Caffe Atina in Cheshire West and Chester

It's our go to eatery in Chester. Great choice of both meat eater and vegetarian.

Atina used to be my favourite cafe in Chester, up until a year or 2 ago. The food and service went downhill so I stopped coming and found a much better cafe a few doors down. But the other cafe has now closed, so last week I thought id give Atina another try, only to regret it within the first 10 minutes of being there. I'm not sure if all staff members are told to be as miserable as possible? But both young girls were so moody they made the place feel so uninviting. It's surely not that hard to smile and be polite... I even witnessed one staff member speak to an older lady like she was something on the bottom of her shoe, all because she asked her where could she sit. The food was a 4 out of 10. I do have a picture of my hard boiled egg on my very sad looking breakfast but there is no option to post a photo! Safe to say I will never be visiting Atina again. And from reading your recent reviews I am not the only one to have this opinion. Edited... Reply to Chloe from Atina.. Firstly it would be great if you could get my name correct considering it is written at the top of this review. And secondly this is a true reflection of your service because my latest visit was last week and reading the most recent reviews other people have rated you low. So instead of pointlessly replying to reviews, why not take the time to train your staff better. Thanks

Great and unusual food selection, well cooked and well served at a reasonable price.

What can I say as soon We walked through the door bellowed at by a young girl to wait there !! She was rude and very un inviting .. 10 am and told only court room spare with several vacant tables ! Thank good we thought as her attitude was she shocking !!

We went here for our Christmas do and it was great. The staff were incredibly friendly and the food was terrific. Really good atmosphere!

Such a quirky stop for lunch and the food was amazing. We had the lasagne and the Bhaji burger. Thoroughly enjoyed everything. We tried to return the next day for dinner but they were closed. Would definitely return if we were in Chester again.

It an OK restaurant. Nothing like extraordinary. Eggs were ok, Orange juice was below average.

Fabulous Bistro - great tasty delicious food, super wine list at reasonable prices, wonderful staff - highly recommended. Close to town centre and not far to the train station.

This place although tucked in between 2 pubs is a hidden gem! The food and drinks are amazing, service is great and is very well priced. 10/10 would recommend to try.

The fish finger sandwich had tiny slivers of fish, it was dry and grey in colour not white. The vegetarian lasagne also did not taste fresh, and it was the first vegetarian lasagne ive had that had no vegetables, just tinned tomatoes and cheese sauce. Coffee was nice. But i dont think i would hurry back.

Family brunch. Excellent food. Something for everyone. Friendly, efficient staff. We liked it so much we returned the next day!

What a lovely little place this is. Veggie breakfast for me and kitchen breakfast for the hubby. Highly recommended and we will be back!

Roasted tomato, red pepper and lentil soup was delicious, though the portion size was on the small side.

Excellent food, atmosphere, service, decor, everything! We came with three little children who also enjoyed their food. Beef lasagna is their signature dish (a secret recipe!) which some of us had and loved, pasta dishes and salads also wonderful. A g at the centre of Chester. Highly recommended!

The service here was lovely, but the food and drink was a bit of a let down. The poached eggs had been added to the toast wet which meant the toast was then soggy. Almond hot chocolate was an eye watering £5 and didn't taste of almond apart from a small scattering of almonds on top of alot of froth. Clearly it's a well respected place from the reviews, it just didn't hit the mark for us.

We visited for breakfast last Saturday; I had poached eggs with avocado and added some bacon and my partner had the haggis eggs benedict. Both of our eggs were quite hard / not runny at all which almost defeats the purpose of ordering poached eggs and spoils the dish a little bit. It would seem that they don’t cook the eggs to order and the menu does state that the eggs should be soft poached. My avocado also tasted quite peculiar, as though it had come from one of those pre-made tubs. I don’t feel that the quality of the food reflects the price they are charging anymore (£10.25 for avocado on toast). Service is friendly enough and coffees were fine but wouldn’t return again.

It was the best lasagna I've ever eaten. The lady working is very polite and cute. I definitely recommend this restaurant

We thoroughly enjoyed our family lunch today……. celebrating our daughter’s birthday! All staff were very pleasant and helpful, along with the excellent food and service too. Thank you Atina, we will certainly recommend!

Lovely settings and some good selection of old cooking books. Food is lovely. Portion size can be bigger though

Beef shin lasagna was delicious. Chai tow kway however was too salty, gave feedback to the staff at the end of the meal however she didn't get back to us about it. Lovely atmosphere, beautifully decorated. Ample seating.

Great Place in Chester City center for a Breakfast/Brunch. I had a Vegan custard flavored milkshake and a Vegan Breakfast. Reasonably priced and portions are right. It was funny that the Vegan Breakfast didn't come with hash browns. They also used a veggie sausage which I haven't had in a long time, with fake meat sausages everywhere now, I felt nostalgic as veggie sausages were the only option back in the early 2010s.

What a find, two tasty vegan meals and cake. Excellent service, we were very well looked after.

Two brilliant evening visits in the last couple of months. First was as a large group and second just my husband and I. Both times the service was friendly and attentive, menu varied without being too large and food really well executed. Can’t wait to go back again!

Amazing coffee wonderful service worth every penny

Came for dinner on Saturday evening after reading the great reviews and on the whole it didn’t disappoint The food was really nice . Staff very attentive but the restaurant was so bloody cold. I really don’t was to eat dinner with my coat on ( and I wasn’t the only one) my feet were like blocks of ice! Please put the heating on! Would definitely go back when the weather warms up!

Popped in today to get a bacon sandwich takeaway. I got two slices of overly toasted bread and inside was some over cooked bacon. I asked for a little mayonnaise but they didn't bother. It was so dry. like putting 5 cream crackers in your mouth dry. It's hard to mess up a bacon sandwich but they managed that perfectly

Lovely quaint restaurant, The meatball was great for me but rest of the food was absolutely disgusting.Microwave food and extremely dry starters.

Visited family in Chester and stayed at Fifteens over the road. Had a beautiful breakfast and lovely Americano coffee at Atina Kitchen which a work colleague had recommended. Staff were really friendly and the service was great. We sat outside in The Courtyward as it was jam packed inside but the heaters and blankets were available to ensure we were not cold. Would definitely recommend and will hopefully visit again in the future.

Another lovely meal ..... the chicken wings were even better than I remembered, and the meatballs were lush. My friends loved the turkey burger. GUTTED Lasagne was off the menu, though! Baileys hot chocolate was perfect and just the job. Great service as always, great price and I will be back again very soon.

Lovely little restaurant with friendly staff, great service and good food. We went for dinner as part of a little pre Christmas trip to Chester. The small plates were delightful. We had the focaccia, meatball and fried lasagna. Every item was lovely… and I’ve definitely been inspired to deep fry my lasagna in future! We had the onglet, bhaji burger and broccoli tagliatelle for mains. The onglet was delightful, but I didn’t regret my choice (the tagliatelle). The mango ketchup that came with the bhaji burger was too sweet for us, but I’m sure it would have suit those who have a sweeter palate. If we had extra stomach space, I would have loved to try the lasagna (because the fried version was so nice!) Nothing wrong with the dessert per se, but they were the weakest course… which was a little odd. The chocolate crème brûlée was fine but nothing to write home about … while the sticky toffee pudding was not the right texture for me. The coffees were delightful though!! Overall, this was a good find! I’d love to go back during the day and try their brunch - the Malaysian in me is intrigued by the chai tow kway & paratha (the description is that for chai tow kway so not sure where the paratha comes in, but I wanna try it!!)

Lovely. Best cooked breakfast enjoyed here on 4-12-23 in many a year. Recommended by a friend who lives in Chester for excellent vegetarian options. Did not disappoint, spoilt for choice on a celebratory weekend 🙂 Enjoyed wild mushroom. Highly recommend

I went in here for a coffee and to sit for a while as my back was playing up. I asked if they minded if I just sat for a while, they were very friendly and were ok with it. I ended up having 2 coffees, a water and lasagna for lunch, it was great.

Newly recommended by a friend, lovely breakfast and great choice of Gluten free options. Friendly staff and full of locals which is always a great sign. Loved the cosy and relaxed atmosphere and the choice of recipe books you could ponder whilst you wait for your food. A great spot for solo eating , friendly catch ups and family meets.

I'm all for supporting local small businesses and we were so pleased to have found Atina. Staff were lovely and friendly and were very understanding when I decided to chuck my coffee all over the place! I'm a nightmare and clumsy. The lady even gave me extra milk in case the coffee I'd ordered was too strong. Wouldn't hesitate to return if we visit Chester again. Great place 👌

The food was fine, but I could have done without the big sigh when I decided not to give a tip. Above average service results in a tip, at least that was my understanding of it.

The food was fabulous as always and the staff friendly and helpful. I have visited cafe Atina a multitude of times and will keep on doing so. Today I treated myself to smoke trout with poached eggs and hollandaise and it was really tasty and definitely hit the spot. Sadly the draft beer wasn’t available so I had a chilled bottle of Mahou instead.

We come here for breakfast all the time as we have not found anywhere that does one better! We popped in the other day but this time for lunch and again they did not disappoint..the wings were just so good and my partners giant milkshake was mind blowing.

I have dined here around 8 times. Each time the food has been great. Authentic Italian. The staff have always been friendly and attentive. That is why my partner and l always go back. The restaurant is a one off, not the same as all the chain eateries. Keep it up Atina. We love it. ❤️

This is one of my breakfast /brunch go to's and has been for years. Consistently good quality food. Relaxed vibe. And a cute little courtyard out the back. Staff always lovely and friendly.

Decided to write this review as we (my daughter and I) always choose to go to a Tina when in Chester. After reading a recent negative review about this small family run business, I would like to show our support to this establishment. We have never had a bad experience and I have lost count of the times we have been a customer. I believe a trip to Chester is not complete without a visit to Atina 🙂

We had lovely meal. My husband said it was the best lasagna he had tasted. We sat in the lovely courtyard. The menu was very good & a very realistic price. The staff were great.

Visited twice during our weekend in Chester as our hotel was round the corner. Our first visit was for a drink which we enjoyed in their secret garden which is at the rear and so is nice and quiet as away from the bustling street. There’s a good choice of wine by the glass. We then returned for breakfast. The staff were lovely on both occasions, we felt welcomed and looked after. The choice for breakfast is great with lots of variety. We really enjoyed our breakfasts and cleared our plates. The coffee was good but the loose leaf breakfast tea was a little weak for my taste. Would definitely recommend.

Service is very poor and the staff is not very friendly. Very inattentive and barely pays attention to the customers. I had to stand up twice the first time asking for water at the bar while the 2 members of the staff where chatting and the second time I had to get up and go to the bar again and ask for to pay the bill, one of the waitresses didn’t even say thank when I paid. I normally leave good tips but on this occasion I didn’t as the service was poor and the experience wasn’t please like the previous times I have been eaten in that restaurant. I definitely won’t be back again.

Fantastic little gem of a cafe! Great food, friendly staff, boutique style decor, highly recommend. We called in for breakfast and had a table booked but there was plenty of room so booking wasn't probably required. We'll come again if we're in Chester for breakfast.
