Bottom's Rest in Brighton and Hove

This a five star Sunday roast served by five star people. I eat here regularly and it is consistently full of flavour and made with quality ingredients. Those with a good appetite will not be disappointed with the size, as I have never been able to clear my plate. To top it all off, the atmosphere is always terrific and welcoming.

My friends and I had the absolute best time here last night. The atmosphere was buzzing and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. Such a cute and cosy pub - everything about it was wonderful!! We'll be visiting again soon for sure :)

Popped in for a pint on way to a venue and it's very decent. Harveys on tap which was on point and well under a fiver which is always a bonus in 2024. Staff friendly. Couldn't fault

We were recommended to try this pub by the landlord of a nearby pub “the robin hood’ (also a great pub but no roast) Wow!! It’s kinda quirky and a bit different, which is fine. We hadn’t booked but they kindly fitted us in despite being very busy. We all opted for the roast and we all agreed it was the best roast we had ever had!!!! All fresh and home made! Not pretentious, good quality and price. Great selection of veggies. Couldn’t fault it. Well done 👍

I'm loving this place. Always made to feel welcome here. The beer is good and the gin... well, exceptional. I particularly like the sustainability of Brighton Gin. You can get refills here into your previously purchased Brighton Gin bottle

Great Sunday roast 😋 Good portions, and very tasty. I had the veggie option and loads of gravy! Very good value for money and the cheapest Guinness I've found in Brighton.

Warm cozy pub off the beaten track with great staff!

I've lived 5 mins from this pub for nearly 2 years and only spotted it today. Very nice and friendly - will definitely come again.

Went on a Sunday night, very quiet (which is what we wanted). Bunch of board games available too. Clean.

My daughter and her partner invited us here for Sunday lunch. It was fab! Very welcoming as soon as we walked in - had a delicious gin cocktail to start. We had mix of vegan and meat roasts which were all super! Followed by home-grown rhubarb and apple crumble with custard - cannot fault any of it. Great service from friendly, smiling staff. Will definitely be going back *****

Popped in after a long day at work, lovely crowd and atmosphere. Was on my own but felt welcome amongst a varied and lively crowd. Nice staff and woman behind the bar was very friendly and funny, nice pint of cruzcampo and a drop of whisky went down well and reasonably priced. Good range of snacks, board games available and even gender neutral toilets!! Lots of outdoor seating makes this a great hidden gem. Will be back!

As a Brighton resident I’ve always loved this pub for its welcoming atmosphere and great service but it’s never been better than it is now under the current owners! It’s just the perfect place to lose a few hours and feel all the better for it!

Great bar, slightly off the beaten track , but only down a few side streets - worth stumbling upon. Staff very welcoming and look forward to returning soon

We have been here several times now and always love the Sunday roasts. Such an inviting place. The staff are really welcoming and the service is great. The roast themselves are awesome- great quality, great choice and lots of it. Give it a whirl!

Lovely pub with friendly atmosphere and the VERY best Sunday Roast we have ever experienced (worth booking in advance). Gorgie is an asset and managed to squeeze us in, then we ended up partying with her later at an event we both went to. Thanks Gorgie! The 12 O'Clock'er's!! ;-)

Felt really irritated. Am a semi regular here as live in the neighbourhood. Went in at around 4pm. Loads of empty tables - some with reserved, some not & some with reserved for later. Obviously sat at a table with a non reserved signed and lady - longer shoulder length blond hair was heck of a rude. Said he needed to be eating - “WHAT I thought - is this a pub?” We were only having a quick drink - so would not of been there the whole evening… Anyway… went down the hill to the Southern Belle which is always lovely!

Update: After previous enjoyable visits and giving 5 star ratings ..... we popped in tonight to what seemed a busy pub, door open etc., but we were refused service, as tonight was a "private party quiz". Looks like you have to choose your nights to visit as a local, who just wants a beer. No issue, as plenty of alternatives close by. We know where to go in future. Original post : Back after a while to an old favourite place and the beers were as good as ever. Food is Sunday lunch only at the moment. Staff very friendly and overall a pleasant evening 👍

We had such a great experience. They were able to accommodate my booking for marathon day at quite short notice. More friends than expected turned up and they still managed to seat and feed us all. The veggie roasts were amazing!! And the staff super friendly.

I've been to the Bottom's Rest for a roast twice and on Friday I organised for a group of Queer Women and NB people to have a MeetUp there so they could experience the wonderful Queer friendly space and it was a truly lovely evening. The staff are friendly and we got to sample a yummy lemon and cucumber Brighton Gin. I'll definitely be hosting more events there as well as going with friends. Highly recommend.

Excellent corner pub tucked away in a quiet backstreet. Staff are super friendly, they had two veggie Sunday roast options and both were fantastic.

I’ve eaten Sunday lunch here a few times now, and each time the food has been great. It’s a really friendly place and the staff are lovely. They change the (excellent) veg/vegan main option regularly which I really appreciate - it can get a bit dull in some places when each time you go it’s the same single choice month after month. They ran the Setting Sun until taking on the lease here late ‘23 and they’ve brought the same commitment to excellent service and great food here. Highly recommend!

It's a pub for local people because it's really tucked away behind the old market in Hove down from DHARMA coffee shop on the western Road It's a quirky little pub it's very comfortable with limited beers and cider so if you like to get away from the hustle and bustle of life in Brighton and Hove this is the perfect pub to visit

Oh my gosh they have just launched Sunday Roasts again and it was amazing! Had one of the two very creative Veggie roasts. So many vegetables, delicious desserts, fantastic Bloody Marys! We'll be back!

Second visit this week. Super friendly very inclusive venue. Didn't eat but the Sunday roasts coming out looked AMAZING. Dog friendly which is a massive plus. Hidden behind The Old Market Theatre just off the Hove end of Western Road. Go search it out.

Friendly community feel, chilled away from Western Rd. Great new Irish country food thurs-sat, we checked it out on a thurs, very good, wholesome, wide selection, v good value.

A true hidden gem in Hove, on a street set back from the seafront. Lovely staff team who bring great care and welcome to guests, and they serve cracking Brighton Gin cocktails. Delicious home-cooked food, based on a focused menu (so you know it's all freshly prepared)! Going back again for dinner in a month -with a group of work and uni friends

Went with a couple of friends for a farewell do - hadn't been in years but had heard it's been taken on by Brighton Gin. Pub looks welcoming, they're showcasing local artists, there is nice outdoor seating with shade, and a great wine selection! We shall be back! PS. LOADS of cute dogs!!

We didn't eat. We just had several drinks with friends after an afternoon on the beach . It's a brilliant pub and friendly place in the centre of town, yet isolated from the main road, so everyone is outside and across the street. It's adorable, I loved it.

Sunday lunch with friends. Everyone enjoyed their meal. There is a good selection of well-kept draught beers and a decent house red.

Came for post-work drinks with my team and had a lovely time! Very well kept beer, super-friendly bar staff, Brighton Gin and friendly locals too at this hidden gem of a pub. And music (with a great playlist) at a decent background volume so inducive to chatting and hanging out rather than bellowing over the top. A treat!

We visited the Bottom's Rest after hearing it had been taken by new tenants - The pub is beautiful, the staff and managers are very welcoming and friendly, the prices are very reasonable, and the beer is great! The atmosphere is that of a wonderful small community pub, and it's amazing to see Brighton Gin taking such a presence - I've been a big fan for a long time. An ideal spot for anyone looking for a fun, friendly local for a proper drink (with lots of great alcohol free options too!)

V friendly and helpful team but both times I've been recently they've been v low on certain drinks so the choice was really limited and inside needs something to warm things up and make it feel more inviting especially when it's not busy. It wouldn't take much. A few candles, plants or flowers and some background music are all small additions that would make a huge difference.

Always such a friendly atmosphere, great staff, very dog friendly, and superb Sri Lankan food. Oh, and still a selection of board games, should you wish to indulge!

It's a lovely hidden pub in Hove with nice food and drinks.

I like this place. The manager is very friendly and welcoming and the ale is always kept well. But I changed pubs recently. They stopped putting candles out. Suddenly the place had the look and feel of a dentists waiting room. However, the candles are back and so am I. It looks really cosy and inviting once more.

Fantastic Sri Lankan food here. Came on Saturday afternoon. First time having the menu and was not disappointed. Two of us had the black pork curry and the other had the chicken curry. Really comforting food on a horrible grey wet day. Had a selection of tasty starters also. Would definitely recommend and will be back to try some more.

Wonderfully tasty Sri Lankan food. We had a kottu, thali and parata with sambol and all were delicious. The star being the aubergine curry.. Omg! So so good. Plenty of vegan options (I was with a vegan and a Sri Lankan so it was a real test) friendly bar staff and locals made it a great experience.

Basic pub in terms of decor, but bar staff friendly and food was good. Reasonably priced. Toilets are down stairs so not brilliant if you have mobility issues.

Great tucked away local to rest one’s bottom. Also now serve beautiful Sri Lankan cuisine. Very spicy so be careful to check before you order. Update 16th Aug 2022: Tried the special today and had high expectations considering the £16.95 price tag, although food was good don’t feel it was priced appropriately

Excellent inviting staff, nothing was too much trouble for them. Atmosphere and drinks excellent. Did not eat so can not comment on food but menu looks amazing. Would highly recommend a visit.

The food is so surprising good. Not like the normal pub burger stuff but a great selections of delicious food. The place is indeed somewhere to ‘rest’ - never too loud. Easy to chat with friends and would not struggle to hear each other.
