Unfortunately this cafe was a bit disappointing. Has such potential especially for where it is located. We got sausage and bacon baps, both where ready within a few minutes which indicates not fresh. Unfortunately you could taste that. Drinks id say where overpriced so we didn't bother with them. Great location though and friendly enough staff, just there food was very disappointing

Lovely food (paninis, sausage roll, bacon bap, cake, ice cream) in a great location. We visited on a sunny August weekend so not surprisingly it was busy so lunch food took a while (they did warn us) but didn't mind waiting given the location looking over the canal. And when we came back for an ice cream after our walk so mid-afternoon there was no queue and no delay. Yes the tables weren't as clean as they could have been but not unexpected outside in a countryside location that there's wildlife that messes them up sometimes.

I had a cream tea with a can of fizz instead of the cup of tea that would normally come. The “little extra” it would cost turned out to be payment in full for both the cream tea (less the cup of tea) and the can. It came as a nasty plate of commercial mini pots of jam and cream with tiny scones. This, when served, was hurriedly banged down on the table without so much as a gesture, Ghastly experience in a filthy little cafe. Never again.

Fantastic little cafe - great choices of sandwiches (toasted an option), quality selection of cold and hot drinks and cakes, and great (and quick) service. Stunning views down the flight of locks - which are a sight to behold - from many tables. And surprisingly good value for money… we had a large sausage and bacon bap, a bacon/brie/chilli jam toasted sandwich and a can of Cawston’s apple juice (quality!) and a postcard of the flight of locks, all for £19.20. (Others had what looked like a quality scone with jam and clotted cream.) Not often you find such a gem. Well done the team room team, and thank you.

Could do with a good clean. The place is tired, toilets are grubby and all the outside benches are covered in bird poop! Which doesn’t mix well with food from a hygiene point of view. A customer asked if the table could be cleaned. The waitress appeared with a cloth and cleaned one spot on the table and said they isn’t a lot we can do! Rubbish, here are a few suggestions! Have a bucket, a wall paper scrapper, disinfectant spray and paper towel ready and clear down every table after every sitting. Put parasols up even in the shaded area so they catch the poop and not the table and chairs. No one wants to sit in poop. Food. Very bland, bacon was tasteless and obviously cheap poor quality! It’s a shame because it is in a lovely setting but more attention to detail is needed.

Called for a drink and snack at 3:40pm today. Three staff standing about behind hatch, told no hot food as closing soon (sign said open until 4:30!). Asked for 2 lattes, told could only have tea as coffee machine had been knocked off and cleaned!!! Obviously waiting to finish their shift, walked on to Spar got 2 lattes, 2 sandwiches, sweet treats and bottles water, servied by a lovely smiling lady.

This is the 1st time i have been to this cafe, and probably the last. I ordered a bacon bap 5 minures after they opened and was told they didn't have any baps but did have brown or white bread. I asked for white bread, paid and went and sat down at a bench outside. Within 2 minutes the sandwich arrived and the bread was lovely. Unfortunatley the bacon must have been precooked and was sitting a while and was hard, dry, and burnt on the edges. Most of the bacon went in the bin. It doesnt take long to cook bacon and i would rather wait 10 minutes for a decent bacon sandwich instead of the stuff i was given.

Visited at the end of a 10k walk feeling incredibly thirsty, stood at the serving hatch as signed, and was ignored by the four members of staff in the kitchen, who knew we were stood waiting, as they came to serve the 3 people in front of us with ice creams. After several minutes we left and got our cold drinks from the spar shop instead. Very disappointed as I live very close by and used them regularly.

Good place to stop after a long walk but the outside tables were really really dirty and covered in all sorts of bird poo. It wouldn't hurt to give them a clean a couple of times a day. It looked like they had not been cleaned for a very long time. Also noticed that the bowls with dog water in were very dirty. The water didnt look a nice colour. Such a shame as these things are easy to do and make a difference. There is no competition in the area so I am sure they are always busy and a welcome rest stop but it would be really nice if they could keep the outside area cleaner.

On a recent visit to Caen Hill Cafe , on a glorious sunny afternoon , the queue was long and they were wonderfully busy , the down side was that the queue consisted of people trying to pay parking , unaware it was a voluntary donation , and people requesting ice creams , also a few ordering food .... an awful lot for the hard working team behind the counter !! .. I witnessed a few people give up and walk on ..... many grumpy faces .... but the cafe team soldiered on ..... it’s a thoroughly beautiful place to enjoy , if it was a little more organised it would be a pleasure for all concerned ..... good food , great service , a great team .... your employers should be very proud of you ;)

With roads closed or completely impassable due to the severe rain from Storm Bert, we finally gave up trying to get home late on Sunday evening and parked up in the car park of the Bolingbroke. Too worried to go any further, we nervously knocked on the door, despite the pub being officially closed, and to our relief was invited in and offered a room for the night. Jo and Rob looked after us all evening, the room was clean and perfect for the emergency overnight stay and even made us breakfast before we set off in the morning. I can thank you both enough for your hospitality and kindness in what was, quite literally, an incredibly stressful occasion. Would recommend to anyone and even planning a return trip, under better conditions, to come back and say thank you once again. Wonderful. Ray and Marion

The website states it’s open until 4pm, it doesn’t say the kitchen closed at 2:30pm. We were happy to have cold quiches but the waitress made us feel so unwelcome even though we spent £46. She then cleaned the table implying we should leave, so we did and we won’t be coming back!

We booked a table for the opening party, the pub opened earlier in the week with new staff and owners.

We visited with family from France with dog who were looking forward to visiting for coffee and a light snack for lunch,we arrived on a dry bright Sunday lunch, although relatively busy, there were several tables empty, albeit full of dirty leftovers, when we pointed this out to the lovely girl behind d counter she promptly cleared table and wiped, from this point expectations fell away quickly, there was absolutely nothing to eat except carrot cake or muffins fresh or pre packed biscuits and flapjack ! We mentioned this to the counter staff who just said sorry were short staffed and low on food, there were 8 members of staff behind the counter ! Oh well, we ordered coffee which hit the spot first round fine, second round incorrect, then members of our party wished to visit the loo before leaving, a queue of several people waiting constantly to use 1 toilet that was disgustingly dirty from top to bottom ! All in all a poor experience of what some 18 months ago was a lovely place to visit, maybe it was just an Off day, but to have that many staff not doing a lot or cared a lot, not sure I would be in a hurry to revisit
