Good pub food served in good surroundings by excellent staffing. Due to its popularity did have to look for a parking spot,but worth it.

Arrived on the way to a pub much further away and was so happy we stopped here on the off-chance. Had one of the very best veggie meals I've ever had - veggie cottage pie and a pint of the darkest ale I've had the pleasure of followed with a stunning crème brulé. The three of us were left completely happy and with empty plates and dishes. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was perfect in every way. The roaring fire and Christmas decorations finished the cosy atmosphere for our Jan 2nd visit. If I'm ever in the area in the future I hope I'll have chance to revisit.

Everyone is always so lovely when we visit and the food is delicious. This is the place to go when you're hungry as the portions are very generous!

Really enjoyed our Sunday lunch, in our humble opinion, one of the best Sunday lunches we had.

One of our favourite go to pubs..being a coeliac they have cracking Gluten Free options and a separate fryer..dog friendly, a proper pub done right Sam and Rach

Had a nice Sunday lunch here sat in a quiet, cosy part of the pub. I had the veggie toad in the hole for main and the cheese board for afters. The Christmas menu looked really good as there are a lot more veggie options on there. Unfortunately, we were a few days too early for that. The food came out really quick and tasted nice.

Lovely village pub. Very polite and attentive service and delicious food. Chocolate delice is very rich as it should be and we would certainly share in the future. We visited on a quiet evening so cannot really comment on the atmosphere. They have extensive and beautifully situated beet garden.

Only called in for a drink staying close by for the weekend. Very friendly and dog friendly too.

We had a group of friends having a gathering after a funeral, the food had been ordered and about 70 guests were expected. We had a fabulous afternoon and there was a small amount to take away. Great place to reflect after a funeral or wedding. Amazing staff and outstanding service.

The food is exceptional every single time we come here. The staff are lovely, welcoming & helpful - the food is unbeaten & the warm decor is beautiful. This is truly the standard for a delicious pub dinner (elevated to the next level) If you are ever in the area I would highly recommend.

One of my favorite pubs! only a short 20 min drive from York centre and you have the best beer garden in all the land.

We ate a three course meal yesterday, which is something we do not usually do however the food was absolutely gorgeous and the steak cooked to perfection. Very tasty Sunday lunch in a stylish pub. Food well presented and very friendly staff. Two or three courses table d'hôte with vegetarian choices. Good selection of beers and a beautiful beer garden setting for when it’s a bit warmer than today.

Had a truly delicious Sunday lunch with my family today loved the menu great options, not too many choices as I like most foods to easier to decide. Very warm friendly welcome from all the staff team, a calm, comfortable & cosy environment.Excellent service by professional & polite staff. Highly recommend The Dawney Arms it is in the lovely village of Newton on Ouse a great setting with gorgeous interior & exterior which was enhanced by the sunny spring weather.

Second time at the dawney arms and it was as good as the first time . Good service ,very good food coupled with a nice atmosphere for reasonably priced food. Recommend to several friends and work colleagues.

Lovely country pub with warm and welcoming staff. Stopped in for lunch after visiting a National Trust property and were pleasantly surprised with a full Ploughman’s and cider. We’d definitely visit again if we were in the area.

The food was very tasty and arrived in a timely manner. The menu is a bit more unusual with venison, scallops and baked Alaska. We'll definitely come back. Well deserved 5 stars!

Very good food at a reasonable price. Lots of local produce - the locally shot pheasant was a stand out dish. Wine list is surprisingly varied for a country pub - very welcome! We will definitely return. Service great also - really welcoming and nice no-fuss waiters.

The menu is a special mix of easy eating, fine dining and kid-friendly items, all served in a warm, friendly environment. I can’t recommend this place enough.

Excellent country pub in Newton-on-Ouse. All staff are friendly and knowledgeable. A good selection of bar snacks, small meals, and main meals are available. Check the specials board too. There are dishes on there I've never tried. Always the first visit when we arrive. 3 to 4 Ales on too, all fine and looked after.

After a nice walk around Beningbrough hall we stopped for a lovely lunch meal. Food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommended.

100% satisfaction. Best dinner I've had in a decade, hands down. Pricey but totally worth it. Edit: a year on, and I'm back again. Still the best sticky toffee pudding in Yorkshire hands down. If they keep making food this good, I'll keep coming.

Came across The Dawnay Arms whilst visiting the area. Staff were very friendly, professional and accommodating. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. Lunch was wonderful. Best mushroom soup I have had. The seafood pancakes were delicious. My husband had the ploughman’s. A lovely selection of meat and cheeses. The bread was fresh, light and just perfect. Everything was served well and the food was hot. We were so impressed.

Enjoyed a family lunch at the Dawnay Arms on Saturday afternoon. It was reasonably busy for a weekend lunch time, so we were seated in the dining room area. Between us we chose haddock & chips, chicken, ham & leek pie and a sandwich with fries. Everything came together, the food was delicious, fresh ingredients and generous portions (especially the haddock and chips!)

Great food a bit on the expensive side but worth it.

The actual pub is lovely and it’s in a beautiful location but the service is terrible. It’s almost comical how awful it is. The staff are so rude and treat you like an inconvenience, even when you spend £££ on the bill. I went once and it was bad but gave it a second chance and it was even worse. The first time my food was cold and the yorkshire pudding was raw and the second time my steak was well done when I asked for rare. They should be grateful people are wanting to spend money there in the current climate and be mindful of how they speak to people.

A cosy bar area, and refined restaurant. A good menu which would suit most tastes. The pizzas we tried were assessed as the best had for some while, and the seared tuna of the specials board was excellent.

Popped in for a light lunch half around a dog walk, after crossing the Ouse by ferry at Nun Monkton. Great service and food. Will be back again soon.

Great pub right on the riverside, pretty busy so would advise booking, do a lovely pizza; beer is well kept and staff are very helpful.

Excellent Sunday lunch but the traditional terrible roast

Great decor - simple, but homely. Very friendly feel, with lovely staff and tasty food. Each aspect was 5*. I had tempura vegetables (red pepper, mushrooms and tender stem broccoli) to start, with a curried veg pie for my main. The only thing I can't comment on was the alcohol because I don't drink. Prices weren't cheap, but it was good value.

Friendly staff and enjoyable meal. Fish and chips got the thumbs up from the kid. The salmon was fine if a little bland, steak was good although quite fatty. It is a fattier cut than I usually go for. The crème brûlée was more like lemon curd. Tasty, but lemon curd. One to try again for sure.

Another stunning meal out, beer is great and food just lovely with really nice menu options. Pizzas looked very good and as well as offering take away orders, but the duck and Chicken dishes we had were superb. So glad we came here again rather than heading into town.

Really lovely Sunday lunch. I had roasted pork belly which was moist and well seasoned with crispy crackling around the edge. Well seasoned veg and a gravy pot. Good alternatives for husband who is not into Sunday roasts. The pub itself is cosy and welcoming. Large car park at the rear and online booking system works well. Staff very efficient and friendly. Will look forward to a second visit with family.

Big meals and big flavours. I had potted duck legs for starters followed by loin of pork. It was lovely. Pear and almond tart was a winner. It’s hearty stuff here and you won’t go hungry. Very reasonable too.

Amazing beer garden with beautiful views

Excellent food and service, with some unusual items you wouldn’t expect to find on a pub menu, such as pig cheek and confit duck.

Dropped by Sunday afternoon for lunch as Beningbrough Hall cafe overrun. Fully booked inside however there were a handful of benches free in beer garden and dog accepted. Nice menu with reasonable two/three course price. Food was delivered quickly despite number of diners inside and servers were helpful; I was given a deck chair for my back at end of picnic table. Only downside was usual no real shade from parasol in centre of table.

I had a meal here recently with my family. The service and the meal were excellent. The public house is in the centre of a very picturesque village; a pleasant place to visit. The chicken and mushroom pie was very good.

A welcoming and calm atmosphere with good quality food.

We have been going to the dawnay a few years now and have never had a bad meal! The food is exceptional, the menu is regularly updated with seasonal food so there's always something new to try and we find it a very relaxed environment...

Excellent well run pub with an interesting menu. Well presented dishes, well kept beers and a good selection of wines. Ate here as a party of 10 for lunch and liked it so much we booked again for an evening meal later in the week.
