Charlie Chan's restaurant in Highland

First of all, I have to point out that I'm not sure if I should be more angry at those who made this "food" or at me, who also thought I should eat it. I should have turned around straight away and gone to bed hungry. The signs were all there. From the outside, the shop looked as if it had closed, the "menu" on DinA4 sheets in neon colors slapped on the wall. There wasn't a single Asian person to be seen in an Asian snack bar. The mixed appetizer platter consisted of pieces of fish, 2 different spring rolls, wontons, and spare ribs. Everything except the spare ribs (which had maybe 30g of meat in total) were fried beyond recognition and came with a neon-colored sweet and sour sauce. The Peking soup was the worst I've ever had and it had as much to do with Beijing as I had with the South Pole. I also ordered the Korean noodles with “roasted duck”... I'll probably never understand what the duck is supposed to be roasted. It doesn't matter because I definitely won't be ordering anything there again. I don't want to bash anyone here, I know very well how difficult it is to have to earn a living in the catering industry. But there are things that don't work. If you can't do something then you have to get help.

The worst food I have ever tasted, inedible... I say tasted because I had to throw it all away. The special rice was sauce with rice and kitchen scraps. The prawn curry 3 prawns swimming in a sea of ​​sauce and the raw duck swimming in sauce. If you are desperate and everything is closed, go to the supermarket and buy a sandwich.

Shocking,food? You've got to be joking DO NOT GET FOOD FROM HERE! PERIOD..the worst "special fried rice" EVER!! What the hell is the red jelly like stuff chucked over the top of the so called food,? And if that don't get ya then the amount of salt used just masks the rubbish that's served up..I ate a couple of forkfulls and then chucked the rest out.i should have known better just by the looks of the inside..the owner of this place needs to take a long hard look at him/herself..I would be ashamed if it were me dishing up crud food like this..there were 3 Americans who ordered "food" at the same time as me,I bumped into them later next day..we'll 2 of them,the third one was laying ill in bed...I wonder why...you've been warned

The only thing that wasn't terrible was the service. Food more or less inedible, waiting time was long and the place was neither clean nor did it have a pleasant atmosphere. Definitely don't eat here!

WOULD'VE PUT NO STARS IF I COULD HAVE!!!!! Ordered food last night and honestly will never be going back. The food was near un-eatable! Have been to quite a few different Chineses and have never been this disgusted.

Really awful bad food and experience, please read on...as when I returned food for a refund, I got told I should have taken the food back straight away for a refund... But as I live 30 minutes away and had Chinese meal planned with friends in for a nice meal and evening, I didn't think it would matter if I discussed the bad meal and refund the next day.... BUT IT DOES MATTER because of the house policy on refunds only stands the same day /night as the food?? Extremely bad customer service /relations as the owner would not even come and speak, he couldn't have care less if he had tried...!! and I DO SERIOUSLY QUESTION...?? WHAT DO THEY DO WITH FOOD THAT DOES GET RETURNED THE SAME DAY/NIGHT ?? as I couldn't get a refund because... "it had been out of his kitchen for to many hours and I should have comed back last night "...was what I kept getting told, This man seriously does not care for customer relations and his businesses reputation. As I was returning alot of untouched food, I feel I was entitled to a refund. I will never use this Chinese takeaway again the food was bad especially duck and beef dishes... But hearing him from the kitchen his attitude, left me speechless.. I feel for the staff working there, Should be NO STARS !!

I had Chinese food in few different places in Europe, but this one something different. I wouldn't call Chinese food. Ordered few different dishes, but the whole food was awful.

The food was simply not good! I don't know how food can be both oily and dry at the same time, but they managed to do it! The udon was overcooked, with little amount of also overcooked vegetables. The duck meat was breaded with a tasteless and dry batter. The chicken didn't taste like or have the texture of chicken. To be fair, the portions were big and, in our case, they were quick to prepare it.

Cashier very pleasant food didn’t take that long. And food was delicious.

Great little Chinese, very friendly and assisted with my initial enquiry very well. Takeout menu does need updating with prices as £1 has been added to most meals. Food supplied very quickly after ordering having only waited a matter of minutes. All meals supplied were huge portions but the shredded chilli beef had a little to much chilli in it, the beef in black pepper sauce had no pepper in it and the lemon chicken was lacking in lemon. All edible but tastes need adjusting slightly please. Would visit again as its very reasonably priced.

Staff were nice but the food I waited 45 minutes for was not good. Chips were cold and chicken was tough unfortunately and there was others waiting over 1 hour for there meal. Hopefully not a regular thing as I'm just a visitor.

This is quite possibly THE Best Chinese takeaway I have ever had.... We walked here last night from the Premier Inn. Took a look at the menu and ordered the bargain box. 2 starters a chow main, a main meal, chips & rice. It was loads of food. Walked it back to the hotel (only 5 mins) it was still hot when we tucked in. Thankyou Charlie Chan x

Wow this was one of the best chinese deliveries I have had in a long time!! We were doing the NC500 and stopped by Thurso. They delivered to the campsite and food came in plastic containers which was great. Thanks again for a lovely meal.

Had chicken curry rolls best in town I think

Poor Mushroom chow mein soaked in soy sauce. Very few mushrooms and the soy sauce was so salty swimming in the noodles we couldn't eat it. Such a simple dish and yet poor cooking. Would not reccomend!

Mediocre Chinese experience. We decided to stop at this Chinese takeaway as it was quite late and no other places were still serving food. This was the highest rated in the area. The menu is expansive and has many items to choose from such as sauces and side dishes. I went for the small dinner box which consisted of a choice of starter, side dish and main course. I went for vegetable rolls, noodles and Chinese style chicken. The spring rolls had barely any veg in and were mainly just mushy pastry. The chicken was mixed in with something else that looked like chicken but tasted like some kind of canned food. the noodles were nice but a little salty which is to be expected when eating Chinese. I would steer away from the prawn crackers as they had an overwhelming fishy taste. As we were waiting for our food, a woman stormed in on the phone swearing which was quite distributive. She stormed into the kitchen and continued to yell. The food was ready quite quickly and the overall experience was mediocre. Not the best, not the worst.

First time here as we were staying just outside Thurso for two nights, the had this menu in the info pack so thought we give it a try, big mistake. Firstly, after we placed and paid for our order (cash only btw) we were then informed by the lady it would be a 40 min wait, would have been nice to have been told this first and we'd have gone elsewhere. Anyway, weren't in a rush so decided to wait, around 50mins later we got our order and drove off. Got back to place we were staying and it wrong order given to us, phoned them about 20 mins later they delivered correct order and also left us the initial wrong order too which git binned as wasn't what we liked. Correct order did arrive hot but 2 out of 5 at best. Whilst waiting they lost so much business due to the really long waiting times, strange set up.

Can't comment on the food as I was doing a pick up for someone else but marked down as there seemed to be a long wait time

Had a fantastic meal from Charlie Chan's tonight. The takeaway and delivery staff are so friendly and the food arrived freshly cooked before the estimated delivery time. The Singapore noodles are amazing and are the best I've had. My partner had chicken and char sui egg foo young and thought it was brilliant. After a long day exploring it was a bonus they delivered to Thurso camp and caravan site. Would highly recommend

We could not believe how good our Singapore chow mien was...partner said that's the best chow mien iv ever had,,,considering we have been to China and it was in my opinion excellent we sat in the gardens opposite charlie Chan's ,,

On holiday in the area. Did a search for a local Chinese. This one got good reviews. Ordered two meals with prawn crackers told delivery would be 30 mins. It was delivered on time meal was amazing pipping hot. Will use again when in the area. 5 star's

Bit of a wait for food but ok cos hot and tasty when received.

The menu is incredibly long. You can get any possible Chinese food you can imagine. They offer boxes that are a really good price. I got the mini snack box which was £9. Really cheap! I got so much food that I couldn't finish it. Unfortunately the only thing I enjoyed was the salt and chilli chips. It wasn't bad, it was just average.

Lovely food, been here a few times when up with work. Staff are great and the food has always been good, definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

1st time here ..very nice I had the chicken noodle soup ..delicious a chow mein ..very nice .and a few other bits and pieces all very tasty my only disappointment was the king prawn balls which were obviously microwaved in future I will get my prawn balls from. The Chinese round the corner eighty eight apart from that everything else I will get from here..very nice Charlie chan thanx but pull ur socks up with the prawn balls

We ordered over the phone and were told it would be ready in half an hour, so we had a short walk. And cane back later that day. When we arrived we were informed that the food wasn't ready just yet and it would be ready soon. 45 minutes after ordering a member of staff came out later saying they had run out of duck giving the impression that even though the food was supposed to be ready 15 minutes ago, they hadn't even started! So we waited and waited until finally another member of staff came out asking what meat came with the dish we ordered giving the impression they still hadn't started it even though 15 minutes ago the 1st member of staff said it would be ready in 5 minutes. After 1 hour of waiting, we were still asked what dishes we wanted and we were too fed up to wait any longer, so we drove off. The last member of staff that came to us said there was only one dish left to make, but then we're questioned about other dishes. The idea of having takeout was to have a night of cooking but in the end, that did not happen and we were not able to try the food. Looking at other reviews though the food sounds highly rated and delicious but on this occasion we could not try the food which was a shame. Overall comments: I would not come here, bad service and appalling waiting times, I definitely would not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant specifically for takeaway, on the next street there was a lovely Chinese restaurant and takeaway which had lightning service and delicious food, if you come to Thurso andd want a good Chinese takeaway, this is the place to go.

Tasty filling food, good take away in these times

Phoned order...said it would be an hour. After an hour, said it would be 20 mins. After 20 mins said they lost the order and found it...and would be another 20 mins, told them to forget it, wasted time, wasted journey. Very poor. Never again.

Ordered at 1700 for 1830. Travelled 20 min to get there. Arrived "sorry will be 20 min" waited 20 min. Sorry will be at least another 20. No organisation, no call nothing. Terrible terrible service. Shouldnt accept more orders than they can cope with and if they run behind contact the customer.

Always friendly service, food is prepared extremely quickly - you never have to wait long. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered here, everything is yummy and portions are very generous.

I really love eating at Charlie Chans it's a good Friday treat but I really wish the Crispy shredded beef was in thiner strips and make them a lot more crunchier but overall amazing place to eat would recommend

My wife and I usually have a get a take out. Usually the beef curry, barbecued ribs and chicken curry rolls. Good helpings.

Waiter was brilliant. Knew the menu very well and as I was a lone traveller staying at a local b and b he put me near the TV and away from the more noisy customers by the window. Much appreciated! Very nice food and good portions.

As a regular customer for years I was recently disgusted by the staff of Charlie Chan's. Having ordered for home delivery I get a call from the driver that he has arrived. We sit at the front door and give up after a reasonable wait. I contacted the driver twice to no response. I called the restaurant 10 Min later to find out what was happening. I was immediately handed over to a member of kitchen staff who didn't seem to understand any of the points I was making about my order having not arrived. Eventually he became argumentative claiming that he had only put it in the taxi for delivery a few minutes prior. I explained after being lied to and the food having been sat in a taxi for over 10 minutes I was no longer willing to pay. A problem that could have been solved with polite customer service, instead I got an argument and lies from a business I hadn't yet paid. I will now withdraw my custom for a period of a year and check back in 2019 to see if attitudes have altered in that time.

There is no restaurant. It closed and switched into a shop and take away. We wanted to eat in a restaurant, so we didn't try the food.

Good Chinese Takeaway with a Gluten Free selection.

Unfortunately it's gone really down hill. It used to be my favourite Chinese takeaway but I won't go anymore. Your order wont be made until you have paid so even if you call it through they won't make it until you go and pay which means you can be sat there for 20mins sometimes. They only except cash now which I find inconvenient and they close on a Wednesday now which is random. Last time I went I had ribs and the meat wasn't great, it was little bits of rib and mostly grizzly.

Happened across this chip-shop-with-tables on walking in to Inverness on a Friday night around 8:30pm. We expected a basic product but were delighted by the keen table service and the excellent presentation of the meal (see photo). The quality of the food was very good.

An excellent selection of many and varied Chinese dishes. Eat all you want for £12 (evening). Very busy, but still efficiently operated by the polite staff. Seemed to be popular with the locals - which is always a good sign!

An overall good experience, prices are a bit steep but for the size of the portions its acceptable. Food is delicious and the delivery drivers are polite enough.

Went to visit it but the business has now closed and is being made into a fish and chip shop.this was a very popular place with myself and the locals. I believe it will be sadly missed.
