Bishop's Dining Room & Wine Bar in Norwich

….hosted by our very dear friends visiting from Spain. Exceptional service by Alessandro and his charming team of waitresses. All the food was very tasty and well presented, pleasing on the eye without being over fussy. My personal highlights were the grilled mackerel with kohlrabi and orange salad, garnished with a squid ink cracker and lemon caviar, then the roast strip loin of beef, perfectly cooked pink all the way through, and a good selection of accompanying vegetables. In spite of the restaurant being very busy, Alessandro has the knack of being “everywhere” and a very good host. Well recommended!

Well, what a treat. Superb food, served expertly in such a small building. Wonderful host and staff. We will return next time we are in Norwich.

Limited choice but all food always excellent quality, delicious and good value for money. Wine cellar excellent choice and affordable also. Dining room can be a little tight on space and noisy if large groups, so perhaps not ideal for anyone with a hearing issue.

What a wonderful experience in Norfolk. Very intimate and personal.. if you’re looking for a cosy and quiet date or experience, I’d definitely recommend coming here. Good choice of desserts and wines, stafff and servers are very well trained and always seem to have your best interests in mind rather than just making money. Makes a wonderful difference when visiting a place.

This has become my favourite Norwich restaurant, not at all pretentious, unlike some others, the service is polite and friendly the ambience is superb and the food, for me the most important part, is amazing, beautifully cooked and presented. I cannot fault this place at all.

Alex is an outstanding host! Great drink recommendations and always entertaining over pre-lunch drinks! Food was excellent. The cheese souffle starter I had was the best I've had and very tasty. Excellent service and the other courses were also great. We have booked again for a pre-Christmas treat at Bishops which is our favourite Norwich resturant.

Bishop’s continues to be our favourite fine dining venue in the city by a ‘Norfolk Mile’. You are guaranteed an exceptional evening by dining at Bishop’s. Alex warmly greets you on arrival along with the very attentive front of house staff. Our meal was, as always, fantastic not only by flavour but also presentation, every course giving the taste buds a fantastic workout. There is an extensive wine list that suits all palates & pockets. The dining room itself is a lovely room, a timeless decor and tables with decent spacing. Our two waitresses were friendly, efficient with excellent timing. We wish Alex all the best for the future, but also hope he doesn’t move on too soon.

Went with 2 friends who hadn’t been before, they loved everything they had. We all chose different dishes and we can recommend them all. One friend said the soufflé she had for dessert was one of the best desserts she’s ever had.

We have visited Bishops many times and it never disappoints in food style, content and quality. The ambience is sublime and it is so quaint and easy to just relax and enjoy the lunch. Basically we just love it...

A splendid a la carte meal. All three courses were a delight. The presentation, portion size and taste of the lemon sole main course was especially good. All washed down with a bottle of tasty Chablis at a reasonable price. Well done Alex and the team.

Fantastic service and amazing food , a little on the cramped side but overall a great visit

Alessandro and the team at Bishops are absolutely fantastic, and it’s a shame it will soon be time for him to leave Norwich for Lake Como. However hopefully the staff he leaves behind will maintain the excellent standards in place. Every dish was incredibly flavourful. The soufflé amazing, as was the beef pie’let with mini poppadom. You can tell that a lot of effort and love has gone into every single dish on the menu. Wines span a variety of palettes and indeed wallets, and all excellently chosen, so there is absolutely something there for everyone. Thoroughly recommend this place!

If you want an out and out food experience there is nowhere else to go in norwich and possibly even norfolk itself. The food is of an exceptional quality expertly prepared and service which I have not had for a good decade or so. And it's the only place in the UK or abroad where they make a negroni as good as I do at home !

A small establishment that appears to put service and quality at the top of it's attributes. The food is sensationally good. Not cheap, so reserve for very special occasions and you won't be disappointed. Lovely waiting staff.

Delicious food from a short but imaginative menu. The wine list is also short but seems very well chosen (we drank the excellent Mersault). The staff were friendly and attentive. The only drawback was the limited floorspace which meant tables were close to one another and the noise level was occasionally challenging.

A warm welcome followed by great cocktails, even better food and wine followed by the perfect dessert- a Lemon Pannacotta. Presented beautifully and not a mouthful too much. Just the right wobble, presentation and say no more.

Superb from start to finish, the real feel of an owner’s touch, relaxed pre dinner drinks in a fabulous ambience. The food was absolutely superb and service to match, attentive but discreet. In a sea of average restaurants this stands out as superb! Highly Recommended.

There was a young party of people in the bar giving the small venue a lively atmosphere. We were seated promptly and the service was excellent. Warm, inviting and NOT intrusive. The Sunday lunch menu was very good. My starter of cured trout with gooseberries, heritage tomatoes and dressing was marvellous. My roast pork was good ( but missing crackling). The dessert of frangipani with apricot sorbet and ginger/ honey cream excellent. We’ve planned to go there for our Christmas lunchtime outing ( pre Christmas). Can’t say any more

Spending an unplanned day in Norwich I fancied an English style restaurant lunch. Bishop’s was the first one I found among the huge range of international options. I used the online booking system but this failed to get through to the restaurant. However, there was no drama and we were seated without any delay. The service from the owner was first class as was the 3-course set lunch menu. Each dish was special and I picked up a few new ideas to try myself at home. A great experience and the set menu was excellent value for money.

We have been going here for several years now and it never fails, food is amazing. It is such a relaxing place to eat, Alex always makes you feel so welcome

Ravioli starter divine.....Sunday roast excellent...staff wonderful..the place is worth every penny and every moment to enjoy

The ricotta ravioli in pea soup was divine..we had beef and lamb and the sauce for both was smooth and lip smacking tasty....the side of cheesy cauliflower was the best we have ever tasted....the wine was refreshing the staff were happy and tentative it's a place to visit and enjoy knowing when you walk away it's with a beaming smile

A splendid Sunday lunch with the addition of hake on the menu as well as the usual roasts. This is a lovely restaurant with a great menu, atmosphere and level of service. Oh yes and it’s great value as well. It was definitely the right place to celebrate our anniversary with our long standing friends.

I've visited a few fine dining restaurants in Norwich and this is one of my favorites. If you love really good food and wine with very professional and personal service you'll love it.

I have eaten here on numerous occasions. Truly the finest food and restaurant in Norwich. Alex and staff are always on point. The pea and ricotta starter was outstanding. Stonebass was excellent. 🌸

I went with my daughter to this restaurant. First impressions were very good. However, I’m sad to say things rapidly deteriorated. We ordered the roast beef meal. As usual it arrived with most of it piled under the meat. This seems to be how it’s presented these days. It’s not how I want my roast meal plated. I like things to be separate. I pointed out to the very nice waitress that the so called roast potatoes were soggy because they were placed under the meat along with other vegetables. The Yorkshire pudding looked wonderful, perched on top of the beef. Looks can be so deceiving. It turned out to be chewy & difficult to cut. I couldn’t eat it. A lady on the next table left her Yorkshire pudding too. The meat was lovely & the gravy. The other vegetables were okay. The worst part of our experience was the enormous noise. It was awful. Another couple were also troubled by it & they moved to the bar area. There are too many tables for such a small restaurant. When we complained the owner was sarcastic & unpleasant. Not a nice man. We took the dessert & what we had left, home & put the potatoes & the Yorkshire pudding into a deep fat fryer. It brought them to life. I would suggest that if the restaurant has a deep fat fryer they should do the same just before serving to ensure that both are crispy. Needless to say, that was our first & last visit.

I another wonderful evening in Bishops. It’s wonderful to be able to sit at the bar and have a drink and a chat with Alessandro before dinner. It’s also lovely that at this time of the year the air conditioning works very well service food and wine, as always superb
