Birds Bakery in Derbyshire Dales

They need to check their prices. Stickers on products say one price. Pay at the counter and they add money on. Asked the staff about it very rude and said we know but still over charged me.

Oh dear. On walking in to an empty shop the lady serving completed her tasks then asked me for my order. I politely responded to then watch her give her attention to a courier/delivery guy who walked in some time after me and then access a screen behind her leaving me hanging...how rude! Customer service keeps businesses alive....

I was just taking shelter from a sudden rain shower under their front canopy, and the charming ladies inside decided to close it! Great way to win customers ladies!! 🤣

All of the breads and cakes are well presented and fresh. The staff are friendly. You can also pick up a lovely lunch here. There is often a queue, but this can only be a good sign!

Steakbake and sausage rolls average. Finger rolls very nice! Not worth £10 to buy

They've got hot and cold food and you can also get hot drinks there.

Lovely staff in the matlock shop, always very welcoming and friendly. Bought 12 mince pies as lovely as ever, but, the pork pie I bought was awful. It was fresh in on that day because I asked. The meat had no taste, the pastry was under cooked inside and the teeniest bit of jelly which I always think jelly gives it its flavour. My partner hasn't eaten any other pork pies for years because yours were so good but I've been told not to waste my money in future. I hope Birds aren't scrimping on quality like alot of other companies because we know what happens to them.

Nipped in for a breakfast sandwich. It was advertised as Sausage Cob, I did think it seemed expensive at £3.70, and when I received it I felt ripped off. 1 Sausage in a sub roll, therefore it was actually a hot dog.

Popped in for a breakfast sandwich, they were quite pricey compared with other in the local area, £3.70. I asked for Sausage Cob and what I received was 1 sausage in a sub roll so really it was a hot dog. Disappointing.

We had a sausage roll, cheese and onion toll and tea cakes. Overal average. Cheese and onion roll had way too much cheese in it. Sausage roll was very peppery. Tea cakes were good.

Nice very friendly service ,lamb & mint slice was excellent , pasty was light and crispy and the slice was actually hot unlike some other bakeries

Increadably poorly organisation with silly covid rules of 1 in shop at a time and draconian staff telling you were you can an can't stand. Poor choice of sandwich fillings wouldn't recommend at all the bird brothers will be turning with this level of customer service 🙄

Popped in for first time not so long back after living in the area for a fair few years. The pasties were piping hot whereas the coffee wasnt great and they are quite expensive but I'd say the quality is somewhat better than a bigger bakery chain Greggs. Would return

Lesley Bird is a nasty person who does not care about old people...She does not care about service only money and treats her employees like dirt........Please never shop here....lots of other good bakeries......

Nice food and drinks, however it is seriuosly overcrowded and hard/if not impossible to find a seat/table. Maybe not the proprietor's fault, but something to bear in mind.

The staff are very obliging to help the customer with there needs even when taking phone orders to reserve requests .

Aways call in on a saturday morning to buy beautiful fresh honey roast ham,lovely bread rolls and the best pork pies in Derbyshire.

Great place for you cakes as always Birds do the best cakes ever I had a Elephants foot cream cake and my other half had a caramel cream donut yummmy.

The chicken slice, the flakey pastry was the best I've ever eaten, so light it melted in your mouth, the same with the sausage rolls. The coconut tarts where beautiful, the short crust pastry, the jam and the coconut filling where perfect, But the rhubarb pies where out of this world the best I've ever eaten, wonderful melt in the mouth short crust pastry with a delicious rhubarb filling, perfectly sweeted and cooked, I could see the pieces of rhubarb, (not mushy like a lot of other places do)

The assistant that served us was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and amusing. We bought rhubarb tarts, custard tarts, pork pie and a childhood favourite beef spread

Very clean. Staff welcoming. Chocolate Eclairs wow. One step in. No seating but opposite the park and toilets. Birds is a wonderful bakery chain. Top quality , good prices.

Good value sandwiches and bakery of quality

My wife and myself became big fans of Birds while visiting Derby and Derbyshire during the summer. My absolute favourite were the sausage rolls, which were, quite simply, the best I've ever eaten. We visited the Matlock branch a couple of times, but we also went to the Belper shop.

Make no mistake, Bird's is popular. And the caramel cream doughnuts fabulous as a treat (we made a 'cake' of 18 for my son's 18th birthday) If you are over 65, nostalgic about oldfashioned shopping and chatting in queues but sceptical about 'artisan' bread, you will likely love Bird's bakery (one of a small chain in Derbyshire). It's the kind of place to get to first thing to secure your choice and after lunchtime it becomes a complete lottery as to what they have left, but it likely won't be much. They are just proudly announcing they now take payment by card. So if the limitations are not an issue for you, I wouldn't discourage anyone from going (nice multi-grain sliced loaf, and you can grab a warm savoury to eat in Hall Leys Park across the road) , and the caramel cream doughnuts are a must-try (have just persuaded myself to up my rating a notch writing all that) I'm only in my 50s so it doesn't feel quaintly retro yet not really my kind of vibe - not that I am a devotee of Greggs or someone who thinks sourdough is the only bread worth eating.

I'm a regular at Bird's Bakery in Matlock and they sell a great range of pastries and sandwiches. The Bakery is exceptionally clean and tidy and the staff are a very friendly and efficient. Many thanks.

Good range of food, well presented. Portions feel a little small, and the prices seen a little high.

What can I say - I love this place. Please set up a shop in Wiltshire. I purchased several lovely bags of cobs to take back with me. Little pork pies, pasties and sweet goodies too. Great service

Pleasant staff but a lot of unhealthy food.

Since discovering Birds Bakery a couple of visits ago, it is now a must visit, each time that I am in Matlock. The Bakery, with a take out service, serves quality breads and a range of take away rolls, pastries and cakes. For me the must have is the sausage, stuffing and apple sauce roll...delicious! This combination never seems to be on offer where I am based in the Essex/Herts border region. Perhaps it's more common in this part of the country. According to Birds website they have 57 branches. The only other branch that I had come across was in Duffield but I will be keeping my eyes open when I next in the area.
