apologised but was rather due and said it was oinon and she can being out 50 to peel and prove it. Absolutely appalling customer Service and just disgusting.

This place is a very great spot to socialize. It is kids friendly and the atmosphere is just superb, very neat. Staff are very cheerful and helpful. The experience was awesome. Thumbs up👍🏾!

I dined at Bar + Block tonight, hoping to enjoy a well-cooked medium-rare steak. Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. Despite expressing my dissatisfaction and sending the steak back, the second attempt was just as disappointing—dry and overcooked. The extended waits between dishes added to the frustration, making it a less-than-pleasant dining experience. Although I appreciated the gesture of a discount on the bill, the overall quality of the meal left much to be desired. I left the restaurant with an unsatisfied palate and a desire for a better steakhouse experience.

SUTTON Shocking.... seated at 7.30, waitress took order 8.30, bar refused to give us water as "you have to order with your server", starter arrived 9.30. Starter plates never cleared. Mains arrived 10.30. Desserts never arrived, 2 cocktails never arrived. 5 tables left without paying (according to the waitress) . We paid £252 exactly as per the bill (even thought desserts and cocktails missing) as When we bought up the missing items the waitress went into full on screaming mode and used the F word and literally threw the bill on the table. Even after paying the full bill of £252 they claimed they wanted another £101 .... for what? They have serious management issues and poor staffing levels. Shocking evening, not surprised to find 3 other one star reviews for the same night and same venue

We arrived at 19.45 and did not get our food until nearly 22.00 they even managed to get this wrong after asking us 4 times what we had ordered. Some people that arrived after us were getting thier food before us by the time we got our main there was no time left for us to get dessert as the waitress told us the kitchen closed at 9 but as I said we didn't receive our main until 10. And to top it off all they did was take our drinks off the bill wich were only 2 cokes I used to really like Bar and block but won't be coming back after tonight

The evening turned into a complete disaster as we waited for an hour without being served. The frustration reached its peak when a customer had to take matters into her own hands, getting up to retrieve her own food and publicly announcing her two-hour wait. Additionally, witnessing another couple enduring the same ordeal of being ignored for over two hours without receiving their food was utterly disheartening. Eventually, the situation became intolerable, forcing us to get up and leave, utterly disappointed and disheartened by the lack of service and care. This Valentine's Day meal turned out to be a far cry from the romantic dining experience we had hoped for, leaving us deeply dissatisfied and unlikely to return.

Very slow service wouldn't come back

Got here at 1pm for sunday roast only one staff poor women running around trying to serve everyone food and drinks, atleast 3 familys came and left as everything is so slow, as you can imagine with one staff. We had a main 2 hours later, longest i have ever spent in a restaurant. Will never go again unless they have more staff, food came burnt, new management total disaster

The food took slightly longer than expected but the staff was really polite and attentive in the meantime. Can’t overstate the quality of the dishes – the steak and chimichurri was brilliant!

I have been refused service at this place avoid waitress rude and constantly taking smoking breaks. I have a assistance dog with me and the chef jay accused me of not being deaf he shouted at me with the boring waitress she needs to stop smoking whatever it is it smells. Also the chef cooked a chicken breast i ordered and paid £5 for my dog and this has made her vomit and diarrhea shes an old dog and this has food poisned her this is discrimination and people are getting unwell the waitress is not washing her hands the bearded chef needs customer service training and so does the waitress shes 2 faced smiling at other customers but is very rude to me she gave other customers the menu i am a paying guest at premier inn and she has treated others differently i suppose she expects big tips A tip i can give her is HAVE SOME RESPECT AND TREAT ALL PAYING CUSTOMERS WITH RESPECT NEVER WILL I EVER STAY AT THE PREMIER INN AND ESPECIALLY EAT AT THAT UNCLEAN RESTURANT SHAME ON THEM Jess i think the nasty waitress is !!

Really good full English breakfast buffett here for £11, great if you’re staying at the premier inn. Had to update this after trying breakfast at another place, the sausages here with the breakfast are great and croissants here are fantastic when they are fresh!

Been before and the food has been passable, expensive but ok at a push. Went last night for the festive menu, we'd booked a table, to be told we had to call with our food choices - which was not on the website, so no festive menu as we had not chosen our food! Settled for normal menu, burger was warm, steak was warm, no spinach or peppercorn sauce. Had to wait for them to sort it out - the chefs looked like they were having a laugh instead of working. The young man serving tried his best to sort it when we told him, and to be honest the boy did good. Not somewhere I'd rush back to.

Good place for a steak (similar in format to Miller & Carter). Steak cooked to order, salad was simple if a little small but the triple cooked fat chips was excellent (crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle), Cost c£30per head for mains, couple of extra sides and some soft drinks! Atmosphere was quiet maybe as it was a Monday lunchtime. Service was very good!.. Consider it was good value and worth a revisit!..

Was good selection of drinks for the bottomless brunch, food was nice I had steak sandwich, girls sister steak and fries was bit on thin and small size, but overall good value.. think a bit more music and little louder to up the tempo and atmosphere

First time at B+B Sutton. Managed to get the last few Sunday roasts. Excellent quality and the staff were really attentive. Very nice space. Will be back.

Went to restaurant 11th October 2023 for my birthday and wasn't disappointed. Food and service excellent, thank you Ty for fantastic service. Lovely decor too. Would definitely recommend. Can't fault and that's why I have given 5* Went lunch time so although other diners in there, I would assume it would be busier evenings and weekends!
