Very good choice of food including oysters. Everything was great! Perfect place to celebrate birthday!

Exceptional Japanese dinner. Jack provided great service. The menu was very varied with authentic Japanese food - full bar with sakis. The food was outstanding - best sushi I have ever had. Edgy, contemporary atmosphere. The only issue was the music. It ranged from mellow 70s soft rock - which we liked, to head banging disco. Highly recommend.

Had a wonderful meal at Cognito on Friday evening. Each dish was cooked and prepared perfectly, everything was really delicious. The staff were all really friendly and helpful, and took extra care to ensure there were no issues with allergies. Wish I lived locally so I could come back every week!

Always my absolute favourite please to eat in Lincoln, food is always lovely and the girls that work in there are so bubbly and bright they make the experience what it is!

Went with a group and had one of their set menus, thought it looked expensive, but got value for money with the amount of dishes. The food is very tasty and dishes not tried before. The dishes came in waves, so gave us time to eat through them before the next.

I went here for my birthday as i had been eager to go for a while but sadly it was a disappointing trip. I had received an email to say i could have a free birthday cocktail but it wasn't until the bill arrived that we were told it was only specific cocktails (none of which had been ordered). We asked for table water and didn't receive any and in general the service was just ok. The food is overpriced and unfortunately not very good. The cocktails, however, were delicious so if you're after a cocktail i would recommend, but don't waste your money on the food.

I’m a big mixology lover and this is one of my top Lincoln spots for proper cocktails! This was my first time actually eating at Cognito and I was not disappointed! My friend and I ordered the 40 piece Omakase where the chef prepares everything for you as a surprise! We loved it so much we ordered more off the menu. Supervisor on shift Jada-Leigh contacted us before our booking to confirm details of our Omakase experience, and was so lovely to chat to, always attentive and smiling. I didn’t catch the name of the young man bartending but his drinks were excellent, even when I asked for an experimental drink! The bartenders never disappoint!

I've been here twice and am taking friends along this Wednesday as i can't recommend the food, staff or ambience enough and i want them to share the experience. Everything I've eaten was just amazing. Thank you Cognito.

Tapas style Asian fusion, share 2-3 dishes each (and leave room for dessert if you can). Too many good dishes on the menu to list here, but have yet to be disappointed by a dish after 3 visits. The cocktails are nice and imaginative, too

First of all - service and staff is great. Friendly and attentive. But sadly this is overshadowed by the overpriced bland food. The sushi was ice cold and tasted nothing but the sauce. Rice was grainy and had the same texture as sushi from the gas station. Bao was better with a decent bread. But same thing here. It tastes Nothing! It’s just way overpriced for such a low quality. And on top of that they include a ”service charge ” for nearly 10%. They do say that it’s optional to pay it. But come on. Who includes tip in the price and then says you can remove it if you like? Pay your staff a decent amount instead and let the customer add tip if they want. First, last and only visit for me.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share why I keep coming back to this spot. Simply put, they’ve got it all — food, drinks, and atmosphere. Huge kudos to the chefs, bartenders, front-of-house staff, and of course, the wonderful owners who make it all happen. I’ve never been disappointed, and last night was no exception. The food was absolutely spectacular, with the new dishes and drinks being some of the best I’ve had yet. The addition of raw oysters is a must-try, and the beef is outstanding. Cognito, you are hands-down the best dining spot in the heart of town. You’re also the only place that knows how to make a balanced margarita! 😛 If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and get down there. It’s a real treat. Best wishes!

I came for dinner my birthday. We all love sushi, and after living in London for 20 years, I missed good sushi restaurants. Cognito was recommended by a friend, so i decided to give it a try. The service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. My tried one of their fantastic in house designed cocktails, which was absolutely delicious. The best I have had outside London. We all ordered many dishes of the menu The dragon role, pork belly and the sashimi were fantastic. Sushi is an art, known for its clean, precise preparation and perfectly balanced flavors. The chef at Cognito is clearly dedicated to mastering this craft. The rice in the sushi was light and delicate, providing a wonderful base for the dishes. The fillet beef in the Gyoza was rich and flavorful, and while they were deep-fried, this added a delightful crunch that we thoroughly enjoyed. The dipping sauce had a subtle flavor that complemented the Gyoza perfectly. The fillet beef sushi. The fish and chip role also needs to be tried All I can say is that Coginto is now a firm favourite and I go to Coginto at least once a week, I love coming for the lunch menu which is the best value ever, if this restaurant was in London there would be queues around the block, at only 20 quid you get some awesome dishes, and you get to choose from a house wine or soft drink, two dishes from the lunch menu served with miso soup and rice. I normally have the 6pc sushi omakase and chicken skewers. I also love the non alcoholic cocktails, designed Lucas are just the best. As far as I am concerned Cognito is the best place to eat and drink in Lincoln

Food ok but small portions so poor value got money

The food, the service and the following drinks on the rooftop bar were absolutely top notch for a date night. The sushi as well as the Japanese inspired dishes were punchy and fresh, and the browny for pudding was a great full stop to the meal. The cocktails upstairs were tasty and refreshing twists on classic drinks. Thank you Jade for the excellent cocktail guidance and creation. The quality of the night here was well worth the very reasonable price tag.

This is one of the top restaurants in Lincoln. The staff are very professional. Food is of an exceptional quality with flavour. If you are looking for something different and are happy to try new foods give this venue a shot. We have been a few times now and they hit the same consistency each visit. Nothing short of exceptional.

I had an incredible time at Cognito’s Disney Drag Bottomless Brunch! The atmosphere was electric, and the entertainment was on point. The performers really brought the magic with their Disney-themed acts, and it was such a fun twist on brunch. The bottomless drinks were flowing, and the service was excellent—attentive and friendly throughout. It’s the perfect spot to go with friends if you’re looking for a lively, unforgettable experience. Went here a few weeks back with my partner. The food was lovely! We ordered Dragon roll and pork belly (best pork belly ever!). Our waitress Jada was polite and attentive, nothing was too much for her! Would strongly recommend coming here for excellent food, great service and a fantastic atmosphere

Me and my partner came here last night. I’ve been in the past but not for a couple of years. The customer service was exceptional and the food doesn’t disappoint. This restaurant conveys they value their customers through attentiveness in the service and the food is of a high standard and presentation! The pork belly dish and the bao buns are amazing! We user the cocktail bar upstairs and it was amazing. The atmosphere was excellent and chilled, the staff were knowledgeable of the cocktails and made great recommendations. I didn't catch the name of the barman on the late evening on 30th August but he was polite and made our drinks perfectly. When there was some confusion with one of the ingredients, he explained it to us and has left a great impression of the service here. We'll definitely be coming back to try the last 3 cocktails we didn't get! Thank you for making our night amazing!

We visited Lincoln for the Steampunk festival. Four great days. The highlight though was our final meal at Cognito. Amazing rooftop restaurant. Great food. Above all, customer attention by Mia, our host was exceptional. Thank you Cognito and especially, thank you Mia.

Amazing food and service! My husband and I went with our 2 children aged 8 and 10 this evening, our children loved it. Couldn’t find a single fault with any dish and our server Mia was fantastic and really made the evening! My son Rudi was especially excited to see that blood orange was on the menu, he will order anything with it in. Such a refined palette for a 10 year old. 🤣 We will be back soon.

!!!!!!!!! Terrible service !!!!!! We have spend there £70 and the lady messed up our order with someone else. So we been giving wrong food, then I had to wait long time for the correct one to come which my friend already finished hers. She apologised after saying Sorry which it wasn’t enough, when you spending £70 in restaurant you want your food in correct order and not being messed up. not even offer us 10-20% off the bill or free drink!!!!!!! Never again !!!!! Terrible terrible service

One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Such a hidden gem. I came here on a date night and we shared several sushi plates. I recommend the salmon maki and the gyoza in particular. They were delicious. Every dish was beautifully presented, and the flavour combinations were exceptional. The bar had a great atmosphere and the bill was a lot less than we expected as it turned out we had arrived during Aperitivo Hour (4pm-7pm) and cocktails were only 2 for £12! Delicious food and exceptional service. 10/10 would recommend. Can't wait to visit again and try more of their sushi! :)

My partner and I came here for the first time, we sat on the rooftop bar for our food and goodness me the food certainly delivers upon expectation. The portions don’t look like a lot but they soon fill you up. The variety and quality of the food is some of the best we’ve ever had. Service was amazing and the woman serving us couldn’t have been more welcoming and inviting. All round a very enjoyable experience, we’ll be coming back very soon.

Delicious Japanese food with lots of vegan options

The attitude from the bar staff was terrible it was my first time and last coming here. Me and my friend came for the offer 2 4 1 cocktails last night (friday), the lady behind the bar immediately tells us NO! we don't do that, my friend shows her a screenshot of the menu to which she goes "FINE! I'll do it" with a disgusted face... sorry for asking you to do your job? I wanted to leave at that point but we thought we'd give her the benefit of the doubt and stay for a couple... we didn't even taste our drinks properly and she looks us up and down and says "ARE YOU GONNA PAY NOW??.. or you can open a tab 🙄". I was just thinking... what's this girls problem? Also spoke to some people who were there on the same day and said they were also rushed... which is crazy cause the bar was dead. No wonder. Won't be returning.

Beautiful decor and ambience wasn't wowed by the food and pretty expensive for Lincoln and quite an acquired taste. We had to send back the sirloin skewers as they were cold but we had to ask if they were supposed to be like that. We also got pork belly which we didn't ask for and was honest and was took away 🤣 dessert was delicious I had the Eton mess witha cognito twist. Calamari & veg udon noodles were my favourite. We were the only booth apart from one service was attentive but not over powering.

Came here for my husbands birthday. Food and drinks were superb. Our waitress Jada was really attentive and friendly. Jack did a great job advising on drinks and made a custom cocktail for us suited to our taste. Couldn't recommend more!!

My friend and I popped in on a Friday night for the 8 piece sushi and glass of champagne deal (£18). The sushi was so great, we ended up trying the gyoza and bao bun too alongside a bottle of prosecco. Amy was training new staff and role modelling what excellent service looks like so a huge thank you to her. We can’t wait to return! 🍱🍣

We visited Cognito for my partner’s birthday today & had a lovely time! We’ve been looking for a sushi restaurant to go to & weren’t disappointed. The food was lovely & service was great. We were advised that food comes out as ready, and were quickly served all of our food within 15 minutes. My partner was even given a birthday card with a token to redeem a free drink on a future visit. The desserts were my favourite part of the meal; I highly recommend the ice cream cake & mochi! Thank you to the lovely team at Cognito for a fab evening!

Have been here on a few occasions and always had a great time - most recently I held a party in the rooftop terrace and Mia was amazing at handling everything for us, even accommodating last minute changes and dietary needs. We also got a menu of custom cocktails, which was AMAZING. Would definitely recommend this venue for small-medium parties!

AMAZING FOOD! I can’t stress enough how beautiful and fresh the food is from here. I don’t particularly like Japanese/asian food but after hearing really good things I thought I would give it a try and most definitely was not disappointed! The service was really good and efficient and the 2 owners could not do more for us. I’ve been for dinner, drinks and events and everytime it exceeds my expectations…if you’re looking for somewhere classy, luxurious and affordable I would suggest you choose here.

A fantastic evening was had by all the family, at the start of the evening we were greeted by lovely staff who directed us to our seats and recomended we try some of the cognitos designed cocktails, best I have had outside of London. The food was equally impressive and the atmosphere was a nice level of vibrant. All in all an excellent evening l no place better in Lincoln.

I joined Cognito's team as a Bar Back/Food Runner position around a year and a half ago and moved up to becoming a waiter after 6 months. Since leaving I have felt they deserve an honest and true review of my time there given that I was able to take on the full experience. To start with, the owners Zara and Ellie are the most lovely and compassionate people I have ever had the privilege of working with. Their commitment and care to their craft and business really do show. I can promise you if you encounter them on a trip to Cognito you will leave with absolute joy and satisfaction. The staff at Cognito are some of the best people around. The floor team are such kind and loving people they make your experience at Cognito feel so welcoming and comfortable. The kitchen team are always cooking up something extra tasty and spectacular, they truly all have a gift for their craft and the food will not disappoint. Special thanks to Darren head chef for always putting a smile on everyone's faces with both his food and humour. Cocktails are part of Cognito's speciality and that is nothing but the truth. Head of Bar Lucas is one of the most dedicated and inspiring personnel I've ever seen, his brilliant and diverse cocktails he and his team bring together with new cocktail menus on the regular never fall short of greatness. So a special props to him and if you come to try these cocktails you will know exactly what I'm talking about. Cognito is a place of commitment and care for the customers. Where your needs and desires set, they are always met. Moving forward in my career I most definitely am going to have a really hard time finding a position that beats the love and commitment that everyone at Cognito showed me. Honestly, I can say open- heartedly, that Cognito is one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had. The staff are extremely welcoming and clearly devoted to their jobs and the food is genuinely well crafted and made by people with experience. I recommend this restaurant to anyone including family, friends and couples. Will be returning :)

We visited earlier this month and took my parents to celebrate a birthday. My parents had never been before and everything was explained to them by the waitress. We had an amazing time. Service was fantastic and the food was great. It certainly caters for everyone. To top it off the cocktails were some of the best we have had. Would strongly recommend to anyone to give it a try. We will certainly be back.

Disappointed. Very expensive food that was good, but only good. Very loud music, tables, menus, cutlery all needed a bloody good clean. Alcohol free cocktails were delicious. No, I wouldn't go back.

Visited for our daughter18th birthday and very disappointed with the food. Had to pre order as there was 10 of us, we ordered a set menu for 8 meat/fish and 2 vegan. No vegan noodle brought to the table, 2 portions of duck noodles to share between 8 people and no dessert brought until we asked, then had a spicy sticky toffee pudding that had been cut into 6 pieces stuck in the middle of the table with no plates for family/friends to share. Certainly not worth the £380 price tag for food alone.

There were 10 of us tonight who attended for an 18th birthday. As we were a big party we had to have a set menu at £36pp, there were 2 vegetarians at£46 pp. No way was the food worth the money. The amount of food that the vegetarians got was very poor. We had to keep asking for things that had been advertised on the menu. I would not recommend it.

I’ve previously left a 5 star review as I’ve visited a few times and had a great experience but after last night I don’t think we will return again. We had booked a table for 8pm, upon arrival they didn’t have a table for us and told us to come back later, there was nowhere to sit and wait as there was a wedding on downstairs. Our table was ready at 8.35pm, I know it’s only half an hour late but when we have paid a babysitter to look after our children we are on a time schedule which is why we booked a table. We got seated and ordered our food and drinks, we ordered a few dishes, one was prawn tempura which never arrived, we had to ask for this to be removed from the bill. We ordered “birthday ice cream” which was completely inedible, it was rock solid we couldn’t get our spoons in to eat it. We asked for the bill 3 times and it took 25 minutes to come, again this wouldn’t usually be much of an issue but as our table was nearly 40 minutes late we was worried about time. I just want to add that the waitress was really apologetic and nice and the food was nice. I went to the toilets as we left and there was white dust all over the side with rolled up paper discarded next to it and empty drinks all over and tissue on the floor. Unfortunately myself and my husband was awake in the night being sick, we ordered 8 dishes and both tried each others so we aren’t sure what it was but overall was a really bad experience and really disappointing. If you are hosting a wedding, maybe don’t have your restaurant open at the same time. Really disappointed as we have enjoyed visiting in the past.

I’ve been to cognito many times now and I can honestly say it’s become one of my most favourite restaurants/ bars! The drinks are always amazing (special shout out to them as they are one of the few places that offer white port!). The bar staff are always really helpful in recommending drinks and there seems to be a signature cocktail for everyone! There has never been a dish that I haven’t loved (and I’ve worked my way through the menu). For sushi my favourite is the dragon roll and my favourite large dish has the be the cognito chicken (chicken 6 ways)! You can tell the staff/ owners put so much into creating both the food and drink menus. The staff have always delivered the best service and nothing has ever been too much trouble for any of them. Cognito has a warm, friendly atmosphere with a great vibe. Always look forward to my visits!

Fantastic date night. Food was delicious, cocktails superb, atmosphere spot on and service faultless! This venue is a great addition to Lincoln with high-end yet affordable dining and the little touches have not been forgotten such as our ‘happy anniversary’ card left on the table. From being warmly greeted at the door, having table service with a great attitude to the professionally and expertise flowing throughout, we had a memorably delightful evening and will be returning to try the rest of the menu! Food and cocktails so good they deserve awards

Was very much looking forward to dinner at Incognito as sushi is my fave. However, to my disappointment sushi was absolutely tasteless. My friend who is vegetarian ordered some veggie sushi and I ordered salmon plus prawn sushi. It was all served on one plate which i think was very inconsiderate. Plus it took ages to get the food served. Overall its overpriced for what it is. In my opinion preboxed Wasabi or even Waitrose sushi tastes much better. Would not go back to this place again.

Had heard great things about Cognito, but was really disappointed after dining there with friends. Now they say the food arrives when ready BUT when 3 of the 4 people have eaten all their small and large dishes and 1 person hasn't even had a dish after 45 minutes then the whole meal and atmosphere is poor. I sat and waited while everyone ate , mine finally arrived, a small dish, after 45 minutes and then the large dish after an hour . The first plate arrived after 10 minutes so why the 50 minute delay? The place was almost empty . The music was too loud and the staff were inexperienced and surly. A complete letdown and will never return or recommend. Even the food was below average.

Great food, fantastic and friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere to relax into. Will definitely go again and recommend as a must eat in Lincoln.

This may be the only restaurant in town that serves sushi (I think 🤔). For the fresh big plate of sushi, I have to book in advance. The food was ok, been to other sushi restaurants that are a bit better, so couldn't rate more for that. The portion is a bit smaller than I expected. The staff were welcoming and helpful. They have a nice rooftop bar area. The internal decoration is catchy and would be good for celebrations, dating, or similar occasions. Could be busy later at night.
