Had a lovely day at South Devon Railway, and went into cafe for a sandwich and cup of tea, what I thought was 3 ham sandwiches turned out to be one ham two JAM none of them had any spead on the bread and the JAM as just a small amount in the middle, you couldn't see. This cost was over £14 very expensive for what it was. Will think twice before going again.☹

Top service from the young lady behind the counter, a bubbly demeanour, and a sparkling personality, top job guys, oh the food is great also... the "Full steam breakfast" is particularly worthwhile...

£14.40 for a small bottle of prosecco and a bottle of beer. Served in a plastic party cup. Seems a bit of a captive market with the railway. We headed to the pub in town where the same order was under £8. Good location.

Had a super tasty, filling vegetarian breakfast at this place today, what s find! The smoky beans were delicious. JJ was very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended and the local steam train station and otters and butterfly’s sanctuary and river walk make this a great day out.

Spent the day on the railway and stopped here for lunch, ham egg and chips was delicious and very plentiful. Very reasonably priced and didn't have to wait long for the food so would definitely recommend it while enjoying the railway

What a treasure! We were looking for the Buckfastleigh services and stumbled upon Birdies Kitchen at the South Devon Railway Station. The "Full Steam Ahead" breakfast was possibly the best breakfast I have ever had! Amazing quality ingredients along with excellent coffee made this the perfect brunch. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Our dogs were welcomed and made a fuss of. Highly recommended. Thank you for a lovely unexpected treat.

Very disappointed when we arrived at the restaurant that you only take card payments only and not cash as well. We are old age pensioners and had to wait until some younger friends came so we could have coffee and food of which was very nice thankyou, we think you should have a rethink about your approach to card only as I feel as a business owner myself you are missing out on some vital trade in these pressing times.

It's a great location and a nice cafe, but two things really let it down, IMO. One is no cash accepted, and the other is charging quite a lot more for oat milk instead of dairy. That business decision is not worth the cost in a loss of sense of hospitality on that point, IMO.

Went yesterday, ordered ham eggs and chips. It took only 5 minutes to arrive, the chips were not chips but fries. The fries would have been okay if they hadn't had been cooked twice. They were very greesy and overcooked. Have been going there for years but won't be paying nearly £12 for awful food.

Went here yesterday for lunch with my daughter and granddaughter. Very impressed with the child's lunch as it included sandwich, drink, crisps, piece of fruit and a veggie snack pot. However, my sandwich was out of date, the bread was stale and the contents were sour tasting. I went and complained but was told it couldn't be like that as they sell so much they don't get food left over. Tried to eat it but it was awful, my daughter tried it and also said it was definitely off. Before we left I complained to someone else and he did give me a refund but I left having had no lunch when it should have been replaced the first time I complained!

Good food, plenty of seating. Lady initially overcharged me but I came back later, explained and she honoured (more than) the difference with a free cake. It was seemingly an honest mistake and the gesture was appreciated.

I had ordered two breakfasts for £12 each and when they came to the table both were stone cold, when i went up to get the attention of the workers they were actively avoiding me and generally seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Great area around the cafe, and all the locals are super friendly.

I tried the Moroccan Breakfast which was absolutely superb, it's exactly as described, and was extremely tasty. Very happy I tried something different. Husband had a "Full Steam Ahead" breakfast which had everything you could possibly want in a full-english, and very nicely done. We'll be back later for the cream tea / cakes which looked very inviting. Perfect start to our day. Thank you Birdie's Kitchen.

WOW, what a lovely experience to visit for breakfast today. It was busy but my superb breakfast arrived beautifully cooked and presented within 10 minutes of ordering. Even my coffee was still warm! Which is a pleasant novelty compared to many establishments. Any previous criticisms are now definitely past history, following an incredible makeover and revamp. Can't recommend enough, well done to the owners and staf. 👍👍👍

A very early put stop for us on our way to a funeral in Plymouth in absolutely pouring rain. Hot drinks and some sausage and bacon baps set us up for the next stage of our journey. Plenty of filling in the baps and they were warmed through for us while we waited. Good natured and friendly staff prepared to have a joke with you! Very glad we opted for here, not the golden arches a couple of miles up the road. I have pinned it on Google maps so I don't need to look for it next time. If there is a negative comment it is the fact there were only two accessible disabled bays, the other two made inoperative as a ramp had been put over them. The main car park is quite a hike from the café and shop. Hopefully this will be sorted before we return in a month or so. Hence only 4 stars.

Glad to have found this place as the train doesn't run very frequently, and the Cafe at the Otter Sanctuary was closed. Decent selection of food + drinks in fairness. Little run-down, but not too bad. Soap pumps in the Gents weren't working so marked down a star.

Terrible service and food availability. Teenage staff that looked like they didn’t want to be there, didn’t know what things were on the menu and basically had no idea what they were doing, l heard one girl ask how to make a milkshake!! I felt embarrassed that we still have places like this in prime tourist locations that clearly aren’t managed or run properly. It fortunately didn’t spoil our ‘Day out with Thomas the Tank engine’ but my advice would be to BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH!

Visited Birdies kitchen for the first time after seeing a lot of advertising on Facebook. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, as it is part of the South Devon Railway in Buckfastleigh there's lots to see and do. I had a half steam english breakfast and the scrambled eggs were delicious and the breakfast was reasonably priced. There is also an amazing model shop on the side, which is great to look at, I definitely will be returning in the future to try some of there other great food on there large menu.

After being totally let down by another, nearby establishment, apparently can’t book a table for less than 6 people 🤷‍♀️🙄 and trying to just be a walk in and failing miserably, myself and a good friend were completely at a loss of where to go. Having not been in town for some time I suggested Coffee Corture, but even unsure it was still there 🙈 As we walked up to the front door we could see it was really busy inside and was deliberating walking away. A lovely, smily gentlemen (assuming this is the owner/manager) open the door and asked if he could help. We sheepishly replied, anything for 2 of us? Without hesitation he had us inside and gave us several options as seating choices. At first we were just having coffees, we had planned to eat but at this point wasn’t sure if food was an option. The table we were on had to be vacated by a certain time but were again given options of other tables. As we were enjoying the ambiance we decided on another coffee and moved to a smaller table to free up the reserved table we were on. I asked about food and was politely told the options. As the establishment already had several big tables eating, our options were limited. At that point we decided not to eat and were more than happy with the delicious coffees Shortly after the lovely waitress came over and explained, as they had now served one of the big tables there was a window for food to be served to us and handed us a menu. We did indeed order some lovely dishes. Immediately the waiters came over with another small table realising we wouldn’t have enough space on our modest table to fit everything on. The food was delicious. Service exemplary. I can honestly say I’ve never ever been in such an accommodating and friendly establishment. We really did feel like VIPs Thank you so much for making our little Christmas catch up so wonderful. It is true, what doesn’t work out really works out, and last night really couldn’t have worked out any better. So thank you 🙏🏼 we will be back! ❤️

Hotel was ideally located for our trip to Exeter. The room was small but ideal for one night and had what we needed. There is a restaurant and bar on site and a petrol station next door. Not a fancy hotel by any means but good enough for a short stay whilst passing
