Cote Brasserie - Haywards Heath in Mid Sussex

Went along with my family for my birthday. Great food and good service. Some dishes took a while to arrive though. I mentioned my birthday, and the team put a little candle on my dessert and gave me a glass of cremant on the house! Lovely touch.

Calamari really nice…mayo dip was sparse….Scallop’s cut in multiple pieces to give the impression that the portion was larger! Particularly as it cost £12.50 …Ribeye steak perfect and tasty but garnish was pointless and chip portion less than McDonald’s!! at £27 was a bit cheeky considering the absents of other items such as mushrooms tomatoes onions etc… personally I think the food is overrated. The gentleman’s lavatory was nothing short of disgusting!!! The floor was wet and dirty and the toilet stuffed cistern high with used toilet paper!!! I’ve seen cleaner public toilets than this place. Not rushing back here anytime soon.

Amazing experience, their waiting staff was so accommodating and kind. Always paid attention to us, they served our food quickly and efficiently (they had to make two rounds as not all the food we ordered fit on their trays). They conversed with us often making the atmosphere 10 times better even making us laugh with some jokes. Food was very impressive, exceeded my expectations, delicious. Even while we were leaving they were kind and warm. Will definitely come back, until everyone I know has experienced this place!

Waited nearly an hour for our food despite the place being almost empty. Service was lackadaisical and out of sync. The 2 fish pies were small AND had only prawns in them. Def not worth the wait or the money. Won’t be returning as there’s plenty of other restaurants in the vicinity.

Came at a non-busy time mid afternoon, but felt like the waiting staff wouldn't leave us alone until we ordered, even after we said we needed some time to look at the menu. Never received the tap water we asked for, and took more than one reminder for a spoon we asked for which was needed for the food we ordered.. Small portions would be appropriate if the quality was high, but the cheese souffle was flat and tasteless, the cheese board was pretty depressing to look at. After informing the staff that the souffle was poor, they simply responded with "oh". Won't be returning, and wouldn't recommend it.

Birthday dinner for my daughter and son in law. Very nice decor..shown to our table by polite and efficient staff, who attended to our drinks straight away. Unfortunately, that's where it ends. I had the goats cheese tartlet..which was extremely bland, cold hard pastry. The monkfish was disappointing also, undercooked and underseasoned. The warm goats cheese salad was very underwhelming also. This put a bit of a damper on our evening and I won't rush back to Cote. The service was good, but you don't go out to dinner for the service, you go for good food bottom line.

We had such high hopes for Côte, believing it would help make our friend’s 30th birthday a special one. Instead, it left her feeling upset, and the entire experience was a disaster. For the price and reputation of Côte, this was unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend this branch at all, especially if you’re planning a special occasion.

We went here to celebrate a 30th birthday, however our experience from the first moment wasn't fantastic. The person who asked to take our drinks order (who turned out to be the manager) made sarcastic comments on some members of our table ordering tap water or soft drinks, saying 'oh none of you are order alcohol?!' - she made this comment twice at both ends of the table. Inappropriate to make such a judgemental comment, no one should be under any pressure to order alcohol. The waitress who took our food order was lovely and attentive. However the food took over 45mins to come, the restaurant wasn't even particularly busy. We checked on the food and it took another 10minutes. At this point things took a sour turn. One member of our table didn't have their food given to them (despite the whole tables food taking forever to come), we asked the wait staff to check on where this burger was. It took another 10minutes for this burger to turn up, with a very defensive manager who said it wasn't okay to swear at her staff (which we agree with, but we were confused... We hadn't sworn). Long story short, one member of the wait staff thought we had sworn at her when asking for the missing food to be checked on. The manager came out incredibly accusatory and later brought out the wait staff member who made the accusation. It was resolved by saying it was a misunderstanding, but it was an incredibly sour atmosphere to create for such a celebration and one that didn't need to be created if it were handled much better from the manager to check what had happened before accusing the customer. Turns out the wait staff had misheard. This is a sad experience because the food, when it did turn up, was decent. Don't think we will be coming to this branch again - Cote is usually good, but this branch you might want to think carefully about before booking celebrations.

Was really excited to come, however, upon arrival and ordering drinks I was judged by the manager for getting a soft drink. We waited 40 minutes, one of the party were still waiting for their food though at this point we had all finished which we said was not good. She was rude and then accused one of our party of swearing at a member of staff. We asked for the staff member who accused us to come back and she apologised for the misunderstanding. The manager said hope you understand I was protecting my staff. Which I understand but not at the detriment of customer service. Wouldn’t recommend. Had the steak frites - dry and wouldn’t recommend.

Service was really good and there didn’t feel like a rush to get rid of us as it got closer to closing time. Food was good as usual, however I was a bit disappointed by my steak - I’d asked for it medium and it came closer to rare and the piece of meat itself was quite tough chewy.

Welcome was great and seemed genuine. Waiting staff were efficient and attentive. The restaurant is much bigger inside than the frontage implies. It’s really well appointed with a clean, yet basic, classy feel. My Côte de boeuf sharer was delicious and cooked to perfection, although the bone reeked of wet dog. I had assumed this must have been marrow or similar but Since researching I found out: If a cooked steak bone smells like wet dog, it might have a "warmed-over flavor". This is caused by the breakdown of fats in the meat into chemicals that create an unpleasant smell and taste. Although neither my son nor I got sick, It tainted an enjoyable meal. I can still smell it 3 days later. 3 starters, 3 mains, 1 cote de boeuf sharer, 2 cocktails, 4 large bottles of 1664 and a Diet Coke, £225 so pretty good value even if I do feel like I ate Fido.

Met a friend in Haywards Heath as it's about half way beween our homes. Had a beer or two in a nearby pub and then went to Côte for a long and leisurely lunch. I'm more familiar with the Chichester branch but there is a consistency to the experience whichever branch you go to. We had a combination of the Prix Fixé and à la carte menus and had a great meal with a half litre carafe of Grenache served at exactly the right temperature, desserts, coffee and a couple of Calvados in warmed glasses, as is correct.. I'm not sure where else you can get good Calvados in the area to round off a meal but it was much appreciated. Service friendly, efficient and prompt.

We went for breakfast with our young baby - there was space for our pram and us round the table comfortably. Staff were very friendly and the food was lovely - I’d recommend the bacon french bread!

We happened to be staying in Haywards Heath overnight and found this lovely restaurant. Great food and service.

Just been to Cote for a birthday meal. The occasion was special but we’re disappointed with the food. My first choice of menu was “off the menu” so I opted for ratatouille. This was basically elaborate beans in tomato sauce with a lump of goats cheese. The frites were overcooked and hard. The steak was ok. I think they were very short staffed.

I really appreciate Cotê's consistency! I have been to others, and have never had a bad meal! The service was great and the food delicious 😋 Just sad that there were several items that were not available...

Three of us went to dinner last night and it was excellent. Food was brilliant, steaks cooked perfectly, beautiful salmon too. Special mention for our waitress Poppy, as she was fantastic...prompt service but not intrusive, informative of all of the menu options, polite, welcoming and she makes the welcome face of Cote somewhere that I'm very happy we have in HH and will certainly be returning regularly

We came here the other week for my sister's 21st birthday meal and it was absolutely beautiful! The food was outstanding and staff were so friendly and polite. I will definitely be recommending and will be visiting again in the near future ☺️

I’ve been enjoying meals at this spot every 2-3 months for years now. Unfortunately on my most recent visit, the quality of food has dropped slightly, and isn’t as enjoyable as it used to be. The starters were decent, especially the olives : they were absolutely delicious and very well seasoned. The smoke salmon-filled balls weren’t that special and I wouldn’t really recommend them at a French brassiere. The calamari were obviously not fresh, and honestly not that enjoyable either. The bread is always quite tasty with the butter and a good simple starter to order. The highlight undoubtedly is the onion soup though, it’s consistently quite tasty and even though I never have it because I personally don’t like onions, the party I’m with always recommend and rightfully so. For mains, I’m an expert in the Steak Frites, and I have to say the quality has dropped. It wasn’t pleasant to see chargrill marks on a steak frites which shouldn’t be cooked in that way, and the meat itself felt cheap and tacky. They never used to cook it this way, and it’s a real shame because you end up walking away with a rubbery piece of meat rather than what used to be a relatively enjoyable steak. The duck, on the other hand, looked brilliant for a chain restaurant: it was tender and not too bloody. If I were to eat here tomorrow that is what I’d order for sure. The salad which was ordered was fresh, however it was plastered with unnecessary bits of lettuce scattered around the plate to a standard you’d see in a Costco takeaway box of salad - not very impressive. The standard of food is never that high, as you would expect at every chain restaurant these days, even though I hear their breakfast/brunch is quite enjoyable, but what really ties the experience together is the staff and service. They’re very nice, and understanding, and always up for a nice chat whether that be explaining the menu items or a talk about the premier league matches that are being played on a Saturday. The service in terms of food is not that fast unless you SPECIFY for them to bring everything out as soon as it’s ready, which if you don’t do: they will bring food out as if it were a 3 course meal. In summary they’re all very nice and chatty. In conclusion, if you’re looking for something quick last minute, then this isn’t a terrible place to go. The restaurant is never that busy these days and finding a table should be relatively easy.

From the moment we arrived the staff were helpful and friendly, looking after us without being intrusive. The food was excellent as was the service.

I ordered a near-£24 sirloin steak. I've been eating steaks in restaurants for approx 35 years, I know sirloin comes with fat down the edge. Exc the fat, about 1/3 of this piece was inedible - I couldn't even cut through what I thought was gristle. My parents were paying for most of the meal, so I didn't want to upset them by complaining, neither did I want a scene at the table and ruin the atmosphere. So I ate what I could and when I'd finished, I went inside and discretely told the staff what I thought of the meal. I explained clearly that I was doing so discretely and didn't want a fuss at the table. I did not ask for any bill reduction. The chef then came marching out out with my plate with half-butchered sirloin on it and was heavily sarcastic - gist was that he'd heard that I wanted to complain about the fat on a sirloin which is supposed to have fat on it. He seemed a little cross. I pointed to the gristle. He said it was a tendon, all sirloin came with it. I disputed that, as I have never come across a tendon in sirloin before, and suggested he was buying cheap cuts. I have since looked this up and everything I've read is that a decent butcher will remove tendons ie Cote buys cheap cuts. I also expressed my dissatisfaction that he'd come out to the table to confront me - v unprofessional. He wasn't sorry, said it wasn't his fault, he didn't apologise for the meat, insisted it was perfect. Cote should send him on a customer complaint handling course. If anyone has seen John Cleese/chef/restaurant complaint sketch, watch it. Obviously this wasn't as bad, but....... All round, over-priced food, poor quality, disgraceful customer care. We told the chef we wouldn't be returning, which he seemed happy with. So we won't be.

I came in for a quick bite to eat and a drink, the rosé negroni was a great choice, I loved it! I’ve been served by Federica and she was friendly and efficient ♥️ Lovely atmosphere, highly recommend!

Our group (part of the local Twinning Association with a French town and a German town) meets every Friday morning at Côté Haywards Heath to speak in French for one hour. The wonderful waiter speaks French with us. Great croissants and a very welcoming atmosphere!

Came here the other night for date night and we really enjoyed our meal . The food was very nice. I had the set menu and my partner had the normal menu. The service was very good. The waitress was attentive,accommodating and helpful. We loved that they have french cider too. Prices were reasonable. Will certainly be back again.

After many pleasant visits over the past many years , food and service were excellent. At the recent visit , although the food was still good , the service from the male waiter was dire in every aspect. No conversation, sour demeanour, no mention of the desert menu , and did not return to take atm payment. Could not refuse to pay the 10% service charge , the chef and the female waiters need all the help we can give. I will return though .

I love Côte. I always try to visit, if there is one In the city visiting.

We all had different pallets so every single person had different mains and dessert (sorry chef) , all came out at the same time. That's five different mains and five different desserts ! Great food, polite staff, but oh so slow! Averaged over an hour for each course. Over three hours to have three courses. :-(

Service was bad. Did not have starter and waited over an hour for main courses. The restaurant was not busy. No one came to the table to say anything or offer something to keep us going. I will defiantly not be taking any business guests there again. I found it very embarrassing.

We went in today for lunch with my family for my mother in-laws birthday ( a large group of us). From the minute we arrived through the door we were very nicely greeted by the manager. He asked a few questions and found out it was a birthday meal, they later presented a very nice surprise cake with a candle to my mother in law ( she was really chuffed) Our waitresses were very polite, professional & friendly. The food was really first class. Thank you very much for a first class experience, absolutely 💯 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dishes looked delicious and tasted good. We had side courses and desert rather than a whole meal, it came to £50 total. Though was felt feeling sick afterward, maybe due to the cheese.

I'm sorry to say not as Goss it was. We found the food very disappointing. Nice staff though but won't be going for a while which is a shame as we used to go regularly

I would recommend you don’t waste your money here. Eating with children, we waited an hour for our food to arrive, only to find out they had completely forgotten the starters. The cote de boeuf was stone cold and not seasoned at all. Our drinks didn’t arrive at all. I had to go to the bar to get our drinks. Better restaurants to have a nice family meal, this one is not it.

Great place for a European cuisine lunch.

We were a group of 8 people celebrating a maternity leave, the waiter took our order quite quickly, brought drinks over for almost everyone. When I asked for my drink, he almost told me off for not ordering correctly at the start. It felt rude and unprofessional. My drink took another 20 minutes to arrive, since it was a glass of champagne everyone else at the table drank theirs before I even got to toast. Very disappointing! When the food arrived the poached I had ordered were hard-boiled. When I pointed this out politely to the waiter, he seemed upset with me and begrudgingly offered to bring me another set of poached eggs. To my disappointed the second batch was under cooked with the egg white transparent. At no point during our stay there did the waiter show understanding for the situation. To my utter surprise minutes before paying another waiter came to me and apologised for the overcooked poached eggs I received. The breakfast cost 21.95 pounds which is practically extortion for one sausage, three (!) cherry tomatoes, 1 spoonful of mushrooms, a tiny pot of baked beans (canned by the taste) and bread and a glass of champagne brought 20 minutes later than everyone else's. I had to pay 2 pounds extra for the poached eggs that were 1st time overcooked then undercooked. To avoid! Lack of professionalism!

We went for my mum's 80th brirthday recently and had a great time. We were given a warm welcome and it felt like we treated in accordance with the occasion. We asked if we could bring in a cake which they were fine with and they sang happy birthday - all in great spirit. My son broke a glass unfortunately and they were very gracious and dealt with this without any issue. All in all it was a lovely evening.

Just returned from a lovely evening at Cote on the Broadway in Haywards Heath. The evening was to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday and three generations of our family. There were items on the menu for everyone. Service was friendly and efficient, with one exception - someone who ordered a second starter in place of a main had a very long wait for their dish. Staff were apologetic and did assure us it was coming, The quality of the food was great and we all had a wonderful evening. Highly recommended.

The perfect setting for a family sunday brunch. 5he staff are always welcoming and friendly and the food is always good. We have been here many times since moving to Haywards Heath.

Went with he whole family for a lovely Sunday brunch. Caters very well for vegans, vegetarians and gluten free. We have lived in the area for a couple of years and this is definitely our favourite place. Shall be back soon.

Used to be better set menu with 2 options standard and premium. Price has increased a lot I get cost gone up etc but still big increase. Only standard set at premium set price now. Special dish's used to be better. Given high price Quality hit and miss I find depending on dish. Also for some reason this Cote is not taking orders from the delivery apps were cotes in London are. Would expect consistency for a chain restaurant. Mixed bag.

Booked a table for 6 people at 1030hrs, first 3 meals came out cold and next 4 meals arrived 15 mins later🤔. Staff polite and we asked to se the manager, given a hefty discount but not sure if we will return?

Came here for the Full English Breakfast and I have to say I found it quite delicious and filling. 7-11-21 Tried out the French Breakfast. It wasn't bad but I definitely prefer the English equivalent. 3-01-22 The beef bourguignon was quite tender and delicious though personally for me, I found the gravy to be too rich and salty though I guess that's how it's supposed to taste. 19-01-24 The burger and dessert were tasty enough but the portions were puny for the price.

Our favourite restaurant with wonderful food, wine, atmosphere and lovely staff. We were greeted by Saoirse as old friends and as it was an anniversary, we were given complimentary kir royals and dessert. That really made the day extra special.The seabass rouge and the poulet grille as mains were delicious. Will be back next month for my birthday. Mary

Booked this for our staff Christmas meal, having had a lot of good feedback about the food. Good atmosphere and busy. Staff friendly. Sadly we had to wait a while for our food, when it arrived, it was very disappointing. Dried up prawn thermidor starter, the main course vegetables had been kept warm and had dried up. The steaks, already having to pay a premium on were tough. Long wait in between courses and not a cheap outing! I wish now I had sent all my food back but didn't want to dampen the Christmas spirit of our team. Emailed Cote to leave feedback and had no response which is very disappointing. I would say avoid the big set meals as the kitchen clearly can't cope. This is my feedback and maybe Cote will respond!

Went for New Year's Eve - the set menu had lots of choice of different dishes, 4 courses and an included glass of cremant. Everything was really well cooked, and very friendly and helpful service. The madeline with dessert was lovely - fresh from the oven and served warm.

We had the roast sharing platter. We'll cooked meat all served with tasty sauces.

We thought this would be a nice place for our group of friends (7 of us) to meet for a Christmas lunch in early December but sadly we were very disappointed. Despite the restaurant being almost empty the service was very poor. We waited almost an hour for our starters. To be fair we did all think that our main courses were very good. Unfortunately, again, a long wait for our desserts. I can only assume that they must have had a shortage of staff given that there was hardly anybody in the restaurant but we twice had to chase up our food orders. Very disappointing. Having complained about the poor service they actually agreed and gave us 20% off our bill. We won't be rushing back.

I visited here many times over the last month with my colleague during a month’s work placement as we were staying near by, and the service and food were superb every time. By far the best place to eat in Haywards Heath! The welcome received was amazing - the staff got to know us by name over the month and the manager even bought us a round of drinks to say thanks for the continued custom. The food quality and consistency is excellent. Most recommended. Thanks to Hayley, Lily, Niki and the rest of the team for making our experience brilliant! See you in 6 months!

I had a pre Christmas lunch with very good friends and I was very impressed by the experience. It was my first visit to the restaurant and I was not disappointed. The Moules Frites was the best I’ve had outside France, great flavour and plentiful. I finished my meal with the Cafe Gourmand and I would recommend it as the perfect end if, like me, you don’t have a large appetite.

Lovely food - always to a high standard but what makes this place great is the service - especially from Acacio - always super friendly and goes above and beyond!

Coffee was lukewarm and the food order was missing one of the menu items. Rectified but poor service on this lunchtime occasion.

I take my mum for brunch every week. The coffee is great. The food good quality well cooked. The team there very good and I really like the staff. Very nice outdoor space and superb large airy indoor space. Very good quality.

Oral was a fabulous waitress, with the perfect amount of attentiveness. We had the charcuterie board to start, 3 delicious cured meats and a fresh baguette. Then pork belly (which I would recommend to anyone) and a burger for mains. Overall a delicious meal and lovely drinks and lovely atmosphere in restaurant. Cannot fault

Absolutely delicious brunch! Service a little slow but on a lazy Sunday I can forgive that. Staff very helpful. Full English was delicious, not to greasy or too much food. Smashed avocado on toast.. delicious. Very very good

Excellent service:friendly, timely, attentive without being intrusive. The vegetables, desserts and sauces were quite delightful. But the meat! Horrific. The chicken was so dry and overcooked, it resembled something chipped off a fencepost. The lamb was half gristle and fat; what was edible of it so tough we barely bothered even though we were all quite hungry. This restaurant needs to learn to buy at least medium-quality meat; I wouldn’t feed this garbage to a dog. And then the chef really needs to learn to cook meat. A chef who can’t even cook a chicken breast needs a new job. Sainsbury’s always needs shelf stackers. A waste of money. It was supposed to be a celebratory afternoon for us. Instead, we survived it.

As much as the steak didn’t come out how I was expecting the manager and the staff were awesome. They helped and understood without any questions. This is without doubt a well managed restaurant that cares about its customers. 5 star ⭐️ from me as the hit everything with ease and made me feel special.

★★★★★ Where shall I start? I have always been an `Italian-ristorante-lover`, but since I visited Cote in Haywards Heath, I`m converted to French cuisine. This place is charming. It has a carefully selected wine and gin list, an excellent menu, and comparatively fine prices. The first time we visited the restaurant was with my friend`s aunt and cousin, who were visiting from abroad for the weekend. The hostess`s standards of hygiene met our own as my gin glass was shiny, and the coffee cup was white as snow whereas the napkins looked like swans. Once ordered the starters we did not have to wait for long. For starters we shared some olives with fougasse. The bread was crumbly, and sparkled with fresh oregano. Yummy in my tummy! Our main dishes were absolutely tempting, mouth-watering and divine. I have never had in my life such a beautiful vegan burger before. The savoury taste of the combination of burger patty, vegan cheese, caramelised red onion, freshly made brioche bun and handmade frites evoked pleasant emotions in me. My friend`s family was happy with their order, too. They were utterly satisfied with their meat choice, Cote de boeuf, and sea food Breton fish stew. Last we ordered some coffee. I highly recommend this armoire filled with French goodies.

Very nice meal. We have been before and booked but the last time we went we just popped in and got a table for 4 this time. Nice menu selection but they had rang out of burgers. Previously on another occasion tried their breakfasts. These were really good and my sister-in-law had a vegetarian one which she enjoyed.

We took 19 staff out for an evening meal.Shocking level of service. 3 meals arrived cold. No sparkling water available. We ordered a bottle of wine which we were informed was out of stock. On finishing our main meal we asked for the dessert menu and we were in formed the kitchen was closed! No staff pre warned us to order the deserts as the kitchen was closing!

We had an excellent brunch experience here due to our server Acacio greeting us so warmly, then ensuring we were served correctly and promptly throughout our visit. What a pleasure to have someone like Acacio to make your day!

Met our NCT group here and the restaurant could not have been more accommodating. They were able to seat all 7 couples, babies and our prams. Excellent service throughout and excellent food and drinks. Will definitely be coming back!

Family dinner Very busy restaurant. We haven’t eaten at the Haywards Heath Cote for years (we usually go to the Brighton one) where great service and great food is always the norm. Our waiter, Acacio seemed to be serving all the dinner guests on his own. Given that there was also a large birthday party it was to be expected that service was very slow. We were in no rush so this didn’t matter so much, a perfect opportunity to chat. But we did notice it took over 15 minutes before we were asked what drinks we would like and then when the cocktails arrived and the bottle of red wine arrived we had to wait until Acacio was free again to open it as he had to dash off. This on no account was this his fault. We were all very empathetic to his dilemma. It was extremely busy and he was on his own and we felt this was a managerial issue. Acacio was very obliging when we ordered the starters and we also had a special request and he gracefully accommodated by going to the kitchen to request it. 2x bread an olives. Then: I had DIOTS to start, 2 had the Prawn Gratinee ( a lovely touch with the newly added croutons to the dish) and hubby had the soup. All very delicious very tasty. Three of us ordered the Beef cheek bourguignon and one Poulet Breton with the smaller Tartiflette as side to share. The puréed mash needed more seasoning as very bland and was served cold but the beef cheeks and tartiflette made up for this. Beef was so very tender and full of flavour. The tartiflette was as good as the ones served on the ski slopes! Delicious! The chicken very tender and succulent. We would recommend these most definitely. When we ordered some more drinks when the meals arrived my daughter ordered a glass of bubbly and we also ordered another bottle of water and red wine. Our drinks arrived but my daughters glass of bubbly did not ( neither did the water) 25 minutes later her drink arrived having had to ask if it was on its way! After a 13 hour shift Acacio came over to say goodbye. We thanked him for managing to cope with such a busy service. Hopefully some staff were unavailable yesterday as we would be saddened if this staff shortage was the norm. This was not the expected experience that Cote usually provides.
