We visited Coastline Fish & Chip Restaurant today after a break of almost two months. It is one of our favourite's and we have been going there for many years. The quality & quantity of food have never been a problem - until today! We ordered the Coastline Special (Cod & Chips) and were surprised when it was served with only half the amount of chips we would normally receive. We questioned this with our server and she referred us to the Supervisor. The Supervisor advised us that, in order to keep costs down, the owners have decided to reduce the portion size of the chips. The Supervisor then apologised and said there is nothing she could do. There weren't enough chips to go with the cod that was on the plate. The customers on the next table even commented and said they thought the portion of chips look like a child's portion. What will the owners do next - reduce the size of the cod too? In my opinion, if the margins are that tight that they can't afford to serve a normal size portion of chips with the meal, then there is something drastically wrong with their business model. And they did increase the price last year in any event! All in all, a very disappointing meal that I had been looking forward to. I don't think that I will be hurrying back any time soon.

Delicious food Clean Service quick and very polite

Came here between Christmas and new years with a friend and had never been before. It’s quite wide open with lots of space which is nice. The menu is wide and extensive and reasonably priced. When you order you pay up front which makes it nice and easy - waiting around after eating is always a pain! We got the fish and chips for £16.50 and you get a side, and a drink, and a small bread roll and butter. The haddock and chips was delicious. So good I could have eaten ten of them. The bathrooms are nice and clean as well which always helps! This is a great restaurant and if you’re looking for good fish and chips then this is the place to be!

Really excellent restaurant where the food is second to none

My wife made me come here as she said it was excellent, but I would class it as ‘alright’. It was very busy, and someone who works there decided to seat his 5 kids on the table next to us. All they did was scream. The food was average, they were stingy with the chips and the fish was rather tasteless. The batter was very nice though, as were the mushy peas. I did like the fact they charged you when you order at the table, so no waiting around for the bill. More places should do this. Service was below average, no smiles and the lady who seated us seemed like she wanted to be anywhere else. They didn’t give us milk for our pot of tea and we got told it was with all the condiments up at the front. But….no milk so we had to ask again. To be fair the guy with the kids noticed and shook his head at the server. I would say £33 for our food was not really worth the money, so I won’t be rushing back.

The fish was nice, but small, half the size of my local, chips were nice, but yet again small portion and the bread bun, well a seagull would swallow it in one go, it's been eighteen months since I was here, and nothing has changed, so it's going to be my last. The staff were very friendly and the place was nice and fresh. But at these prices for the amount you are served, i feel it's not worth it.

I'm beyond annoyed with this place the food was very average the portions are feckin tiny I payed like £13.00 g For mingey little chicken strips that are frozen out of a bag and 2 sausage's... I really cannot compair the food to the price below average and way over price they could surely give some extra chicken strips for £6 quid fuming I was don't bother going here for food a right kip 😡😡😡😡😡

Great place for a catch up, cuppa etc

This place has gone downhill so much over the years. Used to be the best chippy around now shocking. Chips barely cooked and all bruised and barely peeled. Won’t be going back sadly.service was terrible also, older lady who serviced us was miserable and messed up the order.

Food was phenomenal, really nice and didn’t take too long to come, weren’t asked if everything was ok, weren’t asked if we needed anything else, forgot the curry sauce :(, probably won’t go again but the pie was tasty and the fish bites were ginormous. Wanted to box the food up to take home, nobody approached us - kind of just stood around looking blankly at eachother and customers.

Very disappointed with very cold dry cod and chips. The fish looked beautiful and I'm sure it would have tasted delicious had it been freshly cooked to my order. We have bought these fish and chips on many occasions and they have always been delicious. At £28 for cod and chips and 1 portion of peas not cheap. Will we risk it again not sure to be honest.

I came here on Saturday night for something to eat whilest watching the fireworks, and it has made my whole family ill, as soon as i ate the food it went straight through me, everyone in my family are I’ll complaining that they have stomach cramps and needing the toilet will not be coming back, clearly food wasn’t cooked properly or food hygiene was bad not worth £40 at all

Since the redevelopment of blyth beach, the area has had such an improvement. A great place to pass a couple of hours of your day or night.

Great service and parking there is good and free. Both chippy and ice cream ,coffee.etc.

Really disappointed. Ordered fishcake chips and a bread bun. With tar tar sauce. No tar tar sauce and the bread bun was mouldy. Called to complain to be told they would give me the 80p back for the bun. totally put off given that I had eaten half of the bun before I noticed. Shocking really. Ruined the entire meal but no offer to refund that!

Delicious huge cod n chips with choice of side dish and pot of tea, friendly efficientstaff. I come often, then get an ice-cream after and walk to the sea to eat it whole looking for seals

Chips need some life breathing into them unfortunately chips where white and not crispy 😒

Lovely “beach food” experience, with fantastic staff! If you’re looking for a real Geordi Saturday afternoon lunch, they offer a really good fish and chips (cod)! Freshly fried in a light batter, with REALLY good chips on the side, the plate was truly a good value - it was a HUGE piece of fish!

Visited on multiple occasions and each time the food is exceptionally tasty, the fish is wonderfully chunky. Highly recommend a visit. The milkshakes are lovely too.

Not recommended. Very expensive for the amount served. When ordering fish and chips, they are priced separately. First time visit, definitely the last.

What's the point of fish and chips in a box but you have to pick up your own salt and vinegar on the way out, reopening the box to have to close it again, why can't you add some like every chippy since chips were invented. Poor service, fish and chips ok, but Broadway a short distance away is much better.

Food here is lush, I recommend the cod or the chicken burgers! Bit pricey but I guess everywhere is these days. The ice cream on the other hand is second to none! Absolutely lush 😍

The battered cod was really good, just the right amount of chips too, though, I’ve had better chips. I agree they are at the top price point for a portion of fish and chips, especially as it was takeaway but you make the choice to buy them at that price so you can’t moan. The food was a bit slow, there was no one else waiting for food to takeaway but that’s likely due to food going out to the restaurant. Would be nice to see a mini fish and chips on the menu (not a kids menu item) for people that don’t have such a big appetite.

You can eat in here, but I had takeaway Plaice and chips. Poor value at £11.20. The fish was breadcrumbed and tasteless. Even loads of salt and vinegar could not lift it. The chips were anaemic and equally tasteless. A half lemon woukd have been nice. Too complacent due to thier location next to the beach I think. Cannot recommend.

It can get a bit busy during peak times so you have to wait for your food, but it means it fresh. Food portions are okay, but not fantastic. The one single bad thing is it's become very popular and commercial so the atmosphere it used to have is no longer there.

Average fish and chips, extracting the urine with the price £16.80 for cod and chips and a drink. No lie I can get 2 portions of fish and chips in around Bury for that no bull. Taking the p£%s

Thought the price a bit high at first at £26, HOWEVER, after we both thoroughly enjoyed the excellent portions and quality - it was worth every penny!. Only visiting area otherwise would definitely be a regular customer. 5 🌟.

Ridiculously expensive. Food really wasn't anything special, just a very busy place in an ideal location so people use it for convenience.

Great spot for a sit down fish and chips meal. We ate fish bites and the haddock which came hot and crispy with lovely batter. We shared the chips and still had plenty. Also on offer are breakfast stotties and other breakfast items at a great price. It’s always busy which tells you what you need to know. Great ice cream shop next door too

Ironically have been past this place for years but never got a chance to stop and try it till the other week. Astonishing chips, and reminds me of an awesome chippy that I used to go to at the fish quay, love their chip butties, perfect portions, perfect buns, really good price and just awesome, gonna try to stop here more often now.

Very impressed with the fish and chips from here, big portions, a well priced special and tasty ice cream for afterwards. The only, tiny little downside, is the vinegar. It’s not quite ‘chip shop’ vinegar more like Sarsons. Change this and it will be perfect!

We sat in the new terrace out the back which was really smart. This was ideal as we needed somewhere quiet to sit. All the staff were very friendly and so helpful. Food is always amazing here, our favourite place for fish n chips. Thank you for making our visit stress free and very much enjoyed.

Very busy but the staff were working fast. So it was £10 just for haddock then £3 odd for chips and £3 for mince pie ( a little expensive). . The fish was very nice as was the batter.

Not the cheapest however if you want the best in my view this is definitely the place quality has not changed in 10 years and you can sit on the prom overlooking the beach, weather permitting obviously. This is my chippy treat!!!!

Seating is perfect for what this place is. A proper seaside chippy. As for the food I was expecting a huge plate full of mediocre chips, instead I got just enough which were perfectly cooked. I chose to have a jumbo sausage and again I wasn't disappointed. For those with a sweet tooth they also sell fresh ice cream for desert. Well worth a stop off on your way to the likes of Alnwick, Cresswell perhaps.

Went for takeaway, I had chips and curry sauce, wife had fish bites and boys had chicken nuggets and chips. Only down side is boys only got 3 small nuggets which for the cost was so so.

Ate takeaway fish & chips (kids) for lunch and we have felt unwell since. It didn't say what type of 'fish' it was but the only fish that makes us feel unwell is Basa! I won't be buying again as I've lost trust. Haddock or cod fine.

Really nice atmosphere and a popular place, had no problem being seated despite how busy it was. A bit of a wait for food and drink which came out sporadically rather than all together. Service from staff was great though so not fussed about it at all. Food was great so happy all round.

We visit coastline as a family all the time to sit in and takeaway. Myself and partner always share a large fish, chips & mushy peas today we had around 9 chips on the plate my child’s chicken nuggets and chips had the same amount of chips on. Spoke with a supervisor who initially talked over me to chat to my 2 year old about the fork she was showing her whilst I was discussing the lack of chips. She proceeded to do this again which made it clear she wasn’t interested, when I carried on talking about the portion size. I said we’ve always shared a large meal she said they’re a standard portion and it’s a meal for 1 my partner said it a large fish and chips she said it’s the fish you pay for my partners response was yes but not with a child’s portion of chips and she said well you must’ve got lucky last time and walked away. No apology and no customer service or people skills very rude. Left really deflated and annoyed as we’ve always loved coming here. Regretted not taking a picture I was too annoyed to think about it until we left.

Had around a 10 minute wait for a seat as it was quite busy, staff were amazing and never stopped. Fish and chips were top class and cooked to perfection 👌 Nice clean restaurant area and toilets were immaculate and free parking which is a bonus. Well worth a trip out
