Food was OK, as was the service initially; however when I tried to pay the bill with cash for 2 people, 2 courses with a bottle of wine, I was asked to pay at the bar downstairs! I do not expect to treated like that at a "gastro pub"! If I wanted to pay at the bar I would have gone to a Wetherspoons and saved myself a considerable amount of money. As we returned to our vehicle we saw the waitress that asked me to pay at the bar leaving to I assume, go home so I can only imagine she wanted to get away promptly without walking back with my change up 2 flights of stairs. Not good service.

The food here was absolutely delicious, cooked lovely. The service was also top notch.

Excellent ambience. I went there with my work friends. Although, funnily, they were out of two items I asked for (seabass and Halloumi). But whatever I ordered was excellent (roast chicken). Therefore, I advise you to check with them on what food you want to order before getting there.

The only negative was the poached pear dessert, it was very soggy, very cold, and was quite unpleasant. Tasted like they had just been defrosted. Everything else was very very tasty though, and the eight of us had a great time.

We had our first visit here (21/12/24) with family travelling from different locations. Very welcoming on a very wet day. Food was excellent, catered allergies, and made changes where necessary. There is only one thing I feel you need to address, and that is the car park. The holes are shocking and could easily cause damage to vehicles.

Very good prompt service - especially given that there were 150+ guests for lunch, when we visited. Parking will always be a challenge with these numbers and in this location. (The car park surface does leave something to be desired) Caitlyn was the standout member of staff.

So close yet so far. The location and design of the restaurant is lovely and the overall menu is very good, but there were many things that we wanted to feedback to the staff. Firstly, from the moment we entered the staff were very pushy about getting us to order despite use saying that we were waiting for others but they kepts saying "the kitchen is busy so best order soon". So much for a relaxed setting. For starter i had the jacquin buchette goats cheese, which was lovely and came with poached pears, but the bread was rock solid. I couldn't bite into it and when I tried to cut it with a knife it shattered into a million pieces all over the table. So i enjoyed my cheese and pears with breadcrumbs (as did everyone else on the table as it had gone everywhere). My parntner had the soup which they said was lovely. For main I had the battered cod which was limp and aneimic. Oil clearly not hot enough as I had just about cooked cod wrapped in batter with the consistency of wet napkins, which had been dumped on my, at best, warm chips, but neither had been drained properly and so we're soggy and in a pool of oil on the plate. My partner however had the "celeriac steak", and this ultimately is the reason I took to writing this review. £17 for 2 chunks of celeriac (definitely not steaks) that were basically raw, to the point we struggled to even cut them, and yet somehow dry, with some shavings of carrot and a spoonful of cold shallots, and a few mushrooms (4 halved button mushrooms doesnt seem very "exotic"). No gravy, no sides, no veg, nothing. The "house pesto" was nowhere to be seen. It was actually smaller than my starter, and we had to ask for some gravy just to make it palatable. Very disappointing dish overall, felt like the chef just plonked some of the leftovers on a plate and called it a "vegetarian dish". Think the chef doesn't care about veggie stuff. Why have banana blossom, a classic veggie/vegan alternative, and then stick eggs in it? Surely it makes sense to use Eggless batter so all veggies and vegans can eat it? Lastly was desert. "Callebaut creme brulee" you would expect to be chocolate flavoured as callebaut make some lovely milk and dark chocolates, but out come 4 bog standard creme brulees. Not a hint of chocolate. We thought maybe they were white chocolate, but if they were, none of the 8 of us could tell. So either the chef hoped we wouldnt notice, or theyre using so little white chocolate its unnoticeable (more to the point why call it a chocolate brulee you're not going to make it with cacao, seems redundant). My sticky toffee and rum pudding had zero rum flavour, but the pudding itself had a good texture. Overall disappointed by the poor quality of all our courses, and by a confusing menu with things that seem out of place and unnecessary (unless you know of them, saying valrhona and callebaut chocolate adds nothing other than confusion for many people) in a classic pub style venue.

Great Christmas meal. This was our office event. Third works event in total, in fact - Slepe Hall and Old Bridge having been the other two venues. The food here was the best of all three (and priced in the middle of all three too). Staff were very welcoming and friendly with good service throughout the evening. Thank you! Highly recommend. And the mine pie tart was the best pudding I’ve had in years!!!

Food was good quality however quite scant, the prices were exorbitant. Setting was good, atmosphere was good, music was awful and too loud (above my head)

Excellent pub with excellent service. Lauren and Callum took great care of our party of 27 and the food was outstanding. Definitely recommend for a quite meal or a group party.

We had Sunday dinner here. Food was spot on, I had the trio and each meat was beautifully cooked. There was a slight error with the order, but they resolved that in a jiffy without fuss (mistakes happen but its how they're resolved is what happens). Will be looking to go back again when next down that way.

I went out for Sunday lunch and the food was very nice. The bartender Max was attentive and made great cocktails.

The food was Exceptional!! The staff are vey friendly and efficient!! And the Atmosphere was relaxed and warm ! Would recommend to anyone a lovely experience !

Surprisingly really poor on this occasion. Been coming here for years and food has always been excellent. Burger was not properly cooked through and the fries looked shrivelled and dry liked they had been taken from another plate or left too long, but basically inedible. Would have commented on this but as no one came to ask how food was so decided to just let it go and put it down to experience.

Had a really nice meal. Unfortunately the car park is in a terrible state, full of huge potholes and with no lighting I stepped in one and ended up with wet feet.

Went to celebrate our Mum's 70th Birthday, the food and atmosphere was awesome, we had pre booked the table as it was for 10 people and it was really nicely presented when we got to the room. We were allowed to order from both the Main Menu and the Festive menu, both were exceptional, the Turkey dinner was fantastic and the gravy was another level, this is definitely a great festive dinner that lots of restaurants get wrong, not the Brampton they use quality products and it shows. Thank you for a lovely Birthday Dinner.

First time customer and came for a Sunday lunch as we had a voucher to use. Such a beautiful building in a lovely location. The parking was difficult as it was so busy so be prepared for that. We both had roast beef with all the trimmings and it was delicious! Highly recommend! Our servers were lovely and we had a lovely experience. We were put in an area with a large party so it was noisy but apart from that a great place to come for food!

Quick and attentive service , both our roast meals had good features ; Eg the chicken was tasty and cooked just right whilst the sirloin slid down beautifully . Pork Crackling likewise was done just right. Whilst I accept that the Pork Belly by its very nature is going to be fatter than most meat ,the portion served to my wife was practically all fat with a tiny speck of lean, rendering it inedible. As for the veg, the roast potatoes were mostly cooked just right but one of mine was practically raw and indedible. The roast carrots and parsnips were just right ,but the " sauteed greens " were largely crude offcuts with dry stumps and not very appetizing although the nicely cooked leeks that were mixed in with them helped somewhat .

Unfortunately you had run out of cauliflower cheese for the roast sharing platter and the meal was barely warm. The gravy was the same. No one came to check how everything was us so we couldn’t tell anyone. Then the chocolate sauce for the poached pear actually burnt my mouth! Didn’t expect that!! A real shame as the food tasted nice and atmosphere was good but a roast dinner needs to be hot! Told the waitress when she cleared our plates who wasn’t that bothered.a trio of meat roast would be better value for money rather than the sharing platter as not enough meat to share.

First the setting was lovely. However, the building needs attention, the windows are dirty, needs some painting and decorating, and parts inside look tired and unloved, example, ladies and gents restrooms. The waiting staff were all lovely. However, there was over an hour delay between starter and main course, of which the waiting staff kept us informed., considering we were the first in the room, everybody else had been served before we were even told there was a delay for us, and some people had even had their food and paid and leaving before we got our main courses, which was unacceptable. The main courses were disappointing, one of the diners, never got his salad with his vegan lasagne, the lasagne was luke warm, and had obviously been standing around for some time. One of the roast dinners, had 'two' pea, and a teaspoon full of leak, 1 small roast potato, and the majority of veg was carrot and roast parsnip, one of the other roast dinners, had no potato at all. The puddings were disappointing, the puff pastry apple pie, looked like a flat pizza base with sliced apple on top., the base was hard and almost inedible. For the price points for these meals which is higher than most, for what we got, frankly we would have done better at Wetherspoons was the comment of 3 of the diners. Whilst the delay was acknowledged and a discount off the bill was given, and that we had travelled an hour an half to get to you, we were very very disappointed.

I went out for lunch yesterday with a couple of friends and I would like to say that our experiences were absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was warm welcoming, the service was great, the food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and welcoming towards us. The pub is located on a perfect spot by the river too! We will definitely be coming back there again! Thank you to the staff their amazing hospitality and jolly good service!

We happened to be in the area and visited after many years since the last. It's nicely decorated and a good place for a special night out. Worth making for journey. The food was good, didn't have to wait too long, service was ok but we did have to ask for napkins a few times as they either didn't provide any or enough. Prices were fair particularly for the quality. Free WiFi, free parking

Food was average but service was very slow , 3hrs for 2 course meal. Spending in excess of £400 for 12 people. Only 7 desserts came out, others had finished dessert when other 4 came out. Had to ask for milk and sugar twice before it came after about 10 minutes. Very disappointed

Nice dishes, professional service, great atmosphere

We have been coming here for 6 years and the place holds dear memories for us. The last time we visited before today was in July and nothing like what we experienced today. We ordered our usual, a dirty burger, and waited quite a long time. What we recieved was not the definition of a dirty burger. This burger and chips costs £22.45 each. A dirty burger is usually loaded up with lots of sauce, an onion nest, pulled beef. After checking the menu, they had changed the whole burger, but the price increased. It seems its something we will now have to accept and just cherish the memories we had of visiting here in the past. It is not the same and seems to be declining each time we visit. The one positive was the cappuccinos were nice.

Food tasted even better than it looked. Would recommend. Very dog friendly bar areas tables. Staff very considerate. Bit of a wait to order at the bar though.

What a wonderful place for coeliacs! They truly understand what it means to be gluten-free and were very thorough when taking my order. The atmosphere is wonderful, too, with a roaring fire, low beams and quirky decor. Come here for a lovely treat and you won't be disappointed.

Worst risotto i ever had. Dried rice from the bottom of a pan with the ingredients on top. I have been before, and food is usually good, but this time, awful experience.

Great find. I am not the easiest customer as am Pescatarian, but Lauren was great and gave me various options to amend the fish dishes with meat added in the menu. The food was excellent, along with the service and Marius obviously knows his stuff in the kitchen!
