Great place to eat in central Chester.

Disappointing after visits to Cote Marlow and Cote Manchester previously. Went for a Christmas lunch while shopping with other half but felt underwhelmed. Nothing more than average which made it feel over-priced.

We have been several times over the last couple of months and the staff have always been friendly and attentive. In particular the food has been consistently very good

Had Christmas lunch with family, really nice food. William was our waiter and he was really helpful and attentive.

Dreadful value. Tables small and you feel like you are eating with the table next to you. Asked to move and response poor. French onion soup was tasteless and all cheap onion. Cauliflower cheese was raw, offered another one but already halfway through our meal. Next table they brought the wrong order and tried to blame the customer. Steak cooking was bad. And they charged a fortune - next time go to Miller and Carter, same cost much better!

Not a great experience really , such a shame as we have eaten here many times before, we were one of 3 tables that found the food very average and also very expensive. We won’t return . Also the restaurant smelt very damp .

Fine dining in chester, fab surroundings in a glorious building . Food was excellent and your staff know what they are serving,giving recommendations when asked. They gave excellent advice on wine selection, standing by their advice with a guarantee to change it should it not be a pleasure. In my top 3 for chester. Our visit was a pleasure.

Booked in for Friday evening, and it was very nice. The staff are helpful, pleasant, and friendly, I would be happy to recommend this place to any of my friends. Good choice on the menu, not overpriced but about what you would expect to pay for good food. Service is pretty quick, but they don't rush you, good selection of wine, beers, and other drinks. Give it a go, you'll enjoy the place in sure. I enjoyed the food so much I forgot to take photos except for our charcuterie board and garlic bread. For my main i had steak, my wife had fish. For dessert, my wife had créme brúlèe, I had the chocolate tart. We also had a bottle of merlot which was very nice.

Gorgeous atmosphere. Food and wine excellent. Service was above a beyond from superb staff member Alex who really looked afrer us.

Not impressed. Toilets were on the third floor, NO Lift. Food wasn't spectacular. Can cook better myself. Seriously over rated.

I would of liked to tick more here. I really enjoyed my experience here. I have been in the catering buisness and it's not always easy to please. I would find it hard to make a complaint. From arriving to leaving it was just a lovely, enjoyable, delicious, experience.

How nice to be able to sit outdoors in the winter sun. Then to enjoy the food and service of Cote Chester. I choose the Garden breakfast, and loved it. Thanks also to Alex for your warm and friendly service.

Really great atmosphere and great service from Alex. Alex was attentive and ensured we wanted for nothing. Alex has mastered how to balance people’s expectations and also Alex was very friendly. Food was really good and Alex‘s recommendations were spot on. Nothing was too much for Alex. Alex also bet me I couldn’t mention her name ten times in a review, but Alex underestimated me. Well in advance, we booked a table to bring a friend to enjoy Saxophone Sunday on 24th November, specifying the event. This month I rang to check the timing, as it seemed to have changed. The staff member spoke to his manager to confirm. But tonight it turns out that it's not on, the saxophonist isn't available, the restaurant denies any responsibility for the adverts, and never bothered to tell me...very poor way to treat your customers.

We had a fabulous meal here, we'll definitely be back!

Great food and service, only let down by being yet another establishment to adopt the policy of adding a service charge to the bill automatically. In my opinion it should be entirely up to the customer if they want to leave a tip for good service and not to have it added automatically.

Well,well,today we visited the cote restaurant in chester for having dinner. I asked a lady if the set menu is existing and she confirmed that it exists all day. We sat at the table and we looked at the menu, one list to me and one to mywife's. I realized that my list only had a small, 1/4 vertical page, with what it was included in the set menu,my wife's not!!!!.As we were disappointed with the food included in the fix menu we went on the way out but another lady asked us what is wrong,I explained to her that we are not satisfied with what is in the fix menu and we go. She made absolutely clear to us that it was a misunderstanding and we can choose any two or three from all the menu. So we return back to the table. We ordered a menu of two and a menu of three plus 500ml house wine. We asked for the bill and surprisingly we saw the bill been £90 instead of £58( 1 menu Two courses and one three courses plus the wine). I explained to the first lady what the other one said to us in front of her, and it was like we were talking different languages..... The food it was nice but that happened to us we shall never go back again.

Very good food and service. The room was a bit cold for myself and my partner, though others sat in shirt sleeves, so maybe that's just us. Our waiter was brilliant, with good knowledge of the menu, and helpful. He re-arranged several menu items so as to accommodate my partner's dietary restrictions. Some places do this, some make a fuss about it, and others will not deviate from the script. Cote did this without drama, and the whole experience was a great pleasure. I highly recommend this place.

Fantastic food & wine with a very friendly service. The whole ambience is ideal for a truly classy dining experience. Dined here on a Sunday, there was live music provided by a saxophonist who got the playlist just right & at the right volume. William our waiter was a perfect host & nothing was too much trouble for him to make our dining experience a great one. This isn’t the first time we have eaten here, & Cote have been consistent in the quality of food,wine & waiting staff. 10/10!

Dinner at Cote Chester. Located in town centre. Serving staff polite & friendly. Had the 4 course dinner; including a glass of Crémant de Bourgogne. The crudités with that dip was tasty. The calamari starter was excellent. Fresh. Ordered extra dish of mussels with fries. The white wine stock was really tasty. Plumb mussels. The main fish dish was ok with the seafood nicely cooked. Finally, the créme brúlee was light and very nice to finish off the meal.

What a lovely spot, excellent service the food was amazing and we were never rushed. The butternut pumpkin tart was delicious

We had a very enjoyable lunchtime menu and personally the best steak I’ve ever had … service was spot on , friendly staff both warm and welcoming . The resturant itself is lovely . We loved the fact it’s built around original Roman arches and has an original Roman door on site . Loved the place . Will definitely be going again. 👍🏻

I have given 5 stars for Atmosphere and 5 stars for Service thanks to William who was Amazing ! Very friendly and attentive and made the evening very special for me and my partner. My stars for food is 4 because there were not many choices for Vegetarians. Thanks to William I was able to combine something to actually eat something. I ate here many time, food is good as the service, but them policy of card only, even if legal, it's unqualified, the currency in UK is pound!!!!! Last time today and I am sorry because I appreciated onion soup and bourghignon

Lovely meal and good service. It was our anniversary and before we ordered they brought us an aperitif ‘on the house’ . When the bill arrived we had been charged! Slightly embarrassing so didn’t query it but a little disappointing 😢 Date of visit: September 2024

Great French Onion Soup! Service was fantastic. Visited on a very busy evening (where people had clearly been to Chester Races). We were sat on a table right in the way of the toilets (not the best table) and there was a very large, rowdy table next to us. It all kicked off, fights, screaming etc, you name it. The team shouldn’t have to deal with that, but it took quite a long time to even try to do something. Eventually (after a spoiled meal due to not being able to even talk to our party as it was so loud elsewhere), they moved us to another table at the front of the restaurant. The team did apologise, but I think they could have handled the situation better. The police should have been called.

My wife & I visited Cote Chester on Friday, 13th September, on our way to a show, with not a lot of time to spare. The food was excellent. I'd certainly recommend the Salade au Bacon & the Pan-Fried Seabass from the prix fixed menu. Although the restaurant was already busy at 6.30 pm, we were well looked after by William, who was both attentive & spoke knowledgably about the items on the menu and the wine list.

Excellent lunch 👌 perfect service from our waiter who went out of his way to ensure our vegan guest was catered for. Delicious mussels, Steaks fish and braised meat and exceptional desserts. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Lovely place to visit at any time of day. We went in for breakfast and enjoyed it very much. Not a huge croissant fan myself, but the ones served here are absolutely delicious. In fact all the breakfast items were! Fantastic friendly service from all the members of staff. Will definitely be back!

Being able to walk in off the street at prime time on a Saturday night when the rest of Chester is fully booked should have told us everything we needed to know. The food was honestly awful. The biggest 'surprise' was that the Mushroom Bourginion was actually reconstituted mushrooms that were made to look like bits of beef and arrived dry without any sauce. Presumably, as a french restaurant, they know that using actual mushrooms in a bourginion is a legitimate french dish and would still work for vegans and that it is a type of stew? The roast chicken (sorry- Poulet) was tough, and dry (but not as dry as the Bourginion!), and looked like it had been boiled and left to stand for a day or so and, if I were blindfolded, I would have been convinced that the Parminter was a microwave Tesco meal. The service wasn't amazing. We all felt like the person serving us came across as quite condescending and I do think that an empty restaurant in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse would have more atmosphere than when we visited. There was no background music, which was really needed in an empty dining room. On balance, I actually think the staff are doing their best (a job is a job at the end of the day, and i don't think any of them told their careers advisor that they dreamed about working at Cote, even if they wanted to go into food and hospitality!) so props to them for working with what they've got - front and back of house. We will never ever return to Cote- at any location- and I give it a year, tops, before they announce they are out of business. They will, of course, cite increasing energy and food costs or the death of the high street but if our experience was typical of other locations, they will have done it to themselves with their overpriced, poorly prepared food and lack of understanding of what dining and food is to the French.

The food and wine were amazing, our waiter was the perfect balance of warm, friendly and professional. The atmosphere was lovely. We were very happy with our lunch date.

Wonderful décor, we were seated quickly by Anita who brought us our drinks promptly and whose knowledge on the food and drink was very clear, inclusive and accommodating they adjusted our order to fit with a special that saved us money. Streaks were cooked exactly to order, bearnaise was perfectly balanced, Diane sauce could have been a bit thicker but still tasted wonderful. The truffle fries were far and away the most delicious and distinctly truffle flavoured that we've tasted. The balsamic and honey tomatoes which accompanied the camembert stole the show! We were honestly wowed by the attention to detail to every aspect of our meal. Looking forward to our return.

Had a lovely anniversary dinner here. Had the cote de boeuf wich was cooked to perfection. Stunning interior with old stone archways. We were looked after very well by the lovely William who was extremely informative and helpful with both wine and food choices. Cannot wait to return and sample other dishes.

Not asked how we liked our steak do too well done. Chips overcooked to. Charcuterie board only parma ham and 2 raw carrot slices. 2 tiny pieces of bread.

Wonderful steak...very very tasty! Waiter was great and knowledgeable about the menu and being able to swap out sides etc. Lovely atmosphere. Just can't fault it!

Terrible breakfast. Ordered 1 Cote Breakfast with a side of Boudin Noir and 1 Pulled Pork Sandwich. After a half hour wait, we received a Cote Breakfast with a side of Boudin Noir and 1 Sausage & Bacon Sandwich (wrong order). As we didn't want to wait a further half hour, we didn't say anything. The Cote Breakfast wasn't the best. Lukewarm scrambled eggs, sausage was overcooked by a couple of hours, mushrooms were disintegrated and clearly deep fried, rosemary potatoes were missing rosemary and tasted bland and the side of Boudin Noir was also clearly deep fried as the outer was crispy and tasted burnt, however, the inside was a delicious combination of sweet and savoury. Shame it was tarnished by the wrong cooking method. There was only 1 other table in the building, so no excuses. Won't be returning in a hurry.

The staff in Chester were very professional, attentive and helpful especially Jacob who served us. Prices were reasonable. Can recommend the food it was delicious. Couldn’t fault it in any way. Will be back next time I am in Chester.

My friend and I both thoroughly enjoyed our late lunch here. Our food was absolutely delicious (I had the duck a l'orange with an excellent creamy desert to follow) and the staff were lovely. A big "Thankyou!" to Malu and to Jacob (who gave me excellent advice on which wine to choose) and also to the kitchen staff who produced that excellent meal.
