Canteen and Cocktails in Stockton-on-Tees

A very disappointing visit. We returned our starters because no cheese or jalapeños had been added. The kitchen hadn’t even started preparing our main meals by this point - even though we were the only diners there. We cancelled our order and left. Sad experience as we’d been very much looking forward to the evening.

Came here to celebrate an engagement with friends, 2 people had got there 10 mins before myself and had already ordered cocktails which they were still waiting for 20 minutes later. No one came to take myself and another friends drink order until they brought the other cocktails. Cocktails themselves tasted of pure alcohol and watered down juice, it was like a drink with mixed as opposed to an actual cocktail. Service was very slow to the point where I had to go up and ask the staff to take our food order after being there for over 40 minutes. We were sat upstairs and it was overbearingly hot and we were very uncomfortable. Food was okay, we got the steak fajitas but there was only around 5-6 small strips of steak the majority of the food was onion and peppers. Overall a disappointing experience, will not be back anytime soon and wouldn’t recommend.

Have been here a few times albeit several years ago. I was excited to bring my date here as I always enjoyed it! Sadly it appears there’s been a change of management and the food now is exceptionally poor, I.e. their ‘chilli’ is bolognese sauce from a tin, chips no longer home cooked, meat over done etc. then menu has also been massively reduced and a lot of my old favourites no longer on. We had to ask for clean glasses twice as the ones our drinks were made in were beyond filthy - think lipstick marks and residue from dishwasher dirty. It was unfair to have one waitress doing drinks and table service for the entire downstairs. Poor girl looked young and was struggling.

The standard here has dropped dramatically since the last time I visited. We ordered starters to share, which were halloumi and the brisket arancini. The rice in the arancini was undercooked and hard but otherwise tasty starters. We both ordered the buttermilk chicken burger and what an atrocity. For £15 a burger we were presented with a flat burger with two chicken goujons, one slice of lettuce and one slice of tomato. The burger used to be a beautifully battered fillet, but I have no idea what that cheap, flat, nothing chicken they presented this time was. And just one dollop of sauce. I complained but rather than have anything discounted from the bill, we were given two extra pieces of rubbish chicken goujons. Hardly what I wanted when I was complaining about the standards. The server was nice enough and I could tell this was a usual complaint from her reaction. I no longer live in Stockton and we made the effort to visit Canteen and Cocktails for a treat having been to the hospital earlier in the day. It was such a massive disappointment.

Haven’t been for canteen and cocktails for years but in the past have always found the place great! Really nice cocktails and friendly staff. We came here to celebrate a friends birthday over the weekend, but unfortunately it wasn’t how I remembered . Service wasn’t the best at all . Disappointed to find the blender was broke so a lot of the cocktails were unavailable. We had drinks forgotten about. I went for the lasagne which was burnt on the bottom and rock hard on the top probably from sitting under a lamp too long! The best part for me was the chips! Won’t be returning anytime soon sadly .

Poor service from staff. The table was not ready for our booking.The cocktails were very badly made. We were made to sit on a high table to eat our food. Did not give us any time to decide what drinks we wanted as we were rushed. Drinks took a while to come and when they were ready they were left at the bar whilst the staff were chatting for longer than 5 minutes. Last 2022, canteen and cocktails was amazing all round! However with the new staff they need to be properly trained.

Food was cold, bland Skins cold, and tasted like freezer burn Brisket aranchi, £8 for four ball and zero brisket in it! Loaded fries, cold with rubber chicken. Even drunk the food was inedible.

I came with my family staff really polite and well presented food was quick at coming out and was delightful bar staff very welcoming and polite also went out there way to get our drinks out as we are fussy with drinks all in all 10 out of 10 and will be returning in future

wow wow wow! Used to come here all the time and never had a great experience; food wasn’t great for prince and staff were no where to be seen. Drinks were appalling for price. However, i was very skeptical when my friend booked her for her birthday meal due to past experiences. Upon entry, we were greeted by staff and seated at our table immediately. Young girl serving us was phenomenal, recommending drinks and food to our liking. It was a big group (8 of us) and cockails came quickly and tasted great! The music was upbeat and lively, food was fantastic and management team were brilliant- circling the resturant checking on us and staff. Clear change of management and chefs, and all i can say is why didn’t it happen sooner. What an improvement! Well done canteen and cocktails :)

Popped in on a Saturday night with my husband for a cocktail. Stood at the bar far too long with no acknowledgment waiting to be served. When finally served by the most miserable bar man I have ever seen our cocktails were underwhelming to say the least. £7.50 for a tiny espresso martini which didn’t even contain fresh espresso,my husband makes better ones! This has always been our go to place for cocktails but it has gone right down and it’s no wonder it was so quiet…won’t be returning.

This was me and my husbands favourite sunday lunch spot and our favourite cocktails as well. However ever since there’s been changes in management it’s totally changed. Went for some celebratory drinks and stood there at the bar that long unacknowledged (there was only 1 other table in, and there were multiple staff members stood at the bar just talking and ignoring me) that I had literally turned round and had mouthed “should we just go? to my husband, but finally at that point I was then acknowledged. I don’t care at all if someone is busy that’s totally fine (which they weren’t anyway), but at least say be there in a minute or something to me. Menus were sticky. The menus have changed and seem more aimed at like teenagers or something now like student crowd. The pages for the gins had been removed (so I didn’t know what was on offer when I wanted a gin) and replaced with pages and pages of different flavoured shots?? We ordered our favourite cocktail we always have and it was totally unmixed just tasted like soda water so we just finished the 1 drink each we had ordered and left. We then went for sunday lunch as we often do here, we were hoping what had happened last time we were in was just a one off. Cocktail was badly made again. A couple that came in after us actually got their food brought to their table before anyone had actually taken our food order no joke. Staff the same just unprofessional, clearly unbothered. Food was served differently and cooked differently but the menu didn’t state this in any way. So we knew what we were expecting as we go most weeks but what came was totally changed. Veg not as good, mash not as good, gravy not as good, the chicken was just a chicken breast on my plate. Other veg that hard it was not edible so we left it and were not asked why. Staff were too busy to grab as they were loudly talking about how under staffed they were (there were 4 other customers in besides us). A customer asked if he could use the wifi and the girl shouted over “no cos it’s crap”. As we were getting our coats on (leaving just 2 people in as the other 2 had just left as well) a couple walked in and asked for a table for 2 and the staff said “well it depends how fast you can eat because we’re really short staffed”. You don’t pay those kinds of prices to get rubbish attitude rubbish cocktails and a rubbish dinner 👎🏼👎🏼

First time visit and would come back. The service was excellent and food and drinks came in good time. Food hot and tasty. The cheese sauce was a little sharp for me which overpowered the burger but was still tasty and all eaten. Will be back to try other things on the menu

This is the second time I have been to Canteen & Cocktails and the second time I have been disappointed. I only gave 2 stars as a credit to the over worked staff who I felt sorry for. Very long wait and cocktail below standard which I believe was probably due to the bar staff being under immense pressure.

Had a really nice meal here on Jubilee Bank Holiday. The place was quieter than we expected for a Friday night but it had a cool cosy feel to it, decor very interning and benches were comfy and spacious. I had the brisket and it was done really well and the portion size was decent. Cocktails were also beautifully made and reasonably priced, would definitely recommend.

If I could give it a zero I would I have never ever in my life been somewhere for food and not being able to eat my main it was awful. We had nachos for starter they were nice and the drink was too, but I order a burrito as soon as it came to the table I thought I can’t eat that, the smell of it knocked me sick, it was pink and it looked like something someone had sicked up or come out of a can, my friend had a burger and it was slimy and she couldn’t eat hers either. It was her birthday she was so disappointed, I had never been before but she had and she said it’s normally nice I can honestly say it’s the worst meal I’ve ever come across. We did tell the staff as I hate complaining as I’m in the hospitality industry myself, they were really nice the two ladies serving and I hate saying it to them as it’s not their fault, they took the nachos off the bill.But I don’t think I will ever come back or recommend it

Absolutely dreadful service by inexperienced staff and supervision. Customer service was extremely poor and very matter of fact. As a vegetarian I was served a meat and bacon burger with absolutely no apology and the phrase " we can do you a fresh one". Despite the waitress going over to the manager to discuss he made no attempt to come over and apologise and rectify the situation. After challenging their lack of compassion and apology the manager eventually said he would void the bill. That really wasn't the point I was making! We didn't stay to eat the replacement meal! Never again!

I ordered a brisket burrito and it was 90% barbecue sauce. The meat was congealed and cold, we had to wait for cutlery as they don't keep anything upstairs, when the table was eventually cleared I asked for my meal to be removed from the bill, which they did. My friend's chicken burger was burned on one side and the table was sticky and grubby. The DJ came on at 8pm as our food arrived and we couldn't hear ourselves speak. All in all a horrendous experience, apart from the 2 lovely women who served us. They tried their best, but when you're working with something that's broken it's a losing battle. The Sunday dinner has been delicious in the past, but based on last night I won't be going back. So disappointed.

Food very nice, price okay. Sticky tables, menus need changing as they were grubby and service VERY slow. Literally had to go looking for waitress twice. Disappointed with the experience unfortunately but would return for the food.

Visited on Friday night. Pre booked a table staff were friendly enough however had our order taken the waitress to came back to tell us 4 of the options we picked off the menu were not available due to the chef being off on holidays and none else placing an order in his absence. Re ordered to replace the items which we couldn’t have to be told AGAIN 2 of the what we chose the second time around were not available either. Service was slow but understandable for a Friday night but disappointing at 7pm on a Friday night not having barley any food to choose from.

I've been here a few times and I always enjoy it. The sunday lunch is lovely and the cocktails are always spot on. The booths are comfy and the service is always good.

What a run down place this staff are terrible the manger wants to grow up I would avoid this please Like COVID 19 I would not try to have banter in here what a dive it is needs closing done

Arrived for Sunday Lunch, friendly greeting and drinks arrived promptly.No chicken left so it had to be pork or beef. We ordered 2 beef and two pork.When the food arrived, the meat was two thin slices of pork each and 4 very small pieces of beef.The sides/ vegetables and Yorkshire pudding were lovely.The restaurant was quiet and staff were chatting to each other so ww had to gi ti the bar to ask for dessert menu. Later we had to go to the bar to ask for coffee.No one came to ask if the food was ok, we felt forgotten.A vegetarian would have been happy with the meal, but not someone who enjoys meat..

Just popped in here for an hour after our fantastic meal at the Jolsha over the road.Hubby ordered a coors and I asked for a pot of tea which was on the menu as tea 2 pound.Tea came out in a pot, 1 tea bag very nice it was too. Bill came and it stated tea twice, so I informed the waitress that I'd only had one tea she apologised and then came back and said as I'd asked for a pot of tea then that was 4 pound!!!! Dearer than my hubby's pint.For a tea bag and some hot water.First time in and last time in, if your gunna charge 4 pound for tea then have the decency to say yeah you can have a pot but that's classed as 2 teas so we.ll be charging you 4 quid.....for tea!!! Then I could have told you to politely do one.

Last minute managed to grab a table for 4, 2 adults 2 kids, we ordered 2 Sunday lunches adults and cheeseburgers for the kids all the food was superb staff lovely couldn’t do enough. We had a bottle Prosecco and a cocktail again very nice and washed the food down a treat......

A fantastic visit during the EOTHO campaign sampling the new street food menu! Great food, better drinks and all at a good price. Not to mention the fantastic building itself which has obviously had a lot of thought put into the interior.

Went last night the atmosphere is rubbish and the drinks are disgusting. My friend got a cocktail which was absolutely disgusting and I got a double pink gin with lemonade, for it to taste like acetone. Absolutely disgusting

Went here tonight for some food and drinks with friends, on the EOTHO.Was expecting it to be busy and knew there could be some sort of wait for food - but I have to say the service was slightly slow. I am a waitress myself and know how hard it is to work at such a busy time when it’s 50%, but when we had to wait 50 minutes for desserts & a pint of Amstel - it’s not okay. Waitresses were lovely however the man on the bar upstairs (again, I understand some big drinks orders and busy time make it hard work & can slow things down) - was totally unbothered by being asked 2 times to do the pint of Amstel - after waiting 55 minutes for it. It was a simple drink that should have been done quickly. Our desserts came and the staff were apologetic and did take them off the bill - we weren’t going to ask for this to be done but they did it anyway which was a nice gesture especially as it was already 50% off. The waitresses were very nice and I have no problems with their service. The cookie dough clearly was thrown together at the last minute so we assumed they had just forgotten to do our 6 plates (see picture).As 6 young students, we are certainly not ones to complain as we wanted to be out and catch up - but I hope in future that things don’t get forgotten. A small wait is fine but sometimes it’s too long. It Was nice food and lovely service but would only return for drinks.

Really enjoyed our evening at canteen the other evening. We were greeted and served by Robyn, who was really lovely and helpful all evening. She reccomend some fantastic drinks and really looked after us all evening. Cant praised this place enough. Highly reccomend! :)

ugely disappointed with the service we received this evening. As a group we all fully understood the social distancing rules and had to have two separate booths but the greeting we received from Robyn,the supervisor, on arrival at the restaurant, was nothing but rude. One member of our party got a warning and told she would be asked to leave if she continued, this was on greeting someone. We all respect the the rules within restaurants currently but there are much politer ways of going around it.Once seated, we ordered drinks and waited a while before ordering food. Food, when arrived, was nothing but average. Small starters (eg: squid - 3 rings for £6.50) some were not as described on the menu too. Main meals came and a member of our group sent it back for being cold!! Eventually, we were asked if we wanted to order deserts. We did. There wasn’t any brownie left, which is understandable if it had been busy and we accepted this. The group ordered other desserts. 15 minutes later the supervisor, Robyn, arrived at the table to say there wasn’t any cookie dough either, of which we had ordered. She followed this with “and the kitchen closed 45 minutes ago anyway!” The tone in which she addressed us was short and rude. Not at all did we believe she was someone who wanted to provide a pleasant evening and polite, good service for guests. So why offer desserts? Why allow customers to book tables at 7.45 if the kitchen closes early? There was no offer of serving us additional drinks, the bill then appeared at the table.Luckily, we received the government discount this evening as quite honesty we would not have paid full price and none of our party will be returning or recommending. What a great shame when previously our party have had enjoyable visits. It seems to have gone downhill and simply not coping with the influx of visitors during the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme.

My friend and I went at lunch time. Struggled to pick for the right reasons, menu was so good. I went with burger, brisket and bacon with the most amazing skins on fries whilst my friend went with slow cooked pork. Generous portions beautifully cooked and presented.We enjoyed matching food coming out with the menu. Decided we had to go back. This time we started with the fish tacos (would highly recommend) and cauliflower Katsu. Shared between three, plenty.Three different mains, all delicious, duck, beef and pork.Puddings also delightful though we were pushing it to finish!What a fabulous place to eat. So different.If you are bored with Italian, Indian and Chinese don’t despair. This is quality street food enjoyed with excellent service. Highly recommend. Will be visiting again.The chips are unbelievably good.Thank you to everyone, your pride in your restaurant is evident x

Been twice in 2 days, once for lunch and then for dinner... the new Street Food menu is fantastic.The Italian Porchetta was so fresh tasting and delicious, the chips are actually to die for - best anywhere <3Then the Weeping Dragon (or maybe tiger :) beef steak in black bean sauce was so incredible, I can't tell you.I had absolutely NOTHING to fault.The service was GREAT! We felt very well looked after by very pleasant staff...all round fantastic, can't wait to go again.

Had booked a table for me and two friends. When we arrived we had to wait 10 minutes before being placed on an extremely wobbly table, in which the waiter said we would be moved as soon as a table becomes available. As the night went on, we did not move table whatsoever. Now I can understand the reason for this as the place was ultra busy, however an offer of napkins or something to stop the table from wobbling would not have gone a miss. However, not only was the table wobbly and the wait for a table a long time, we also waited 20 minutes before our order was taken! At this point we were highly frustrated, and decided to ask a waitress if we were able to move table due to the wobbliness, the waitress responded whilst walking past the table, she did not stop to talk to us, she kept walking past whilst shouting ‘no, can’t you see we are fully booked’ or something along those lines. I was very disappointed in this service. It was also very uncomfortable to see the staff running around and dashing in and out of tables. I respect they were busy but they therefore need to put a system in place that prevents this type of service being given to their customers. On a positive note the cocktail and food were out of this world!

Love the new street food menu! The Duck Massaman was absolutely gorgeous, nicest duck I've ever had and so tasty. Massive portion. Fish tacos and burger lush too. Great service as always! Would reccomend, there's so much I want to try from the menu.

My favourite place for a Sunday lunch! Service is always amazing and food unbelievable. The beef brisket is beautiful!

Impromptu date night on a Saturday night. Fairly busy but they squeezed us in. The cocktails were extremely good and decent variety (not just everything gin based as many places have gone.) The food was also excellent plenty of choice for vegetarians as well, specially for the small plates menu so the missus was happy. Will definitely be coming back.

Came to canteen and cocktails as they had revamped the menu and its honestly amazing the fries are so fresh and the taste is so much more enhanced even when they were great before.I ordered the chicken and chorizo quasedia and oh my word what a meal the chicken was so moist and chorizo offered the right level of heat to the dish.It was accompanied by the mentioned fries a salsa Verde which brought fantastic fresh flavours and really complimented the dish along side ths was a sour cream that was extremely well flavoured.There was the option of guacamole but opted out due to allergy Over all food was fantastic and staff were extremely accommodating atmosphere very relaxed

Been here a few times now. Cater for all drinks, beers, lagers, spirits, cocktails and even soft drinks. Never eaten there but the food looks good. The atmosphere is always vibrant without being noisy.

Sunday lunch for 8. Place not very busy. Variety of meats ordered and 2 kids meals. For £10 the chicken dinner consisted of a chicken leg and vegetables with Yorkshire. The vegetables were that hard you couldn’t cut through the broccoli or cauliflower. 4 meals got delivered then the other 4 later this happened with dessert also. When our concerns were raised to staff we were told a lot of kitchen staff were on holiday . In fairness the chicken dinner was taken off the bill as I think even the staff member thought it should have been more. Meat was excellent ( beef brisket) vegetables undercooked and small portions. Toilets were a bit of a mess ! To be honest wouldn’t recommend don’t know what’s happened there but it’s not good value for money .

Had a fantastic meal here. The food was delicious especially the steaks and the staff are very kind and lovely. You dont wait to long on food or drinks and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.

Went with family for a family Sunday lunch.We have all been before with nothing but good feedback and a positive experience.We were shown upstairs on arrival and a bright and alert young lady took our drinks order Drinks arrived promptly and then things went downhill..A rather dull,uninterested young man took our food orders and went off.Those who had ordered the beef had to remind laughing boy that their food order was missing the yorkshire puds.Moreover,they had to remind him to bring horseradish sauce.Another male waiter appeared and mumbled something,possibly in English,carrying just one yorkshire pudding.Anyway,their missing puddings appeared,but the parsnips provided were burnt to a frazzle.In short,bad customer service at it's very best from laughing boy,who at one point was shouting to the food preparation area.Give it a try yourself but do take caution.

Great gin night, 3 gins plus a food platter for £15, great drinks and a plentiful platter of chicken, potatoes and nachos. Definitely worth a visit

Love C&amp;C, the cocktails are great with lovely friendly staff willing to point you in the right direction for a superb cocktail.

We assembled in this eclectic bar/ eatery where the decor delivers on creativity but far less so on comfort. We had booked a table for lunch and congregated in a downstairs table from which seats swung out. These were narrow enough for those who were less amply proportioned by me. I found these seats downright uncomfortable.

Went here a week ago with the family for my sons birthday. We were not disappointed!! The sharing platters were excellent value for money. My husband opted for the brisket, my son the sirloin and his partner, the pork loin...which they all thoroughly enjoyed. My grandson and I had a child’s portion which was very generous in size and really lovely. Well worth a visit. Great quality, generous portions, big enough for even the heartiest appetites .

-The cocktails were amazing! Particularly the banoffee one from the specials menu and the one with the house infused berry vodka!

Had a great time here for my friends birthday. Good was delicious and the service was spot on tbh. We had cocktails and the rhubarb crumble was my favourite! Would highly reccomend.

Visited recently with family and we were all more than happy. The staff were amazing as always and the food was outstanding. The steaks are especially nice and the peppercorn sauce was the best I’ve tasted. Would absolutely recommend for all ages. Kids meals were spot on. Thoroughly pleased :)

Midweek evening hardly anyone in, asked for table for two and were shown to large table where others were already sat. On asking for a private table we were took upstairs to an almost empty too. and offered a table for four with really high chairs. Being small in height these are not good to eat off. Back downstairs we were offered another high table. In the end we sat at the original large table. The place didn't get busy even tho we were told tables were booked?

i came here for my birthday meal, i am a vegetarian so i’m not surprised that i’m going to get a less variety of food. i saw the menu and there was only two main courses/meals that were suitable for vegetarians, this upset me a lot. i don’t know if the food tastes good but to any vegetarians or vegans or people with dietary restrictions, i wouldn’t recommend that you dine here as you will not have much choice. i am completely dissatisfied with this, therefore i left. i would advise this restaurant, as someone who has worked with my family in a restaurant environment, that if you want to create more business, you need to have more variety and you need to cater to more people. you will lose your customers if you do not do so, because people like myself wouldn’t be able to eat much. please rethink your menu and how you can cater to a more variety of people because not catering to vegetarians/vegans is modern day discrimination and this shouldn’t be in the food industry because food is about bringing people together.

This was my first visit and sadly I won't be rushing back anytime soon. Staff were very friendly and I loved the decor and style of the place but unfortunately the food was very poor. Cold stale, salty, cheap - really not good at all.

Fabulous treat, my wife took me for Sunday lunch following a number of recommendations. The result - quite possibly the best roast beef dinner I've ever had. The beef, the yorkies, the veggies and the gravy were absolutely first class. Not the cheapest in town but well worth it.

The food here is amazing and I have ate here many times and have not been disappointed once. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. I do recommend coming here if you want a parmo or burger. 10/10

First visit. Went for lunch with a friend and we hadn’t been before and wanted to try the venue. We found it overpriced and were under whelmed. Food only ok especially for price!! Staff were friendly though.

I’m a regular here. Popped for lunch yesterday and was not disappointed . Love the chicken wings and I’m addicted to the blue cheese sauce!! Nachos were gorgeous too xx

Following my a visit here in Sept and my not too happy review, Management did reply stating they had encountered a number of problems this day and that this was not their usual level of service and food and because of this they therefore offered a complimentary meal which was very much appreciated as was their honest reply. On this visit the service and food (ordered exactly the same as previous visit) was outstanding. We certainly enjoyed our Sunday Lunch so thank you - we will certainly be returning as you certainly proved our previous visit and disappointment was due to the problems you explained. For any cynics - i deliberately looked at other peoples meals and noted the level of service given to all to ensure we were not given any preferential treatment on this return/complimentary visit - and we weren't - food and service seemed to be the same for all diners and was as stated, outstanding.

We live close by so have been to Canteen and Cocktails many times for just drinks or food. The service is always friendly, and we have never had any complaints about the food. There is a vast selection of drinks and the cocktails are always fantastic! The atmosphere is very friendly owing to the large shared tables, though smaller private tables and booths are also available.

Went in for a Sunday lunch the food was lovely but once we had our meal we never saw the staff they took ages to clear our plates and didn't ask if we wanted dessert or coffee, they were to busy with the customers upstairs

Visited here this afternoon and was really surprised! The Sunday lunch was scrumptious. We had the beef brisket sharing platter, the beef was soft and juicy the roasties where crispy and the yorkies where very plump. Very impressed and will be returning!

Been here a couple of times for the Sunday dinner and been pretty good, albeit the gravy possibly granules ?? (so £13:50 seems a bit expensive) this time was a farce! Table for 4 booked for 1:45 pm... seated at 1:50pm and had to ask for a drink at 2:10...embarrassing! Ordered food at 2:10 and still not served by 3:10 disgraceful! Eventually served tepid veg and tough meat at 3:20!! Unbelievable! All this time witnessing staff standing around doing nothing in particular?? Apparently they had some kind of leak in the premises. We should have been informed there was a problem when we arrived and we could have chosen to wait or go elsewhere! In defence of the girl in charge she did not charge for the terrible dinner (after a prompt) and gave us a complimentary drink in the form of an apology? But won't be rushing back..

Came here for Sunday lunch as we had been a few years back and it was lovely but today was a complete let down. Service started out well. We were seated straight away and orders were taken relatively quickly. We were told we would have a 20 min wait for Yorkshire’s but we were served with our food moments later with 2 rather scabby looking puddings so we’d obviously just been given the last scrapings. They were still nice but it was probably the only nice thing about the meal. The veg was rock hard and nothing really seemed fresh. It was okay but nowhere near the standard we’d had before. We finished our meal and sat about 20 minutes. No one came and took our plates. The table next to us (who finished after us) had complained about finding some plastic in their food and their table was cleaned whereas they didn’t even cast an eye towards ours. We waited a little longer and no one came, we would have liked a desert but we’d waited that long we decided to just get some ice cream from Tesco ! We eventually went to the bar and told the lad that we wanted to leave but we hadn’t paid. He just looked at us and walked off ! Eventually someone took our money but overall was a disappointment, won’t be returning in a hurry.

Always a great atmosphere and a warm welcome. arrived with friends, was shown to a table and ordered from their menu. lovely Sunday sharing meal, would recommend

Very poor service - sat at table for 20 minutes before anyone came over then waited another 40 minutes for our food! Didn’t expect the Sunday chicken lunch at £10 to be served as two chicken legs - not impressed and the mashed potatoe looked like rice pudding - sloppy and lumpy. The rest of the food was lovely with a good selection of veg but I won’t return for a Sunday lunch again.

Been before and it's been good previously......but not today. 3 for Sunday lunch at 2pm. Got in at 5to, sat downand told 30min wait for food, OK ordered straight away. An hour later still waiting, 10 mins later we got plates and veg, no meats, no cutlery. Table next to us got meat, no veg. Then staff came over and had a huddle then took their meat and Put on our table!!! They'd been picking at it while waiting. Still no cutlery so I got up to get some myself, none available. So cold veg, dodgy meat, hard puddings, undercooked chicken legs....turns out a water pipe flooded the kitchen this am...why not just shut...the serving staff were great, not their fault.. Didn't pay for food....very dissapointed..will not be back in a hurry.....

Fabulous night celebrating a friends special birthday. 3 gins and a starter platter for a bargain £15. It was lush! Wish I could go every week. Starter platter was much more than I expected given what we had paid. Well worth the money just for the gin. Great service and we managed to squeeze in a cocktail too. Well worth a try (even on a school night).

My review may be coloured by the fact that I'm probably much older than their targeted clientele. Quite industrial type décor but comfortable none the less. Went for Sunday lunch. The place was very very busy and because of this service perhaps a little slow but not desperately slow and the waiting staff were apologetic and pleasant.. The starters, chicken wings and haloumi fries were disappointing. The main course was an unusual presentation of everyone's chosen "meat" coming on the same serving platter for people to help themselves. The pork was very good the beef less so however there was plenty for everyone. It was accompanied by the usual Sunday roast trimmings including Yorkshire puddings. Deserts were OK. The price was very reasonable. Now for an old fogey moment. I appreciate the venue is geared towards a young adult audience, but the lunch time we were there so were lots of children. I took one myself. Unfortunately the gents toilets was decorated with really quite adult photos of naked females, which I'm sure would be quite suitable for the adults but I suspect slightly risqué were children were involved.

What a lovely place n Norton to begin with they have some serious competition from cafe lilli and 12 Harland place but my god they persevere.

Came with family for a joint birthday. 7 adults and 3 children. We booked early due to having small children however after a mistake with our main meal service we had to wait over an hour for our food.

Good meal, fresh nachos were very good. Spoilt only by the waitress spilling the contents of my sandwich all over the table then scooping it up and still serving it to me.

Came yesterday with 3 kids. Often come here and yesterday didn’t disappoint. Kids ate the lot and the desserts were amazing I’ll be back next week xxx

Seen a few photos of this place on social media and I thought we would give it a go.

Walking into Canteen + Cocktails you can tell they have made a massive effort on giving it a certain vibe. LOVE the set up of the long tables and general decor. MOVING ON though the starters <3 WE LOVE these. I could sit there eating the Jelepeno poppers, homemad Nacho's (the only way they should be done) and we also had the chicken wings, which were spiced perfectly. For main course I had a Juicy lucy burgar - you can tell it's been well made and good meat. The Big Combo Platter for one was GREAT. The meat fell off the bone, and everything was seasoned and cooked well. The house fries are the best. MY FAVE SIDE is the mac + cheese- wow.... It's a MASSIVE portion for a side and the best mac + cheese I have ever had. The cocktail choice is amazing. Variety of the "blow your roof off" to the classics and their own signature ones. Death in the afternoon really might kill you off - it has absinthe in it ;) But finish with a perfect pint of Moretti to sort you out. We will be back... SOON!!

I had seen customers with a burger on my last visit and wanted to try one.

Can I just start by the saying that our experience with the staff was great. There were a couple of ladies who came to take our food and drinks order and they were very welcoming, polite and very attentive, so a big thumbs up for service.

I’ve visited in the past and have been impressed with their separate gluten free menu. When I visited with friends recently the menu had changed and nothing was marked as gluten free - just a line instructing customers with allergens to speak to staff. When I asked the waiter he was rather vague and replied ‘you’ll know better than me’ - staff obviously need training in this area as this could lead to someone being given false information and ending up very ill. Service was also slow considering there were barely any customers. There was then a mistake on the bill where we were charged for twice the amount of drinks we’d ordered. Disappointing.

My wife and I have been here once before and were really looking forward to it, as it had been so good previously, however we were really disappointed as the food was awful.

Been here a few times for food every time been impressed interior is amazing. This time excelled itself i got the beef brisket one word wow. The cocktail menu looks amazing but everytime i been driving so not been able to indulge. Will defo return again and again. Keep up the good work

There were four of us in total for a bday meal, we were pointed to the table that was booked for us. The cocktail menu did have a good choice of drinks and they were pretty good! The place was quite quiet however it did take a long time for the waitress to come over with desert menus and then to take the order and we had to get up to pay after asking for a card machine. The food was brilliant however, came out very quick!

Paid £28 for the sharing platter for two. Sounds a lot but when you consider that it is £17.50 for a 10oz sirloin steak you get loads more meat for £14 each with this choice. A carnivore's dream. Brisket, pork, half a chicken, spicy sausage...

We were fitted in because of train cancellations to further afield. Saturday afternoon and very busy but staff were coping well. We only had cocktails which were very good but the food going past looked and smelled good.

Unbelievably slow service even when the place is quiet. Maybe think about having selected staff to just pull pints and not make cocktails. Waited 15 minutes for 2 pints on a quiet Saturday night. Unreal.

Four of us had Sunday lunch here. Could not fault it. Meat was could perfectly. Plenty of vegetables, great Yorkshire puddings, and fabulous gravy.

Eventually served us starters and still frozen in the middle. This was after we had to chase our meals after watching others being served who came in and ordered after us and we had booked a table. For the first time ever we sent the food (starters) back, paid for the drinks and left. NEVER again.

Really nice atmosphere, food delicious & staff super friendly! Would recommend the Pulled Pork & Sweet Potato Wedges!

A friend of mine recommended a while ago that I bring my wife here, it just took me a long time to finally do it. We were in the area and decided to treat ourselves. After this visit I was wondering "why did I leave it so long?!".

My friends and I came here for cocktails on a Saturday evening during The Christmas period. We went to the upstairs bar and it took a while to get served, it wasn’t overly busy but there was only 1 waiter serving when we arrived. Soon another waiter arrived and after about 10 minutes we had our drinks, which were nice, quite expensive.

I don't often write restaurant reviews but felt compelled to write a few lines to express my disappointment with both the food and service at Canteen and Cocktails. We arrived a little earlier than our allotted booking for our staff Christmas night out to see two of their standard tables with 20 chairs 'crow-barred' around them. It was immediately evident that when people took their chairs the amount of space allotted was woefully inadequate. When my companion queried the arrangement she was told that there was no guarantee that we could be seated together. When everyone arrived it soon became apparent that there was nowhere enough space. We were told the table behind us would soon become vacant - it didn't. So unfortunately our group was split into two with the tables split and people sat back to back - not the vibrant social occasion we had hoped for.

This bar has a lovely atmosphere and the cocktail/gin menu is extensive and the food is delicious. Loved the Boston baked beans which are a key signature dish. Great for a night out or a couples night

I always like to be fair so service hopeless but the lager was ok. I don't know what makes me invisible to bar staff even when I am the only one at the bar. It's maybe not a bar that welcomes the over 40s. I would normally just walk out but this time I got angry which I regret. Won't be visiting there again but don't let it stop you trying it.

Only stand at this bar if you want the staff to soak you making cocktails!

I was really looking forward to eating here but what a big disappointment!! The girls were friendly but they seemed preoccupied by their friends who were having a birthday (but not buying anything). After they took our order we waited 24 minutes for our meal to arrive. That may be a reasonable time to wait but we were the only people eating and the other people were only drinking. The food arrived and seemed impressive but it was a definitely a looks better than it tastes. I had a fish finger sandwich and there was more bread than fish. My partner had baby ribs that had very little meat. (I know they were ribs but there should have been a bit more meat on the bones), there was also a dusty powdery flavour. I would advise all to save their money or just get cocktails which are supposed to be very nice.

We visited this for Sunday lunch , the seats were sticky and obviously children had been sitting there and they hadn’t been wiped.The food was very average the meat platter arriving five minutes before the vegetables. The food was tasty enough but £13.50 for Sunday lunch was a little steep for what it was.

My partner and I visited recently for easiness. Does exactly what it says on the tin, nice setting, decent food which is reasonably priced and good service!

Always made very welcome and staff attentive. All other people either eating or just having a Sunday drink seem very happy an relaxed. Can't think of any thing to complain about whatsoever.

3 friends and I recently visited your restaurant for a starter and Sunday dinner. We had reserved a table in advance and were given the end of the first long table on the ground floor as you walk in which was lovely.

Never bothered with Norton even when lived here fir over 50years but decided to try Norton high street . It's changed along its vibrant and trendy . Fab pub and restaurant food good , cocktails better !! Not to pricey staff are helpful and polite excellent night making it a regular haurnt

What a lovely historic building in the pretty village of Norton. A hidden gem, do try this place for drinks or food. I was surprised by the range on offer.
