I really hate leaving bad reviews on nice places but wanted to warn people. I've had a Sunday roast here three times. Each time was booked, each time the pub was half empty, and each time we waited well over an hour for our food. Today my friends and I went, two of our party had finished their dinner by the time mine and my friend's arrived. We ordered at 4.30 and our food arrived at 6.15. It's totally unreasonable and unacceptable. Yes the food is good - even though some of my meal was missing - , but waiting nearly 2 hours for a meal in a pub that has 15 people in it is totally ridiculous. I don't want to eat here again and I'm going to warn other people too. I know it's not a one off as the other two times we waited over an hour as well. Neither were at peak times either. It's insanity.

Came for a Sunday roast, excited about vegan roasts and that vegan Yorkshire puddings were on offer which is always rare. Unfortunately only one of the two vegan options were available, and no vegan Yorkshires either. I spoke to the staff to ask for an alternative to replace this on the dish (so as not to be short changed) and was made aware we’d get extra potatoes and stuffing. All vegan dishes arrived with non-vegan Yorkshire puddings and the same amount of additions as non-vegans. Very disappointed that despite explaining this it was not relayed appropriately and we were given egg/dairy. Flagged to the staff, did receive an apology but not an attempt to make this mistake up. Nice pub but sadly won’t be returning for a roast again.

Fabulous 👌 Sunday roast in this small gem of a pub close to Central Brighton. Large portions, good choice, excellent service. Highly recommended. The only suggestion is for the food to be served on slightly bigger plates 🍽 😋

First visit today to try out their new menu. Absolutely delicious veggie pie and mash/ veggie sausage and mash with lots of different options. Compliments to the chef. We will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff . A really cosy hidden gem .

Fantastic Sunday Roast, 2 for £30 at time of visiting. Sirloin beef was generous and food was served piping hot. The pub itself is reasonably small, but well appointed. Really charming stained glass and wood panelling interior, plus a few tables outside. Friendly staff and locals.

After seeing this place recommended alot online we decided to try it out and we were not disappointed! We had a roast beef and lamb. Large portions, everything on the plate was delicious, it came with giant yorkies and the best red cabbage I've had. The gravy was really good aswell, I could have drunk a jug of it! The service was great aswell, staff were really friendly. We even got a free doggy roast for our dog. The place itself is quite small which makes it nice and cosy, and we loved the decor. I'd definitely recommend coming here!

Roast was lovely. Stools so uncomfortable though tables tiny which doesnt make for a great lunch experience. After comment from owner i feel meed to update. I asked for another table as soon as we sat down as ours was right in way of bar and not much space. I was told they were reserved!! After sitting for 20 mins on tiny stools lovely girl brought out our lunch so i asked to move seeing as tables were still empty. Yes we were moved but we could have been moved and been more comfortable to start with. Not harsh just honest

Really lovely experience today having a roast, very accomodating staff that looked after us and gave a lot of attention to the dog 🙌🏼 The doggy roast was very much appreciated :) Best roast I have had in Hove, hands down, nice full plate with lovely gravy and loads of it, absolutely coming back most weekends Big shout out to Holly for hosting us, your a legend 🐾

There is only one vegan option on the menu and Sunday roast was small and pricey. Didn't used to be that way.

Lovely cozy little pub and staff are excellent. Heard really good reviews about the Sunday lunch but was a little underwhelmed to be honest. Very small tables so we were a bit squashed but appreciate it is a small, popular pub and it was quite dark so couldn't really see what we were eating. Veggie nut roast was nice but all felt a bit gloopy and piled on - very thick gravy, potatoes and veg felt a little too soggy for my taste.

A great little place for a Sunday roast popped in today after seeing plenty of Facebook advertising with my step dad, The food was great, (had the beef and pork with my step dad) plenty of gravy, and great staff (especially the girl who seemed a bit nervous when we arrived you did a great job) will definitely be back again :)

Kinda don't want to leave a good review so this tiny pub doesn't get busy and stop me getting amazing roasts and quiet pints. So please don't tell anyone about this traditional pub, or it's great service. Agreed?

New menu at the cosy local called the coopers. Really enjoyed the small plates yesterday 👌 we had the pork belly, mac n cheese croquettes and beef nuggets. All highly recommended sharing snacks.

The chef is spot on food was cooked to perfection and the bar staff holly and Heather as I found out were so attentive and warming this pub is so friendly only negative side its to far to become my local as I live in kent but trust me I'll be returning again

Have always loved this pub- it used to be my local so been here many, many a time. First visit back for a few years after friends recently recommended the roast and by god it didn't disappoint. They got three very important things just right- lots of vegetables, big crispy roast potatoes, and enough gravy. Great staff and lovely chilled atmosphere, we will be back!

The realest pub. Best to be a local or go with one

Decided to go for Sunday lunch today with my 10 year old. Not been here since Covid outbreak 3 years ago. Still very chilled and relaxed atmosphere. The service was friendly and excellent. I went for the Roast Beef and my son went with the Roast Chicken. The food was beautiful and filling. Will be back soon.

If you want to taste, really good Indian/Pubjabi food that Indians would eat, Friday & Saturday evenings this is the place to go, this is not like your mainstream restaurants, if yr expecting that, best not to come. Amazing flavours, only for genuine curry connoisseurs or Indians who miss their home cooked food and those that just know what is what in the curry world.

We visited, after a recommendation from a DJ friend of ours, on a Saturday night. It wasn't too busy which we prefer. Lovely member of staff, not bad beers and good atmosphere. We're late 40s to mid 50s and the other patrons were of similar ages which made us feel more at ease. Loved the different DJs taking it in turns on the decs. Nice pub! 👍

UPDATE 27 Feb 2023 Went for Sunday lunch yesterday, it was delicious, the potatoes could have been crispier, but the whole thing was a delight. We booked for 3pm, the playlist was late 70's / early 80's so very enjoyable to us, so we stayed for a few drinks after. By 6:30pm we were alone, a couple of people popped in for a pint and left. The staff were superb. The Sunday Lunch is really very good. PREVIOUS REVIEW Sunday lunch to die for, I wouldn't bother the rest of the week, I do sometimes obviously, but then remember why I shouldn't.

Fun small bar hosting regular micro events such as live dj's playing a selection. The place has a lovely vibe.

Warm, friendly unassuming little pub. You've got to go for Mama's Meetballs which is served on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Delicious authentic Swedish Meetballs and burgers, just heaven. Great vegan options too. Perfect mid week treat. Highly recommend!

Loved it! Been waiting to try this roast since seeing all the amazing reviews! Honestly was so nice! Size of roast was great I couldn’t finish! Didn’t have mint sauce - but I ordered beef who has mint sauce with beef lol - however, it made me realise I shouldn’t cover my roast in sauces as the flavours today were incredible!

Evening ruined by staff getting hammered with her mates - all shouting and screaming while everyone trying to have dinner. Customers leaving. The excellent Asian food chef should be doing his thing elsewhere.

Rented out the pub on the 18th December for my partners 30th, Simon was extremely helpful and accommodating to all our questions, wants and needs! We had such a wonderful evening. The pub is a perfect space to have a gathering, great location, great drinks available and a lovely little pub all round! The coopers cask is a real homey & comforting English pub! I was there second week of November for a birthday dinner and the food was absolutely scrumptious. This was the best jerk chicken I have had outside of London. Looking forward to having a Sunday roast there soon. 5 stars of deliciousness.

Still one of the best Sunday roasts. We've been coming for Sunday lunches for a few years now and of course the roasts have been consistently excellent. The weekday chef has taken on the weekends and my oh my, "Reggae roasts" are a genius idea! You've the standard favourites of lamb, honey pork, nut roast, etc. But new to the game are Jerk chicken (pictured, delicious), Goat curry and others. Still large servings but now almost doable if you come hungry. The plantain was caramelised and complemented the jerk flavour orderly. Was it a bit Smokey or did I just want it to be? It was something I'll be coming back for, for sure.

I love this pub. Really friendly and the Caribbean Sunday roasts are amazing.

Been coming to this pub for Sunday roast since about 2008 when I moved to Brighton. Tried and tested by far the most superior roast to the countless other pubs I’ve tried in Brighton. Quantum leap ahead of the rest. Light years. All roasts are amazing pub is lovely in general very friendly staff. Will be a sad day when the chef who brings the food to your table leaves

Best of all was my vegan nut roast layered with beetroot and spinach and the vegetables were just perfect, however the crispy roast potatoes was on another level of excellence....100% recommend this pub. If you want a well cooked Sunday lunch which very reasonably priced check this place out.

Had a trully amazing meal on Sunday, all produce was of the highest quality, so refreshing to taste vegetables, that taste like vegetables, good portions; will definitely be back for more Sunday lunches.

The Roast dinner used to be one of the best in town, yesterdays meal was probably one of the worst roast dinners I have ever been served. Very disappointed. The first dinner was returned as it was cold, the second meal was delivered and only the meat was hot, the veg wasn't even cooked and was rock hard. I won't be eating here again

Went for Sunday roast. Varied menu. Plenty of choice for vegan/vegetarian. I had veggie roast. My dinner came with roast beetroot, caramelised onions, plus the usual roast veg and Yorkshire. The gravy was especially delicious . The lite version is pretty much the same just fewer veg and one less roast potato. I would recommend thus pub to anyone looking for a delicious roast. Pub is small and definitely a local treasure. Book ahead.

Looking foward to a nice roast dinner, first time out since lockdown This pub has sold excellent Sunday Roasts and excellent evening meals. However I was very disappointed with the quality of the food served. Gone are the plates groaning with food, steaming hot and immensely tasty. In it's place are a medium sized plate of warm food, most of which looks as though it's been re-heated. The roast potatoes were certainly not roast! The Yorkshire pudding I suspect was Aunt B's! The nutroast was terrible and lukewarm - I could have sent it back but even re-heated it was never going to be pleasant.Whereever the old chef has gone, the management would be well advised to persuade him to return, food was a big selling point for this pub. I have had some excellent meals in the evenings, good food, reasonably priced and different from the usual run of the mill cook chill food that most pubs serve these days. This is a nice boozer with pleasant staff selling good beer but the food was dreadful, a huge let down.

This pub has a lovely atmosphere. The staff are friendly. Great range of beers and wines. The roast dinner is amazing, so tasty and massive portions all for a great price. The rest of the menu looks really good too. We definitely recommend coming here.

Sadly the roast chicken was awful. It was the last one available and they made it up of fatty bits. I'm not a meat fan so this didn't bother me and I left it to one side, but the stuffing and carrot (I think) mash were indistinguishable. The one parsnip, roast potatoes & 3 sprouts were fine although there was way too much food, piled high & unappetising. What a waste of food. Hopefully this was a one off.

Came in yesterday for the first time to try the Sunday roast on recommendation, and it was fantastic. Reserved a table for 2pm and i'd certainly recommend booking as the pub is small and popular! Food did take a little time to come as I think the kitchen may have lost the order but that is easily done, when the food came the portions were hugely generous and delicious too. We will be back without a doubt. Thanks!

Not great if you have kids or dogs (inside). Awkward space, but disappointing to see the owners letting a regular Vape at the bar with our young child + another couples baby in the bar. Mens toilets aren't great leaking moldy roof - to be fixed. Food was good, selection of beers decent, service good. Unfortunately let down by other items. Further to reply, the owner seems aware of the issues and is taking steps to resolve which is always good to know. I have upped the rating! and will revisit.

The most amazing Sunday pub lunch soooo many fresh vegs and nice friendly staff the pub was busy you need to book. Oh and lovely Long Man beer to wash it all down 10/10 🥇

Whenever we visit, we always make sure to head here for the roast. The portions are very generous and with tasty food piled up high there are always nice little surprise morsels hidden under things. I can never resist the lamb and it has never disappointed. They do a variety of locally sourced meats (chicken, pork, beef and lamb) and some really decent veggie/ vegan options too - that’s right optionS, plural. It has always been quite quiet and cosy when we have been before but today was heaving - some people had planned ahead and booked, so may be worth doing.Meat roasts are about £12-14 depending on what you choose. Good value for money!

Ended up here as the establishment just up the road couldn’t fit us in nor could I book the day before.The food was excellent although they had run out of roast lamb. The staff were friendly and helpful Dogs allowed Odd though no dessert menu disappointed especially my daughters who always have room for pud!

Ate here after reading great reviews on TA and were not disappointed. The food was amazing; piping hot, plentiful and tasty. Prices very reasonable too. It’s a small place, so be sure to book in advance.

Popped in yesterday (Sunday) as was recommended by lady in our hotel, got lucky as there was a few tables free, we both ordered the lamb Sunday roast, wow what a plate full, peas, runners, cabbage. Cauliflower,sweed, parsnips and broccoli roast spuds Yorkshire and meat, best Sunday roast I’ve ever had. Beer not bad either longman brewery ales good choice, we went back again after concert and had a few more ales, great find and will definitely use again next time we’re in Hove .

Nice, back street pub, excellent food. Service was very smiley. On the downside a few of the beer options were unavailable making for a more limited choice.
