Arrived at car park, attendant very nice, had to pay to park car, went down to beach with our dog which was very steep. Had a lovely walk along the beach and decided to have a coffee in the cafe. Big mistake! Found a seat as my husband had just had an operation and had a stick and settled the dog. Waited at the side window and staff walked in and out and about 4 staff were inside and not 1 of them said a word that I was waiting to be served in the wrong place and no sign to say no service. I then went to the front window and was last in the queue that had formed, eventually I was served. Asked for 2 coffees with not much milk. Our order was shouted that it was ready from the side window, very milky and if there was any coffee in it you couldn't tell tasted like milky water! Won't be going back.

We went on a brisk September day. Car park attendant had issues with my campervan cos it might sink into a soggy grass car park. Very helpful and looked for solutions. We did get parked. The cafe was quite busy but service prompt enough. Would go back but would avoid in popular summer periods as access must be a nightmare. Smashing sandy beach. Just a bit of a steep hill down (and back up) but well paved till the beach.

Have been visiting the beach cafe for some years ,and we are from Lancashire and know good food and very friendly staff when we see it ,to all the ones that have left low feedback ,you should get a life ,this is a beach cafe that has been there some time so it most be good ,all home-made fresh food so yes you have to wait for it to be cooked, and yes you have to line up to order, but that just shows how good it is ,good food is worth waiting for ,if you go to the magpie chip shop at whitby you line up on the street for a long time just to get in to eat average fish and chips that you pay lots for ,just because it is a famous owner , but the beach cafe has more to offer and top class food ,it is a beach cafe that has won awards from a Lancashire food academy, and the don't give them to every one ,I myself think it is the perfect place to go for breakfast on the beach, so thank-you to all the staff for good food and friendly service

Great place for breakfasts, lovely views. One afternoon we got there at 16:14 with four staff having a natter in the back and one cleaning up and after watching us look at the menu waited until we wanted to order before they said they're only doing teacakes and tea now. Pretty sure if the five of them really wanted to one of them could've rustled us up some food, all day breakfast doesn't say until 4pm and nowhere on the menu does it say we only do two items after 4pm. As a hungry family who were looking forward to some tasty food, we were deeply disappointed and went for a pub tea instead. Clearly, they couldn't be bothered, shouldn't you be trying to accommodate every customer and be grateful for the custom. Anyway, no hard feelings as we went back the next day for breakfast and will probably visit again as the food can be quite nice and the outdoor seating can't be beat for views, maybe next time a sign at the top of the hill saying we're not serving the full menu now would be helpful as we paid for parking, walked down the steep hill only to have to walk back up again hungry.

Sadly disappointed with the service and lack of customer service now. Used to be second to none with ordering inside, food brought to your table as some of the stairs are hard to navigate for some even without hands full and tables cleared. Sadly today waited 35mins in the queue to order a sandwich and chips took an hour and 20mins to get it when it wasn't that busy. Shouted like a greasy cafe to pick it up from the door and told to bring back dirty pots. No customer service anymore and average food won't be rushing back 😒

This used to be one of our favourites walking up the beach from filey for a cuppa. They have spent some money on fancy decking, more tables and ships rope barriers. We walked up recently in torrential rain and 50mph wind to find there was no covered area outside the cafe anymore? We were told we couldnt go in the cafe anymore and the nice seating down the side of the cafe had been removed? We were soaked but sat down on one of the wet benches and watched 2 women walk into the cafe through the entrance door!!! Bloody charming! A grand yorkshire welcome! The cafe still gets 3* for its location but wont be going again. A shame after visiting here for many many years. Its probably been taken over by some southerners! What a shame. Spend your money on some outside areas that are covered! Why spoil something that was so nice and welcoming?

The location of the restaurant is wonderful, right on the beach at South Sands. The menu is interesting with a good and varied choice of food, some with an eastern twist. However all our dishes lacked flavour. The Sri Lankan monkfish curry was bland and uninteresting and the accompanying roti were undercooked. The chilli crab linguine needed salt, pepper and a good dash of chilli oil to make it even mildly flavoursome. In summary, the menu and basics are good but the chef needs to be bolder with flavour.
