Excellent coffee and friendly service. All of their coffees are single origin as well so the quality is far better than 99.9% of coffeeshops.

Excellent coffee made from scratch watched the beans being ground through to the coffee being put into hot cups. Everything was spotlessly clean and the owner (one of three) clearly takes pride in the business. Open early which is great for anyone on their way to work or like us for an early appointment. Would highly recommend.

I’ve been popping in for a coffee, filter brew, and hot chocolates for years. The quality is so good and remains consistent. The baristas are top notch professionals and always friendly. I highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

I nearly didn't review this place as supporting local independent businesses is the motto of our family. But I then had a change of heart. This needs saying. We have over a few months visited here for take out coffees and hot chocolates.. The first time my husband commented that the coffee was nice but it was expensive and the "man and woman behind the counter had an attitude" The second time I was alone and noticed the sniffy attitude to. It's as though they are doing you a favour serving you. I don't need over the top false niceties but slightly friendly and polite would be nice. Roll on a few weeks and the lovely smell of coffee wafted across the road and I popped in for a take away coffee and a hot chocolate. I am a diabetic so I asked for a hot chocolate made with 100% cocoa chocolate. I then asked if they had any sweeteners to which the woman making the drink said "really? Do you really think you need more sweetener? Don't you think it's sweet enough?" I replied that it was 100% cocoa chocolate and therefore has no sugar, which was the point of the order. In anyone's book this was extremely rude. Sorry Bean and Bud, you may have your niche customers who think you are wonderful but if you are consistently as rude to non regulars you don't deserve more custom.

Nice range of coffee with different methods of brewing. Also a wide selection of filter systems to buy, V60 and others. I was impressed .

Had the most amazing chorizo and mozzarella toasted sandwich - it really was lovely! Coffee was fab too - I liked the fact I got a choice between two coffees of the week - nice to be able to try something different. The service was excellent - everything came out quick, hot and was all served with a smile :)

Found by chance as visiting Harrogate. popped in for a coffee and a tea with a cake. Lovely service. Toasted tea cake was perfect and coffee was delicious. Sometimes coffee is bitter, here they have it just right. Thank you for our lovely stop!

Never misses a beat. The coffee is always top notch. Whether you prefer filter or espresso. And it’s the only place in town that offers a variety of beans/roasters. Extremely rude customer service as I paid with a £20 pound note and was given change for a £10.. I fully understand they can be genuine mistakes and they are people out there that lie but as a customer that uses the coffee shop around 5 days a week and have never had a problem or issue I was basically called a liar. They can keep the £10 that they stole and I will never return for what it would have cost them to refund for 2 coffees until the following day was pennys. I was even willing to leave it with them until the following day but as I was waiting I could see the girl who served me talking amounst them self's saying I didn't give them a 20 if that was the last of my money they would have had a total different response.

The baristas at Bean and Bud always serve excellent artisan coffee, you can tell it isnt your run of the mill coffee beans and they also give a choice of coffee beans for my flat white from different regions of the globe. The young lad on the counter is always really friendly, so big up to him as well. Would definitely recommend, far better than the chains.

My husband and I were desperate for a coffee, found this place and - Wow !!! We had two rounds of coffees and two rounds of toasted sandwiches - ( thought we were only having a coffee 😂😂). Beautiful coffees and simple but delicious toasted sandwich. Highly recommend- support the little individual because, as this place shows, they care !

Visited for a lovely expresso and cranberry cookie..coffee was excellent and cookie delicious. Went for a walk and returned to have a fresh hummus sandwich and fruit juice. Utterly delicious and healthy . Great selection of food, coffee and tea..well worth a visit.

Lovely little coffee shop with a good selection of cake. Small menu available offering sandwiches and soup (I recommend the cheese and pickle sandwich). Staff were very welcoming. I recommend a visit to Bean&bud if you are in Harrogate!

Popped in here shortly before the closing time whilst exploring Commercial Street. I liked being offered a choice of beans and enjoyed sitting on an outside table for a few minutes with a nice latte.

Still one of my favourite places in Harrogate for a truly excellent cup of proper coffee! It might not be the largest cup you'll ever have but the quality is always spot on with a choice of beans and brewing methods . We are regular customers for a while now and the coffee never disappoints. We are coffee lovers (trust me :) and by far this is the best coffee in Harrogate! We look forward to our weekly visits to a little place of heaven.

We are not at all over fussy and never leave a bad review but I’m really cross. Came today with my family, had the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered!Asked for a skinny half shot latte, 2 lattes, 3 soft drinks, 4 bacon sandwiches and 1 cheese and pickle toasties which came to £40.40. We are in Harrogate so I expected to be paying over the odds, this wasn’t A massive problem. Shortly after ordering with a lad who had little customer Service skills as we had asked for the bacon well done and was told this wasn’t possible as it was pre cooked and then warmed so basically that was how it was coming, a man came out to say he had no white rolls so seeded rolls were going to be provided. I asked if it could be white bread for all 4 and as they didn’t have enough White bread I asked for a refund for the food as my little ones are actually fussy about bread. As well as the husband! This obviously upset the man as i was made to feel like an awkward customer. I then asked which one was the skinny half shot and was told they were all skinny with one shot. I then said I asked for one skinny and half a shot and the lad said I asked you what milk you wanted for the other two which was not asked at all. Really poor experience the absolute worst customer service and to top it off The coffee was warm not hot to add insult to injury. Had they been slightly apologetic for anything I wouldn’t be writing this review as it would have been dealt with. Some people’s money just isn’t good enough for some establishments!

For me the best coffee in Harrogate ( and in Baltizens). You can choose at least two types of coffe beans you want your coffee to be made of. Knowledgeable service.

My husband and I have just popped into Bean & Bud this afternoon for a quick coffee. We were very late and close to closing time, but the welcome as always was warm and the coffee and rock bun lovely. In these difficult times I think they are doing a fantastic job and, for a few minutes, I forgot about what was going on in the world and felt normal.

I used to be a regular customer to Bean and Bud when it was run by Ruth and Haydon. It WAS in every way exemplary. The food, coffee and standard of service were second to none and a warm welcome always awaited you, BUT it now has new owners and frankly they have no idea how to run a coffee shop. The coffee shop is kept clean, but the quality of the food ingredients is in my opinion below par. Ruth and Haydon prided themselves in sourcing the best quality bread and sandwich ingredients, but the new owners are cynical and think they can get away with charging eye watering prices for subservient food. The proprietor comes across as downright curt and offhand and makes you feel that having customers in her cafe is a nuisance to say the least! Sadly another great cafe bites the dust.

Great little coffee shop - suggested as a place to meet with friends - lovely coffee ( didn’t try the cakes but they look stunning). We will be back again.

Great vegan latte (with oat milk) relaxing atmosphere and scrummy cakes. What more do you need! You pay a bit more but the quality of the coffee is much better than the nearest rivals.

3 or 4 years ago I was looking for a great coffee in Harrogate, so I searched this question on Tripadvisor. 'Bean and Bud' delivered wonderfully and I became a regular visitor. Sadly, Ruth and Haydyn sold up and the new owners seemed to have ignored the magic recipe for their success.I've visited 6 or 7 times under the new management but I think it was my last today as the soul has been ripped out of this quaint, independently owned, specialist coffee shop/ cafe.The coffee is still OK if you want something with milk; but if you want a purist black coffee, those days are over. It now seems too much effort to prepare a pour-over or a V60, so you might be offered a "BATCH" coffee (poured from a push-button flask that you might get in a 3-star hotel). At that moment you're thinking of ordering something special and you're offered something 'mass produced'. It's their business model and one has to respect it. But today, an AeroPress, a pour-over or a V-60 were unavailabe as they had no appropriate coffee. 'Bean and Bud' used to serve the best coffee in Yorkshire alongside the tastiest treats, made by 'Tart and Berry'. Now they serve average coffee and average cakes. I hope the new business model makes sense regarding profitability; it definitely makes no sense to me as a consumer.

Very average. A lukewarm ‘welcome’. Found the menus ourselves and took a seat. I ordered Skyr yoghurt with ‘fruit, nuts & honey’. It didn’t come with any nuts, and didn’t need the honey as it was strawberry flavour (was I wrong to presume it would be natural flavour if it came with honey?!). The bah humbug sign/hat on display (can’t remember which) said it all! Then overheard staff rotas being discussed as we left. Customers don’t need to be in on this information. Every other place we visited in Harrogate was fab, this was the exception.

Amazing coffee and staff. Quirky little place and feeling really at home from the moment you step in. Perfect hideaway from the rain! Not cheap but once your lips touch the coffee it makes sense!

What an amazing coffee shop with such knowledgable and helpful staff! If you love coffee (and I’m not talking about the chain sugar filled coffees that are full of syrup) this is the place for you. We had an amazing aeropress coffee and a flat white. We didn’t have any food but the desserts looked incredible.

Good choice of interesting coffees in a range of styles. Cakes and pastries are good too. It is a bit pretentious but that's part of the fun. We always make a bee-line for this place when we're in town. Handy also for some good local shops.

The coffee purists go-to in town, they serve the best variety of coffee roasts, and milk options always poured to a great standard. The interior is unpretentious and the staff are always friendly and there is also small menu of food that suits most dietary requirements.

Was in Harrogate for the night so popped here for a latte and a cake for breakfast. The staff were lovely. I often find sometimes in independent small coffee shop spaces when you initially walk in, you can feel a little awkward in the small environment but this wasn’t the case here we were instantly welcomed in by the staff behind the counter. Really friendly and warm! Coffees were beautiful and I got a berry bake cake with blueberries in and it was to die for! Really gorgeous place. Highly recommend xx

Having spent a long time in many of the towns coffee shops over the week of the UCI World Cycling Championships and drinking a lot of coffee. I can honestly say this place serves the best espresso in town....and the cakes are pretty good too

A fantastic find. They did an excellent lunch of soup and sandwich that was very high quality and well presented. It was hot and tasty and the atmosphere was busy but relaxed. Came back for coffee the following day and the quality was equally good with cookies and flapjacks home made and very tasty. It was excellent value for money and the friendly service much appreciated..

Just happened upon this amazing little place in our search for desperately needed coffee and sugar rush as we arrived in Harrogate. Really landed on our feet here. Welcoming, efficient staff. Fabulous smells of coffee & other temptations. Our Guatemalan flat whites were heavenly. Just great coffee beautifully served and the accompanying seeded flapjack sorted out the hypoglycaemia. Wish we lived nearer!

I waited 14 minutes for a latte that was verging on cold, the cafe wasn't busy and I understand they are trying to get a high standard, but 14 minutes!!!! Definitely not worth it!

Have been meaning to visit Bean and Bud for years then visited yesterday with my mother.She had a latte and i had a pot of tea the Bean and bud blend which was lovely plus a slice of yummy flapjack with seeds on top.What makes Bean and bud stand out for me is the range of different teas and how theyre served with loose tea in a filter and you get a timer to tell you when to remove your filter.Will be back soon!

The staff in here were nice and friendly. The lady gave me a choice of Peruvian or Rwandan coffee for my Americano, so I blaggingly chose Peruvian without having a clue of the difference. She also gave me a choice of hot and cold milk, and I like it when they do that, as a hot coffee lasts longer and produces more contemplation time The coffee had a rich, orangy-brown colour to it, with a back taste of almost Indian spicy flavour, though I couldn't decide what spice exactly. This café was a great experience and provided the best coffee of my trip. So many places proclaim to be coffee specialists, but Bean and Bud delivers.

After walking around Harrogate for hours the Bean and Bud was exactly what we needed. I had a freshly brewed peppermint tea and yogurt with all the trimmings. My husband had a cold drink and the soup and said it was delicious.

Frequent visitor of this awesome 2nd home. Loads of great memories. And the staff are amazing. Love to bring my dog and relax. Look forward to many caffeinated beverages to come.

Harrogate is kind of spoilt for choice when it comes to getting a good cup of coffee but if you want an amazing cup of coffee then look no further than Bean and Bud.

Really, really nice coffee, food, staff...but it’s a typical harrogate cafe, overrun by +65 that feel they are of positions of status and kill any modern vibe...The older generation is this town need to chill out!

Searched the internet for place for a good coffee shop to get my coffee fix while at a conference in Harrogate and stumbled across Bean and Bud. It turns out it was recently taken over by new management and the place was fantastic. Excellent coffee, great breakfast options and friendly staff. Well worth a visit!

Visited twice while on a vacation in Harrogate. I believe that we had our best cups of coffee ever. Cake was also excellent

This is a wonderful little place. Staff really know their beans. Ive tasted coffee from around the world in the countries of origin so know a good cup...and they do it well. The options for serving are good Snacks also great.

The Masala Chai is the most delicious tea I've ever had, you have to try it!

We called in to avoid the imminent Bank Holiday rain and this brought out the sunshine! Lovely. Great little place tucked away somewhere just past the hardware store and before the town's tattooist.

Harrogate has lots of nice cafes who serve decent coffee. But if you want something exceptional Bean and Bud is definitely your destination. I would go as far as the best coffee I ever tasted. At the same time, I now compare all the cafes and their coffee to Bean and Bud and most of the time I am very disappointed as I can't find a match. In a way, I wish I never tried coffee here because i feel like I am too fussy everywhere else. I like the ambiance in the cafe too. Nothing pretentious, simple interior, just a place to come and enjoy an amazing cup of coffee and read a magazine.

As a coffee snob who never and I mean never drinks the chains coffee this is right up my street. Great coffee in the right size cups and full of taste. Thank you very much for a great coffee experience,. I also didn't mind paying extra for quality

A Barista that takes his work seriously. A good cup of coffee was had with a good variety of coffee beans. However it was the mocha that was a true work of art. Made from real chocolate- the range of choice was from white chocolate to over 80%. Bliss, to which was the added factor that it was HOT. So in essence my husband a fantastic mix of coffee and chocolate (56% for him) that blended well in a hot beverage. All this in an environment that was congenial and with very good service. The chocolate twist was just an added bonus.

Have been going to Bean and Bud for about 2 years now. I find that I plan my days work around my visits to this coffee shop each day. In fact whenever I need to meet a new client, I arrange to meet them in Bean and Bud. The coffee is prepared in such a way that it is impossible to find fault and I would challenge anyone not to agree with me. But my wife hates the smell of coffee and loves drinking tea and tells me that the tea in Bean and Buds is the best she has ever tasted. So we visit regularly for the best tea and coffee in Harrogate and probably the North of England. They also serve some great cakes, sandwiches and toasties. But above all the service in Bean and Buds is outstanding and even when Hayden and Ruth are away, the high standards are never compromised and the staff have a smile and a kind word for everyone.

A nice little shop, good choice of coffee and cakes. Dog friendly with plenty of helpful and. Ice staff to help you out. I can only think the other reviewers are ‘projecting’ their own issues into the staff! 😉

We try and visit local cafés rather than chains. Helpful advice was given on the beans available. We had coffee from Peru which had depth and flavour and a Madagascar Hot Chocolate. Amazing and a refreshing change from the usual run of the mill places.

I very rarely leave anything other than 5* reviews but was very disappointed with the customer service as the guy at the counter was sighing and rolling his eyes while we ordered coffee. It was quite awkward actually. On the plus side (and why this review is not 1*) the coffee was good quality. To be fair I’m sure he was just having a bad day, but it really was rude!

Let’s start with the positive..AMAZING coffee. The staff however are miserable , it’s like there is a lot of tension behind the scenes, but it’s not that well hidden. Sandwich I had had good quality ingredients but it came straight out of the fridge!

My friend and I call in every week for our weekly treat. Their speciality coffees are fabulous as are the hot chocolates, my favourite is the Madagascan 80% chocolate it’s the best around. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and always happy to help. There’s a fabulous selection of sandwiches and cakes too. Definitely the best independent coffee shop around!!

First time here. What was pleasant was the range of different coffee beans to choose from. The coffee was great and makes you realise how much better these independent coffee shops are than the chains. Also I've found other coffee bars too full sometimes of people on their laptops working and sprawling over tables. This was a very relaxed atmosphere. Nice honey to go with the toast.

There is a very good cafe in Leeds (please bear with me) and the owner once told me that a customer once enquired about ordering a sandwich, but wanted to see it before ordering. The owner (patiently) explained that sandwiches were made to order (and therefore not 'visible' in advance. The customer apparently responded that he might look at his sandwich where he normally went. And so the owner invited him to do so.

We went here for a light lunch when visiting Harrogate. The staff were very helpful and the coffee choice great. The Thai green curry soup my wife had was excellent. This place is definately worth finding

Called in for morning coffee, they suggested I try the Brazilian blend but just tasted burnt to me. Very expensive with no added value to justify it, serving the coffee on a wooden board is just pretentious.

I visited here recently for a morning coffee. We were warmly welcomed and the impressive choice of coffees was clearly explained to us. Both our selections were really lovely so we decided to treat ourselves to a second and some cakes! These were really delicious too. This lovely little, friendly café is a real gem and a great asset for Harrogate among the various bland chain cafes. I'm definitely going to make it a regular place to visit :-)
