Chevalier Inn in Exeter

Stopped in The Chevalier for a few drinks at the start of our night out and everything was pretty good so decided to return for breakfast the following morning…shouldn’t have. Four adults in our group, 1 ordered a vegetarian breakfast while 3 built our own using the extras. It was quite busy so understand the bit of a wait for food to arrive. I also understand the kitchen staff didn’t realise the breakfasts made up from the extras were for more than one person so were all put on 1 plate. We asked for a couple of extra plates, but had to wait ages for them whilst the food was going cold on the table in front of us. Eventually, 2 small teaplates were brought out to us to fit our food on. We asked for 2 larger plates only to be told we probably wouldn’t get them as kitchen wouldn’t be happy if they had to send out more plates. After a few more minutes the larger plates were given, but the food was now very cold. We ate it as we were hungry, but won’t go back again.

Dirty tables full of dirty dishes. Feet sticking to the dirty floors, over 40 mins weight for food that has still not turned up. Choke a block with customers. Noisy and overcrowded. Avoid at all costs

Burgers slightly burnt but edible however I expected more for my money Also plenty freezer tables but were cluttered from previous diners / drinkers so u have to wait until a table is cleared

Whilst I appreciate that it was very busy, our food took a long time to arrive, and when it finally arrived, the gravy boat contained cold gravy as if it has been taken out of the fridge. The menus were sticky with dried alcohol on them, no staff came to ask if our food was satisfactory.

Really bad i found a bit of grass in my burger and it took ages to come to my table

I came here with my boyfriend and i found a slug in my chips and as a cute pretty girl i was angry and me and my boyfriend left how gross

We arrived at 5.45pm ontThursday 28th November for a Curry Club meal. Table was sticky and had not been cleaned, no Curry Club menue cards anywhere Food took 35 minutes to arrive and was cold on cold plates, although the flavour of the Chicked Tikka Marsala was good. Not enough staff for volume of customers Not up to Weatherspoons usually good standards only 2/10

Absolutely terrible terrible service today. Fully disgusted on how the service was. 50 mins since ordering it took to get my food and when the order arrived it was half empty! I even paid extra for sauce and I didnt get any. Utterly disgusted!! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!

visited on a Wednesday morning and was shocked with how busy it was! we used the app to order and service was quick. sadly they had run out of burger buns, and the lower score is to reflect the fact they made no effort to dress up the chicken burger! however, surprisingly the toilets were lovely! 😂

Weatherspoons in the middle of Exeter... Usual cheap and cheerful drinks and fare... Nothing wrong with it, all delivered quickly to the table shortly after ordering.

Went here during the summer and the roof garden was lovely although I was being assaulted by a wasp. Service was slow but the staff were friendly and food was actually good for the usual Wetherspoons standard. Overall it was a nice place.

Dirty tables when i asked for it to be cleared i was told that they were short staffed.when I wrote and complained about it i got the same sort of answer.piss poor.

Not happy with this wetherspoons, we ordered Food and drinks from the app, we ordered 2 steak lunches both medium to well done, got our drinks in 2 minutes the app said our food would be approximately 15 minutes, half an hour later I was just about to ask but the waiter turned up with them, so we began to eat, but when cutting in to our steaks they were more like rare, and tough as old boots, we tried to catch a waiter's eye but were totally ignored by this time we had to leave. We won't return to this pub again and we won't recommend it to anyone

Great place food was good for the money

Cheap and cheerful as it's a Wetherspoons. But they do a great variety of beers 👍🏼

Good day pub but youngsters pub at night due to clearing tables for a dance floor and DJ. Spoons in the day then changes at night.

Good value for a drink lots cheaper than a lot of the pubs in exeter.

Chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream tasted exceptionally good. The steak was medium cooked and the sauce was really good while the breaded scampi was just okay and the chicken tikka masala tasted really good. It had all the authentic flavours of chicken tikka

Probably the worst breakfast I've ever had. The table was filthy. The bacon was overcooked the eggs were under cooked the hash browns were very greasy the toast was cold the sausages and beans were ok. I've been to weather spoons before and always been ok.

Great atmosphere, bit slow on food service but was very busy being a Saturday evening

Utterly appalling service. As we got to the bar the bartender went to serve one couple, causing another to kick off at how long they'd been waiting. The bartender dismissed them as not being stood in front of a till, when they pointed out they were the bartender said it was broken. She then took their orders, walked to the other end of the bar where she proceeded to blatantly moan about the couple and laugh with colleagues about the couple being annoyed. Walked back to the couple and served them from the till she said was broken. Of thise colleages she ridiculed the customers with, one of them was serving, the other was doing nothing, despite several other people waiting to be served. Another staff member arrived to have a chat, now two staff stood chatting whilst customers waited for one person to serve them. We left and found somewhere else.

Another wetherspoons full of character and charm

Went in to have a couple of drinks on a hen do and got told to respect other people just because we laughed. Left within 3 mins of being there. Absolute joke. Rude and not very welcoming.

Came in here with the missus and her kids.. We had just drinks.. But the kids had food.. Our drinks was ok I suppose wasn't in the correct larger glass though which was a little disappointing.. Was put in normal plain pint glasses which made it go flat quickly.. The kids enjoyed there meals though...

Nice Wetherspoons pub in centre of Exeter was in Exeter for a few days break , enjoyed the scampi and chips there quite a nice atmosphere as well if in Exeter definitely worth a visit

The food was basicly what you get at every Witherspoons ok , not wonderful but ok . I had the steak and kidney pie and thought it was not bad , the chips that came with it again not bad , but the mushy peas were very bland . I had a pint with my meal and that was good . I found the staff again did their job well enough , no plates left on the tables so no problems on that front .

The bearded blue haired being has a terrible attitude.

Convince yourself you are on the set of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” by going into this place at 9 in the morning. Also cooked breakfast was stone cold.

Fairly empty at this time of day however the tables were stacked high with with glasses, jugs and plates. There was almost nowhere to sit due to the filth. I have worked at many pubs in my time and if I ever let the tables get into this state I would have been fired on the spot. Disgusting from a well established chain.

The place was filthy. Food was OK. Took ages for the drinks to arrive, even after talking to a manager. I'd rather go to Georges Meeting Place or The Imperial

Waited an eternity for drinks ordered from the app. Gave up in the end and went to collect from the bar. Unfortunately I had to join a long queue of other people who were also waiting for their app drinks. Whilst I was doing that I must have missed the food I ordered because that never arrived. I gave up in the end and went somewhere else. Worst spoons experience I have ever had and I’m out of pocket because of it. The pub didn’t even seem that busy.

Been here multiple times now . Each time drinks take over 20 minutes to arrive, I’d expect this if it was busy, but when it’s it’s clearly quiet and I’m waiting that long it’s crazy. I’m from Ilfracombe and if we order a drink it’s on your table within 2 minutes.

Beer OK but what a dump. Plenty of staff but whole place was a mess. Nobody clearing tables and plates of half eaten food everywhere. Staff just walking backwards and forwards straight past them. Needs a shift leader/manager!

Unfortunately I had to frequent this establishment due to a business meetup. Was hoping for a better visit but alas the pub manager Craig is still there, running this establishment into the ground. What happened to the staff? ... they all look like they didn't want to be there, but I am unsurprised with the manager they have trying to run the place!! Terrible. Please sack the manager and get the decent, friendly staff back!!

1 bar staff member only serving at the time we visited, so she was under pressure and it was busy. However she completely ignored us when we told her we were next to be served after a lady in front of us. She served the lady first and then despite us saying we were next she ignored us and served someone else. When we pointed out that we had been next she tutted and said she was serving him as he’d been in the pub a while. She was surly and when I asked if there was a bar upstairs she was rude and curt. My friends and I left and went elsewhere where we were welcome. Would not visit again and would not recommend

It's a Wetherspoons! Beer and food are nice and cheap - I've never had a bad pint at Wetherspoons, and the good will never win any awards, but you know what you're going to get and it's always reasonable quality for a good price.

Ordered a pizza which arrived burnt & had hardly any cheese so I sent it back. It was replaced with a still burnt pizza (although less burnt than previous) and still hardly any cheese. Manager explained there is less cheese used now, fair enough, but they were STILL 2 burnt pizzas. They said because I only said about the cheese on the 2nd one they can't refund me, I hadn't only said about the cheese either time I said specifically "burnt AND hardly any cheese" BOTH TIMES. Managed to take a pic of the second one they wouldn’t let me take a pic of the first - they said they can’t refund me because the amount of cheese was correct - I said that’s fine but they were still BOTH burnt - they accepted the first pizza was burnt but not the second when it’s clearly still burnt - brown and cheese dry from being burnt. They still refused. I was on my lunch break from work so I went without any lunch because this happened/took my full lunch hour. Been too many Wetherspoons and usually i enjoy them. Get what you pay for. The Chevalier inn though was by far the worst Wetherspoons I have been too. The place was empty and they still couldn’t serve us correctly. Staff were very rude. The curry came out with the rice still in the microwave bag. The pasta was cold and had to be returned twice! Our drinks came when we had already ate our food. When we asked if we could have some cutlery we were told “I’ve only got 2 hands” with a lot of attitude. There’s a reason why it was empty as other Wetherspoons are always busy.

This is a cozy (ish) Spoons where the food can be a bit hit and miss sometimes .. but it's generally pretty good. The pub does have an open fire, plenty of seating (with a large upstairs seating area) .. there is some outside seating but we have never sat there as we are not smokers. Like all Wetherspoons it can get very busy due to its location in Exeter so sometimes it might be worth walking down to George's Meeting Room. The drinks are a bargain though with all you can stomach coffee/tea/hot chocolate.

8 of us went here today was advised to order on line.waited 40 mins for our drinks and gave up and went to get them.but after waiting an hour and a half for a mini chocolate brownie (and three visits to the bar to ask why) we gave up got our money back and left .don't go here disgusting dirty and the poor staff are overwhelmed.

Very dark, children allowed to run around in areas where hot food and drink are being served. Was offered a coffee in a paper cup because "We've ran out of mugs". No, at least THIRTY left uncollected on tables along with used crockery/cutlery. Best avoid this place until Staff up thier game by about 100%.

You get cheap drinks, very cheap but a long wait at the bar with staff chattng and trying to find a table to sit at that wasn't cluttered with dirty plates proved impossible. But the drinks are cheap!

Food is good for its price, staff were very helpful, in particular Ash - he saw a part of my table's order that wasn't sent out and checked up on it, meaning I didn't need to wait any longer. Ash a real one :)

Took most of an hour for a pizza and a drink. Had to ask where it all was, then carry my own drink after ordering on the app. Pizza wasn't what I ordered. No apology from waiter. Complete waste of time. Pathetic

Stopped at Exeter on way back from Cornwall and went in on the off chance. Floor was really sticky and so was the service. I ordered on the app. The drink cartoon for my son had something brown and sticky on, so I asked at the bar for a replacement, it wasn’t much better so I had to wipe it. The waitress who brought the food out had a bowl of chips sat on-top of the child’s spaghetti bolognaise. My wife ordered the burrito salad bowl (with chilli con carne) but the chilli never arrived. When we mentioned this the staff went and had a conversation with what appeared to be his manager, he then came over with a receipt and questioned our order, once i showed him the order email on my phone he apologised at stated that they would refund us for the chilli, and that would go straight back onto my card. Almost a week later and no refund has appeared. To top it all off their ‘funky’ toilets upstairs were full of midges flying everywhere. Disgusting feel to the place and the staff did not really seem to care. I know weather-spoons are cheap and cheerful but this was cheap and disgusting

After spending a couple of hours in this pub we were appalled by the cleanliness of ground floor. At no point were tables cleared of glasses or meal plates. We could see this was due to lack of staff. We were served by a very pleasant member of staff who only had one pair of hands and was trying her best to serve as quick as possible but with no back up, had to get wine from pump from upstairs as not available on ground bar. This is unexceptionable and deserves your attention. It’s obvious extra staff is needed. GEORGES Meeting house knocks spots off of The Chevalier.

very dissatisfied with the pasta here, my friend got a normal portion of pasta and it came in 50 mins and it was only about 10 spoonfuls if that being generous, also cant smoke in the beer garden, what is the point of having a beer garden if you can’t smoke in it. not hating just educating xx

It's a wetherspoons, you get what you expect. Good outside seating areas though. Unfortunately they had run out of chicken so I couldn't have the wrap I wanted or the southern fried basket as second choice. But it's reasonably priced and you can order from your phone which we love.

Why is it so difficult to scramble eggs ? All it takes is a bowl and a fork. And not burn toast ? I ate what I could as in a hurry.

Absolute shambles. Josh behind the bar had no idea what was going on. Ordered on app and it never turned up even though I went up and told him 3 times and he kept telling me they were not their way. Been robbed by the place bought 4 pitchers and shots that never arrived. Avoid at all costs!

Unfortunately whilst taking my 80 year old mum into this venue I don't think I can persuade her of the value for money wetherspoons are renowned for. As we are on a tight budget we decided on this venue as she wanted to treat me.We sat at three different tables which were all sticky and had food debris on them .The carpet was also sticky .When going to the bar I leant over as bar staff were chatting ,so they could see me , to get service and was covered in beer.At this pointI decided that we should leave and eat else where .I have worked in this industry for over 30 years and not one to complain, but cleanliness is always top priority.

It use to be a nice friendly play to go with family but under a mew manager gow was rude and arrogant the friendly staff that use to greet you are not there enymore shame could have been so much more than the sham it has become its disgusting how the manager Craig speaks to i customers and bitching about staff then getting rid of them for not being in his delusional little bubble

Quality of food was standard for a weatherspoons as well as prices for food and drink. Atmosphere again, was standard for a weatherspoons however seemed to be a few locals propping up the bar now and again. Spread over a few floors with outside terrace however smokers must smoke on the street out front where there are no ashtrays. Not a welcoming site upon arrival

My mother went for lunch with a friend. The Manager, by the name of Craig, was rude and obnoxious. She was made to feel very unwelcome and will not return after spending many years meeting up with friends there. I did warn her to go to The Imperial instead though!

Advertise pride event - advertise drag dj and drag act reality … depressed looking staff who looked like they been forced to dress up… A “dj” on a laptop who looked more at their phone than the dance floor and when I requested 2 songs … didn’t have but “don’t worry I’ll try and YouTube them”. The drag act 20 minutes late - stopped the music altogether and then just walked around the pub …. Whole pub is a shambles … bring back REAL DJ James!!! Only best bit of my evening was watching the doorstaff restrain a trouble maker on the dance floor - well done then as caused minimal fuss!

Got there about 1pm found seat ordered on app drinks came about 10mins later food came about 50 mins later ,that was only I spoke to a manager) I think ) lovely lady who was having trouble talking to the kitchen don't think they didn't want to talk to her . She came with food a few minutes later piping hot and tasted lovely .

This place sucks. I was outside having a vape, and I saw a barman taking my drink off the table. I went inside, to try and save it, but I got told "You left it, you loose it" I agree with all the negative reviews on here, it's a horrible place, with the most unfriendly doormen you'd ever meet. A couple of weeks ago, they wouldn't even let me go in to change my baby. "It's past 6pm, so They're is no one under 16 allowed" It was 18:15, and all I wanted to do was change my babies nappy, but they wouldn't let me. It's A horrible place. Avoid like the plague.

Worst spoons I haver ever been in, bothe myself and my friend served flat beer from rude staff, after I tried to return the pint to the bar I was kept waiting before bring confronted by the rudest manager I have ever met, telling me that there was nothing wrong with my beer (this is after my friends one had been replaced, which was a saga of redness in itself). I left without consuming more then a sip of an awful pint, whilst being accused of being deliberately awkward. All I wanted was a quiet lunch time pint with my mate, never ever would I step foot in this place again and as for the ginger heard barman, he shouldn't be in a public serving job

Lovely central pub ..staff are friendly and knowledgeable enjoyed a thursday afternoon with some wonderful real ales ...

I know there is a shortage of staff but if they were more organised tables could be cleared. When they deliver food they should takeaway empty plates n glasses with them. Staff were friendly
