Castle Street Exeter in Exeter

I was invited to a birthday party this weekend and found myself at a bar I’d never been to before—and won’t be visiting again. While the private party room was pleasant and we managed to create a good atmosphere, the bar itself left much to be desired. To start, the drink quality and pricing were absolutely outrageous. I ordered a Gin and Tonic, which is my usual choice. They used a bottle labelled Gordon’s, but I am certain it wasn’t genuine Gordon’s gin. The tonic was an unnamed, inferior brand. They served this in a small 200ml plastic glass and charged me an extortionate £7.90. Knowing that my body reacts poorly to cheap alcohol, I decided to switch to a bottle of Prosecco, which cost me £30. Although the Prosecco was mediocre at best, it was a slight improvement over the gin. I can’t help but wonder why so many young people in Exeter end up unwell after nights out, given the poor quality drinks sold at exorbitant prices in some bars. For me, this bar is definitely one to avoid in the future. I haven't tried any food, and I wont even going to try.

Decent place for a drink and to watch the game but I had very poor food. Around a 20min wait to be told the chicken burger I had ordered wasn't in stock, but I was given a free beer so I thought no issues. But half an hour later the beef burger replacement arrived which had tiny thin patty and was so cold it literally tasted as if it was out of the fridge. I wouldn't eat here again but would come for a beer and sport

Although quiet, a very welcoming standard of staff. The reason I give it 5 is because even though it may be quiet at the time I was there, the bar staff didn't stand around, they cleaned the shelves and worked. Lady with glasses and blonde hair very good at her job.

Insanely good roast dinner, went to watch a game of football and you can eat their restaurant menu in the bar. Easily the best roast (giant pork chop) I have had in a while. Great building and friendly staff.

Eaten here a few times and loved every single visit. Their roast is amazing - recommend the porcetta. The sticky toffee pudding is one of the best I've ever had! Lovely staff and really cool atmosphere. Recommend!

Iv eaten at castle street a couple times now and it’s been faultless each time, very attentive staff that make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. I ordered the steak and to my amazement the very passionate head chef brought out an array of different locally sourced steaks and explained how each cut should be cooked for a perfect steak experience I chose the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. There Sunday roast is also outstanding, can’t wait to go back!!

What a great atmosphere castle street has, we enjoyed live music and great food. Would highly recommend this venue

This isn’t my first visit. I return frequently. The food is superb & slightly different to other establishments around. Service is on point & the prices are good. All-in-all a fantastic place to eat.

Can't rate the food here enough! Starters mains sides all top shelf. Smoked meat especially good. Would highly recommended.

Newly opened in old Hole in the Wall venue. Clean, cosy and vibrant. The best steak we have had anywhere cooked with real passion and expertise. Really tasty unusual entrees. Didn’t have room for puds, but selection looked delicious. A must go to restaurant for us now each week. Worth the trip from Sidmouth. 😍

This place is to not be over looked. The food is simply impeccable… name a place that brings the meats out and talks you through them - in Exeter?

Best food i have EVER eaten, presented incredibly, chefs are absolutely lovely and experienced, cannot fault the food or venue!! Maybe while the bar is full of football fans keep the restaurant door semi shut? As we had to shout over the noise :/

WOW...... Quite possibly the best steak meal ever 😋 Huge compliments to the chef, this guy knows how to cook the perfect steak. Great venue, attentive staff and overall fabulous experience.. We will most definitely be back for more!!

Awesome new addition to Exeter, love how they’ve decorated it - especially the records by the toilets! Looking forward to seeing a gig here soon, and trying out the bingo!

Great place for a night out with live bands and music on the weekends, boozy bingo in the week, cocktails on tap and pool tables/sports bar! All round perfect pub/bar
