The chef can definitely cook. Unfortunately the restaurant experience does not align with the lovely quality of the food.If the restaurant manager spent less time trying to up-sell and more on managing his team things might improve. Astonishment that we really did want tap water before choosing our drinks and amazement that we really didn't, definitely didn't, want a dessert isn't amusing bonhomie, it's sales talk. And it's really annoying. With a couple of exceptions, the waiting staff are inept and poorly trained. Sitting within earshot of the computerised order point (which astonishingly is in full view of the restaurant) and listening to a gaggle of staff faffing about what to do and arguing is greatly irritating and undermines the desirable mystique of the restaurant experience. Some of the staff don't have the language skills to be client-facing. "The duck, please" is quite unambiguous and I find it hard to see how that could be thought to be, "The liver, please". One waiter was plain indifferent and she audibly sighed at a request. We had to ask for things which trained staff would spot: a spoon for soup, for example, or the sparkling water which had been asked for light years ago. It is just incredibly clunky and at these prices you don't expect that.As for the restaurant setting... Imagine a posh version of the food court at South Mimms on the M25.The restaurant is open to the rest of the ground floor, so you're surrounded by the noise of the unfortunate pianist, a performer in another room, the excited crowds and music at an adjacent event, people rushing hither and thither to the toilets, the bedrooms, outside for a smoke, people trundling suitcases around, whatever ambient music is playing... It's cacophonous and chaotic. I thought they were going to try to sort that out, but that haven't. I've eaten here before and both previous experiences were disappointing verging on awful, so I won't be giving them the benefit of the doubt again.Honestly, the chef deserves better. There are much nicer eating experiences in Knutsford, so take a food guide with you and seek them out.

Food exceptional, service as well, we had the best rump of Lamb every tasted, followed by sticky toffee pudding and chocolate orange cheesecake from the deserts menu.

Visited just before Christmas, we were really looking forward to going but were left bitterly disappointed. Table booked for 6:30 but wasn’t ready at 6:30. We were asked to have a drink in the bar, ordered our drinks which included a house white wine with a dash of lemonade. Later on our bill I found out we were charged nearly £10 for this. A house white wine was £7.25(ish) and the ‘dash’ of lemonade cost £2.35? We ordered our starters then waited 45 minutes (had been sat at the table for an hour at this point) before I found our waitress to politely ask where they were, and without an apology she went off to the kitchen then magically appeared with them. I had the scotch egg to start, which was excellent. Onwards and upwards I thought. We then had to wait a further 30 minutes for our mains which unfortunately were both disappointing. I had the duck, which was served with piping hot vegetables, yet the duck was room temp at best. My partner ordered the Steak which had a huge piece of gristle running through the middle, not what I’d expect from a butchers steak? We had planned on getting a dessert but we’re just frustrated at this stage so asked for the bill and left. Unfortunately it seems we were in the 1 percentile based on all these other fantastic reviews, but unfortunately based on our experience we wouldn’t return. Shame really as it’s a gorgeous little country pub.

The pla e looks and feels lovely and the food tadted really good. The problem was service. After waiting for 20 mins to place just a drink order, it wasn't great. We then waited over half an hour after our mains were cleared to try and order dessert. We eventually gave up, took a long time to track someone down just to pay. There were empty tables so not exactly busy. The gluten free options were really limited, I was told it was always this way on Sunday, goodness knows why. The one started I could have had run out so we didn't have starters. All in all, it was a big let down which is a shame because when we did get food, it was lovely. Just a shame it took nearly over 90 mins for one course.
