Chester's in Cheshire West and Chester

Visited Chesters for lunch. The staff were all pleasant, After reading through the menu decided on fish and chips [£10.95] and coke. I didn't order the small portion as I was hungry. When it was brought to the table I've never seen such a small piece of fish and queried the portion size as I thought they had brought me the small one. But they hadn't. I can only assume the small size would have been half a fish finger. On paying I noticed they were charging £2.30 for the coke. It had said on the menu £1.95. When I queried the price I was told the £1.95 was for coke on tap and I'd had a can. RIP OFF PLACE [Or plaice}. AVOID

I enjoyed my food but wont be going back because half way through my meal a lady was allowed to come in with 2 dogs. Taking dogs into a place like this is stupid, the place is to small, the tables are on top of one another as it is. Hardley room for customers let alone dogs! So afraid I wont be eating there again.

This is good for lunch. The servers are very pleasant and polite. The food is good and not too expensive. Fish and chips in the smaller portion was enough for us. It seems clean as well and you can get a nice glass of red or white wine to go with your lunch.

Very very Very small portions and the young counter staff was more interested in talking to colleagues about TikTok than listening to my concerns about the size of the portion asked for my money back without tasting them and went else where.

Omg the fish was the best that I've ever tasted in all of my life and I'm 66,the whole meal was so lovely ,the service was faultless

Terrible service. Extremely bossy waitress strictly controlling which table customers are allowed to sit on. Could also hear her being bossy to another waitress who was clearly new telling her that she was wearing the wrong colour shoes ( it’s a chip shop not the Ritz ) and said new girl looked miles better than bossy waitress. Food was ok but definitely won’t be going back until she has left ! The other customers that were there agreed. We all felt extremely intimidated by this awful service.

I don't know if this place has changed hands since our last visit as then it was really good. Ordered for takeaway, got back to our hotel room, mushroom soup is now bland, ordered lightly battered haddock, chips and gravy (woman forgot gravy but apologetic) haddock was lightly battered to be fair but overcooked and crunchy around the outside, chips had obviously been left over and re-fried they were rock hard and couldn't be eaten, gravy had also changed. It sadly ended up in the bin. As a note, as we were just about to leave a lady served a customer picking the food up to be re-fried (AGAIN!!) with her fingers. We will definitely be looking for somewhere else in Chester for fish & chips.

Only ordered battered sausages but it took an age to be ready. Staff seem more concerned about standing around chatting and slagging of the managers and other staff. Clearly slag off an give customers dirty looks also.

We decided to eat in the restaurant which was a huge mistake. The bill was £19.20 for fish, chips & peas me large sausage & peas. The smallest fish I've ever had in a chippie and their standard portion of chips was half the size of any small portion of chips I've ever seen. The mushy peas were dry. The large sausage was the only thing that was a standard size and came with another micro portion of chips. The fish was decent. The chips were average. I can't in any way recommend this place. Highway robbery!

My initial reaction was positive but the staff seemed aloof and disinterested, more interested in joking about and childish banter than quick service. The cod and chips itself were fine but for £11.50 I've never been so disappointed with a portion size. Even in the Lake District you would fare better. The large box was only half full. If that's a regular chips, I'd dread to see a small. Sorry, I rarely feel the need to complain but this was very annoying.

First impression the whole place is immaculately clean. Staff provide excellent service. Food piping hot and freshly prepared . Tables constantly cleared and cleaned. A wonderfully refreshing change to experience such quality and professionalism. You will not be disappointed.

Partners been here twice for chips and gravy 2 be charged 2 completely different prices nearly 13 pound for chips and gravy. Girl behind counter needs customer service skills... Someone's making a profit Cause second time round half the price of that... Avoid

Decided fish and chip lunch and ventured inside we waited as requested, a young lady stood at the till talking to a person the opposite side of the counter two more waitress’s joined her and still we waited. I then asked the young lady was anyone interested in serving and at that stage she stopped chatting. No one moved from behind the counter but waved to someone at the rear of the resturaunt. We had our order taken I had cod chips and peas and 2 slice of bread and butter. I saw on the menu that bread and butter was £2 ( a bit extortion) but if you ordered then it was 55p. Someone making a good mark up !!! The meal came at £12.99 I personally thought it was a little expensive but continued. The peas were nice the fish not the thickest but I think there is a potato famine in Chester this week. An extremely small portion. I can’t understand why management can’t get to grips with staff training unless of course that’s how they conduct themselves. Wouldn’t rush back.

So glad I didn't stay ..as reading these reviews I got off lightly...My husband and I where seated .but we realised it was very cold sk stood to find a table more into the cafe ...when all of a sudden a member of staff came running from behind the counter to say we couldn't sit in the seat we wanted to .as it was for four and we were a two . Needless to say we left pronto...the girls attitude towards us the paying customer was very rude and very unprofessional...She needs some staff training in customer care ..Will never go back

We sat down and we asked the waiter if we were able to order items from the takeaway menu, we were told no, understandably, and proceeded to order from the takeaway section. While we were waiting for the food to be made, an old couple walked in and asked the same question and they were told they were allowed to stay in the restaurant. We ended up getting our food after 15 minutes (a pie, sausage and chips) and eating outside.

Where do I start. We visited this restaurant while shopping in Chester - that was our first mistake. We stood at the front of the restaurant as requested on the sign, waiting to be seated. We stood there for approximately 10 minutes being totally ignored by the staff. When they finally acknowledged us, the most miserable and unwelcoming waitress showed us to our seats. We then waited another 10 minutes before being given the menus. When we gave our order in we waited another eternity before our drinks arrived. I had the small fish and chips and my husband had the large fish, chips and mushy peas. I had to give my husband my chips because the amount of chips on his plate were smaller than mine. The batter on the fish was soggy. I have never been to such a depressing place in all my life. The cost of the meals was way overpriced for the poor quality food. Do yourself a favour and give this grim place a miss. May I suggest that the owners give their miserable staff a lesson in customer service. ,

Seating is good and comfortable. Staff are miserable. Could overhear them slagging off snother member of staff. Inside menu not as good as takeaway menu. Very pricey. Staff really are miserable and just look like they can't be arsed. Food did take a little while to come and was kind of brought out in dribs and drabs. Reason for high score is the fact the food was really nice even it finally arrived. Will come again but won't sit inside to eat.

The smallest fish and portion of chips I've had for a long time. Above average prices and a long wait even allowing for the fact they cook to order. Fabulous tasting fish & chips let down by fairly poor service levels. If it wasn't for the delicious fish & chips they'd get 2 stars.

I totally dislike giving negative reviews as service is dependent solely on your personal expectations but I write this to advise people that if you do wish to use this fish and chip shop to eat in be prepared. Today I entered around 13.00 and asked if I could sit somewhere quiet as I had my son who has Aspergers with me and he has issues if he is in too close a proximity to others, I assumed that this would be no problem as empty tables where plentiful, my request was met with disdain and the young lady whom I dealt with treated us both in what can only be described as a dismissive manner, she was rude and disrespectful and showed little to no understanding of people with sensory issues at all, as a matter of fact she seemed to find some pleasure in her refusal to accommodate my request. In this day and age it is highly unusual to find a business that does not understand customers needs, especially regarding disability but Chester Fish and Chips somehow have managed to miss the memo. I cannot judge the food as I left without ordering but based on service alone one star is a star too many.

We have been eating here for about 2 years now. Usually we drop in the middle of the afternoon. Great gluten free fish and my husband loves his regular fish too. Great, unless you go anytime near 6 in the evening. Even on this website...

I would have given 5 stars for the food, but the waitress, Chantelle, was abrupt and certainly not service with a smile. Totally different from my visit earlier on this month when the staff were all delightful. No tip this time!

Fast, efficient, welcoming and lovely food. Very attentive service, best place to eat in Chester for quality fish and chips. Looking forward to a return visit 😀
