Chequers in Wealden

Stayed for a couple of nights while exploring Lewes, Charleston in Firle and Brighton. Taking into account the age of the building, room was excellent, good facilities. James and the team were superb throughout our stay. Service both evenings and breakfast was quick. Breakfast had a great selection both continental and cooked. Evening meals were freshly cooked, well presented and good value for money. There are also deals on some nights which help! Wine was good, as were the cocktails. Would recommend and definitely stay again when in the area!

We had a wonderful family Xmas dinner here, which was lovely. Service was brilliant as usual and the staff very friendly. Will definitely be eating here again.

Me and my family had a christmas lunch with The Chequers today, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We loved the little touches with the christmas crackers and festive setting on the table. The food was amazing and the service couldn't be better. All the staff are absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough for us. Cannot recommend them enough

Chequed in at 2pm for overnight stay for work. The welcome was warm and friendly 😊. This is an old building so the access to the rooms was a little awkward. Suitcase a bit of an issue going up.the stairs. Room a good size with a huge bed, pillows not to my liking as a bit on the firm side. I like good feather pillow as they mold to your head ( that's my preference). Bathroom good size with a good size shower tray and screen. Good size towel rail. My main issue was the radiator in the room wasn't working, but I didn't realise until later in the night so didn't report it until the morning. Apparently there's a few issues with the old plumbing. Hope it's sorted for the next guest it was room 15. Car park is a good size too. Food in the evening was good, I had a sirloin done medium and it was medium. It was good value as it was steak night. I had continental breakfast in the morning which was good. Overall a good experience, if the pillows were better and the radiator in the room worked it would have been top marks

Excellent. Very good hospitality. Comfortable bed with en-suite. Food , plenty of choice for all tastes. Definitely stay again.

Lovely hotel, great location, charming rooms, however there wasn’t a phone in the room to call for room service, a knob fell off a cupboard and the toilet roll holder fell off the wall too. It could do with a bit of maintenance. But overall a lovely place!

Excellent. Superior room lived up to its name, large , airy and well appointed. Service very good. Great menu choice for evening meal, and superb breakfast. Very convenient location as base for visiting a number of locations in the area. Pleasant, small village to walk around.

The inside of the room was lovely and the staff were so great - my only issue was that we were on the first floor and we could hear every step on the second floor above us due to old squeaky floors.

I did not stay, but I had a birthday meal there for my mum. The staff were quick, attentive, and friendly. The menu had a large selection, and we're relatively cheaper than similar establishments in the local area. The food was of very good quality and cooked perfectly. I will definitely be visiting again for any occasion when I'm hungry! I did look at the rooms online out if interest, and I must say they looked very large and comfortable, and the prices were very reasonable as well.

We went for the Mr and Mrs evening, what a blast, so much fun. The staff are just lovely too. Oh I must mention the wine, they have a fabulous list here, 5 stars all round

Gaye was an absolute gem, looking after everyone around the place and always made to feel welcome. The food was delicious and I left happy.

Good food . We've eaten here a number of times, our Xmas meal was fab.

Lovely place, amazing views around. Staying in room 16 in a small ''cottage''. Plenty of parking with large spaces even for my 7 metre work van. The room was cosy, clean and warm. Large TV and free WiFi just a bonus. Very strong hot shower. Amazing breakfast.Dining area looks cosy and food quality great. The serving person was very attentive and friendly. Overall amazing value for money and would definitely recommend. 5 stars.

Lovely Pub. Limited drink selection as it's Green King... but it's really lovely inside. Toilets are spotless and dog friendly.
