Chef's Table in Cheshire West and Chester

We took friends from Australia as we wanted to give them a great dining experience. We were disappointed. The nibbles were fine, but the mains could have been better and hotter. The staff were good, but the air con was faulty and we had a pool of water behind our table, so we were eventually moved. I'm not sure what's happened to Chef's Table - before it moved it was simply the best experience anywhere in Chester, but now I feel it's lost everything it worked so hard to build and I certainly wouldn't recommend.

The complete experience was impeccable and excellence on a plate. The service was polite and well informed on all aspects of front of house with an extensive knowledge of drink pairing selection. The food WOW…. Congratulations to all the team on a wonderful plate of food. Inspiring!

We had the 2 course lunch. It was excellent. Not only was the food nicely prepared but it was presented nicely in a reasonable time by nice courteous staff.

We went for their Xmas menu. Haggis snacks were very good, pigs in blankets relatively ordinary. Starters were excellent - pork belly. We opted for the ham hock Xmas meal and very disappointed in the presentation. The meal was swimming in gravy and so salty I couldn’t finish the meal. We mentioned this to the waitress at the end who said a number of other people had stated the same. We weren’t offered any recompense and we didn’t press for any. Not what you would expect for a meal for 2 costing £150. I’ve had better for much less. Very disappointing

The gin was missing in the drink so had to ask for it which was swiftly rectified. The risotto lacked a little seasoning but other than that was ok. It would have been good to have cruet set on the table. The katsu curry sauce which was ordered separately with triple cooked chips was tasty. For dessert, I had chose apple, blackberries and frangipane cake with cold custard. Wish i hadnt bothered-the cake was the hardest cake I've ever had in a restaurant. The apple was not in the cake but what looked like its skin, cut in a thin ribbon shape and wrapped around the small round slab of hard cake. I had asked for the custard to be warmed up if it was ok as it stated cold custard. What I got was what looked and tasted like cold milk. Suffice to say I wasn't impressed.

We went here for a 3 course meal. The food was nice. The little dish for the table (haggis fritters) was very good and the starter was fantastic. The mains were hit and miss, the chicken main had a piece of fried chicken which was more like fast food chicken. The desert cheese board was maybe too simple with slightly stale crackers. Over all, not a bad experience but I expected more from a high end restaurant.

Attended a friend's birthday lunch, 1st visit as not my area but definitely not the last time I'll travel to this great restaurant. The food really is something special

Great food in centrally located restaurant. Started with cocktails and fizzy. Food is as a fine dining experience with optional wine pairings. All the plates we ordered were divine with helpful advice from Seeno the sommelier.

Delicious new fusion dishes, worth trying

What a brilliant restaurant. The food was amazing, inventive and original. The service was superb. It is rare to find someone with such in-depth knowledge of the ingredients, their origins and the overall menu. We had the tasting menu with was just amazing, layer upon layer of complementary flavours combined with such skill. Great that you can see into the kitchen watching real genius at work. Great choose of wines, brilliant atmosphere, why more can you want. Loved it.

Solid food prep. Delicious. However, they brought very over-salted parmesan mashed potatoes. Unlike most fine dining chefs, there was no recovery of the error with a small token of appreciation.

My partner and I went here on Saturday 7th September 2024 to celebrate his 50th we checked out all the reviews and let me start by saying most seem to refer to previous premises, so let’s address some of the comments others have made and update them, the restaurant is beautiful, well spaced out, the music is not loud at all intact the ambience is perfect, the toilets are unisex but there are five in a row and they are of exceptional standard. Now once service and food it is simply a joy, the staff whilst young are informative, attentive and helpful, the wines and drinks are fabulous with a great selection and advice around what to try. The open kitchen is a masterclass in how a professional kitchen should run and very interesting to watch. The food is quite simply an experience that will never be forgotten each plate was not only beautiful to behold but magical to experience. Thank you to all involved we will certainly be back.

Absolutely wonderful food, one of the best places I've eaten. We had the day time special menu, with starters of scallops and duck, mains were cod lion and pork. Desserts lemon cake and cream brulee, glasses of wine. Well worth having the lunch menu, as evening is almost rhe same but more than twice the price.

Music was a tad loud so we struggled a bit to talk but the staff here are all lovely and helpful and the food is incredible and beautifully presented. Both here and 28 are fantastic restaurants and I hope everyone tries both, although trying them will likely lead to more visits so be warned :) plus you can park in pepper st just across the road and it's close to taxis and buses too.

I've went to the old location quite a few times and am very glad to see that the new location meets if not exceeds expectations. The quality and presentation are top notch, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The atmosphere adds to the experience, with friendly, knowledgeable staff and a comfortable, modern setting. Be prepared to book several weeks in advance, as due to the quality, tables book up fast for popular timeslots and for special events like the recent phenomenal tasting menu.

Amazing! Service was exceptional, all staff were knowledgeable of food and wines. We had the set lunch, 3 courses £35. Food was great, the number of flavours and taste sensations was fantastic. Champagne was good and we had a lovely 3 hours eating, drinking a relaxing. Thank you Chefs Table

Found the restaurant on Google Maps and decided to come in with a same-day reservation. One of the best restaurant decisions we’ve made in a long time! Ordered the lunch set menu and was wowed by the plating, combination of flavours and the creativity that went into designing each dish. The four of us ordered different dishes but seafood ones stood out being fresh and well seasoned. Loved every component that came with the cod dish (if I remember it correctly?). The dessert Eton Nest made a strong impression with its plating and the refreshing-ness of the fruit slices and sorbet combination. Highly recommend! Would definitely be back when in the area!

We had an incredible experience at Chefs Table this weekend celebrating our Anniversary. The Lounge area was comfortable and inviting for pre dinner drinks. Our table in the restaurant was perfectly situated, noise levels at a minimum so able to hear each other and the excellent choice of music. Wine ordered from recommendation from sommelier who’s knowledge was impressive - ( very good Rioja) My husband and I decided to order the same dishes which were exquisite, getting better with every bite. Surf & Turf to start then Stone bass for main. Dessert - well, spoilt is how we felt. We ordered caramelised Cherry and Banana - It really was one of the nicest desserts I’ve eaten. It was our anniversary, (we answered the questions when booking) “are you celebrating?” -Thought no more about it after booking however on the night the kitchen kindly sent out a plate with “Happy Anniversary” and a delicious meringue along with an additional dessert called (Chester Zoo). Which was amazing, we loved it. Over all, a wonderful experience. Attentive staff, beautiful relaxed surroundings and absolutely out of this world food. Chefs Table is definitely worth a visit. WOW! From the moment we entered the service, quality and taste of food, and atmosphere blew us away. We started with a cocktail at the bar. My wife had the watermelon tea and I had a glass of Viognier, and we had a great conversation with Millie. At our table, we enjoyed a bottle of the 2021 Campolieti Valpolicella with our Spring Pea Arancini, then Duck Confit Leg, followed by our mains of Lamb Rump and Fillet of Beef. Every sauce, flavor, presentation, service was executed at the highest level. The balance of tastes were perfect. The kitchen produces spectacular dishes We wi be back very soon!

Really enjoyed our experience - the first time visiting since they relocated from Music Hall Passage. The mini butter chicken kievs and pork belly were a particular hit! Service was very attentive - Lucien was a great host, knowledgeable and suggestive. Will definitely visit again!

Wow ! We have just had another amazing meal at The Chefs Table celebrating my birthday. The tomato salad is just on another level 🍅 followed by a wonderful roast beef dinner …. The yorkshire pudding is filled with a beef ragu delicious 😋 Dessert was a slice of lemon cake. Great company, food and wine. Thank you Liam & team

Not a warm reception upon arrival Wine sommelier Cino was arrogant and unfriendly. Very rushed, condescending and lacking customer service finesse. Starters were ok but the Main courses were all too salty; the beef the pork and the seafood, when we commented on this Cino said oh he loves his salt does the chef. There was no offer to re present the dishes without several grams of salt. The wines were reasonable but very overpriced. The desserts were disastrous and were rejected. The place is very bland and lacks a welcoming atmosphere Avoid it’s a waste of money and overrated. I’d read a review by TV reviewer which had led to me really looking forward to going but the Chef’s Table was a massive letdown

Great dining experience. The food tastes great, is well presented and served by knowledgeable and professional staff. A very imaginative menu along with a great drinks menu means it is without a doubt one of the best places to eat in town.

Lovely tasty food. Came for lunch Thurs 18th April) ... friendly atmosphere. Could see into bright airy kitchen . Fresh herbs on the counter. Had smoked salmon ( quite small portion of salmon...but all very tasty.) Lovely warm focacia with olive oil and balsamic...delicious. cod and artichokes, apple crisps, walnuts. Partner had wild mushroom risotto..Lovely. his starter...the chicken pad Thai was really good. The manager ( not sure) was excellent, overlooking everything that was going on ...greeting people etc, helpful. These things make the difference between an ok place and a nice place that people want to return to. Thanks.

Just wow! While visiting Chester with my parents, I wanted to treat them to a nice lunch and chose here - I'm so pleased I did! We were all blown away by the service and quality, and agreed it was some of the best food we had ever had, and very reasonably priced for the experience. I cannot recommend enough!

We lunched on Saturday 30th March. How sad it was to see only 4 tables of 2 at 2pm. We could not fault the food. However, the restaurant has lost its previous atmosphere. Whereas, before, it was noisy and bustly these features added greatly to the enjoyment of the whole meal experience- it was ssoo good. Saturday past, with so few customers, we spoke in hushed tones. The waiting staff were 'hanging around' and here I must add they were not very smartly dressed - the aprons had obviously seen better days, the bar/drinks waiter walked around in trainers without socks and one of the female waiters wandered around in sneakers! We had hoped to see the restaurant as busy as before the move - not even that number were in! The lighting is poor. The bar area should be brightly lit, the net curtains need removing and potential customers able to see in. Please go back to Musichall Alley, it was so successful, before the massive overheads of Pepper Street drag you down. I have been in the hospitality business over 40 years currently being as a hotel director. I will not put this review on Trip Advisor.

Really enjoyed lunch and unusual cocktails.

From start to finish we had the most wonderful evening for our anniversary meal. All the staff were so attentive and the food was the best both my partner and I had ever tasted! Can't fault a single aspect of this place and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to treat themselves. We have already decided we will be back for our anniversary next year. Thankyou for a wonderful evening and for our first experience of orange wine !

I’ve been here a few times, and to the old location. The depth of flavour in the dishes is unbelievable. The service feels personal.

We thought the reception off-hand. The table had been booked 4 weeks earlier for an anniversary. We were shown not to the Dining Room as expected but to a poorly lit corner of the Bar Lounge with bar chairs and banquet. No apology was offered. Disappointedly we left without dining. Make sure you check your seating arrangements before you arrive!

Slightly underwhelmed, given everyone else's fabulous reviews. 1. Prices were high, but we expected this. 2. Extensive wine list but cheapest bottle was £36. We chose to have glasses of wine as a result and noticed that very few tables had bottles of wine. 3. It was very noisy. Music was so loud that we were virtually shouting to hear one another. 4. Food. Foccacia bread was nice. Starter was quite nice. Main courses looked quite nice but one of them was salty and vaguely unpleasant. 5. We decided not to have desserts as we weren't feeling bowled over by the food. 6. Service. All the staff were very friendly and professional. 7. Two courses, two people £141. Overall, not bad but we couldn't recognise the 'should have a Michelin star' restaurant described in other peoples' reviews.

This place is a little gem!!! The food is simply sublime. Fresh, simple ingredients but created with love and to perfection. If you are a cocktail lover, there are a few to choose from.

Food was amazing, service was prompt and with a smile, relaxed and not rushed. The combination of textures and flavours was perfect. Will go again for sure! Best food had in a long while.

I was concerned this place wouldn’t be as good as the smaller cafe but it was excellent. I had the beetroot starter, duck Christmas dinner and the chocolate fondant. They were all delicious, interesting and cooked to perfection. The fondant was one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. The sommelier that served was superb, sorry not sure what his name, but he enhanced the day. Thanks will come again, highly recommended to anyone.

We have visited Chefs table many times over the years and today was a special occasion so it was a natural choice. The main course a cauliflower dish was nice and so was the dessert, however I had a carrot soup which was not to their normal high standard and had some hard things in it that got stick in my teeth. They said croutons but these things where not crunchy, but rather chewy and adhered to my teeth....rather annoying. I reported it at the time and again at the end of the meal, when I requested the bill the soup was still on the bill. I asked if their was something they could do about the soup but the server first ignored me and only when I asked again did she go to speak with a manager. On returning she took about 50 pence off the bill for my.....'personal preference issue' as she called it. This was not a great experience, was not good service and made us feel uncomfortable. I hope the management can reflect on this as something has gone wrong today.

Food was great, but too limited the table. This place is let down by the toilet and uncomfortable seating. The toilets are disgusting genderless loo’s! I have no idea why anyone thinks this nonsense is a good idea!!! It’s not, no lady wants to go to a toilet, have to touch the loo to put the seat down and try to stand over the seat, while struggling to not step in mens urine. Also why do the disabled loos get put as far away from any other loo, this just makes it extremely difficult, for people struggling to walk. Also it’s way too bright and seating is extremely uncomfortable. For that reason won’t go again

Absolute rip off, tiny dishes at extortionate prices , first and last time we will ever be ripped off by this place, if you compare this place to opera grill or Rio on the same street there is definitely no comparison. We spent approximately £114.00 and both myself by and my partner was still hungry when we left.

Fine dining at its best with great service.

First visit to the new location. Lovely setting with very nice furnishings , much more space than previously. Proper bar and waiting area allows you to have a drink before your meal. Food and the drinks were excellent as always.

Imaginitive excellent food with service that was so well times. Particularly lovely sommelier this evening.

We visited for my sisters birthday and had an amazing time. The service was impeccable, very friendly and knowledgeable staff who gave great recommendations. First off the cocktails and wine were really great, we all have different cocktails that were stunning and tasty. Then the food was beautiful, each dish was interesting and delicious. We had lots of nibbles to share, with the stuffed courgette flower and falafel crackers being my favourites. The roast grouse starter was absolutely delicious, as recommended by our server. My main was the duck which was probably the best duck dish I've had at least in a long time. My 2 year old enjoyed eating some of my celeriac roots and absolutely loved the tomato essence that came alongside his tomato dish (with an incredible sorbet). The desserts were also incredible, I had the chocolate fondant which was reminiscent of a sticky toffee pudding but chocolatey it was amazing. I also tried the honey parfait which was equally amazing. Thank you chef's table for the lovely evening! The only note I could think of would be that there was not huge option for vegetarian food with only one choice of main.

Oh my god! Out of this world! We came for a Sunday lunch. The food was insane. The staff were very lovely and were very knowledgeable of the menu, and the Sommelier recommended a lovely wine! I really recommend the Pad Thai starter, the courgette side with the tomato ricotta, the Stonebass and the triple cooked chips! Really enjoyed the music, do miss the sheer curtains from the old Chefs Table, it feels a little less intimate with everyone peering in.

No question that this is the best food you can get in Chester, possibly the whole of the North West. It’s exquisite fine dining in a great setting. Why on earth it doesn’t have a Michelin star yet is a mystery to me.

This place was lovely. A smaller restaurant but the atmosphere was great. The service was fantastic too. Really accommodating for dietary requirements. Had plenty of options and everything we ate was delicious, we were so full but couldn't leave without trying a desert! So worth it. Great value. I was able to book a glass of fizz per person when booking, which was a great surprise for the person's birthday. A very special evening and I can't wait to be back.

It's been a while since my last visit but it didn't disappoint.Great choice of main course and accompanying vegetable side will also please visitors .A friend and I did have starters and apperatives so we really didn't need a dessert but it would have been rude not too.Delicious ginger cake with passionfruit sorbet, perfect end to fab lunch.Can't wait for next trip .Staff really pleasant and added to the experience, thank you.

Found this amazing place by chance, only staying in Chester for a couple of days. It was honestly one of the best meals we have had. The menu is interesting and staff make you feel extremely welcome. The food was sublime!!

The restaurant is tucked away down a small side street so there is not much footfall outside. The building itself is small but not cramped. There is ample room between tables so it still remains a private dining experience. The set lunch menu is amazing value for money, especially when you compare the cost of the same meals on the dinner menu. It took longer than expected to have our order taken but the restaurant was fully booked. The food came out in good time and was absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were larger than expected due to the nature of the restaurant. After the starter and main we were full! Could not recommend Chef's Table enough! We will definitely be coming back!
