Incredible restaurant with fantastic owners. The story of the caves beneath the restaurant which are now wine and champagne cellars - is truly incredible. A must visit in Notts

This is one of the best Italian fine dining restaurants in the UK.The service is very authentic and the atmosphere is special in such a lovely building.It gets busy so be prepared to wait a short while, for the fantastic dishes, with one of their top quality cocktails.There are some great Italian wines too

Excellent, great vibe and overall a great experience. The meal we had was very good, we had the focaccia and balsamic as a starter, followed by three small plates. Prawns (wow) squid (unreal) and pork belly! We then had the Fillet. Now the taste was great, however I would say slightly tough for a fillet which I was surprised about, the leek and shallot that accompanied this was excellent. My only slight criticism was the wait from initial seating to first course was a bit too long, then the same to our first plate. Not enough to put us off as we will definitely be returning. Great spot, can’t believe I’ve not been before.

We visited BarGigi with friends over the Christmas period, and the experience was truly memorable. The ambiance was fantastic—cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a special meal or a relaxed catch-up with friends. While the menu prices are a bit above average, everything was freshly prepared, and our waitress was knowledgeable, taking the time to explain the specials in detail. We were advised to order two small plates and one main to share between two, but I’d actually recommend opting for two small plates and two mains for a more satisfying experience. The wine list is extensive, and the cocktail menu offers plenty of tempting options. Overall, the service was exceptional, and the food was absolutely delicious.

I’m absolutely disgusted with the service and experience of “BAR” gigi I came in with a friend and we each ordered a drink as we were under the impression it was a Bar as it says in the name I was aware they served food but wasn’t eager to try anything the servers were extremely hostile and pretentious we were instructed to leave because someone we were with prior was eating a burger from the Christmas market they told us we needed to tell our friends to not eat a burger outside as if a scene had been caused they then said it’s best we leave because they were a restaurant and not a bar even tho it’s literally called “bar Gigi” we were treated less then and I am shocked as have always been welcomed at restaurants and frequently eat out at high end restaurants and they are overly confident in there establishment Which is a dark, cramped space with an off putting smell

Only recently tried here and have already been twice in a fortnight. Great service and fabulous food. Our new go-to in Notts.

Have been wanting to visit for a while and certainly wasn't disappointed, had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend and have a return visit. The venue is beautifully done, and has a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Was made to feel very welcome and the service was great - all very warm and genuine. Really enjoyed the food, good value for 2 courses and drinks in the city centre - especially given the quality - best gnocchi I have had - delicious! Will look forward to going back - thank you for a lovely start to the evening!

Nottingham's finest! We had an amazing meal at Gigi's last night. Between our group, we tried most things on the menu and it was all faultless. The new Mafaldine pasta was a particular favourite! A beautiful dining experience in a cosy setting. Thank you guys

Lo primero que nos llamó la atención fue el ambiente - cálido, acogedor y lleno de carácter. La decoración interior es absolutamente impresionante, con un fantástico ambiente retro, resaltado por un Fiat 500 genial que instantáneamente llamó nuestra atención. Realmente añade un toque juguetón pero elegante al restaurante, y se sintió como el escenario perfecto para una noche memorable. El personal del Bar Gigi era increíble - tan amable, atento y genuinamente servicial. Desde el momento en que entramos, nos recibieron con sonrisas y nos hicieron sentir como en casa. Realmente se esforzaron para asegurar que tuviéramos todo lo necesario e incluso se tomaron el tiempo para recomendar platos que terminaron siendo los puntos culminantes de la noche. ¡Y la comida! Ni siquiera sé por dónde empezar porque todo fue excepcional. Los ñoquis eran los mejores que he probado: suaves, almohadas y llenos de sabor. Las almohadas parmesanas eran una revelación - tan crujiente por fuera pero increíblemente esponjoso por dentro. ¡Todos estábamos hablando de ellos! Los calamares eran otro plato destacado, perfectamente cocinados y condimentados, con una masa ligera que no superaba el delicado sabor. Cada plato fue claramente hecho con cuidado y atención, y todo fue tan satisfactorio. Nos fuimos del restaurante sintiéndonos llenos e increíblemente felices, ya planeando nuestra próxima visita. Bar Gigi es el tipo de lugar al que quieres seguir volviendo - por la comida, el ambiente y la gente brillante que hace que todo suceda. Last weekend, my wife and I, along with a group of friends, had the absolute pleasure of dining at Bar Gigi, and I can honestly say it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. The first thing that struck us was the ambience - warm, welcoming, and full of character. The décor inside is absolutely stunning, with a fantastic retro vibe, highlighted by a cool Fiat 500 that instantly caught our eye. It really adds a playful yet stylish touch to the restaurant, and it felt like the perfect setting for a memorable evening. The staff at Bar Gigi were incredible - so friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and made to feel right at home. They really went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and even took the time to recommend dishes that ended up being absolute highlights of the night. And oh, the food! I don’t even know where to begin because everything was exceptional. The gnocchi was hands down the best I’ve ever tasted - soft, pillowy, and bursting with flavour. The parmesan pillows were a revelation - so crispy on the outside yet unbelievably fluffy inside. We were all raving about them! The calamari was another standout - perfectly cooked and seasoned, with a light batter that didn’t overwhelm the delicate flavour. Every dish was clearly made with care and attention, and it was all just so satisfying. We left the restaurant feeling full and incredibly happy, already planning our next visit. Bar Gigi is the kind of place you just want to keep coming back to - for the food, the atmosphere, and the brilliant people who make it all happen. It’s safe to say this won’t be our last visit - thank you, Bar Gigi, for such a wonderful evening!

We’ve just been for lunch at 2.30-4 so a bit quieter however the staff, food and setting were superb. Would return in a heart beat and I don’t often give out outstanding reviews.

Well worth a visit. Their "small" plates were absolutely delicious with unusual combinations and tastes. Try the cauliflower and celeriac fondant All gluten free!!!!

Absolutely one of the best places to eat in Nottingham. Amazing atmosphere, the staff were so helpful and lovely and the food was simply amazing. It was a truly memorable experience, we would definitely come here again.

Bar gigi has settled in my opinion into one of my favourite restaurants. Definitely set a high bar for itself the staff wine and most importantly the food was sumptuous and delightful. ..would definitely go again.

We came once before loved it so we chose to celebrate my birthday at Bar Gigi with my close family and friends. It was fantastic from start to finish. Hugh gave us a warm welcome when we arrived and was very knowledgable with suggesting what wine to go for and explained to us that the wine was from small vineyards across Italy and you could definitely taste the quality. On to the food we ordered a selection of small and large plates, each one tasting incredible with lots of different flavour profiles. The food came in sections which was great as it gave us time to enjoy each dish. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a class place for a special occasion as it is slightly on the pricer side but you do get what you pay for. Thank you Bar Gigi & team

Each time I needed to make amendments and pay the deposit, the customer service was not up to parr and I was ignored, Connor finally messaged me back advising on the menu etc but at that point we had already booked and paid a deposit, I had to call to do this? His email was confusing and worrying that no one had informed him I’d already booked and paid? Onto the day. We all arrived. The tables were fine, no one explained the menu. We ordered drinks, they came after 20-25 minutes. No water (which we asked for) we then had to ask again. Starters were ordered (only after being prompted) these took over 30 minutes to arrive and came in dribs and drabs. More wine ordered (x4 in total) took so long I had to continually ask where it was? Mains I had to ask AGAIN can we order. You took our mains, however, half the table finished before ours arrived (we ordered at the same time??) fries never arrived which were ordered and arrancini also never arrived but we’re on the bill, we had to ask for these to be removed. My partners cake. I had to ask can you bring this out? We were met with a huff. Cake was bought out. No candles (they were all in the same bag???) it felt we were a hassle constantly. Our bill came to over £800. £80 of which was a service charge. I would have CATEGORICALLY refused to pay this but the boys took care of the bill and paid as it was a special occasion and we didn’t want the fuss. The beers that were ordered came out warm. Service was absolutely diabolical. The oysters were full of shell and grit due to being opened incorrectly.

I loved the octopus, scallops and the truffle chicken. It's a bit pricey but still a perfect place for a romantic date.

We have been to this restaurant a number of times, but this time, we were there for a special event, and it was fantastic. The cave visit and lunch were exceptional and the wines excellent. The team, led by Huw served lunch and drinks impeccably and had time to explain the food and wine to all the guests, who were ALL made to feel very special

We went on 12.09.2024, to celebrate our friends' 50th Anniversary. The wine, food, service, and ambience, were all outstanding. Well done Angelo & the team, we will be back!

We had tapas on Saturday lunch which was decent, not the best I’ve ever had, some good (burratta and focaccia), some very expensive, £17 for 4 prawns! After reflecting on how expensive it ended up, and wondering why there was no pasta on the menu like we’d seen on insta, I found out via the website that we hadn’t been offered the lunch menu and had been given a dinner menu only. I hope this was a genuine mistake by the server otherwise I feel very ripped off!

Quite disappointed tbh very over priced wine for a very average bottle of wine, when we ordered one of the larger plates at a cost of £25 was extremely disappointing very small portion does not reflect the price nor the description of a larger plate don’t, the floor was also very slippery (oily) which us dangerous don’t think I will be returning….

Worst dining experience in years! Waited 45 mins for a bottle of Prosecco (had to chase twice). Waited 2 hours for main meals to come, which then arrived cold. Told if we wanted another one making it would take 25 mins- this was steak so not sure why it takes so long! Some of the tapas dishes didn’t even turn up so asked to remove from bill. Tapas dishes came 1 hour apart. Manager got involved and said the delay was due to cooking fresh meat and for lots of guests as restaurant was busy. I have been here twice before and had a lovely experience but will not be returning now. No apology from manager. Value for money not great even if the food was served hot! Really bad experience especially when celebrating a birthday.

I have been to Bar Gigi twice before and I enjoyed it but the experience this time was horrendous. We got couple of dishes to share and all of them had so many flavours in that at the end it ruined the dish completely. For reference we had the gnocchi and parpadelle which were average. We had the chicken which was dry and the octopus which was awful to eat. We also ordered the Parmesan pillows but discovered some black thing inside them. The staff said it was a potato sprout. This is unacceptable. There are so many nicer tapas place in Nottingham and value for money to go instead of going to Bar Gigi.

Excellent. We had diner a Bar Gigi July 12th and we had a small issue with a dish. The Manager reacted very well, very customer focused, very much appreciated. A problem can happen, we just mention it and the reaction was stunning. Well done ! Other than that, everything we had was excellent, the service at the perfect pace and the place is very enjoyable. Wishing Bar Gigi lots of success. Keep going !

Made me angry at my own stomach for not being big enough to fit in even more food. Amazing service, food and atmosphere. The gnocchi was probably the best I'd ever eaten until I had the pork ribs, which were the best thing I'd ever eaten until I tried truffle chicken. The wine was definitely one of the best bottles of wine I ever had.

Exceptional food, wine, and service. Everything was great, but a particular mention goes to the Gnocchi, for which we had to order extra or our group would have come to blows over who had the last few. I'm currently telling all my friends about how great the place is - mainly so I have an excuse to go back.

Popped by on a whim for a couple of drinks on the outside terrace. Inside, the restaurant is beautiful and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly, welcoming and helpful. Drinks were delicious and menu looks incredible… we will be back for dinner soon for sure!

An extremely classy & stylish restaurant, serving innovative & creative Italian tapas dishes with a creative twist …. Such an amazing culinary dining experience, with very attentive staff. The food is absolutely fabulous. We were a party of 6 & chose selections of the small plates, drinks & cocktails are plentiful too with a well stocked bar. We even had the pleasure of our very own guided tour of the fabulous champagne caves ….. Now that’s impressive Thank You Bar Gigi for hosting us ….

Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Bar Gigi last night (1/6). It was our second time here this year and we loved the new additions to the menu, especially the ribs they were so soft and full of flavour! Food was not good pasta very bland more seasoning required Poor selection of drinks.Service OK but felt staff not really interested. On the plus side the ambience was lovely however felt overpriced for what we had.

The atmosphere is really elegant, feels like a part of history with its location as being in the 1600s, I enjoyed the food as it's a fine dining small plates configured to look excellent as well as tasty bravo to the chefs would defiantly come here

Lovely atmosphere, but very disappointed over the food. Ridiculously small portions, not at all tasty or innovative and overpriced. The high prices don't match the poor quality and quantity of the dishes. I can't remember the last time I was so grossly disappointed with a restaurant. I would not recommend and would certainly not wish to come back. Unless you are willing to pay a fortune and stay hungry, I'd say avoid this place at any cost.

Gorgeous Italian restaurant in the centre of Nottingham. Incredible food, very tasty and innovative and the wine was lovely. Decor is wonderful too, love the car! The staff were very friendly and although it was very busy our waitress was great.

Had afternoon drinks and snacks here on a sunny Saturday, the waiter was a great host. Ended up going back for dinner. We had Italian small plates. Food and service was excellent. Everything home made delicious and authentic. Special mention to the cheesy gnocchi. The interior was gorgeous, low beams with white walls, really cosy and nice atmosphere. This place is a must when visiting Nottingham.

Great little place, found it at christmas when wanting a bite to eat but to busy in the square. Had lunch and the service and food was awesome. Took friends for Dinner around a month or 2 ago but sadly the food was just ok and the service slow, also the tables are to small for 4 people.

Amazing food. Bit rushed at the end as wanted desert but u only get x2 hours at the table. Was informed of this prior though so was fine. Will defo return with rest of the family. All the food was fresh and delicious! Oysters and prawns especially good!

The food is good, but not excellent. Some of the dishes were overly sweet and this took away from the other flavours. The place itself is beautiful and there's a good atmosphere. The service was very poor. It took over 45 minutes for somebody to take our order. I think overall Bar Gigi is probably a bit overpriced for what it delivers.

Gem of a venue, went for lunch with a friend on Saturday, on arrival I was the only person in there. I was offered to either have a drink at the bar or wait at the table. I sat at the bar & ordered a cocktail which was fantastic. My friend arrived & ordered her drink. We asked to be seated as we’re both hungry. The menu was explained to us as we hadn’t dined there before, we had a focaccia to share & both had the fillet & sides. Focaccia arrived & was delicious, onto the mains - beautifully presented, tasty, however only warm , I had to chase the sides up with the 3 staff who were standing chatting at the bar! ( the restaurant was only 1/4 full)I will definitely give this place another try ‘ hope the food will arrive hot on my next visit & the staff be a little more observant .

Not sure why we haven’t been here before but we will be back - that’s a promise. We had the lunchtime menu ( plenty of choice) with a few extras such as the lovely arancini . It’s a good value menu at lunchtime too if you don’t have all the extras we had! Everything was tasty and delicious. Service was great and we managed to see the chef to compliment him and he was ever so friendly too. Looking forward to the next time already !

Having dined here many times we always look forward to an evening of fine cuisine. However our last two visits have been very mediocre almost verging on disappointing. Unsure if this is down to a change of management? Chef? Or combination of both? Zucchini fries were too thick and under cooked with little seasoning.. the same for parmesan pillows which have always been one of our favourite dishes... no flavour and no seasoning ..simply too much oil and fat and no taste. Dessert was green limoncello and white chocolate which was tasty but to scale smaller than a £1 coin.. probably best to avoid if you are still hungry. Overall a real shame as we have been fans of this establishment for a few years but this evening was a real disappointment Bar Gigi what has happened to you??

Went to Gigi’s for lunch and was really impressed. The food is unusually fresh with excellent ingredients and flavours. The space is lovely and the staff are fantastic - so professional and warm.

My partner and I had a birthday meal at Gigi's tonight. The waitresses were so lovely and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. The only downside was that they didn't have any Colchester oysters, which I was looking forward to have. However, our waitress was very apologetic about it, so it wasn't a problem at all! She had great menu knowledge and gave us suggestions on what we should have. We had the burrata, scallops, pork belly, hake, octopus, Parmesan pillows, and fillet. Everything was beautiful. I'm gutted that I hadn't asked for the waitresses names as I would have mentioned them in this review. We were also given two limoncello shots on the house as it was my birthday, which I thought was a really sweet gesture. Thank you so much to Gigi for the amazing night, I had a great time. I will definitely be back!

Amazing staff with amazing food. I booked table for our anniversary. We arrived a bit earlyier and were offered to choose any table which we want. We had antipasti and 3 dishes to share. Everything was tasty, full of favor and portions was good. Beautiful charming place. Definitely will come back. 👌😊

Gigi's is a fabulous example, of great food, Service and atmosphere. This was our second visit, and we were not disappointed. The food absolutely outstanding called not fault in anyway. Full of flavor and innovative ideas. We were a table of 5 on a busy Saturday night and service was on point. Staff absolutely wonderful, attentive but not like some restaurants where it's annoying. Atmosphere is wonderful, I honestly can't fault his place at all. We will be back, again!!!

What an absolutely fabulous restaurant. We were there for Christmas lunch with some clients. The food was absolutely delicious service welcoming and the atmosphere first class. I Can't recommend it highly enough.

Very disappointed that we were turned away for drinks on Saturday 9th December when we have a girls day out we always start off with a glass of Champagne , Even though the place was empty we were offered a table round the back of the restaurant next to the toilets, when we asked if we could sit opposite the bar we were told no as these were for diner's only ,as the restaurant was completely empty we found this very disappointing customer service which will make us think twice about visiting in the future this is a poor example of customer service for your regular clientele.

Really nice restaurant with good old Italian trattoria vibe. All of the dishes were great and bergamot margarita cocktail is something I will try to recreate home, absolutely genius!

Food here is fabulous! Our server was friendly and helpful and knew the menu well! We were a table of 4 and opted for the small plates. We enjoyed every mouthful. All the dishes were bursting with flavour. Cocktails were on point, too. Enjoyed it so much I've booked to return with friends over the christmas period.

We stopped off here for afternoon cake and drinks, boy it was packed. The service was quite good, although no sugar arrived with the coffee, the cakes were lovely, and the younger generation, enjoyed their milkshakes.

My daughter booked this for my birthday meal. Went in all looked good. Ordered the food, first courses were fine. Then ordered the main sharing courses. We ordered 6 plates and the other people we were with ordered 3. So no small amount. We both ordered the squid. It was ok but a bit rubbery and stringy which means its not very fresh. Our other group ordered the gnocchi with gorganzola cheese. They said it didnt taste right. We tried it and agreed that it didnt taste right too. So they sent it back and said they didnt want a replacement(it wasnt touched other than us trying it). In the meantime 5 of our 6 courses came out which we ate( we forgot we ordered 6 as we were deep in conversation). The waiter then said had we finished and we said yes. He cleared everything. Then we realised we hadnt had the 6th course. We then prompted the waiter and he found it in the kitchen. Even though we had finished we thought we would do the honourable thing and accept it. They had completely forgotten about it. It was luke warm. There were no apologies or anything. The restaurant was very busy and i did feel sorry for the waiter as he was on his own trying to look after 7 or 8 tables(there should have been more staff on) We had pudding which was one tiny chocolate...£2.50...lol for one chocolate! We asked for the bill....they refused to take off the dish that was returned. I thought the customer was always right! The bill was no small amount...£292. So they had their monies worth. Because they wouldnt take the price of the dish off we decided not to pay the service charge. Which we felt bad about as the waiter had worked hard. After this experience we wont be rushing back...

Highly recommended place to meet and eat in Central Nottingham. A sort of Italian tapas menu. Every dish was incredibly tasty and good value. Engaging staff in modern, clean environment.

Stopped off for what I heard was Nottingham’s best espresso martini and they weren’t wrong. Delicious and creamy. My colleagues also had the cinquecento and the hibiscus margarita and everyone devoured them. Didn’t eat here but I hear on good authority that it’s great too! We sat outside in the sunshine but lots of room inside too. Super friendly bar staff who didn’t object to us filming their cocktail making skills!

Amazing food and fantastic service, had a lovely meal

At first glance, the place seemed small, but with further inspection, it was revealed to have a significant high capacity. Atmosphere was good with the decore being prestine and modern while still being able to compliment the premordern interior of the building itself. I was greeted by the waiter in a sophisticated manner and was seated just to the left of the bar. Bar gigi wasn't busy, and due to this, it was quiet. The menu was explained well by the waiter from which I ordered the colchester oysters and the chicken milonese. The waiter remembered the order with no pad need. Throughout the dine, the only faults noticed were flies around the seating area and the menus being stained and unclean, but apart from this, nothing else caught my eyes. The starter took 6 minutes to arrive, with the oysters being beautifully presented, sided with lemon. The taste was fresh and with a perfect balance of caviar and juice, which was hard to taste what it was. But truly well made and served, some of the best caviar I have had in any restaurant I have visited and rated. Once finished, I visited the restroom, which was clean and well kept, although a tight space is expected for a restaurant of this size. Once I returned to my table, I received my main, which was the chicken milonese. Well presented and served with a side of tomato suaced. On top of the chicken itself was a cheese, which was hard to differentiate from mild cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmigiano. The batter was perfectly fried with a perfect crunch and texture. The chicken itself was dry, but the side of the tomato sauce and cheese made it bearable. Overall, I wasn't very lighted with this dish as the flavors didn't compliment each other well, and the share dryness of the meat itself made it a fault in the dine. After asking the bill , I asked how the staff were treated, and the waiter had replied "very well," which I was delighted to hear. The staff do keep their tips which is good to see from the restaurant. Overall, the dine had faults but was still good.

Wow what food, what service, and a great little quirky place. Sharing platter to start, beautiful cheeses on it. We had the seafood tagliatelle and the butternut squash,gorgonzola risotto. Risotto was stunning. Can't wait to go back to have it again. Fab choices of wine and gorgeous limoncello to finish

This is my 2nd visit to this wonderful little restaurant. The 1st time for lunch (see previous review). And this visit for Dinner & wow! Everything was amazing. There’s not a bad table in this place. All of the staff are friendly, knowledgeable (helped us choose what to have) and inviting. The food was a delight, we had: ✨Antipasti Board (small) ✨Pork Belly Rib ✨Monkfish Tail ✨Fried Calamari ✨Gamberi Kataifi ✨Arancini Accompanied by a lovely Italian Rose & BG Sips FINAL THOUGHT: It is one of the best places I've eaten in, in Nottingham. We’re going to be back again & again & again … 😀

As for the high end restaurant bit overpriced for what they serve but i guess thats usuall. Menu must have changed recently as there was no tuna carpaccio. Servive was police and prompt so plus there. 1 Starter Scallops 1 Main Pasta with Truffle ala pesto 1 Side Parmesan Pillows and Pina Colada came to £64

(May 2023) A wonderfully different Italian eating experience. If you're looking for pizza and pasta dishes, then look elsewhere. What you'll find here is more of a tapas style of beautifully presented and tasty Italian dishes and flavours. The décor is unique, the building carries a lot of history in Nottingham and Gigi have managed to create a very contemporary and classy atmosphere for such an old building. The waiting staff are particularly good, many of whom bring some authenticity with their Italian background. The wine cellar will keep aficionados and amateurs happy with a broad selection of great Italian wines, many served by the glass as well as the bottle. It's not a cheap dinner, but it's not expensive either if you consider the quality of the dishes, the service and the wonderful dining room. Highly recommend.

Was recommended Bar Gigi from a work colleague. This place failed to disappoint on every level. The service was impeccable. The staff new everything about the menu and showed passion for every dish. The restaurant owner approached us after our experience and offered us a tour of the exclusive caves. This is a place we would recommend for any special occasion which you are able to tailor for any event. The food was super modern, tasty and presented well. From our experience this evening the fillet of beef went down a treat. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful experience. Florence

Wish I would have found this place sooner! We ordered a few dishes and each one of the had their own identity and flavour. If I had to choose a favourite (which is very hard) it would be the bergamot scallops which were a mouthful full of flavour. The monkfish was equally as delicious cooked so beautifully. I love how they use Italian style flavours but it’s not your typical Italian style food. Very Modern and very fun. It’s definitely somewhere you would spend a bit more money however for the quality of dishes I didn’t mind at all!

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, I was just disappointed that the food fell short……looked amazing but for me the food lacked flavour. The dishes we ordered were all vegetarian so maybe the meat & fish dishes are better.
