A lovely little pub, staff are super friendly, menu has something for everyone and there is ample beer garden space to the rear. I recommend the Yankee ham!

Called in for a drink to The Bird in Hand. I was last there over 8 years ago. What a change! We were welcomed by the landlady, who had on offer a wide range of real ales, ciders and lagers. The pub had a great village pub feel and was clearly both a 'local' and visited by those further afield. The landlady was enthusiastic about the open mic sessions on the last Thursday of each month, so much so, I resolved get to one of those. The kitchen was busy and it seemed meals were being served from a varied menu.

Lovely local village pub. Called in on the off chance yesterday evening after a day on the West Somerset Railway. Warm friendly welcome, great atmosphere in the pub, the chef was ill so it was explained a couple of items were off the menu. I chose the madras curry which was one of the best curries I’d ever had & my friend chose the lasagne which looked great. We sat outside in the beer garden. Would definitely visit again & highly recommend

Usual macro beers but with the local Quantock Brewery IPA. Good pub grub.

Good traditional pub with great food beer including guest ales and plenty of local charm.Great food with good portion size.Great atmosphere and a garden with usual picnic tables for a drink or food right in the heart of the village. If your looking for that traditional village pub where the locals go then this is the place.

Met up with some friends was nice to see them

a small cosy pub - we had a lovely Sunday roast there. The lamb and the beef were perfect, and the roast potatoes and parsnips fab too. Special mention also to the lovely cheesy cauli cheese. We went there after a ride on the WSR steam train - glad we picked this pub for our lunch. price for 2 pints and 3 roasts was under £50 as well - we'll be back!

Lovely village pub. Very friendly

Called in for a working lunch. Friendly welcome, nice atmosphere, busy but not crowded, TV on showing news but at perfect volume, not too loud. Good selection of beer. The lunch menu is simple and cheerful - jackets, ham, egg and chips, chilli etc - and our food came in good time and was hot and tasty. Lovely village pub to which I'll certainly return.

Wow just been to The Bird in Hand , Bishops Lydeard . My partner bought a coffee for himself , a soft drink for my son and a bottle of Prosecco for me. We sat in the garden for a few hours and my partner and son played pool . Then we got approached by the owner ……. Her words were ‘ can you not bring your own Prosecco and drink it in my pub ‘ Wow, she was rude and should maybe check her cameras / stock / staff . We paid for that Prosecco and didn’t even get a bucket or ice !! Then to be accused of bringing in my own alcohol !! She wasn’t even sorry or embarrassed to of accused us wrongly . I am a business owner , aged 48 not my style to bring in my own alcohol to my local village pub . I won’t be supporting that place anymore !!

Lovely place to stop for a drink.

Came on the train from Minehead and walked into the village. Found this lovely pub and was made welcome. The food is well cooked and the portions are huge, but best of all dog friendly inside or out. Will definitely come again. 🍺🐾👍

Went with the family for the Sunday roast and none of us were disappointed, the beef and pork was perfectly cooked, the sides were plentiful and the pudding was demolished by all! Staff were attentive and welcoming. Definitely the best pub in the village!

Went here 3 days in a row when we stayed locally for the weekend. A lovely traditional pub with excellent food. Service was great. Dog friendly and the locals are very welcoming

Everything a pub should be. Recent live music night with 'The Birddogs' was best music night I've been to for a long time. Friendly mixed crowd and good beer!

We almost walked past this pub, while on a short break in Bishops Lydeard, until we looked at the menu and decided to stay. The food was really good, atmosphere brilliant, with lots of laughs with the locals - and a power cut for a short time, which gave us all something to laugh about !

So disappointed in the pub ,the food was good but everything else was awful the so called restaurant had a dart board stuck on the wall ,all the tables were plain no placemats etc it really needs some tender loving care we weren’t holiday and didn’t expect a spit and sawdust pub to have a nice meal in

Good honest pub food, good selection of beer and cider, we ordered full English double version, standard burger and the hunters chicken, no complaints and very reasonably priced.

Enquired on Facebook and received a friendly reply with copy of menu. A prompt, welcoming reply was appreciated so we booked a table. Three of us had a mixture of vegetarian meals which were all good as was the real ale. We received a warm welcome and serving staff were really helpful. What really appealed though was what a brilliant, down-to-earth family locals pub it was. Places like this are getting hard to find in the age of the gastropub, but there was a good mix of ages, diners and drinkers, a table of older gents enjoying a game of poker. The locals were really friendly and we were jealous that we don’t have such a great pub on our doorstep. It was good to see a busy pub on a Friday night. I get the feeling know that they are lucky!

Last week, me and my Partner were visiting Bishops Lydeard. After a long drive from Liverpool we took our dog, Pippa, to Bird in Hand for some grub. Upon entering we were welcomed by Kieran and cute little bar-dog Lexi. We had some food (lasagne and sausage and mash) it was class pub food (served by Lily with a smile!). Brilliant. We went back on the Bank holiday Sunday, and had one of the best nights ever. All the locals were extremely friendly and welcoming, Niki, Cath and Shirely were friendly, accommodating and could not have made us feel more at home. We returned a few days later to have dinner again (there is not many places to go in B.L!) and Chef Grahame's Fish and chips was a winner! We made some nice friends, played a game of skittles (I was rubbish) and cannot wait to return one day soon. Thanks to all the brilliant staff, locals and little dog Lexi xx Lucy and Michael

Very good service and changed menu 2 suit us maybe a little cramped with locals and maybe could of offered to open up top section near dart board lots of dogs but not a problem iff they were controlled

Food is always ‘hit or miss’ and overpriced for the pleasure. Not very accommodating staff, can’t take criticism and to say ‘rude’ is being too polite!!

Family run pub with a lovely warm atmosphere. Impressive menu, light bites , pub classics , variety of main meals and impressive special board with regular updates.Myself and partner really enjoyed our meal. As always great service and very friendly. Would highly recommend and look forward to our next meal.

I love the lunch menu, the chicken wrap with garlic mayo is a winner for me. Lovely to sit down near a nice fire and soak up the atmosphere.

We have eaten here a few times and often(don't tell the wife) pop in for a drink. The food is always great, plenty of drinks choice and friendly service. Dogs are welcome and they've got a great beer garden as well.

A warm welcome, friendly service followed by an excellent traditional Turkey roast. The food was well presented, well cooked and sufficient for anyones appetite. No hesitation in recommending this fine friendly public house

Amazing place, very friendly staff, wonderful food. Whether you are after a quick after work pint, lazy afternoon chatting with friends or meal out, this is best place in the area. Highly recommend the steak night for special occasions. The normal menu is varied and great value for money. Will be visiting again and again.

The bird is our local so was definitely first choice to host a dinner for 17 (mixed ages from 5 to 74!) the evening was lovely so we sat outside, all 17 meals turned up at the same time and tasted lovely. The atmosphere is always good, the service is attentive and prompt and food is great. Beer garden is spacious and comfortable, thank you to nicky and the team.

We made a last minute booking, the landlady was very helpful and welcoming fitted us in the bar area. Good menu and specials board. Wonderful to have this lovely old pub in this Somerset village.

Called in this Pub for lunch and although looking run very down we thought we would give the food a try..Not a good idea! Ordered a 2 steaks that were tough and tasteless..very bland dish. Im told its a good drinkers pub though!

Unbelievably comfortable within this small pub, the owners are very patient with the size of our group which attended on the day. The food is amazing and the service is very quick. Large out door space makes it comfortable to sit as a group outside. Have returned on numerous occasions since my last visit, could not recommend a place more

Called in for lunch from the West Somerset Railway last Saturday.. We both had Chicken Caesar Salad for our main course from the specials board , which was apt as it was very generous with the chicken portions , and tasted wonderful with the dressing on the salad ..A new chef has joined them there and they are exceptional with their food preparation...When we are next in Bishops Lydeard we will return because we enjoyed it so much . The Pub has had a make over inside with new seat cushions and curtains , and also has widescreen TV’s in the bar area ..and was well supported by the locals .We were well looked after by the man serving us .

Stopped for a ale and food . The food was alot lower end than expected for a country pub . The person pouring my ale appeared to be untrained in pouring
