Decided to visit this cafe after a recommendation from another customer, took along our small dog as we are a retired couple now and he accompanies us on days out like this. Greeted by the counter staff who straight away said sorry but we don’t accept dogs here but you’re welcome to sit outside the shop in the rain! We promptly left, shall never return and promise to tell all our dog owner friends to avoid.

Once again amazing service even though we were a little late due to over sleeping. The staff are so helpful and friendly full English with extra black pudding, poached eggs were cooked to perfection. I have the Veggie stack which has the best tasting halloumi I've tasted. Lovely local family business would highly recommend you book. (Booking on a Saturday is definitely needed.) Although they will fit you in if they can.

It’s our second brekkie visit here and have to concur with some of the other reviews saying portions are a bit small. It’s ok if you don’t have a big appetite but my family are hearty eaters. Having said that the ingredients are top notch - lovely smoked bacon, very good sausage — all tasty. I suspect they won’t change anything regarding portion size as the restaurant seems to be busy regardless.

Four of us made a visit to Barnards for breakfast. This was my first ever visit so prior to the day I had a quick look at there breakfast menu online. It was soon clear that this was not the cheapest place around. However, on the day I was pleasantly surprised. I chose to have the full English breakfast. Full plate of food, nicely presented and piping hot. I decided that although this would not probably be a regular visit it was nevertheless probably worth the money. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

A long time favourite of mine and my husbands, we had a really tasty lunch here. We both went for the fish and chips although I had the smaller plate which was more than ample. The fish was nice and meaty with a crispy and light batter, the chips were tasty and the atmosphere in general is warm and cosy. Never make it to pudding unfortunately although usually (but not on this occasion) we take a slice of cake home for later!

Había buenas opciones de entrantes, platos principales y postres, y elegí gambas y ensalada de aguacate como entrante seguido de salchichas de cerdo y verduras que estaban deliciosas. For several years Barnards Restaurant has catered primarily for breakfast, lunch and afternoon teas and now only opens for evening meals on two nights per week. There is seating indoors, in the rear garden and at the front of the restaurant for those who want to keep an eye on village life. Although able to cater for many customers, booking is recommended for larger parties. Menu choice is good and individual tastes can be catered for given a couple of days notice. Staff are friendly and helpful and the service is excellent. It is possible to get a cheaper meal elsewhere but quality has to be paid for albeit prices are not excessive. Although there is no dedicated car park, there is plenty of parking available within a short distance.

Dads birthday so we booked here instead of having to traipse into Portsmouth. Can honestly say - one of the best restaurants I've ever visited (and I've been to few, here and back home in Australia!). We were greeted very warmly, seared exceptionally quickly (dinner from 6.30pm). Weather was stunning so we sat in the back yard. Restaurant staff were really lovely but not overly pushy, which can put people off.The food....one word, AMAZING!!! Starter was the cheese soufflé, main was the Lamb and dessert coffee and small portion of a dessert of my choice. All absolutely outstanding. My Mum ordered the filet steak and although her favourite blue cheese sauce wasn't on the menu, our lovely hostess went to check with the chef - came back to our table to advise 'chef has some blue cheese so can make up the sauce fresh for you' - what service!!!!I cannot recommend this little piece of heaven enough. All served fresh and we'll worth the money.Thank you to all the staff and especially the chef who I believe was also responsible for the washing up

We were looking for a nice Tea Room to visit as my wife works in one and likes to see what others have to offer. We were actually on the other side of town visiting Currys when my wife declared why don't we go to Barnards, To be honest I had worked over that way 6 months ago but had forgotten that we had peered through the window one Sunday. So off we went and parked in the Free Public Car Park opposite. On arrival we were greeted by a young lady who I asked if Breakfast was still being served, Bit of a long shot as it was 2.10pm she politely sais sorry no, But there is an open brunch sandwhich that consists of Toasted Crusty Bread with Bacon,Egg and Sausage. I was convinced and my wife had the Bacon & Brie Toastie. While we waited the drinks we had ordered came in good time. When the food arrived (quite quickly) it was well presented and mine came with a bowl of piping hot Saute potatoes that were really tasty as was my Brunch Open Sandwhich, I was asked if I wanted any sauce and being the heathen I am asked for Red, which to my surprise was Heinz.....My wife also enjoyed her toastie and Latte, Wwayhile we were eating our lunch about 15 people came over from the church opposite for takeaway coffees which the staff dealt with quite quickly and calmly.Once they had left our plates were cleared and I went up to the counter to look at the cakes and the Lady behind the counter said we have 2 more in the kitchen and quickly shot away to get them..We decided to share a piece of Carrot Cake and take one home for later as it looked so tasty and we wereruit in not disappointed, It was moist with a hint of raisins/sultanas and a large slice to boot...Overall a very pleasant Lunch well presented and tasty.

Went during week just after 2pm for late bite to eat with a girlfriend..So lunch menu had just finished.. We had however checked out the afternoon tea menu before going and both thought pricing was very good value for money.. So off for a walk up the village to Barnards we went. We both chose cream tea option and OMG fruit scones were delicious and warm. You also get a decent quantity of clotted cream and a little pot of jam (the pot I think is maybe a teeny bit too small compared to cream!) but saying that with the pot of tea enough for 2 cups for both of us just we couldn't eat both scones.. It's a hidden little treasure and don't think that many people realise it's open Tues - Sat for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea.. It's a shame it's only open Fri & Sat evening from 6pm with last orders 8pm.. Maybe rethink these hours and prices. Evening meal menu looks a bit pricey.. Will have to give it a try and then leave another review,.Overall for lunch / afternoon tea I will be back and next time bringing the husband..

We were brought the wine list, menu, a jug of water and bread and were left to choose from the menu. We were not at all hurried and were able to enjoy a long romantic dinner without constant interruptions. We mentioned that it was our anniversary and the chefs sent out homemade chocolates on a decorated plate. A lovely touch. The food was beautifully cooked and well presented. Very good value main meal rump steak and fries garlic mayonnaise and lettuce with a complimentary glass of wine for £10.99. Excellent value. Unfortunately the trio dessert for £8.99 was not so good value, the small lemon meringue pie looked nice but inside the lemon curd was completely runny. The second small dessert was meant to be a chocolate sundae, half of it was thick cream followed by liquid ice cream. The third mini dessert was panna cotta which was also melting but not as much as the other desserts, the Kirsch cherries where very strong ! It wasn't particularly busy so there was no need for melted desserts especially for their very small size for £3 pounds each was poor value for money, which was disappointing considering the main meal was excellent !The staff were courteous but lacked a smiling greeting which cost nothing especially when your in the hospitality industry.

As I pulled up and parked, my husband was sat outside enjoying a pot of tea in a nice area for people watching and car spotting. It was a little cold and windy that day so we moved inside and ordered our breakfast. The interior was a little boring and lacking in style but there was plenty of room between tables and the chairs were comfortable. Our order was quickly taken from a varied menu of breakfast items including Eggs Benedict (my husband's choice) and a list of hot breakfast items which made creating your own breakfast so simple. I selected poached eggs, bacon and grilled tomatoes. The food came quickly and was hot and delicious. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the bacon was very tasty. We ordered fruit juices which were fresh and a great latte which was hot and made with a smooth, rich coffee. We both really enjoyed our breakfast and will definitely be back soon. My husband has not stopped mentioning the gorgeous Swiss roll that sat on the counter calling his name.

Went on spec and was surprised how busy this was on a Thursday evening. However they fitted us in and so glad they did. Lamb rump was fantastic and my wife's cod was also superb. All round this was a lovely meal with an excellent starter of cheese souffle and very nice apple crumble tart for dessert. Not bad Irish coffee either and a nice Bantry Bay chenin. Can't wait to go again.

A small gathering of Family and Friends for the wake of my cousin Kathleen were treated to a lovely range of savories and cakes, tea and coffee, My request for Mint Tea was speedily answered. The atmosphere of the room soon got everyone talking and reminiscing about Kathleen. The staff were very attentive and helpful.

We held our annual Denmead twinning AGM followed by a meal at Barnards as we have done for several years. Each year I am amazed at how good the food is. keep going! A bit puzzled why it didn't come up when I keyed in Denmead restaurants?

I work locally in an office in Denmead, and every so often on a Friday we'll treat ourselves to a Bacon Sandwich from the Village.I'd only ever chosen the delicious range of pastries that Barnards sold and was always impressed at, not only how light they were but also that they arrived slightly warm (mmmmmmmm “delic”).A work colleague commented that the Sausages were a bit too lightly cooked for her taste. There was no way I wanted to dice with danger when it came to eating meat based products but I made my decision and went ahead anyway. I selected a wholemeal brown bread Sausage Sandwich and selected brown sauce as my garnish of choice. It arrived in a high quality cardboard container, with a little cup of HP carefully placed within.I took my first bite and marvelled at how soft the bread was, how delicious the sausages were, and how exactly the right amount of HP I had added to bind the whole thing together. With a Mug of Tea as its companion I settled in for the ride.At £3.50 IS IT more expensive than other similar products?Yes, it probably is. BUT. It was the high quality ingredients and civilised presentation that I appreciated, and for some people that's just a price worth paying. In summary I enjoyed my Sausage Sandwich from Barnards and have suffered no ill effects as a result.Would I buy another one?I think I’d probably try Bacon next – But that’s another review.

Barnards is long established restaurant in Denmead and is well known for its quality dinning and service. We went as a family of six on a Friday evening in mid December for a full evening meal and pre dinner drinks. Just a little shame they couldn't do a cocktail for one of our party, otherwise the drinks were all good with the Proseco nicely chilled. We all had lovely starters, Thai fish cakes, goats cheese salad and I had Roquefort and pear salad, all very beautiffuly presented. Our mains consisted of fillet of pork, corn fed chicken breast and I had the braised beef. I think that has to be the best beef meal I have ever had. Generous in size, not a scrap of fat and cooked to perfection. Yumm.Again, we all had desserts to finish, most going for sticky toffee pudding or chocolate brownies. I opted for the locally sourced cheese platter, home made chutney and savoury biscuits. Our total bill came to £234.00, including reservation deposit, meal and drinks but not tips. The service at Barnards is first class, attentative, friendly but not overdone and the food is excellent too.I/we would definately go back for more meals there in the future, perhaps breakfast one day!

I have had the pleasure to dine at Barnard's on several occasions. Recently attended with friends after a lengthy period and yet greeted and attended to, especially in remembering that I have an allergy and without any prompting advised accordingly regarding my allergy and even more so with the new allergy rulings covering restaurants and food contents. a Big Thumbs up to the staff of Barnard's and we will dine again.

My husband and I went with another couple for our three monthly visit for lunch and as usual it didn't disappoint. The service was excellent as was the food. We all had a starter and main course and were really full when we got to the sweet but they have mini desserts and coffee so we plumped for those and it was just enough but was excellent. I wish more restaurants would do mini desserts and coffee. You come away extremely satisfied and not uncomfortably full. A really good lunch time and with friendly staff. They also do breakfasts so will try those soon.

We were a party of 12 in this lovely restaurant on Saturday evening celebrating our Father's 80th birthday. The menu is not overly extensive but there was something to suit everyone, everything was served hot and the service that we received from everyone there was excellent. Would definitely recommend :-)

Went to Barnards yesterday for lunch. We go there once every three months with friends and we are never disappointed. There is a limited menu but everything is served beautifully on the plate and very hot and also with a smile. There are always quite few people in there, mainly local. The restaurant is open for business at 9.30am and locals go in there for breakfast or just a cup of coffee and a chat and perhaps to read a newspaper. Evenings are also very popular. In the nice weather there are also tables and chairs outside which are very much used in the summer months. I would recommend this restaurant. It is family run.

Sorry for the delay in the review, I am still though raving about the steak. We hadn't been to Barnards for a few years and glad to see it has not changed its quality of food and service. I ordered the fillet steak and as usual asked for it blue. As you may see from other reviews this can be a bit dodgy as unless you have a good chef and restaurant they can come out as anything from still frozen in the middle to medium to well done. I needn't have worried, the steak was cooked to perfection with temperature and by god it was like butter in the mouth. We were a party of 6 and we all left wanting more and we will be returning.

Had a family celebration and wanted somewhere a bit special to suit from 9 to 80. Couldn't fault it - something to please everyone. There is no childrens menu in the evening but I went and preordered for a pretty fussy 9 year old niece and selected from the lunchtime childrens menu. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and went out of their way to make the surprise meal special, Food was excellent - I had the mussels followed by confit of duck. The small desserts with coffee were just what was needed after the meal. I was pleasantly surprised by the bill! Have been before and will definitely be going back.

As it was my birthday, my husband booked a table. We hadn't been there for a year or so, as previous, much as we think the meals are excellent, the was always a lack of atmosphere and ambiance (bit like eating in a library!). However, this was a Saturday evening and the was a really good buzz about the place. The age group was varied and groups were chatty without being overly loud. I had soup for starter which was delicious and my husband and I both had fillet steak and chips, which was perfectly cooked. Dessert was a coffee and a small version of a dessert, which was plenty. My only reservation on this restaurant is that I think it's a little overpriced, but at least these days they've stopped charging for 'sides' and you do get a full meal for the price. Waitress service was excellent, although not as 'silver service' as it used to be

How can you mess up a Ploughman’s Lunch? Come to the D&C and see. Microwaved half baguette that went dry, crisp and stale immediately. Cheese was appalling. The worst type of cheap, tasteless, doughy cheddar. Pork pie that was missing the pork. We will not be returning.

Really enjoyed ourselves today. Service is friendly and unpretentious but always attentive, on a number of occasions staff asked us about whether we were enjoying the food. The soughdough bread was delicious and the wild garlic butter vibrant in colour and taste. We had the Porterhouse steak and oh my, it was good.
