Café Society in Aberdeen City

Great little breakfast/lunch/brunch spot. Great coffee and varied, interesting menu. Freshly prepared and delicious. Lovely, smiley staff!

Food was ok, wouldn’t rush back but it was a nice place to meet my friends. Something very strange happened when I asked for tap water. I was told “we have no glasses” - the cafe was barely half full, maybe 5 tables in. I said “ok no probs I can just have a water in whatever you have, like a coffee cup” we were told “no”. I was offered to pay for a bottle of water from the fridge (!!!!????) Isn’t it a legal requirement to give out tap water? Bear in mind, we had already paid £15 each for coffee and breakfast. Sorry, that was so ridiculous and weird. Food was 2.5/5, service 1.5/5. Food menu is very small and on old dirty menu. Crockery is colourful and nice. Coffee is ok but similar to Costa so very weak and basic. Kind of weird vibes from the employees, wouldn’t return.

So disappointed with this cafe. I used to go here for takeaway coffee and hot chocolates, but today 14/11/2024 around 11:58 I went to this cafe and decided to sit in and ordered a big breakfast and latte. There was 4 tables with customs at this time. And there were three ladies behind the bar, so my breakfast arrived and it looked good to look at and that's all it was. Everything was so cold and smelled pre cooked at least few hours ago, it wasn't even warm, bacon really chewy and hard, Hash browns were soaked in so much oil, really cheap blackpudding or just very old stock. I didn't even ate the breakfast, just had my latte and 2 toast, so I was there for 30 minutes, but the three girls behind the bar were so busy having their personal chat (loud enough for us to hear) that they didnt even came out to any tables to ask how was the food. I have attached the photo of my very cold and not finished breakfast I left, so please if the management does care in anyway you should concentrate and make fee changes to these things. Because location wise it's in such a good place it's a shame that food and Service was so horrible.

Solía ir aquí a tomar café para llevar y chocolates calientes, pero hoy 14 / 11 / 2024 alrededor de las 11 : 58 Fui a este café y decidí sentarme y pedir un gran desayuno y café con leche. Había 4 mesas con aduanas en este momento. Y había tres damas detrás de la barra, así que mi desayuno llegó y se veía bien y eso es todo. Todo estaba tan frío y olía a precocinado hace al menos unas horas, ni siquiera estaba caliente, el tocino realmente masticable y duro, los hachís morenos estaban empapados en tanto aceite, pudín negro realmente barato o simplemente caldo muy viejo. Ni siquiera comí el desayuno, solo tomé mi café con leche y 2 tostadas, así que estuve allí durante 30 minutos, pero las tres chicas detrás de la barra estaban tan ocupadas teniendo su charla personal (lo suficientemente fuerte como para que lo escuchemos) que ni siquiera salieron a ninguna mesa a preguntar cómo estaba la comida. He adjuntado la foto de mi desayuno frío y no terminado que dejé, así que por favor si la dirección se preocupa de todos modos debe concentrarse y hacer cambios de honorarios a estas cosas. Porque en cuanto a ubicación está en un lugar tan bueno que es una pena que la comida y el servicio era tan horrible.

The food here is fantastic, and the atmosphere is so warm and inviting. Perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. Highly recommend!

Very good breakfast place. Granola, scrambled eggs are delicious. Scrambled eggs are from real eggs not powder. Coffee also fantastic. I recommend!

Los cafés son perfectos. Sabor, aspecto y tamaño, todo fantástico. Para los sándwiches, puedes elegir si quieres un baguette, panini o wrap. Tenía una baguette neoyorquina. Pollo, tocino, queso, tomate y salsa bbq. Cuando vi esto, supuse que era un sándwich caliente. No decía en el menú si lo era. Cuando pedimos no nos preguntaron si lo queríamos caliente o frío. Para mi sorpresa, fue servido completamente frío. El sabor del tocino frío y el pollo frío no era exactamente una delicia culinaria, cuando vas a almorzar 😅 Creo que habría sido un sándwich fantástico si estuviera caliente y el queso se derritiera. Pregunté si estaba destinado a hacer frío y me dijeron “Las baguettes se sirven frías, las panini calientes”. Así que si te apetece una baguette, toma nota, lo que pidas - estará frío. Los precios son justos. Media de la ciudad para cafés. £ 4 para Caramelo Tarde. £ 7 por sándwich de baguette frío.

Great spot for brunch/ lunch in Aberdeen. A short walk from the centre, but worth the walk to get a lovely feed or coffee. The staff are super and very friendly.

Great little coffee and breakfast/lunch place! Friendly people and better coffee then any starbucks or cafe nero! Ordered the flat white, scrambled eggs and yoghurt,granola fruits.

Another great cafe in a city that was a coffee backwater not so long ago , nice atmosphere , friendly staff and a fab cup of flat white to go with the New Yorker sandwich was the perfect way to start the day.

Because 0 stars wasn’t an option… Not normally one for leaving reviews but this was something else. Waited 1hr 10 mins for a breakfast burrito with the excuse of it being “busy” whilst only 4 other small tables were occupied in the whole place. Staff getting ratty with one another and did not care that we’d been waiting a while when asked. Grey eggs and anaemic sausages, could have had a better breakfast at home. Save yourself some time and money and pick somewhere other than here to eat. Never again!

I had an enjoyable coffee here. A really nice change from the hipster coffee shops with tiny cups, and lukewarm strong coffee.

This is clearly one of the best coffee places in central Aberdeen. I only had a mocha so far, but it was clear that a cappuccino would have been equally great tasting. Very warm atmosphere as well, and a good mix of chairs, sofas, and armchairs.

Seems like a nice place. I only nipped in to pick up a too Good To Go bag (Which was amazing) and the whole vibe in there seemed very relaxed.

Staff are very friendly here. We visit frequently, and the quality of their food, coffee and tea is excellent. The coffee arrives at a drinkable temperature, which is a lovely (rare!) touch.

Great location, great coffee and muffins

Zero sense of urgency here. Waste the majority of your lunch break while the staff dither about and most things seem to be a two person job. So horrendously slow, it does not take 15 minutes to even make a start on just one item, especially when there are no other people waiting and only a handful of people at tables. The food is mediocre at best, honestly not worth the price or the wait time. Cross contamination between food is awful too, so avoid if you have allergies because nothing is kept separate and you'll end up with a surprise piece of food in your sandwich. Only worth a visit if you have all the time in the world, or don't care about quality.

Yummy hot chocolate and pancakes took a bit to get order

came here for breakfast. Pancakes were nice and fluffy but both hot chocolate and latte came lukewarm. It wasn’t worth the price, considering how expensive it was.

Went to Café Society for lunch with a friend. Staff were pleasant and helpful and prepared my sandwich and side salad they way I like it! This is the good thing about Café Society; the sandwiches are not pre-made and you can avoid any ingredients you don't like. My friend had the carrot and sweet potato soup and a tray bake which she enjoyed. Staff quickly sorted a communication error where I had requested Redbush tea thinking it was Rooibos. Normally people use Redbush to mean Rooibos but in Café Society it turned out to be what I would call "Red Berries tea" However it was quickly replaced by Rooibos tea. It is a very good place to pop in for a casual lunch.

Still our favorite spot for breakfast. The bacon and pancakes are superb.

A nice cafe. There are good dishes and cakes here from breakfast to dinner. Coffee offerings are very nice.

The pistachio cake's icing sugar cream was too sweet for me. Broccoli & Cauliflower soup was too salty. The service was good.

I haven't made it around to every Cafe in the area yet, but I've been to quite a few. So far, Cafe Society has my vote for best in every category.

Stopped for breakfast and it was amazing. Definitely be visiting again. I had the yoghurt,fruit & granola & my friend had the bagel with avocado n hummus+ salad

I recently ate here with a couple of friends and overheard the most abhorrent behaviour towards staff members. This behaviour came not from a customer, but from the owner Varinder. The condescending manner to which Vainder spoke to members of staff was not pleasent to hear nor created an environment where any hospitality employee should have to work. Additionally, the cake was carrot cake from Costco and cost £4.50!!! Sort yourself out Varinder! DISGRACEFUL!!!

As somebody who is extremely hesitant to try new places I am so glad I gave cafe society a chance! Once you're in the atmosphere is lovely, the staff are friendly and helpful and it's very comfortable! The favourites part of the sandwich menu is very well curated and they're all delicious and the soup and coffee is lovely too.

The food was great but customer service needs work. I was looking at the chalk board with the selections only to be barked at by one of your staff. Until I sat down - then a menu was handed to me. If you do not want customers looking at the chalk board prior to ordering they must be sat down to see a menu… we really should be informed when walking through the door instead of being scolded of not being mind readers. Or be the punch bag of someone having a bad day… the girl who processed my order was lovely though.

Have been here a few times now and the experience has been the same. The food and drink are very nice, it's just very haphazard when your food and drink will arrive. My wife's coffee arrived while I sat with my full breakfast and no drink, then her food arrived 10 minutes later at the same time as my coffee. On our second visit we received our coffees several minutes apart despite being the only people in the cafe, and when we arrived, again despite there being no one in the cafe, most of the tables had crumbs from previous customers all over them. Nice cafe, some organisation required!

I just had the French bacon roll melt and oh my days I was not disappointed. It was absolutely out of this world!! the Brie was perfectly warm and melty and the caramelised onion chutney added a lovely depth to the bacon! The coffee was also delicious. I can’t wait to come back,😑 for boujie on a budget in Aberdeen? It’s got to be cafe society - I was far to impressed to even think about taking a photo🤭 Massive thanks to the lovely staff x

Lots of interesting menu choices for sandwiches. Service is usually fast. Unfortunately, my wife wanted a baked potato but they didn't have any this time.

Tried it once for breakfast. Disappointed. Scrambled eggs not made fresh. Not the best. Asked for bacon on the side, but it was forgotten. Latte was lukewarm. Also the table hadn’t been wiped and had a number of marsh from old coffee cups. I won’t be back, I am afraid.

A friendly welcome, great breakfast. Hubby had the big breakfast and I had egg on toast. I had one of his sausages, his black pudding and tomato. He still had a huge breakfast with two slices of very thick multi grain toast. So good we went back the following day. We didn’t try them ( as we were too full) but the cakes and tray bakes looked amazing

We go here regularly for Sunday breakfast and food/coffee is always excellent. Highly recommend the scrambled egg on toast always cooked to perfection. Only improvement would be to clear the food plates from the tables earlier, last two visits we never had our plates cleared, thanks

Came here with my fiancée for a brunch as was really in the mood for toast, avocado and scrambled egg, upon passing here we thought ideal this looks like just the place. Lovely décor and cosy vibe inside. Went up to order and my fiancé had the large breakfast which I think was around £10, and then I ordered the above which wasn’t actually on the menu but was available in different varaiatons so I thought would be fine. The woman said yes no problem but she must have put everything through separately as the bill came to £32 for those two meals, a can of coke and an iced coffee. I though wow, better be worth it as that is super expensive- I wish I queried the price actually. Woman originally brought over a hot coffee, which I sent back and she had to make me a new drink. However, I must say the breakfast was super good. The scrambled egg was one of the best I have ever had, and the toast was lovely bread, lack of avocado though especially for the price I paid. Fiancee thoroughly enjoyed his breakfast also and was given plenty of sausages. Did really enjoy It here however next time maybe I will choose something on the set menu rathen than getting charged triple for something specific.

Breakfast servings are generous. Freshly cooked and nicely presented. Not sure about salad with scrambled eggs though?? Prices are also good.

Not the best experience I have had in Aberdeen, not the worst though. Tried it twice to see if it was just luck of the draw and not it seems. Staff seemed more interested in having a chat and not so much in service. Several food options, but baffling to be honest as to why French toast served with maple syrup would be served with a side salad with a balsamic reduction. Just seems a clash of ideas. The cookie I had first visit was soft and chewy and what you want from a cookie. Coffee was lacklustre and not worth the visit, there is a Cafe Nero across the street so if you are just after average coffee better off going there.

Nice place, they stop serving breakfast quite early so not the best place for breakfast after a night out.

I had a nice catch up with a friend at Cafe Society, during a busy lunchtime period. The food was lovely and service was good. It was a tidy cafe. I had to sit next to my friend instead of opposite him, as the seats are quite far apart and it’s hard to hear when there is a lot of people - but that’s what happens when it’s busy! It wouldn’t be affordable to come here every lunch - as a tea and a burrito came to just shy of £10. Although hopefully I can be back again soon.

A friend and I went for breakfast this morning and it was brilliant. We went for yogurt granola maple syrup and a bowl of fresh fruit. It was a generous helping and tasted perfect. Thanks for a great experience.

Lovely friendly staff, good range of options on menu and super tasty food. Seems to be popular with tourists and locals alike. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. I had a fried breakfast with toast. Tasty food and plenty of it. I couldn't finish my meal - and that is a first for me! My daughter had the veggie fry which was also tasty. Slight vibration throughout the restaurant - may have been to do with a dehumidifier but am sure that it will be sorted out. Definitely give it a go.

I previously gave this place 5 stars. I used to visit here at least once a week. Any visitors I had to aberdeen I used to take here, however I went in for breakfast one day and got in at 11:02 am. It was armed forces day and a nightmare to park otherwise I would've been there about 20 minutes earlier. I asked for a breakfast roll with bacon sausage and egg. I was told that it was after 11am and therefore I would not be served an egg. I, like the other people in my group were a bit surprised at the answer. I was a regular in this cafe and to me this was a cataclysmic failure in customer service. I was 2 minutes past the cut off. I explained that I thought this was incredibly poor customer service. I would have thought having a business is about being accommodating (within reason) and this was an incredibly poor show by the staff. I informed them at the time that this poor treatment would result in the loss of my custom to which they did not seem bothered. Very disappointed in them and as a result I have not and will not be back.

Have been here before and was happy with the experience; however was very disappointed this time. Went to the counter and was given a menu and directed to table and told to come up to till area of counter area to order. Menu did not list sandwich fillings options, and was not given the options! Sandwich was supposed to be accompanied by salad(s) - none served. All in all very disappointed by service/food/cost so will not be going back.

French toast and good cappuccino!

Amazing place for a coffee and some sweets. Staff is extremely helpful and always kind to assist with requests. Mocha here is one of the best in town, if not the best... Cakes and tarts are out of this world! Just give it a shot...

Nice coffee with plant-based milk choices and there are a few vegan options for cakes. Enjoyed the oat milk Cappuccino and Biscoff cake. Quite friendly staff too.

Lovely cafe with very friendly staff. Ordered a latte and a chai tea both were excellent. Was served by the girl with blue hair who was very welcoming. Overall excellent service will definitely be returning.

Couple of reasons why I wouldn’t be back here - we went in and were directed to a table and given menus etc and at no point where we told we were supposed to order at the counter so we were sitting for a long time waiting to be served at our table with no one thinking to check on us, despite the place being filled with staff. - my breakfast burrito was so spicy I couldn’t eat it, my boyfriend had to have two breakfasts, mine and his, he even struggled to eat it despite him enjoying spicy food. At no point on the menu does it say it’s spicy. - we ordered a traybake to take away and were given the wrong one however by the point we realised we were already back home. Shocking service and quality of food wasn’t great either. Don’t recommend.

This place is nice, I really liked the New York Wrap. it was reasonably priced and the seats are comfortable.

We visited this lovely cafe on an early Sunday morning. Staff were brilliant. We had iced coffee, fry up, a breakfast burrito and pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Honestly the food was delicious. I can't wait to visit Aberdeen and come back and try more delicious food.

Service always good, food good but a bit pricey

My first time in this cafe, but my husband had been here before with my daughter and said it was nice so thought we would go for breakfast. The big breakfast was to much for myself so I asked if I could order individual items instead, the girl said yes but she would have to charge me for a full big breakfast. I ended having a bacon and egg roll instead. The roll it’s self was ok but the egg white was not cooked properly. My husband had the big breakfast but his breakfast didn’t arrive until I had finished eating my roll. His breakfast was not hot and there was a missing item ( mushrooms). My husband went and complained he got refunded for his breakfast. The air in the place was Smokey from the cooking I assume. Happy to say that I won’t be going back and would not recommend this place. Very unhappy customer ☹️

Popped in today for a coffee and a toasted sandwich. Coffees came quickly but the toastie seemed to take a while, I actually thought they had forgotten. My main issue with this place is there is a lack of atmosphere and the staff are pleasant enough but seem more interested in each other rather than the people coming in. I'm not sure I will go back tbh. I like to support local businesses and love quirky places to grab a coffee, I'm not sure this place is hitting the mark..

Myself and several friends booked this cafe today from 9.30 till 12. We didnt all arrive at once, the manager kept eyeing us at the large put together tables ( 4 square tables in a row) when there was only a few of us, it was quite uncomfortable, we all arrived eventually but those of us there first had immediately ordered their drinks, food etc. The food was absolutely lovely and reasonably priced. The staff were great, really helpful and friendly. My problem is the owner/ manager, he kept trying to separate our tables and take away the end table to use while we were still eating, drinking, keep in mind we had reserved and there were 8 of us. At around 10 to 12 we began getting ready to leave, a few moved on to a smaller table and stayed to chat on. It was a lovely morning marred by feeling like we were unwelcome to use this amount of space even though we had reserved the entire 8 seats, we certainly spent a ton of money between us all !!. I cannot speak for the rest of the group but I will certainly not return. A shame considering it was such a lovely setting with good food. Owners/managers take heed, leave your customers that have reserved alone or lose them. EDIT further to the owners reply and refusal to acknowledge all aspects of my review, he will certainly never have to concern himself with any more "unfairness" as our group will not be returning.

Lovely food and turmeric chai late

We went there and had to go out! There was a lot of smoke and our clothes were impregnated with the smell of food. A disaster! They should put a smoke extractor urgently

I have been a regular here for some time now. But unfortunately greed has overtaken the quality and food being served. Rarely do paninis etc be toasted long enough. And for a simple chicken mayo, bacon and cheese wrap you are set back 6 pounds. That is greed. I have been a loyal customer for years but now will be visiting Richmond Street Deli, West End Chocolates or even Deja Vu instead going forward. Value for money far better and loyalty rewarded.

It's a cute little place, with nice staff and nice food. Great for brunch. The coffee was pretty nice, too.

Good drinks at prices average for Aberdeen city centre. Friendly staff but not the greatest of surroundings. Not bad but probably wouldn’t return or specifically recommend.

First time at the cafe, ordered a tea and a large mocha. The drinks were pretty good and came to around £6, staff working were friendly, however don’t think I would return. The reason for this is that the place just seemed a bit run down and I saw the chef walking with individual piece of food uncovered on a small plate through the whole cafe and over to the girls behind the counter on several occasions. Where was the food being prepped and why is it being carried around, seemed a bit odd. They have upcycled wood for tables which is a great idea but they are in need of attention! Look in the pictures you can see Under the tables are filthy and puts you off.

First time visiting with my Daughter-in-law had coronation chicken sandwich with white home baked bread and pot of tea. The sandwich was large very well filled could hardly bite into it. Went down a treat. Staff lovely too.

Waited 35 mins for 3 takeaway panini’s. Had no correspondence with staff until, after 20 mins, I had to ask one of the 6 members of staff where our order was. It was clear they had forgotten or missed our order, as people who came in after us were getting served before us. Bless one of the members of staff who could clearly see our frustration and tried to quickly rectify the mistake. They were moderately busy, but to have no one check up on our order after that long just isn’t acceptable. The food was look warm & felt thrown together. Had heard good things of this cafe & I love supporting local, but sadly for me, I won’t be back.

Nice place to be in.... Food service is..... Unique. Me and two friends ordered the big breakfast. One friend ordered Extra bacon (x3 rashers - the serving) and it didn't arrive. My other mate asked for tomatoes and beans to be taken off but randomly they also took off his sausages and toast and his breakfast only had 2 rashers of bacon on. 🤷🏻‍♂️ When this was complained about the staff did nothing about it. As it happened they were too busy fending off complaints by other customers. By the time it all arrived, my sausage friend has eaten his plate of food and still didn't get his toast and my mate who ordered the extra bacon (x3 rashers) only got 2! I was the only person who got everything listed on the menu but the bacon was drastically undercooked. It actually looked like bacon which one side has dried out in the fridge and was just put on my plate and the sausages were cold. I would avoid this place if you actually want to eat what you pay for. T

Enjoyed my chat with my friend, never been in here before but enjoyed it and felt that the service was great and the place itself was comfortable 👌 Only thing was, they could have opened the door, to let some air in as the cooking smells was very strong but the place was enjoyable all the same. 😀

Following a recent positive feature on this establishment in our local newspaper, a friend and I opted to go here for Saturday breakfast - which turned out to be an early lunch after we waited over an hour for our food to arrive once ordered. No explanation… no apology…. no compensation of refills of our hot drinks which had, understandably, become cold after waiting so long. A diner at the next table alerted us to the fact he had been waiting with his noticeably hungry and distraught young child for their food for over an hour too and was told it was due to “the iPad not working”. Couldn’t the orders have been written on paper and taken through to the kitchen by hand if that was the problem? That used to work fine back in the day! If we hadn’t already paid when ordering our food and, on this occasion, we had the time to wait I’m sure we would have gone elsewhere, as other frustrated customers were already doing. By the time our order arrived we had lost a little of our appetite. Most of the food was good, although it seemed the chef had forgotten to heat our huge bowls of beans, and plentiful but ridiculous it had taken so long when the place wasn’t very busy. Wonder why?! There was clearly a delicious selection of cakes on offer so this could be a good place for coffee and cakes served front of house but unless you have plenty of time, perhaps steer away from the meals from the kitchen.

Went in for breakfast after having a positive experience the day before. Pancakes were stale around the edges, rolls we’re starting to go hard, and the ‘American Melt’ is just a bacon roll with cheese - we were expecting something a little more interesting. A thing to note, if you order food as a large group it doesn’t all come out at the same time, 2 people at our table were finished before the last 2 got their meal. Staff were not very welcoming and we didn’t even get a ‘thank you’ when leaving a tip in the jar, which they definitely saw. Overall very disappointing after having such a lovely breakfast the day before. Don’t think I’ll be back as clearly there is no consistency.

Seen good reviews so thought I would try it. Really disappointed there was a hair in my egg and the hash browns wasn't cooked properly. They didn't say anything when I told them.

Sunday morning walk in with only one table seated at the time we arrived. Menu and ordering are simple enough, coffee is really nice in the place. Waited a considerable amount of time before asking for our food. You'd think one of the 5 people behind the counter would notice we didn't have our order. Once served the toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon were a little underwhelming but the clincher was definitely the side salad which was neither asked for nor mentioned on the menu. I would suggest a little spinach if you want garnish on the plate but it really wasn't required. Like I say, coffee is lovely, but get it to take away!
