After a lovely phone call from Kelly. I would like to further comment. It is rare in my experience to find an organisation is prepared to be so open and accepting of criticism. Genuine apologies are also rare, I feel they should be praised and believe that the perfect storm of issues that led to our sad experience was a once only situation and look forward to visiting again to give them the opportunity to impress!! Full refund received in recognition of disastrous occasion. Brilliant customer service.

Booked months in advance with gluten free requested for the meal. Absolutely no gluten free alternatives were available children were literally offered a piece of meat on a plate for their meal. We walked out! Absolutely disgusted I'm a local and been coming Combe cellars for cellars for years with no issues up until the last 12 months. Absolutely disgusted staff thought it was okay to offer some family members meat on a plate whilst others ate a full meal in front of them will never eat here ever again

I was booked in for Christmas Day with my parents, have been the two previous years do knew we would be getting a great meal and atmosphere, how very wrong was I. We were booked in for 12 and on arriving the place was in darkness and the doors were locked, another customer phoned and asked them to open, which they did with no hello or apology. There was no greeting and we were shown to our table. Our main arrived at 13.10, the waitress split gravy on my mother and this was the start of our disaster. The potatoes were hard, the sprouts were hard and the parsnips were barely cooked. We spoke to the waitress who had no idea what to say or do( not her fault). We received our sweet at 14.05 and we were the first booking. Staff looked as if they had been drafted in to help as most were wearing jeans. Never again, our Christmas Day was ruined.

Boxing Day 2024 40mins late to sit us for our booking. Waited in the bar for our table to be ready for them to then tell us (once seated at the table) that they had ran out of half the food including the 1 and only vegan option they offer. No pre-order taken despite very busy time of year. Kids food options very poor and not catered to a kid’s diet. Management just wanted to pass the blame to other staff members which is poor management skills in my opinion.

We were booked in for Christmas Day lunch yesterday 25.12.24. What a massive disappointment this turned out to be. We checked through our pre orders with the staff once sat at our table including my wife's allergy requirements. Starters were probably only the decent part of the meal because after that it went down hill rapidly. Mains cane out with roast potatoes on the plate so only needed veg. We received 9 Brussels 2 quarter carrots and 1 quarter parsnip between 9 of us.....and no I'm not joking. We had to ask for extra to which we were made to feel guilty for. 2 of us had ordered the beef Wellington and we both received an extra slice of plastic/parchment paper stuck to it. Complained and plates were taken away and re plated minus all veg and roast potatoes...no additional veg or potatoes were offered. No condiments or sauces were available or offered. The masterstroke came during the desert course. My wife is highly allergic to raspberry and strawberry to which we informed on the pre order and again in the run through earlier mentioned. Her desert came to the table with a flag in it to signify the issue to discover it was covered in raspberry crumble.....the staffs attitude when this was pointed out was blasé at best....the total bill for our party including drinks on the day was just short of £1000. I can honestly say this was quite simply the worst meal and service we had ever experienced. No apology or recompense was offered which was staggering considering the disaster of the meal. Would I book this place again....probably never nor would I recommend it to anyone else. Would like to say our experience was isolated but spoke to friends who had also Been here over the Christmas period to hear of other horrors.

A wonderful location, but service sadly lacking on Boxing Day. Whilst we were seated promptly, it took 3 attempts to order the first round of drinks. A further intervention was required to request some wine glasses (not brought when bottle of wine delivered to table), and then red wine glasses brought as opposed to white wine glasses. May seem petty, but it is these finer touches that count. Starter excellent, Main course ok. Then had to find a staff member to chase up ordering of dessert. 30 minutes later nothing had arrived, so politely prompted, as order didn't appear to have been put through. Requested bill, but deposit had not been deducted, so further intervention required. Appreciate it maybe difficult to find staff on Boxing Day, but service appeared to be very disjointed and the team seemed despondent today. Whilst we had 'time' for a slower level of service, it did come across as inattentive. A similar level of service, with the wrong drinks order and wrong mains was observed on another table, and the server denied responsibility. Sadly, the diner had to accept an alternative dinner to that ordered. I don't like giving poor reviews, but feel these points should be flagged, so that Coombe Cellars doesn't get forgotten.

Lovely places with stunning views of the Teign estuary. Huge free carpark. The layout is really nice and the staff love people bringing their pets in after a walk. There is a great walk from newton abbot along the estuary but only to be navigated when the tide is low as at high tide you might get caught out. There is a huge beer garden and lots of indoor seating that is nicely laid out. The lighting is ambient and well designed. There is dog biscuits and water bowl.

Such a disappointment. Owners really need to look at the experience from the customers side. Most of Staff, not all, seemed completely uninterested. The food for our group of 10 took nearly 10 minutes from start to finish with one meal being brought out at a time and finally after telling the person taking the orders that one of our number had an allergy he actually gave the 'free from' meal to someone else on our table leaving the person with the allergy to chance his luck with the other dish. This crazy error only came to light later in the meal so it seems luck saved the day. Interior of pub and service does not reflect princess charged, overpriced and under achieving.

First I'll write the positives ......beautiful setting, wonderfully furbished and very stylish. Then ..... Service very very slow. When our food did eventually arrive it was luke warm and our friend never even recieved her main as it was sent back due to a ice cold centered veggie burger. She also ordered the mac and cheese which had no cheese the first time round so was also returned. The young waiter "Lewis" was obviously very inexperienced and clearly didn't know how to communicate with diners and came across very rude but his colleague (didn't catch his name) was very concerned about the service we had recieved and was genuinely embarrassed and instantly took it to his manager. We did get money off and an apology from "lianne" . We would like to thank the unnamed waiter for his curtesy and willingness to try to help . It was a shame as it was the last night of our holiday so we wanted to have a nice meal but alass this wasn't to be .

Your staff were great especially Holly she was amazing. The food wasn’t up to your usual standards, the pork crackling was solid couldn’t be eaten, the chocolate brownie was more a chocolate sponge and a very small portion,, my friend had the chocolate bomb dessert she said she wouldn’t have it again. It’s a shame I’ve eaten here before and the food was better. Response to the business comment. I did say when they collected our plates that I was unable to eat the crackling as it was so hard. I didn’t complain about any other part of the food as I was with a friend who was on holiday and didn’t want to ruin the meal. It was edible except the crackling but I won’t be back in a hurry. Also I don’t give negative reviews usually I had an email from you asking you do a survey which I did and you gave me the option to copy and paste to google reviews.

Booked for father’s 80th birthday for 17 people and children. The restaurant was very quiet so there was no excuse for the poor service - main courses brought out while plates and cutlery still in place from starters! No water glasses and no offer of jugs of water considering young children. The main meals though ordered prior to the day arrived mostly cold and so below the standard we would have expected for the cost. No one came to clear the plates etc from main course and we had to stack them up ourselves as the birthday cake was brought out. What should have been a lovely birthday meal was like a visit to faulty towers. I can understand not having enough staff occasionally but not when you have a large party booked as well. Looked as if the Chef was walking out as we arrived!

The food was not as nice as my first visit and considering the price you'd expect a burger you can bite into. The mushroom starter was also miniscule and extremely bland. Service was very good, albeit a little slow at times but we did have a 'trainee' waitress, so willing to forgive on that point. One of my guests ordered the Liver Parfait for starter but we were all very surprised that only one piece of toasted bread was provided, when clearly two pieces was required. Yes, we did order another slice but this had to be toasted and we waited circa 10 minutes for this to arrive. I personally had the Cumberland Sausages and reasonably disappointed that only two Sausages were served. I have been to many other establishments where this is served and three appears to be the Norm. The fish however, was delicious and huge!

We arrived at Coombe Cellars and the place is absolutely fantastic. The views are great and the restaurant is lovely. However, we were shown to our seats and were not informed that it wasn't table service, which is fine but it meant that we took a bit of time to order. Then we ordered the food - 3 lots of pork belly with scallops, lamp rump, linguine with scallops, and a burger. It took close to an hour for the food to come out and everyone's plate was piping hot - which generally means it has been sat under a heat lamp for a while. The waiter did not say a word when he brought the food out and chose to instead angle the plates down a bit to show the food and not tell anyone what it was. After figuring out what was what, he then proceeded to nearly drop the food onto two of the guests as the plate slid out of his hand from a height (I guess because the plates were so hot). He then did not apologise for this. The food was mediocre at best and for what we paid it really was NOT good value for money. One of the pork belly dishes came without crackling and the other two did. We paid an extra £4 for the linguine to have scallops (notice the s on the end there, that means plural) but it only came out with one scallop which was a bit rubbery. Overall, the place was lovely, the food was overpriced, and the service was shocking.

The same colleague then came out and proceeded to drop my plate to the table in front of me. At around 10pm we were told they were calling last orders. Not what I expected on a Friday night. We visited the Coombe Cellars yesterday, Sunday. The venue was booked on-line and a window seating for four people was requested. We arrived half an hour early to enjoy a drink and registered at the desk. We were told that they had us a table as requested but was not quite ready. Not a problem at all as we were early and was fetched from the bar area when they were ready for us. All was going well and the seating was good with the lovely views. This was really the end of the good bits and things did not go well from then on. We had two roast chickens and two trio of roast being beef, pork & chicken. It arrived in about 20 minutes but what a let down, the presentation was not great. It was dried out with little gravy and we had to request more gravy. The beef was one small slice and dried out, the pork was a very small square of belly pork and the chicken a dried out small chicken leg. We were expecting succulent sliced meats. Roast potatoes; well what roast potatoes, three very small potatoes hidden underneath the other items. When found, one was undercooked, one was so over cooked it look as if it had been hanging around did not attempt to find the third. The yorkshire pudding was as dry as a crisp and attempting to cut into it set splinters going everywhere. As a whole very poor. The ladies roast chicken was a small piece of chicken breast but again dry and over cooked. None of the four of us could finish the meals with mine sent back hardly touched. The other three meal put together was at least another serving and a half. We a local business people who eat out 2 or 3 times a month and this has to be the worst we have experienced. I do not read or do feedbacks normally as they are not always accurate and let my own experience judge things. I have written this feedback as I feel strongly about our poor experience. It will be interesting to see the managers reply to this! Will it be the same as all the other poor reviews but nothing changes in the pub kitchen and the food quality. There are plenty of very good pubs and restaurants all within 3 to 4 miles which have fully trained, proper chiefs who pride themselves on local food produce, good quality meats and great presentational skills. A very good sunday roast at these places will be between £17 and £24 and much more enjoyable. Or the alternative maybe is the cheaper national Tim Martin owned outlets which may do as good a roast (don't know) and a drink for around £14. In a nutshell please avoid and have a look on-line at other outlets in the area.

Great location and generally good food but as others have indicated a very long wait of over an hour for any food and long delays between courses. Long wait for drinks. Serving staff were pleasant and clearly could see the problem but unable to do anything to improve the service for which an automatic 10% charge is added. Thinking we were taking our visitors to a premium establishment we were severely disappointed with the mediocre experience. Gluten free limited selection because of no separate fryer. One meal forgotten which curiously only added an extra 10min wait for one of our guests. Truly disappointing.

Very poor. Waited ages for meals. Watch out if your gluten free as they share fryers. I'd say if you want a nice meal this is best avoided.

A delightful evening with family was spent here, wine flowed, food was fabulous, served by Amber with a beautiful smile. Never had such a fantastic experience in a restaurant in this country! Will be telling all my friends and colleagues. Every member of our party was expertly catered for - jokes with grandad, banter with the grown ups and colouring and care for the children. Good as good as a high end London restaurant and service to match. Well done Coombe Cellars.

This place is in an idyllic location, literally purched on the shore of the Teign estuary. The road approaching the restaurant is extremely narrow. We booked for lunch here on a sunny August day for lunch. Upon arrival it took 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge us, and another 5 minutes to seat us, and no the restaurant was very quiet-only using a fraction of it's capacity. The service was incredibly slow-we had a one course meal and we were there a full 2hrs! The food was very average too. At no point were we checked on to see if the meal was good or any sign of an apology for the slow service.

Took a friend who I haven't seen for a long time here for dinner. We shared the wine and dine menu. It was great value! I mean I think the bottle of wine alone was like 50 quid on it's own. Steak was great and the chef even wrote a birthday message on my brownie! Can't recommend enough! Massive thanks to Tim and Alex for their great service! The red headed American was lovely too, but didn't catch her name.

Had sticky chicken it was the right about of spice and chilli for my taste buds. For mains I had the dirty burger and it was what it says the cheese sauce dripping down the side and when you picked up it really live to it name and with a beef dripping gravy to dunk my season frys in and then washed it down with a nice crisp thatchers gold. Was served by a nice friendly staff member Alex was really up for chat. Will definitely be returning

Staff went above and beyond to make our visit so special We indulged in some top quality food and drinks and left completely satisfied, had anticipated long waits when we had arrived to see the place full..we needn't have worried. Service was fast and efficient without feeling rushed. I also think we had the best table in the house! What a view!

Perfect family gathering with views which were just as stunning as the food and service. Lamb rump was just the best and cooked perfectly. Served by the wonderful Alex who is just adorable. The pub itself looks a bit tired outside due to the constant high tides but don't let that put you off. Truly is a hidden gem in this part of Devon

Great little pub. Traditional pub games and a new jukebox. Clean and tidy and good selection of ales. Owners are from Torbay so good to see a more diverse community. Hopefully will get busier now there is a new development down the road. Free parking opposite with limited spaces. Even has a church on the other side of the road.
