Boars Head in Brentwood

I've visited the Boars Head in Brentwood a number of times and the food and service never fails to impress. I last visited for the Burns Night supper as I did last year, again it was a lovely experience and the food and the atmosphere top notch. Thankyou

Amazing service from Ollie very accommodating and polite with a lot of knowledge of the history of the place a family member is an allergy sufferer and was given an iPad to check off his allergies and it provides a menu type set out with all the foods with allergens selected taken off which really put our minds at ease Food was stunning as always

Took advantage of the AllTrails offer to go for a walk somewhere new and enjoy a free breakfast. We were warmly greated by Rob who wasn't fazed by our somewhat dishevelled appearance and muddy dog! The breakfast was great and they even provided a sausage for the pooch! We'll definitely be back to enjoy more of the Boars Head's great hospitality and food - and explore more walks through Thorndon Country Park.

We were greeted by Rob the assistant manager after a walk using the All Trails app. We took advantage of the app breakfast offer and enjoyed 2 full English. Food was great and Rob was a friendly, welcoming and chatty host. Will definitely revisit as plenty of walks in the local area using the All Trails app. Thanks Rob!

Although booked in advance and was emailed by the pub on the day, not a good experience meeting family for a special lunch we were dumped in the bar area rather than the restaurant, waited 15min for a drink order then another 15min to order food which arrived after we had to ask some half an hour later, very very poor service even had to chase for the bill and waited again just to pay, I expected better and was very disappointed with the service and attention that was non existent, we were treated like an inconvenience, I would appreciate a response from the owner After some time I have had a positive response from the manager who called me to discuss and review my complaint A good talk about staffing changes and new staff settling in to their roles ,I agreed that previously we had a good meal at the pub and will try again next year once all has settled down Thanks to the manager for taking time to contact and discuss personally. So bad that I have to change my perception of the service as I had a long conversation with the manager and resolved the issue together with a personal promise to send me gift vouchers for use at any facility obviously just a lame promise as nothing sent by the manager as expected nothing surprises me really,I would not spend any time or money at this pub

Maybe the chef was off sick but if you like charcoal, this was definitely the place to be! Despite the manager reaching out to discuss this terrible experience, they have ignored two emails to the address they provided. There are plenty of far better options to frequent in the area. A thoroughly disappointing experience all round!

First time visiting for a Birthday Meal for my dad, so glad it was a good place! Food was delicious, atmosphere was lovely, especially as we were right next to the lit fire place. Food was a little bit slow coming out/slow with plates being taken away, but the staff were all very nice and friendly. Would happily visit again!

Food and service was excellent, we were not rushed so had plenty of time for a couple of drinks as well although it was busy at lunchtime

We had a exceptionally lovely evening, with a large group of friends.Haighleigh was most welcoming and very helpfull. She made our evening very joy full. We can not thank her enough for her attentive service, warm personality.

This is our third visit to the Boars Head. The last two times were excellent but sadly this time it failed to deliver. Three of us had the turkey from the Festive menu and one had the beef cheek. The carrots were squidgy and the parsnips and brussels were hard. My husband and I had Christmas pudding which was lukewarm. The waiter willingly warmed it up which did improve the flavour. It was a very small portion which was fine for us. The staff were very attentive and helpful as always. The restaurant was quite chilly although the ambiance was very agreeable.

Excellent pre Christmas catch up with friends. We were well looked after by Hayley & her team, especially Ollie who served us.

A quaint, charming, cosy pub. We went for a Sunday lunch whilst visiting family. The food is great and the waiting staff are lovely. It’s the perfect place for a cosy Sunday roast dinner by the fire.

Food was lovely, service was excellent. Megan and Joe couldn’t be more helpful. Definitely would recommend. Lots of options.

Haven't been to this pub for many years but gave it a try today with close family. Nice atmosphere, no intrusive music, and good friendly service in spite of it being busy. Everyone was pleased with their meals, and portion sizes were generous. I had the Vegetable Grill, which I thought might be a gamble, but my fears were unfounded. A great selection of perfectly seasoned and cooked ingredients. Delicious. Desserts were a decent size as well. Definitely recommended. My only (minor) criticism is that the car park is small, but I doubt anything can be done about that.

Great little pub.we arrived a bit early for our table and the young gentleman behind the bar went to check if it was ready . He was extremely polite. No cold bottles of diet coke but he offered to put some in the fridge for me.a lady took our food order and she was very efficient and friendly. Food was large portions and very tasty. Squid was lovely followed by beef cheeks that were excellent. Definitely recommend

Lovely Sunday lunch in a great country pub

I ordered Sea Bass, which was overcooked and poorly presented. Also, there was only one member of staff on duty. She did the best she could, but service was far too slow. We decided not to bother with desserts.

It was very busy with only Haighleigh on duty. However, she was very friendly and hospitable. We received an excellent service.

This is a lovely, warm, cosy, welcoming, and friendly Country pub/restaurant and outside beer garden in Herongate, Essex. Today, my friends and I booked for lunch. Haighleigh our Waitress welcomed us on our arrival and was very helpful, friendly and attentive at all times. The food was delicious, good price and good selection of food. I have been here often and always recommend to friends and family.

Food was amazing. The salmon wellington was beautifully cooked. Service from Haighleigh was spot on. Head chef Shaun's specials all sounded delicious. Will definitely come back again!

Food was nice and vegan option seemed to have had some thought put into it. Outside seating available. Nice little walk along footpath through the back of the garden.

Our first visit, for a Sunday lunch with friends. We had a fabulous time. It was very busy, but we received such good service from start to finish. Our roast was fabulous with amazing Yorkshire puddings and extra gravy. The slow cooked rib of beef was amazing!

We came here for my daughter's birthday meal. The staff were really friendly and helpful, a nice welcome when we came in. The food was really nice and very generous portions. could only fit in room for a starter and main course, so couldn't sample the desserts, this is a handy excuse to go back again! We brought a birthday cake with us, and the staff brought it out on a board with happy birthday written on it. That was a nice touch and they sang happy birthday to my daughter, much to her embarrassment. 🤣🤣 Looking forward to my next visit.

Feels like a local pub with the added advantage of good food.

Booked meal for lunchtime 20th Sept. It wasn’t the table we booked even though the table we wanted was vacant throughout our meal. The service was very slow. The waitress was miserable and only spoke if she had to. The big problems were the service and bluebottle flies hovering over my food as I was eating. Yuk. The waiting for our food was much too long for each course. We won’t be back.

After eating at this restaurant during the Summer numerous times & leaving a 5 Star review, my family & I (total 5 adults) decided at late notice to visit the pub/restaurant without a reservation. On arrival @ 5:30pm Saturday, we we sat outside & ordered drinks & asked for menus. We were told that we could not eat as they were too busy & had plenty of reservations. Really? It was 5:30pm & there were plenty of tables available outside where we were sitting. As a result, we did not order our drinks & left. Disappointing. No wonder local pubs are struggling…. My family & I decided to go to the Dukes Head Billericay. So glad we did. The meal & service was excellent. Thank you Boars Head for not wanting our business. Constructive criticism: our last visit in the Summer your ice machine was broken. This Saturday, no Madri lager. You are a pub…no? A pub with no ice & no beer…need I say more.

After being in hospital on and off all week we thought it was time to celebrate the good news. Managed to get in the Boars Head and so pleased with my choice. Being vegan it is hard to find places that don't shove salad down your mush or awful bland curries. Boars Head not only have a lovely selection of vegan foods but their usual menu is fantastic too. My parents loved their food, as did my wife & our son. My vegan pie was AMAZING, I cannot fault the place. Staff seem nice & helpful. Seems like a place a lot of locals go but doesn't have the atmosphere of ' local shop for local people ' like so many other pubs have. We can't wait to come back, I look forward to enjoying it again!

FANTASTIC. Lovely old pub. We had lunch and everyone enjoyed their meal. We were lucky to get a table, very popular pub at lunchtime. Booking in advance recommended for Sunday. Very good value. Six meals and 12 drinks for less than £150. Looking forward for an excuse to return.

Went for lunch and had a wonderful meal. The menu together with the specials provided an excellent range of choice and I chose the Lamb Rump shepherds pie followed by the Chocolate Fondant for dessert. Both were very good, hot and very tasty. I would particularly mention the young lady who served us,Emily, she was very efficient making sure we had everything we needed and looked after us very well. A credit to the pub.

I love this place and have had some good times and great food over the years... Unfortunately, I tried it for a Sunday roast. I can only assume that the week day Chef has Sundays off and the old crew that cooked at my school come in to serve cold gloopy gravy over overcooked meat, soggy veg and the worst 'roast' things that purport to be spuds🤣 God it's awful

Been here for a lunch & dinner . Portions and food, I found good . Well behaved Dogs are now allowed inside and all the staff were very dog friendly . Great food and service & Very nice people .

It was our first visit to the Boars Head today. The food was lovely. The service was great. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again. We had a mushroom starter, pork belly and steak pie for mains and a salted caramel sundae for dessert - all were good portions sizes and very tasty.

Been here a few times now, never disappoints us. Took my my today for her birthday made us feel so welcome, the staff even done a little happy birthday board for my mum. The food there is amazing always nice, this is our go to happy place.

I came here for food twice this week with my family. On Sunday I had a roast which was absolute heaven and then today I had the garlic mushrooms which again was ever so tasty. Excellent food & really friendly staff as always - it’s definitely handy to have a 15% off voucher as well! Hehe!

Nice pub, good and lovely in the summer when you're sitting outside.dog friendly but the food we had on a Sunday was horrible. Nothing was fresh and Yorkshire was rock hard.

Beautiful historic pub, set in a picturesque location. Inside, is plenty of seating with a ‘cosy feel’ setting. Outside, again plenty of seating available with nice views of the large pond area. Food is to a high standard & reasonably priced. Highly recommended 👍

Excellent customer service by bar staff - unfortunately we witnessed a rude member of public moaning because he had to wait 6 minutes to order his drink at the bar. People like that let the area down The guy behind the bar handled in very professionally. I would of leant over the bar and nutted him myself lol.

On a sunny Friday afternoon, a pint and a sandwich sat outside in the sun, excellent.

Had a delicious lunch at the weekend. We had a main and a dessert each and we cleared our plates. Will return soon as several items on menu we’d like to try. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and good prices. Loved every moment.

My partner and I visited the Boards Head with friends. It was my first visit, and I was impressed with the setting, the food, and the service, which was really friendly and helpful. The pub has a lovely garden with a large pond or small lake, which has Gold Fish and Koi Carp swimming around nearby. The food was tasty and filling, although the meat that came with the Roast Meat Trio didn't look like it was cut from a fresh joint and was a little fatty. The bakewell tart was delicious! We will definitely visit again.

Lovely meal. Good service nice friendly welcome and staff. Balanced menu. Restuarent was nice and busy which is a good sign. We have visited this pub several times before over many years and always been happy with our meals. Lovely authentic pub.

Absolutely lovely day here at The Boars Head Herongate Essex, have been once before and this second visit experience has had no fault, great service, food ordered and came out perfect , staff always smile, Natasha serving was lovely and she made our day enjoyable. I did say we would come back after last visit , and we are all glad we did .

Food was exceptional once again and the fellow customers were fantastic with their comedy. Tasha and James behind the bar excelled in their promptness and professionalism. I opted for the Chicken on the specials menu and it was superb. Will definitely be having food from their specials again.

Visited the Boars Head on Saturday Evening for a cosy dinner with my husband and was not disappointed. Staff very friendly and welcoming especially the dark haired lady (sadly did not get her name), who I think was the Manager. Very attentive without being pusy. Changed their menu from when we had last visited, plenty of variety and catered for all. Used to visit this pub as a small girl with my parents so have a soft spot for it. Please do not change as this is a lovely gem of a pub. Thank you.

Went with family for a drink Easter Sunday. We had a table beside toilets and left after just one drink as the smell coming from toilets was very bad.

Natasha the friendly amazing manger is a credit to the company she couldn’t of made us feel any more welcome on our special day together and credits to the chef speical board was delightful. Thanks for a great service guys will defo be back for more

Came into the pub today and was very hungry so Natasha sold me the specials menu, it was amazing. The Pulled chicken croquettes and sausage rolls were an amazing side dish with my wine!

We dropped in for an evening meal. We hadn't pre booked a table. The place was very busy for a Wednesday evening, but the two girls waitressing in the restaurant were working hard despite being under pressure, and they were polite and friendly, quickly finding us a table. The food and drink was all REALLY nice BUT I felt I had to bring up to them what proved to be discrepancies in their printed menus. My wife had salmon which the MENU said came with 'Hassleback Potatoes'. Hassleback potatoes are potatoes with ridges sliced into them filled with garlic butter or similar. What she GOT was halves of baby new potatoes which may or may not have been roasted. They were nice, but not what was shown on the menu when ordering. I ordered the pork which was shown as coming with 'spinach bubble & squeak', spring greens, and crispy cracking. When it arrived, it came with no crackling, ordinary cabbage, and just plain mashed potato. I mentioned this to the waitress who said "Would you like some more bubble & squeak?" When I replied that I didn't have ANY yet, she immediately went out to get me some. When it arrived, it was just another portion of the mashed potato with a couple of spinach leaves stirred in! lol We then ordered two ice cream sundaes which were made from a variety of items, INCLUDING (according to the menu) chocolate ice cream which I really fancied. When they arrived, NEITHER had any sign of chocolate ice cream in them. Despite the fact I was feeling like a right old grump by now, I mentioned this lack of chocolate ice cream to the waitress too. She said "Sorry about that. I've let them know in the kitchen." and then brought us a bill for the full price of everything we'd had anyway!! As I said, there was nothing wrong with the food we had, but I am a great believer in that when ordering you should get what is described on the menu - after all, it's upon that description that we decide what we want to eat and pay for. If there's a reason why they can't provide it, that should surely be explained to us up front before bring incomplete meals or substituted items to the table? Anyhow, that's enough grumping by me. Overall, a nice place, and the staff and food is okay, but not getting exactly what we were promised sort of tarnished our visit a little...

Very disappointed the food was very below standard. They have changed the whole menu and the share board that we so enjoyed before was very poor this time -but we hoped the mains would be better . How wrong we were . Items were missing, empty jugs , bread missing the quality of one meal in particular was appaling . The only decent part of the whole dinner was the drinks . Such a shame used to be really nice & ruined a nice celebration as we all left feeling very disappointed and £100 lighter for the so called pleasure .Really wish we had taken photos
