We’ve just spent a fantastic couple of hours with the kids, the manager entertained them with magic tricks and they loved it. Will definitely go back.

Friendly atmosphere,great host highly recommend

Large group booking of ~50 people and Black Hat were great in accommodating us. Clear communication via email beforehand, catered to all the allergies and requirements we had - very good value. Would recommend for large events and also for Sunday lunch, as that's how we discovered it! Thanks for having us!

Last min booking by chance. Great place, clean. Spotless room with tea/Nespresso machine. Great home made evening meal. Top breakfast. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Thank you (Tony, so friendly and welcoming). 👍

Nice pub, fairly quiet for a Friday. Decent choice of beer

We visited the Black Hat on Friday lunchtime 8th November 2024 for a light snack. 2 of us ordered bacon & cheese toasties. To say they were poor is an understatement. The bacon in each comprised 80% fat with a small amount of lean meat, hardly any cheese. Tasteless! The other person in our party ordered a caffeine free drink, but not available.

Thanks to Tony and the team, looked after Leo’s rugby club with great service!

Service, service, service, still the best early doors venue, a tad biased towards weekend sport but still friendly and customer focused, recommended.

Came on a Sunday afternoon with a big group. The manager was fantastic, and got the food out very quickly for all of us. Service from the whole team was great. Food was top quality as well. Highly recommend

Tony was a wonderful host for our society meal! Reserved seats for a party of 20 and they helped us organise to make sure there was enough Sunday Roast for everyone! The food was phenomenal, definitely recommend after a hike in the Ilkley Moors as a cosy, friendly pub with delicious food!

Had a lovely stay overnight the room was immaculate. Fantastic breakfast. The landlord was so acomadating and friendly. Second visit and will be back.

William Appleby served me with upmost respect and if I do say so myself wisdom. The beauty of his beard was triumph only by his determination to deliver exemplary service. My grandson shall be name based purely on his excellence. When I lay on my death bed my only advice will be… attend the black hat in Ilkley, Yorkshire, U.K. for you shall be honoured by his pure sensation.

Lovely food and old English pub, quiet when we went so quieter atmosphere.

We booked the barn space at the Black Hat for my partner's 30th birthday on Sunday afternoon and were absolutely delighted with every aspect of the afternoon. We wanted a low stakes event where friends and family could drop in throughout the afternoon and order whatever they wanted - other places were charging us a large minimum spend which is not what we wanted! The barn space was perfect for between twenty to thirty of us, ordering food and drink was easy on the app, television screens for the football and a bluetooth speaker for own music. Food was great - majority of us had a roast dinner but main menu on too and staff couldn't be more helpful bringing extra roasties and Yorkshire puddings! Manager in particularly incredibly friendly and welcoming - would 100% recommend for anyone wanting a similar event and would do it again. Thank you!

Just been for a late lunch with my family of 4 and had a lovely time. Food was good and nice selection on the menu to suit everyone. T service and atmosphere were brilliant. Wasn’t too posh for taking a toddler which some of the cafes in Ilkley seem to be. Would recommend this pub to friends and family.

We were a group of 7 that took all 7 rooms for a long weekend in Ilkley. The rooms are very well appointed. Excellent cooked breakfast and Tony, the landlord, was brilliant! A Big Thank You !!

unbelievably incredible service. we had a large party including a wheelchair and all the staff were completely accommodating. the food came out very quickly. everything was delicious, absolutely no complaints. one of our servers specifically Amelia was great and lovely however all the staff were amazing! will come again!

Real Ale Prices as Steep as Ilkley Moor.

Brilliant food superb service excellent atmosphere like been on holiday just had our 50 wedding anniversary there big family and friends 10 out of 10.

None helpful staff, no customer service, Menu had offers on it, which didn't apply on weekends, food dry, no presentation. It just wasn't a good experience. Can do better, D+

First visit here, what a fab outdoor area. Would love to come back and stay. Vegan burger lovely!

We stayed overnight at The Black Hat with our miniature Schnauzers. The welcome from Tony was superb. The accommodation was very good too. Highly recommended and a big thank you to Tony for being an amazing host.

From the outside it looked very impressive, and inside it didn't disappoint. The choice of Ales was very good, as was the food. I chose the Southern West Chicken main course, it was plentiful and very tasty. The Staff were friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit. Well Done 👏

Lovely place. Landlord waa very welcoming. The whole place was spotlessly clean. Lovely bathroom with drencher shower. Good breakfast. One minor criticism, hand rail would be helpful by the bath. Great stay, thank you.

Stayed here for a Saturday night as a group of 8 blokes. Landlord was really friendly, couldn’t have done more to make us feel at home. Good atmosphere outside and later on in the bar. Food was good quality and reasonable prices, had Fish & Chips which was lovely and breakfast was a sight to behold!! Large, well cooked and delicious, just what the doctor ordered. Rooms were fantastic too, obviously recently done up. Overall a great stay.

Nice pub tbf. We only stopped for one drink whilst passing through Ilkley. Big spacious pub with a large beer garden. Pay and display parking right behind with an hour's free parking.

Best pub ever . Will and Zak and Emma are the best staff. Definitely reccomend so good.

Called here on a visit to Ilkley at Lunchtime. It was a Saturday and the day of a big Rugby match. The gentleman that I believe was the Landlord was very helpful. He noticed us coming in with our son in a pushchair and helped and then interacted with him. He seemed like a lovely guy. Good food. Nothing amazing but good pub food. Drinks good. Nice atmosphere- what’s not to like? I’d come back if I was in the area.

Cracking beer garden with all mod cons - TV, Booths etc. Great selection of beers and service to boot. Didnt eat but food orders were busy

Stayed for one night before doing the Dales Way. It's very close to the start, great atmosphere in the evening and the breakfast was first rate. Definitely set us up for the day. Finally the Landlord was incredibly helpful and very amusing. Perfect way to start a holiday. Many thanks

Stayed the night after a fashion show at the Kings Hall. Clean room, clean bedding and towels. Friendly and helpful staff. Had our breakfast which didn't disappoint. Also got a good selection of beers.

My daughter and I stayed here Tue 12/3 beautiful room, very clean plenty of space superking bed, staff Emma & Lizzy were fantastic hosts, lost a point as the chef turned up 2 hours late for work on Wed so we had to wait for our breakfast, otherwise wonderful place to stay right in the middle of Ilkley so you could walk everywhere you wanted to go.

Called in after a walk around the river. We were immediately made welcome with friendly and helpful staff, particularly Emma the manager, we didn’t eat but the food arriving around us looked delicious! We will be back soon to try the food.

Very quiet when we called in for lunch. Staff were friendly. Food was alright.

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon wander around Ilkley's pubs. We had already been to a couple of pubs prior and were working upto food... Unfortunately the initial atmosphere when coming in the front door was not encouraging. Seemed like a couple of tables set up for football match day and a few pints in - were a bit rowdy and swearing. To be expected when TV's are on in the bar area i guess. In any case we moved towards the bar and one of the chaps in the loud group spotted us; and proceeded to race to the bar to get their round in first (still half a pint in hand). He obviously knew the staff and got into a full conversation whilst doing so. So we waited.... But as the conversation progressed and no comment, service or acknowledgement from the bar manager - the tirade of language from the table in question continued. We were unlucky, the barrel ran dry and the manager ran off to swap barrels, but again - we were still not acknowledged. We waited... At this point - we chatted amongst ourselves and decided that other pubs in the area maybe more welcoming to our custom.... so we left. As pubs struggle these days - its heart breaking to experience this level of failing in basic customer service.

Called on a quiet Friday lunch time. A good choice of local ales. Myself and partner ordered Pies which were ok. A small portion of mash and a few peas accompanied. Nothing special. The girl behind the bar was excellent. Hardworking, smiley and very pleasant, an asset to the pub.

Nice pub to watch the rugby in. 3 local ales on during our visit. 2 x Ilkley, 1 Saltaire All on form. Town centre pub vibe, but busy and friendly. Lots of room out back of its warm. Plus a barn for over flow where we watched the rugby.

Had to travel up to Ilkley a couple of times for work this week. So stayed here for a couple of nights. What a great place the rooms are spacious and if you want a good nights sleep the beds are so comfortable. The staff are friendly and ready to help. A great selection of beers and my fav Hazy jane on tap. Thankyou to all the staff for the warm welcome. Hope to be back soon.

*Update* Just stayed here again (7/8th February) for a couple of nights as our first visit described below was excellent. This visit just as good as the first one, a few different staff but again, they were all friendly, helpful & professional & we will definitlely stay at The Black Hat again when visiting Ilkley. Booked 2 nights at The Black Hat for a short break (10/11th August) in Ilkley. Great choice! Good things. Staff were excellent especially Jack Rooms very clean & well equipped & presented Beds very comfortable Breakfast very good Great beer garden Very well located for town centre & walking. Bad things. None! Would we book again? Definitely!

Had an amazing Sunday roast at the Black Hat after a Sunday Hike, The place I friendly and the food was great! I had a pork roast and my friends fish and chips!

Emma and Terry looked after us so well, including our wee dog Chris. Came away for a family weekend and they let us use the bar as a space to open belated Christmas presents on Saturday morning. Clean, comfy rooms, great shower. The rooms are above the pub, so don't expect it to be super quiet until after closing time but we had a couple of great nights' sleep, enjoyed the quality breakfasts and will stay again soon! Thanks Emma and Terry for you hospitality!

We just had a fantastic Sunday roast at the Black Hat. It was the best Sunday roast I've had in a long time. Delicious food and very friendly service. Thank you, we will be back!

Came to the black hat for a a family gathering, we spent a few hours here. The food was great, the staff very friendly, very quick service. Would highly recommend.

Visited for a cosy afternoon drink over the Christmas period. Friendly staff and quality atmosphere.

Nice and quiet when we went. Food is ok. Service was good. The manager was talkative. For the price and location (Ilkley considered an affluent area) we were satisfied. We had a quiet table for a family meetup followed by a nice stroll around Ilkley centre. Oh and it's a dog friendly pub, ours got some free treats and water so one happy dog.

Great people. So friendly. Could not be more helpful. Will be a regular now. Stayed this time and bed is very comfortable, modern and shower powerful. Warm and cosy. Nice breakfast. Feels like a well run independent. Be back soon guys.

The room was spacious with a king size bed, and the ensuite was large, well tiled and great shower. We took our dog who received his own Welcome Pack with treats and a ball as well as a dog bed and towel. The manager Tony was so welcoming and the staff were lovely. Had a great breakfast. Had initially been slightly put off that the pub didn't have its own car park but the public car park was literally a stone's throw away at the rear of the pub. Great garden area but weather not good to sit around in. We really can't fault the welcome and hospitality. We're looking forward to returning in better weather.

Only a few pints after a 10 mile walk for 9 of us. All fine, grabbed a table. Fortunately. Few rounds of chips were quick and fine. Will come again.

The mash that came with the kids meals was awful. Really dry, rock hard and stuck together like a solid lump. The kids refused to eat it. Staff are lovely.

Not a great place for Sunday lunch

We stayed for 2 nights for a wedding and the room, food and people are absolutely amazing! If you are in the area and need a place to stay, this is the place. The staff couldn't have been more friendly, the breakfast was amazing (I recommend the eggs on toast) and our room was beautiful with a really comfy bed and really beautiful bathroom. Thank you so much for making our stay in the lovely town of Ilkley even better!

Watched the England women's final in a private room in there beer garden was really good. Did a very nice pint of guinness too. Cheers 🍻

Food is nice but sides are very small, 4 quid for 15 cheesy chips is a bit steep imo.

Visited Ilkley for a friend's Birthday celebration and we were recommended to stay here. The room was stylish, bright and spacious and immaculately clean with a lovely bathroom. It was very comfortable to sleep in. The full English breakfast was the best I've ever had. The eggs were perfectly poached and the ingredients were of the highest quality and cooked with care. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. I'd highly recommend this place. I only wish we could have stayed longer.
