Deep Blue Fish & Chips in East Riding of Yorkshire

Where do I start Nill star because utter disgusting first of all train your staff to speak to the customer if they don’t like it suggest the p45 especially to the three lads that were on tonight it’s customer service !!! The fish n chips try changing the oil it’s burnt and it sinks in the fish also it don’t cost much to say do you require salt n vinegar not slam the lid down , mushy peas and curry sc jeez I thought I needed a trowel to get them out how thick they were try adding water to thin down and we come to the price asking £33 for one large and two small fish n chips I mushy and a curry bet your clapping your hands because the other chippy is closed 100 times better than you sorry to say don’t normally complain but our tea tonight was crap what a waste of £33 anyone going to this place be very careful unless you wanna eat burnt oil Customer service sorry to say you have none

Ordered fish and chips sausage and chips x2. Sausage wasn't even batteted. Rubbish food. Awful price

Customer service non existent, rude and a lot of eye rolling. Food tends to be served with extra oil.

Very clean and tidy inside. Service was quick and efficient. Good arrived quickly and was very tasty , good portion of chips with a well cooked large piece of cod , my favorite chippy in the area.

We return every week as the fish and chips are always cooked well and taste great. Members of staff are friendly and helpful. The loyalty scheme is also a bonus. Highly recommended.

Although the food was very nice the service wasn't. We ordered online & was directed to "Just Eat" ** DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE AS IT BUMPS THE PRICES RIGHT UP & YOU DON'T GET THE FULL MENU SELECTION** but I didn't realise that until I saw the prices & menu on the actual website... Anyway.. Just Eat gave us a collection time, so we arrived at the shop 2 minutes after the scheduled time, but that was pointless because the staff wanted to get all of the "SHOP ORDERS" out of the way first.. so we had to wait for a further 20minutes from the time were given.. I thought the point of ordering online was to skip the queue.. it's obvious the the place is highly under staffed, but if you make an order with a collection time it should be ready , you shouldn't be put to the back of the queue & have to wait while everyone else's is cooked first!

Brilliant fish and chips shop moved into the area a year ago and it's been a regular spot for tea times, best chippy in the area

Dry crusty chips. A large chips was £2.99 which was more of a medium. Will be using Howden next time as we love between the two.

Bit more expensive compared with other chip shops but you get what you pay for…….. Cracking Fish & Chips!

Deep blue fish and chips is a nice traditional British fish and chip shop. The food was freshly cooked to order when we visited. We had to try the patties, a speciality not often seen outside of Hull. They were more expensive than any of the chip shops in Hull, but they were much deeper. We were very impressed by the large size. The batter was perfect, and they had just the right amount of Sage. The potato was a bit firmer and less fluffy than a traditional Hull Patty. All in all, it was very nice. They also do some interesting lunchtime boxes and special offers for pensioners. It's a nice fish and chip shop.

Very Small portions, asked for well done fish and batter was soggy, would not recommend and will not return.

Peak Friday night on our way to Filey, ordered 3 separate meals as we were eating in car but proceeded to wrap as one which would make it awkward to separate in car & when asked not to wrap sausage with fish proceeded huff, roll eyes & slam pots down after practically emptying entire salt & vinegar pots over our food. Food was ok but way way over priced.

Did have a 5star review on Deep blue but tonight I have decided to change it to only 4 star. Most every Friday we place an order for between 2 and 6 people. In the past few months we have have been missing the odd portion of chips, or curry sauce nothing bad enough that made us want to drive the 6 miles to get what was missing. The inconvenience of having to get what's missing and the fact that we are having a family meal that is then a member down normally stops us. But tonight tried to place order for 5 but the website is down so we go to Deep blue to place order and wait. It wasn't particularly busy when we entered we place the order which was read back to us, and waited. Duly they started out order but we're waiting for some scampi, no probs it arrive we were given our order and we left, I asked my partner as we got into the car if we should check the order but afraid it would make it cold we decided not to. On arrival home get out the meal and we are missing a portion of chips and a battered sausage. 😡 I decide to drive back this time to get them as portions seemed smaller and we could not share it all out. Hence it's time to down grade my review

Easy ordering system. Ready on time. Really nice fish and chips and cooked beautifully. Only downside was the bones I found in my fish which I’ve never had with takeaway fish and chips before. Put me off a little.

Chips were good, fish was dry and very salty. All food is cooked to order so expect to wait if you haven't ordered. Only 2 folk working and I don't know if that's the norm but there was no chat, just order, pay, food, go. 2x fish, chips and mushy peas.......£24.00 😳 😭

Fish and chips have really gone down in quality! Was a lovely fish shop but the last two times the fish was grey snd tasteless, chips awful too and the shop is full of flies, will not be returning.

Expensive £4.00 more than I normally pay for the same just down the road, and not as big portion either as down the road

PRICES ARE RIDICULOUS My husband was working in market weighton and popped in for lunch Iif he had looked at prices before ordering would have drove to next village- as dont like being ripped off . 8 quid nearly for spam chips and peas. Pis& take. NO WONDER IT WAS EMPTY.

Good fish and chips, albeit prices seem to have increased quite a bit. I'd recommend ordering via the online app or during peak times there will be a really long wait.

First time for us at Deep Blue tonight 05.04.23. Fish and chips were nice enough, although the fish seemed a little rubbery. The curry sauce was awful……..too thick, gloopy and cold. And the prices are far too high………almost £30 for two fish and chips, two curry sauce and a bottle of Ben shaws shandy. £1.79 for a curry sauce! £2 for a bottle of pop! We usually go to the scrap box at the end of the A1079, which is always really nice and cheaper. Going by tonight’s experience we will probably be sticking to the scrap box in future.

Ive become a regular now as I call in every Saturday at tea time for our fish and chips, good portions, always hot and tasty. The staff are always polite and friendly.

Gone are those days when it used to be cheap to go to the chippy. 3.20 for chips not even large

Really disappointed with my order..ordered on line 3 large chips spam fritter battered sausage 4 bread cake and scraps 2 mushy peas and one curry sauce! When to pickup got food home only to find we had small chips about a quarter in each box no scraps two of the bread cakes were not even cut open and buttered, & all the food was cold, we rang to complain rude staff wasn’t bothered was offered 1 box of chips but didn’t bother as we live just outside market Weighton, normally food is good, but today it was awful!! I was really looking forward to a treat with the family we paid £22 for a large meal,don’t think we will go back unless it changes? I know the economy is not good at the moment but I payed for a meal I expect to get a good meal & what I ordered not the horrible food I payed for today it’s shame .. but I work hard & wanted to treat my family we don’t get many treat at the moment… don’t recommend them at all ….

Food was ok, nothing exceptional. However , we did not get the curry and mushy peas that we ordered so we had to go back to collect them , then when we were travelling back to Hull the kids realised that their drinks were not given either. Overall a disappointing experience.

Came just before closing last night Managed to get fish cake chips and curry....absolutely beautiful....fish cake was beaut. Young lad was lovely and polite 👍

Had 3 meals from here tonight, usually use the other chippy but thought we’d try this one. Won’t be returning. Fish was absolutely awful left a very sour after taste and the chips were extremely under cooked. None of us ate our meal and we ordered a dominos instead. I wouldn’t give one star if I could. 0/10

Extortionate prices for average food and customer satisfaction seems to be second to making a profit. Another customer had to argue extensively to get her order corrected.

When in the area we always have fish and chips from Deep Blue so yesterday we had 3 fish and chips but they were nothing like usual the chips were ok but the fish was horrible it was thin, small and tasteless and the mushy peas were not nice so won’t be calling in again

We went again the week after and was a big improvement the chips were fresher and not soggy like the week before probably need to cook them in smaller batches so they are fresher and not soggy

Fantastic service and lovely fresh made to order fish. I mean they don't make the fish that allready made but they cook it to order. Clean, smart, nice attention with the boxes and bags. Well worth the money. X

I have been very ill for quite a while, and what with hospital and bedboundness, I haven't had fish and chips (sadly :-( ) for some time. I've seen a couple of recent reviews mentioning price and portion size. Please check other reviews to get an idea of what the current situation is right now. Once *I* know for myself, I will update my review accordingly. I must say that if Harper's/Deep Blue *has* gone bad, that would be a sad, sad thing, as they have been fantastic since 2012, and to lose a great chippy is a real loss *** Original Review: The Best Food, Best Price, Best Staff - by far... Best chippy in the area. The staff are incredibly friendly and cannot do enough for you. The opening hours are generous, but check with the website for exact times so you don't miss out on a mouthwatering treat! Food can be ordered by phone in advance to pick up too - very useful at busy times. But let's get to the food. Fantastic. Truly enormous portions, great flavour and texture, all at competitive prices. Whilst the fish is lovely, my favourite is the Home Made Fish Pattie (or Fish Cake - can never remember the name, luckily the staff know what I mean!) Its a battered ball-shaped thing, with minced lumps of fish, mashed taters and herbs. These things are a meal in themselves, but get some chips and curry or gravy and you've got a big feed. I've been going to Deep Blue since 2012 (it was called "Harper's" back then!), and won't go anywhere else. We've even refused to get food in York or Pock, instead phoning Carole whilst en route to order up a meal to enjoy at home. Why take a chance when the quality is always so reliable? The personal touch has always made me feel that Deep Blue is "our" chippy. The staff ask after my health, and how my wife is keeping. They know my disabilities, and are genuinely concerned. If I do manage to make a rare appearance, they open the door for me and take pains to ensure food is packed for me to carry whilst using my mobility aids. This service is more reminiscent of the 50s, rather than the "hurried, couldn't care less" 21st century attitude that we've all had to get used to. I make no excuses - I love Deep Blue. I love the food. I love the price. I love how easy it is to order (they even have the menu online), I love their attitude. But most of all - I *love* the staff. Carole and the serving ladies are the best "chippy lasses" ever. I'll never go anywhere else. Try them yourself, and you'll be hooked too. So that's Deep Blue, of which I am a happy customer since Jan 2012 and counting...

Not great fish, and too expensive for what it is. The staff have always been friendly when I have been in. They are often open when other fish and chip shops are not, so they've got that going for them at least.

We always drive to Deep Blue as the fish and chips are usually lovely. We got large haddock and chips 3 times last night and the fish was all batter. What little fish there was was like rubber. We won't be going again after last night's experience and expense.

Food was just ok. But I was shocked how expensive it was, I queried the price, and he confirmed it was correct. We normally go to the other chippy in Market Weighton , but last time they had run out of cod, so I thought i would give deep blue a try this time. The same order was £8 more in deep blue, and it didn’t seam as good, so I won’t be returning.

Went here as second choice as my usual chippy in Market Weighton was closed, when he told me how much for 2 large fish, a small chips and peas I was quite shocked as it was over £15 compared to my regular chippy would’ve been £9.60. The fish was tasty and quite nicely cooked but was not very large, also very greasy. It was ok as a sub but I wouldn’t go again at that price, not value for money, I drive 20 mile round trip to Weighton so didn’t want to go home empty handed but at that price I wouldn’t go again

Firstly almost £30 for fish, chips and peas X3. The food was good but not £30 good. The fish was a medium at best sold as a large, and the chips was nice but again limited amount so for me definitely not value for money. Cheap little Ben Shaw drinks been sold for almost £2 is crazy and unnecessary. I was expecting Salt Bae to pop up with the Salt and vinegar for these prices been charged in Yorkshire. OVERRATED AND OVERPRICED sums it up!!

Not a good experience. Fish appeared to have been fried twice. Very tough fish and batter like leather. Some of the chips still raw in the middle.

Flipping good fish n chips here , must be the best around , don't miss out on treating yourself . Friendly customer service too.
