Castle Carvery Racecourse in Broadland

Been couple of times in the last year but yesterday was for a special occasion to celebrate a 90th birthday. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. We were allowed to decorate with balloons, banners etc although we kept it simple. Great service, fantastic food and good selection of vegetarian options. Only thing was where we were positioned, for a group of almost 20 we were between the bar and the main dining room which is the main thoroughfare of the venue. We could've done with a slightly quieter spot to accommodate the elderly people in our group in wheelchairs etc from the vast amount of people coming through with trays of drinks and children running around. It didn't dampen the day or the atmosphere we made it what it was.

Had Xmas dinner here on Xmas day; the place was completely full and although the staff were very busy they were helpful, efficient and cheerful. The food was good and plentiful, and all told not bad value for money.

Sunday 29th 3 of us just came back after arriving at 2.30 to find a few things missing from the selection like stuffing & small sausages. But unfortunately no Adnams Ghost Ship again they never run out of Beef so why quit often a lovely beer that I enjoyed with my meal.

Enjoyed a two course carvery meal with my family.

We had lunch with our grandchildren aged 9 and 7 and all of us chose the carvery. 2 of the cutlery settings were so dirty we had to change them, 1 fork actually stuck to the paper napkin. The edge of my partner's fork was so jagged and such poor quality, it actually cut his mouth. We were thankful one of the children didn't get it so my partner took it to the bar to tell them what had happened and make sure it was thrown away so no one else's mouth would be cut, especially not a child! Management were totally unconcerned and he received no apology whatsoever! Someone later came to ask if the plates could be cleared and if everything was ok? We told them what had happened. Again, there was a total lack of concern The food was mediocre. Most things tasted like they were basted or cooked in sugar and had little taste other than that. Service was awful and almost non-existant apart from one young lady behind the bar. Cannot recommend this place on any level.

We had a festive dinner for 13 just had a series of problems with the booking which finally got sorted by Vicky one of the managers , she was the only one who new what she was doing & was so nice , an asset to your staff & company

Really delicious carvery. The chef was on loan from The Wherry Hotel and the food was excellent. All kept warm with covers to stop the veg drying. All the food was lovely, the mashed potato and butchers sausages stood out as excellent. All for £11.95 which is a bargain price in November 2024.

Not cheap but good carvery lots of veg and more generous than some with meat avoid busy periods

The taste of the carvery was good , it was let down by the fact it was not hot. The Turkey and the pork were dry, the stuffing was hard. We had not been for two years and unfortunately our visit reminded us why that was.

Great place for families with the large indoor play area, which is brilliant for children, very good carvery, I especially enjoy the chargrilled Mediterranean chicken salad, plenty of ingredients with a side order of chunky chips!! 😋 Delicious!!!!

Food good like all castle carverys but a lot of children running about the room

Well the food is alright, nothing special but perfectly acceptable, little kids running around like it's a play area, not really acceptable, but then you can't really blame the kids, can you 🤷🏻‍♂️

The food is awesome, and so are the staff. And on 2 occasions (Karens) have done what karens do. They scam for either free meal or demand money back, the table next to us both times 🤣. I feel for the staff who have to put up with stupid people like them. We love coming for our great food, plenty of disabled spaces. To the manager and staff 10 stars 👍, also from someone else reviewing this place I so love the slightly burnt parsnips, in fact I look for them ☺️ they are awesome.

Lovely carvery with good choices of meat and vegetables. Don't want carvery then check out the menu, there's something for everyone from burgers, steak to fish and chips. Only thing I would say is definitely need more staff and maybe keep eye on tables to see if customers need anything else.

Not by any means awful, not appropriate for a wheel chair in my opinion The system in place to queue for the carvery. Is like the krypton factor assault course for a wheel chair user. It was very busy and just made access impossible. Felt like a complete inconvenience. The food was hot but some items had obviously been left there a long time.

Great place to eat,been going there several years now.Food is good,staff are friendly and Nicky is an Outstanding Manager. No 1 place to eat and drink in Norwich Salhouse.

On Monday 30.9.24 my friend and I both ordered Chicken Tikka Masla, and both meals - rice and curry( & bowl) arrived barely warm. I am sure a thermo probe had been no where near them! We asked for it to be reheated and as the waitress took the meals away she said it would take 5-10 minutes. After more like 30 minutes, Vicky the manager noticed that we still hadn't got our meals. She immediately took charge of the situation and offered us complimentary drinks - we just asked for glasses of water. She checked on us a couple of times whilst we still waited and again after our hot meals arrived, and offered us complimentary sweets for the poor service we had received. Vicky's attitude and service was super and just what you would hope for in such a situation. When the dinners and puddings arrived they were lovely and we even got mango chutney with our hot curries! I would give general service 1-2 stars and Vicky's 5 star.

Amazing food, services was amazing also!

My partner and I came to your restaurant last night after having to collect some items in Norwich. The weather was absolutely dreadful but as soon as we walked through that door what a fabulous welcome we received .We were soon asked what we would like to drink and also our order was taken .The food arrived perfect my usual Scampi chips and peas for me Sauceage and mash with huge onion rings for my partner. Both really lovely .Then we had a dessert which was also lovely. We were served by a few different members of staff and all were great .A lady called Vicky was the manager of the day and she also had a nice chat with us .So what have we got to complain about NOTHING. I am sure the lovely staff had no influence on the weather .We will be back xx

Had a Sunday carvery yesterday and was amazed with how great it was. The staff were incredibly helpful and very kind. It’s nice to find somewhere that knows how to clean cutlery too! 10/10 place! Will be back again soon!

Fantastic carvery with a great selection of food. Staff are really helpful and friendly. The day we went, it was really busy. It just shows how popular they are. Long waits to get a table and 45 min in the carvery que. Could have done with a few extra staff on that day.

Very slow, more interested in chatting. Even when asked, still nothing till about 20 minutes. Not even busy when we got there.

It was very busy today and Bradley was super keeping us served with drinks His service was fab 👍😁 we will be back again

Had a lovely time here on Friday came with my family and enjoyed roast. A lovely lady called vicky looked after us and was so helpful with the kids and helping us with our plates etc. Really made our visit extra special

Another lovely meal at the racecourse, great food and great value, has the castle tower burger and would never leave unsatisfied. The manager was lovely as always and is always a lovely feeling when recognised for returning.

Came in and was warmly welcomed by a member of staff. Order was taken quickly and were sat on a clean table. Food was brought out quickly and tasted very good. Our server, Aimee, was very nice when clearing the plates and offered us desserts which we took her up on. Drinks were finished and we left the establishment with a nice goodbye from the staff. Will be coming here again and definitely recommend it.

Lovely Carvery with a great selection of vegetables and meat. Very generous with their carvings of meat! The service was exceptional and quick. Karl is very friendly and polite!

Good place for kids, portion size where good The mixed grill was great along with the rest of the food. Service key then down, wanted the kids meals with the starters, but instead all the food turned up at the same time

Went to the racecourse for a family meal on Sunday 21st and have to say the food was very average. The meats were nice but the veg was awful and cheap especially the roast potatoes, they tasted and felt like rubber. Not impressed compared to a month ago when we last visited

We are a family of 6 and took our son there last night for a celebration evening meal, the greeting we recieved upon arriving and the staff were absolutely wonderful, friendly with a real personal feel and made us all so welcome with a 1st class service.the food was great and i would highly recommend as we will be returning very soon. Manythanks for giving us all a superb evening.

the food was dry and bland and clearly had been sat under the lights for a long time. My friend only realise after using her vinegar it had flies in. The cutlery was grubby and the staff seemed lethargic and bored. Harley got an apology after finding flies in the vinegar. Spent extra money on deserts and the waffle seemed stale and cold unfortunately this place has gone really downhill. It use to be a favourite of ours but not the same anymore. It felt really grubby and unhygienic will not be returning

Great fresh food service is always friendly and with a smile

Great restaurant to come and eat/drink. They messed up with our bill and charged us for 2 of the same meals however the lovely gentleman with the colourful shirt was really helpful. I will definitely return again soon and I would recommend this lovely restaurant to everyone.

Megan welcomed us, showed us to the table we'd only reserved by phone 30minutes before and couldn't have been more helpful throughout our visit. With 2 LD adults, 2 tired children and 2 hungry toddlers we found this high level of service really helpful! Nothing was too much trouble. Please thank the whole front of house team. Food was OK. Nothing to particularly write home about, but good value for the price and the kids ate free. 8 of us was £127 including softdrinks. good menu choices plus carvery. , happy to accommodate gf and df too. A choice of gf deserts!!! And df icecream!! We definitely recommend this restaurant.

We have visited your restaurant to come for a Sunday carvery and for everyone at my table to be shocked to find your unhygienic workers to have spiked us with hairs which put everyone off of there meal and also the rough clientele which felt like they where towering over us and when speaking to staff they tried to tell us it was a ‘scratch on the plate’ but this was very clear it was a hair and they where then very aggressive with us onwards from this incident

Food was decent but there were hairs in our food didn’t want to eat it after that. Manager said that they were scratches until I picked the hairs up they gave us a refund afterwards

Expensive also the chef that carved our meats had dirty fingernails and a beard with no hair net on his chin!

We would like to say we come regularly to the racecourse but being a last resort we thought we should. However on this occasion your carvery was disgusting. The food is dried up and hard. I asked was stuffing fresh on reply he said yes however it was like eating a rug so solid and dry potatoes and parsnips so dry they hardly had any insides. Your establishment was hardly busy yet the servery sits full and drying up. Not only that the chef looked bored too FUNFORT! Absolutely stinks of urine and the staff would rather sit on the desk colouring in! Rather than looking proactive in cleaning and making the place and being presentable. Also giving details on the desk is also a breach in GDPR as other customers can see your information I'd like to see an improvement otherwise i won't be visiting again. It's disgusting and very disappointing

Gammon was overcooked and salty but rest of food was good

Had carvery bit stingy on meat very thinly sliced. Veg can be hit and miss too. But we were lucky and some veg had been topped up so was hot. Had the carvery dessert deal. Desserts looked a bit dried out and lots had ben pre cut in the cabinet. So had a sundee. Staff are friendly though. And you get what you pay for I guess.

I was holiday from Canada, I took my family to the restaurant. April 11 2023. I have been here 5 years ago and it was excellent. Very disappointed food was barely warm and dried up. The only thing that was hot was the gravy. The waitress and bar staff were lovely. I should have complained but it was my last night of my vacation, and did not want to embarrass my family.We will not go back next visit. Shame on you for serving old cold food. If you read the revue properly you would see I was there a month ago. My brothers live in Norwich so yes you can do something !!!!

People's children running about like screaming lunatics doesn't make for a great meal out experience. Parents, think about other people and take charge of your own children.

The several times we were there in the bar area having a drink, unfortunately there were children running back and fore. So it was really spoiled by the young children not being looked after or not being told to stop by the staff. Shame, it could be a nice place.

Grandson got knocked off climbing frame asked for cold compress was given blue roll with ice cubes no first aid box no first aider nobody supervising children good job it wasn't more serious

The food isn't exactly great however, the meat is ok, vegetable selection is bad (no cabbage or broccoli), potato's are awful and cauliflower cheese tasteless and mushy. The desserts howeverare divine for some reason!!! But it is really really affordable which is why I take my kids there! It's a compromise for sure. Edit* I added a star.... there seems to be more and better veg! Better quality for sure and I've been back twice

Found room on a busy Mother's Day for a large group. Non-carvery meals arrived in good time. Family atmosphere

Had meals here often , but going down hill rapidly. Last visit on a Thursday at about 5.30pm had a carvery. It was absolutely disgusting, Luke warm, meat was tough,potatoes were chewy, veg soggy . Think the.food had been left for at least two hours . Didn't even eat to take left overs for the dogs like we usually do !The cost was 5 pounds more per person than another nearby carvery .The menu for other food was very sparse. Won't be going any more

The food was cold but the gravy warmed it up a bit. It all taste the same. It is family-friendly and well laid out. The service was good.

Maybe time I went 7.15 pm , but food under lights dried out , Meat ok , very average.

Just popped in on our way home. The interior is a bit on the dark side, upholstery on some of the cloth chairs could do with a good scrub. The female staff were pleasant and helpful as for the Carvery nothing special limited choice on the meats bit on the pricey side compared to and much preferred Capt. Mamby in Gorleston .

Very poor. Avoid. Food terrible, all staff miserable as sin especially the barman called Tom. 10 of us , spending £150 plus, everyone said the same. Won’t return

Had carvery ,beef and pork ,plenty of fresh hot veg ,very enjoyable very edible ,no complaints very good value

Went for a carvery at tea time and the veg was hard the meat was ok but it wasn't very worm it's gone downhill since the last time we went for a meal.

Well this place is always a cheap no thrills roast which is normally all okay. But today standards fell, first no meat was available for 10 minutes yet all the veg was left to dry out under the lights. Gammon was served with 50/50 fat proportion. Cherry on the cake was we had the kids come through and inform us about some children who were stabbed to death...turns out they have the news channel playing in the child soft play.

Food was decent, the baguette however was really dry and wasn't at all what I expected for a carvery baguette. The service wasn't great, the lady serving me wasn't rude and didn't seem to know the menu at all.

The roast was awful. The roast potatoes were so hard you couldn't eat them. It wasn't very warm either. The staff started clearing our tables in their coats while people on other tables were still eating as they wanted to close up early. I will not be recommending you to anyone unless things change

Went to the Racecourse last night, me and my friend had a carvery and the food was really nice - lots to choose from and everything was fresh and hot on the counter. The guy on the carvery was really polite and friendly. Only thing I would say is there was only one girl on the bar and there was quite a queue (10-12 people) so it took about 15/20 minutes of standing near the bar to be served a drink, no one else came to help her even though there was other staff about. Other than that we had a lovely evening :)

Visited here because we were craving a carvery on a Thursday night after a busy day! Pulled into the car park and boy was it a bump ride. Lots of pot holes so be aware. The restaurant is HUGE!! So many tables! We ordered drinks and paid for the food at the bar and found a table to sit at. It was pretty quiet, maybe 4 tables when we sat down were full. The carvery selection was amazing. Lots of different choices and a good meat selection also considering how quiet it was. Was way too full when we walked out but enjoyed every bite.

- The beef was not thoroughly cooked so I had a bad stomach "issue" when I returned home. - The cutlery looked like it had been cleaned without salt in a dishwasher or it was very worn. - Very very tired decor and seating. A throw back to the 70s. - For some reason, despite it be a very cold the day the eating areas where very cold! - The young staff were not attentive leading to people at my table going to the bar to order drinks when the staff could have checked the table now and again. Not one visit by them or the manger during our meal.
