Comptoir Libanais in Exeter

Really not a good experience at all, we waited ages to even be asked did we want drinks, my sons starter was ‘forgotten’ then 2 meals were brought to us & after a few minutes taken back as it was for another table who came in ages after us we then waited & waited to eventually be brought our meals, the chicken on the mixed grill was so dry I could only eat one piece & I had to wash that down with water & for £15 the tagine was a pathetic portion served in & cracked/chipped bowl then we waited that long to get the bill we just paid on our way out! Was definitely not my first bad experience so will not be going back!!!!

During my family first visit to Exeter, we decided to give this restaurant a try and honestly one of the best decisions we’ve made, can’t recommend this place enough. The food, the service, the atmosphere all were great. The blonde waitress (forgot to ask her name) was really quick and really polite and gave us some very good food recommendations. As a student showing around my family this city, you cannot go wrong with this restaurant! Really recommend trying out lamb kofta tagine We enjoyed the food so much that I only managed to take pictures of the desserts, honestly one of the most delicious and friendly places in Exeter

Our lunch was served cold, the restaurant was understaffed and the door is left open on a winter's day is far from ideal 👎

I don't usually give less then 4 stars to any restaurants unless it lacked in several things in one sitting. First of all the table we sat on was very sticky, clearly the table wasn't wiped clean since the last serving. Luckily i had some baby wipes on my kids changing bag and we cleaned the table ourselves. Waiter disappeared for good 5-7 minutes and no one asked for the drinks. So we decided to order everything at once after waving couple of times to get the waiters attention. Food came out in reasonable time, chips was £4.50 and i don't think there was more then 18-20 pieces on the bowl. We ordered a mixed grill also. It literally had one skewer of lamb mince, 3 pieces of chicken and 3 wings for £19.65. We eat at grill houses and restaurant all the time so mixed grill is a common dish for us and in Exeter the usual price for a £20 plate is 3 pieces of chicken, 3 lamb, 1 chop, 1 skewer of lamb mince, sometimes ribs otherwise wings......so on a comparison with local restaurants this is extremely over priced. My last visit was about 2 years ago with similar experience but that time i decided to not give a review at all as i didn't had anything good to say, this time 2 years later still the same. You need to level up your game comptoir. 3* was very generous for this experience.

After years of being treated to great Middle Eastern food on Harrow road in London, this place really brought back a lot of memories. We visited Exeter for my wife’s birthday and after having trouble getting to our theatre show on time we had to cancel our original dinner reservations. After searching high and low, I was somewhat reluctant to try a restaurant chain but we thought we give it a go and were not disappointed. We were welcomed warmly by staff and looked after throughout our visit. The food was spot on and brought back a certain amount of nostalgia and kept leaving us wanting more. Keep it up guys!

Absolutely amazing place for Middle Eastern food. I don’t know if the chefs are from there or not, the food immediately transported us to the Levante. The hummus is quality stuff and oozing with tahini, silky smooth and presented with a tasteful garnish. Whipped feta is all the rage these days and this place can prove why. Cat and Flo prepared our drinks for us and they were delicious and super refreshing. With every bite I had I felt a memory seeping back from our holidays in the Middle East. I can only recommend eating here. Service was great, quick, professional and very cheerful. Our server visibly enjoyed her job which is the sign of a healthy workplace.

Greeted with a beaming smile amid an extremely busy Christmas service - big shout out to who Erin seated us; looked after us and the food was utterly delicious - a flavour sensation. We loved it so much we booked for a return visit the next evening!! Nothing was too much trouble. Great food; buzzing ambience and attentive staff.

Enjoyed the lamb kofta meal and batata harra! The food was made quickly and the staff were all friendly. Would highly recommend :)

Found this gem on a stroll round a wet and windy Exeter. Lovely decor and felt immediately welcome by our server Cat. Cat was very friendly and attentative. All our food and drink was very tasty and we will definitely dine at Comptoir Libanais again. We ordered Feta and Sumac flatbread, Zaatar and Garlic flatbread, Chicken Shawarma, Chicken Taouk, Orange & Almond Cake and Orange Blossom Panna Cotta.

There was a nice funny lady called Cat, who was very kind to us.

The food was tasty but the portions for the price were very small, we left hungry after paying £80 for 3 . The toilets are not cleaned often, there is no toilet paper,tap is loose. The idea for the restaurant is nice but you can see that maintenance is not done. Back to the food, it was tasty but the portions were very small for the price and we probably won't be back, which is a shame.

Found this beautiful restaurant by chance as I was walking through Exeter town centre. Had a very goood Kufta Lamb with Rice and a side of chips with Lebanese Toum (garlic dip). Food was lovely and staff was very friendly. But mostly, the restaurant wins on the ambience. Between music and decorations, it is very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.

The food was delicious. We were expecting larger portions, but that may be because we have large appetites. We ended up not getting dessert as the only vegan option was ice cream, which I didn't feel like having.

Fantastic evening of food and a big thanks to Cat for the guidance on what to order. Tony's hommos was creamy and delicious and the rice bowls are 10/10.

We came in Saturday for lunch. It was delicious. A lovely, relaxing atmosphere. Our server Cat was a delight. She couldn't do enough for us. A lovely bubbly personality. We will definitely come back.

First time visiting and trying Lebanese food, and wow it was delicious! We had the great feast which had the Meze, a mixed grill and the baklava dessert, very very filling and tasty. Service was great, lovely cocktails and loved the decor too. Will definitely return when back in the area

Great spot for a some middle eastern food in Exeter, great for lunch and dinner. Came her with my partner as she loves mezze style dishes. Service was fast and efficient special thank you our server Cat as she was polite friendly and made the whole atmosphere perfect especially for a Friday night dinner.

Really like eating here, the food is gorgeous and the staff, go beyond to make you feel welcome. Handy a nice lazy lunch with my two younger siblings. Would recommend this place to one and all.

The overall experience I had going on a not so busy night was subpar. The food is over priced for the servings, not very flavorful and cold. The lamb kofta kabob was burnt and dull the roasted salmon was cold and bland. The service is very slow and this was on a night they weren’t very busy so I could only imagine how bad it is on busy days. I got the feast to share and at the end it comes with tea and bakhlava when I asked to change it to something simple like coffee they said no. I would understand if I asked to change to soda or a bar drink but I just asked to change from tea to coffee and the manager didn’t allow it. Over all bad food bad service and bad attitude. Just their design is a little nice if you can get over the dirty floors.

We hadn't planned to go here, more like stumbled across, and decided to have a look. What can I say, absolutely superb. We had a sharing platter of 4-5 different plates. The tastes were amazing. The price isn't the cheapest, but the quality is up there. Big shout to Josh who was serving us. Run off his feet but still smiling and attentive. Definitely going back.

If you order the Houmous, don’t hold your breath waiting for the bread… Saw a chap in there who wasn’t given any bread after repeatedly asking, after an hour the poor guy just sat there and started scooping it up with his hands and eating it like some sort of neanderthal…

Just been to the restaurant to celebrate our daughters graduation. There were 6 of us and we arrived at 7.30pm. We managed to get our drinks after a 45 minute wait. The food did not arrive for over 90 minutes. A total disgrace. The service was an utter shambles. People came in after us and were served their food before us. In all my years in the restaurant business i have never seen such bad organisation. Two of our guests had to leave due to an emergency so the staff brought their food over in take away bags BUT still we waited for our food .?? Absolutely disgraceful. Its not like the food was free. Its an insult to treat anyone in this way. They need to address their staffing levels. The food did not even make up for the crap service.

came here with my friend group for a dinner out and i could not be more impressed with the atmosphere, customer service and food. i specifically got the chicken taouk grill and it was delicious, full of flavour. our server flo was super sweet and checked up on our table several times. we also got to meet chef mohammad. i would definitely come here again!!!

Sehr freundliche Bedienung. Wir wurden herzlich empfangen, jedoch mit dem Hinweis, dass es zur Mittagszeit sehr voll sei und mit einer Wartezeit von etwa 25-30 min auf das Essen zu rechnen sei. Was für uns vollkommen ok war. Wir hatten Hummus, Chicken Wings, Haloumi Käse, Datteln und Oliven bestellt. Es war sehr lecker mit einem guten Preis/Leistungsverhältnis. Gern wieder!

I Love Comtoir Libabais. I have been going to Comtoir in London for almost 10 yrs. Some Comtoir foods are very bland and basic with minimum portion. However the Comtoir Exeter is one of the best i have been. This is my second time at Comtoir Exeter and the foods are what Comtoit should be with such a great and friendly staffs serving . We had a bday party and everyone was impressed about the foods quality, service and the place!

Florence is amazing and very helpful

The food is incredible but the outdoor patio is now heavily impacted by the people from “the terrace” smoking directly next to you. Sit on the church side of the patio!

Good food but I object to an automatic 12% service charge when in fact the service is often very slow.

Stopped by for lunch and had a lovely array of food in a fun and exciting setting. We found the menu to be very nice for lunch offerings and had a nice mix of plates, all lovely. Take note to stay away from the flatbreads, just flavourless doughy discs you’d get from a supermarket. Service was a little lacking. Polite but very much left alone on a quiet day and didn’t come to check in regarding food or extra drinks.

My fiancée and I came for dinner on the 25th of April as this was where we dined on our first proper date three years ago and wanted to make it a special occasion as we were in Exeter. We cannot praise the staff and fhe entire experience enough. The service was incredible the entire time, the staff constantly friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely astounding and to the highest standard we could have wished for. Ryan, Dan and Erin made our dinner more spectacularly pleasant than it would have been anywhere else and we are so greatly thankful for such a wonderful time. I've made a TripAdvisor account specificly for the purpose of praising these people and this establishment. They deserve a raise. We will be back and look forward to every part of it 12/10 (Staff were even happy to stop and take a Polaroid photo of us enjoying our time together, it developed perfectly btw, thanks again)
