Ego at The Beverley Arms, Ackworth in Wakefield

Always have a great experience here. Has excellent vegan options and is dog friendly. My favourite local place for a meal. Cant recommended this place enough.

I remember The Beverley Arms from years ago, but the re-furbishment is amazing. This Ego is much better than the one at Horbury in all respects. Phill looked after us superbly well, the food was fantastic and we had the most enjoyable 3 hours, no rushing to get us out. Our second visit and we'll definitely be back.

We meet friends here several times a year - four of us altogether. Location very good for this as we each take an hour to get here, combining it with a morning visit to Nostell Priory. Menu is extensive and very varied meaning we can all find something we like including some creative vegetarian dishes. It is also dog friendly which is very important as we always bring our dog. We wouldn't visit if it wasn't! And dog friendly areas aren't tucked away but spaces you'd pick to sit without a dog. The lunch menu and Wednesday menus are particularly good value and as a member I receive other offers during the year. Staff are friendly and professional, welcome excellent. When we visited yesterday our server was Craig and we couldn't have had better service. Really look forward to our visits there!

Not been here for a while, very attentive and friendly staff but took one star off as we had a very long wait for food but she did apologise. The food, chicken and chorizo paella and slow cooked morracon lamb was of a very good standard. We would happily go back again.

We had prawn cocktails for starters and Kebabs for main course, both were delicious.

Sat at our booked table straight away not too busy as 5.30pm Saturday night,we were served by Phil. We asked to be moved as very draughty near the windows and I didn't want to take my coat off. Phil moved us to a warmer spot straight away. Ordered our starter and drinks, food was amazing. Came to our table very quickly didn't have to wait long. Had our main courses but couldn't finish them as outdid ourselves on the starters. Note taken. Absolutely delicious food cannot fault it. A wonderful professional restaurant on our doorstep. Very aptly served by Phil and checked on really well. Thank you Phil and big compliments to the chef. Outstanding dining out.

Havnt been in a while but came for lunch with the family before working away for the weekend now in a good mood well fed and girls are happy. Thanks to Adam our server very attentive and polite will be back soon

Just had an amazing Birthday meal thanks to the team at Ego. A great warm welcome followed by an outstanding meal which was served to us by Levi, such a lovely lady, who helped to make our evening a special one. We done Ego, choice of chefs and the rest ot the team make a visit definitely worthy of a 5 star review. Great dinning experience!

Been taken out for lunch new years day but was not what I expected of such a well rated place. But very disappointed the food of my family was enjoyed but the staff were over worked not informative . The service was very very slow but will not go again and I live local .

Went here for a family meal was starving by the time food arrived 1 and half hours later half the food was cold the other half looked inedible would never go back really we should have gone somewhere good like Miller and Carter

Really slow service, food arrived and was not very hot. Forgot our drinks and we could see them sat on the side for 20+ minutes. Food was mediocre, not worth the price. Staff very pleasant but we were there for nearly 3 hours before we finally finished. It wasn't busy either. Shame as the premises is nice but just not worth the wait.

Came here for a Boxing Day meal with family, lovely food and fantastic service. Great atmosphere, would definitely recommend.

Booked a table today with friends arrived at the restaurant to be stood nearly 10 minutes before being seated . When we finally got shown our tables the manager said I’ll bring the menus over and get you some drinks . We sat there 10 minutes again when said manager looked up and said oh! Clearly he’d forgot about us , fair enough we all forget things . When we challenged him about our wait he snapped at us saying he was busy and we weren’t the only people here and he was on his own . He sent a trainee waitress over at this point drinking coffee out of a Costa coffee cup (not a good look ) ! We then expressed our feelings about being left just sat there to her and the girl then snapped at us again saying that she’d only just arrived at work and it was nothing to do with her . At this point we just got our stuff and left . The place wasn’t really that busy and to be honest if they treat all their customers this way I’m not surprised it was empty . Definitely wouldn’t go back and I will be telling others the same !!!

Stunning! In what looks like a well dressed and maintained pub there is this Mediterranean restaurant. It almost feels like a secret club. Amazing and attentive staff, a wide selection of options and pretty reasonable prices too! A must try for Wakefield

We have been here many times with family and as a couple. We do love it. But I felt compelled to mention the cauliflower steak! As a vegetarian we don’t get much choice and sometimes feel there’s no imagination that goes into the food which is why I ordered the cauliflower steak on the steak menu offer £19.50 for 2 courses I think it is. I’m glad I didn’t pay full price cos it is not value for money and is a downright rip off to be honest. For a slither of cauliflower (cut to the shape of steak) with seasoning sprinkled on top, half of a beef tomato, large mushroom, chips and a small pile of rocket I think is a lot of money to pay when meat eaters get a steak for the same price. It won’t stop me going here, but I certainly won’t order the cauliflower steak again and to be quite frank, I think it should be removed from the menu. It gives the word ‘steak’ a bad name.

Visited here recently for a special occasion. After waiting to be greeted we had to go find someone. The place had only just opened and there was only two people in the place before we arrived. It took an hour and a half to be served our food (2 out of the 4 of us ordered off the lunch menu). There were other people complaining that the service was slow yet some people who came in after us were seated, fed and left before we even received our food so I'm not sure what was actually going on. The food was mediocre and not hot considering. Appeared as though it had been left waiting for someone to bring it. I emailed the company but after a week they haven't responded so that's why I have left the review. The staff were nice enough just very slow overall service. We had driven 30 minutes to visit this particular pub and were greatly disappointed. Wouldn't recommend. Update: 4 weeks later and still no response from the restaurant regarding our complaint.

This was a disappointing visit as I wrote like ego as a chain. I ordered the duo of Pork which was a Serrano wrapped fillet and some pork belly. The latter was tasty enough but the fillet was dry almost to being inedible. I was the closest I have been to sending something back for a long time, but I was absolutely starving so I just gave my jaw a real workout. Desserts were nothing worthwhile either a tiramisu with little coffee flavour and too much sponge. Described as a torte but ending up as neither. The coffee was good though. Front of house staff were fab. I would hope I just picked up a dud plate. (Also apologies the picture of the pork is abysmal, it was either hunger shakes or eagerness to eat !)

Food was top class, great atmosphere. Service was good as far as hospitality goes, but got the order of 3 drinks wrong, then had to ask 15 later as they came after the food was served. Then charged for us for the faulty drink order, realised after checking the Receipt, so had to go back for a refund which was a bit embarrassing! 🙄

Disappointed 😞 Looked forward to this but it was a very poor experience. The starter came and we thought it was very nice, but unfortunately it went down hill from there. The order for my main was third choice as the first two things they didnt have. The mains for four of us took over an hour to arrive, which considering there was only another couple of tables with people on them was a surprise. The lamb I had was luke warm at best, having waited so long I thought I would just eat it, the roast potatoes well the less said the better. The pasta was cold and got sent back, it arrived back less than two minutes exactly the same. In the end they ask if we wanted something else. My sons dish consisted lamb and cus cus but the cus cus was solid and clumpy. We have been to the Horbury branch many many times and it has always been superb.

Food was very late, over 40 minutes wait; others who came in after served food before us. Supervisor approached who after referring to his boss gave drinks.. first time happened but needs reviewing

Just been to the ego the food was fantastic and so was the service. Levi was our waitress she was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed.

Waited far too long for our food after ordering, staff seemed stretched and rushed.. our conatacts Tess and Phil were very personable and friendly however ,let down by the overall experience.

Beautiful food: We had the mixed hanging kebab and the duo of pork. Cooked to perfection. Staff, including Megan, were friendly and helpful. Really great service. If we are ever in the area again, would definitely revisit.

I have recently started going to Ego regularly. I mainly go there with friends for lunch. The menu has one of the best choices for miles around. The atmosphere is relaxing and yesterday I went with friends for lunch. I had not seen them for many years and the staff were quite comfortable with us staying for three hours. I can highly recommend this venue.

Went with my girlfriend and her son and they both had food and said it was very nice unfortunately I'd been to the dentist 2 hours previous and my face was still numb so passed on the grub but Guinness was well kept . Busy as well at 5pm . Well done out and spacious attentive staff would definitely recommend and will definitely return and try the food.

Came for lunch today. There were about 10 customers in the whole restaurant. Our food (couple of wraps and a pizza) took over 1 hour to arrive. Waitress was really nice and pleasant but kitchen area was rediculously slowwwww. Won't be rushing back I'm afraid.

Waited a very long time for food. Staff seemed un phased .£10 Kebab night, my Kebab @ £20 had 4 pieces of meat and copious amounts of vegetables. Poor value !!!! Childs meal ( chicken tenders ) were very dry so must have been overcooked. We won’t be returning couldn’t wait to leave.

We visited for a birthday meal and chose the £40 for 2 deal. My starter of toasted goat’s cheese and Jen’s beetroot chutney was delicious, as was my partner’s gambas al pilpil. For the main course we both chose chicken Milanese with fries and a side salad, all of which was excellent. We had a bottle of house white wine, which went very well with everything. Our server, Elle, was charming and efficient, as always. All the staff looked happy in their jobs and it was a lovely atmosphere. We shall be back soon.

Recently visited Ego for Sunday dinner, on arrival we were sat down to the table to be told there was no beef. I would understand if we visited at the end of food service but our reservation was 15:00. I then ordered a bottle of wine to be told they had no wine left and the alternative was another bottle which was £7 more expensive. When the meal came the green beans were rock hard and the plate was overloaded with cabbage. Due to them running out of beef we had to then pay an additional £4 each for Lamb. So overall we had to pay an additional £15 on top of our bill for a fault on their behalf. We have eaten here numerous times and it’s always been quite pleasant, however I will not be visiting for Sunday lunch again!

Me and my team have visited this restaurant multiple times, hoping that the service would improve, but unfortunately, it’s been consistently disappointing. The food is pretty average to be honest, and the ambiance is ok, but the service is incredibly slow. Each time we gone, we had to wait far longer than expected to receive our food. They do not even offer complimentary bread and butter or anything like that to keep guest occupied. It’s clear that they are either understaffed or poorly managed because the wait time seems to be an issue regardless of how busy they are. It’s unfortunate because this place has potential, but the slow service makes it hard to enjoy the dining experience. Unless they improve, I won’t be returning anytime soon. If you have the patience of a saint, give it a try; otherwise, I’d recommend looking elsewhere

Value for money with 2 4 1 fresh cocktails and a well priced lunch menu. Staff were very friendly with us and our dogs and nothing was too much trouble. Nice to have a decent dog friendly pub/restaurant where dog owners areas are still nicely decorated and well positioned. Will definitely go again.

Visited tonight with my friends and my 4 month old son. Food lovely as always, good value offer of 2 courses for £19 before 17:30. Service was excellent, my baby had fallen asleep when the mains came and one of the staff members (sorry didn't catch a name but training to be a nurse) even offered to hold him while I ate my food (I've got used to doing things one handed but thought this was such a kind thing to offer!) Will definitely be back 😊

Since it’s refurb emailer this year I’ve visited several times for meals which have all been excellent along with all the staff who are so friendly/attentive It’s a fantastic place with plenty of options The referb has made such a difference for that cozy dining experience now 🙌🏼

Been quite a few times before, meals are always lovely. But would just like to mention one girl in particular, Holly that brought us over a plate that she had made up for my mum for her birthday, it had fruit with chocolate over it. We did not ask her to do this she brought it over to us we were shocked at first, she said she overheard us. I just think she deserves a mention has it was a lovely thing to do & it made my Mums day so again Thank you :-)

Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea. Everything was delicious and full of flavour. Friendly service and nice atmosphere on a busy Saturday. Only £15.95 per person (£5 extra for a glass of prosecco or a gin and tonic). Available Monday to Saturday between 2 - 3:30pm, you need to book in advance. They also offer 2 for 1 cocktails 2 - 4pm daily so you can combine the two deals. Nice way to spend an afternoon!

Getting a cold hot meal. A steak & Ale pie want mash but got over cook chips. Other people got served before us and a table of 4.

Not too impressed, which is a shame. Nice premises, good location, pleasant staff..... but... When I booked, the slot gave me 90 minutes. If you're going to allocate slots, service needs to be quicker. Took 50 minutes once ordered to food arriving. The paella was mushy, only found 3 small pieces of chicken and it was tasteless. The mini dessert - Raspberry and White Eton mess - 🤔 no raspberries, just crispy sprinkles, and and served on a red hot plate, probably straight out of the dishwasher/steriliser with the cream melting.....yuk.... Our visit was our treat after 3 exhausting days with grandchildren. With today's prices, and I don't mind spoiling myself, I expect value for money and good standards. If your going to allocated times slots..... then 'jump to it'..... My husbands meal was OK. We would return, it's a nice place, it deserves a 2nd chance.

Levi's service at Ego was outstanding tonight. We visit often, but she truly excelled this evening. From the moment we arrived, her attention to detail and friendly demeanor made our experience exceptional. She anticipated our needs, offered excellent recommendations, and ensured everything was perfect throughout our meal. Levi's professionalism and warmth are why we keep coming back, and tonight she went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. We can't wait to return and hope to be served by her again.

Brilliant time for mum on her 90th birthday. Food excellent and service excellent- thank you Elle and Georgina. From the bucks fizz for mum as a gift from the venue to dessert for those who wanted them the experience was amazing. Many thanks to Elle for her patient and knowledgeable dealings with the dairy/wheat averse relatives who got what they needed without fuss. We'll be back

Just wanted to say we had a lovely time tonight, our server was attentive and always happy to help despite us throwing her some challenges. My daughter had a milk allergy and she was catered for with care. The food was delicious and despite a slight miscommunication by me in terms of timings, the server did what she could to ensure this was fixed as quickly as possible. Would definitely return.

Food was fantastic. Service was very slow, seems like we were forgotten about whilst a neighbouring table saw two separate groups of people have 3 course meals and go. Conservatory room was very hot and stuffy, needs some fans.

I’ve noted the negatives left by others but first time here with friend for her bday and it was the best food selection available. Initially had seen the ad on Facebook for the summer mocktails and cocktails selections and thought finally a place with a range of mocktails for the designated drivers such as myself. The range wasn’t huge but each one we tried was amazing. Very refreshing and punchy… we had the tropical pineapple and then strawberry mocktails amongst others. Love love love!!! Ordered the calamari starter and garlic mushrooms and came out piping hot and cooked amazing. Yes it looked and tasted amazing - not overly cooked or dripping in oil etc. The mains we went for the carte menue and at two or three course option the prices were v good. It saved going through the rest of the menu which had an array of different dishes which all appeared sooo memorising we decided let’s narrow it down and stick with the set options and that narrows the range down abit more. The prawn and chillie linguine and friend ordered the chicken dish …. Both arrived piping hot. Ok if compared to bella italia yes Bella italia is amazing in its food but you can feel it - it’s can be heavy and quickly can become food coma. These dishes here today - cooked to perfection. The chicken was crispy in right places with amazing sauce. Rich and and delish. The linguine - abs perfection. In my opinion you can get this right or wrong and often the king prawns (as were in this dish) are often rubbery and over done. Not this one! It was cooked perfect and the pasta was light, not stodgy like some places and tasted v healthy. The chillie was the right hit - enough to make your mouth tingle and feel that warmth every after eating but not soo hot you’re burning your mouth out. It was fresh , tasted fresh and felt v v healthy… some places can feel too greasy and stodgy but not this. I abs enjoyed this dish. Then for dessserts… this is the crucial thing : it’s either have one and let it ruin the taste of the mains / over power what you have eaten with the hit of all the sweetness and launch you into a foods coma or not have one. We decided to risk it. In come the choc and salted caramel tart with ice cream and for me the rhubarb and gin crumble with ice cream. I DO NOT REGRET. This again perfectly complemented everythin we ate - the right level of richness but not heavy and cooked from fresh. This dessert unlike other places did not put us in a food coma. It was the right portions and the right tastes which meant that each dish didn’t undermine the other and perfectly complemented eachother with no risk of feeling overwhelmed or stuffed beyond stupid. People complain about the service but the drinks and started arrived v quick. You have to allow enough time between the drinks and the starters and then between starters and the mains. There was I feel enough wait time between each which was 10-15 mins at most. The staff was absolutely amazing - kept making sure we were okay, food was ok and if we needed anything. It maybe that it wasn’t overly busy - but enough to keep them going - they have a separate room they hire out for private events regularly so they were busy attending to that too but this never affected their attention towards us . Not sure who the lovely gent was (maybe manager / supervisor) had spikey hair but was abs delight to speak to - he on hand to answer any questions, ran off the sort of menus and specials they ran on each day (which is different everyday and he literally had it all memorised ; all done without referring back t any thing.) and an absolute delight all round. Whoever he is I hope they keep him permanently & not lose him. He kept checkin if the food was ok etc if we needed anything. He made us feel v comfortable. The place itself it’s absolutely big - you don’t realise that on looking from the outside and had ample parking which is a bonus. Easy to get to and leave. It’s abs clean, great decor and overall We loved the ambience -& feel to it. Really relaxed dining & the mental peace & Q and uplift we needed. TY!

Food arrived in stages for people ? Kids meals arrived very late !! Steak grissly and I was surprised at £25 there was chips and a tomato!?? Staff not the best and they asked for feedback and so I told them ..Don't know what they will do with it???? Water for the table was brought after we had eaten our mains ?? 31 guests who generally spent at least £20 plus each, treat customers better amd they may return !! Lastly asked who wanted desert ? Sat here and I had ordered ? Why weren't you aware of it ???????? You have lost 31 guests through our bad treatment .

Eleven of us attended for a birthday meal on a Monday evening from 7pm, 12 months on from eleven of us saying we'd never return after an appalling experience. Surely lightening couldn't strike twice. Unfortunately it did. Leaving that place knowing they'd had a few hundred quid off us genuinely felt like someone had punched me in the stomach. The service was appalling. Constant chasing on our part for drinks, no communication on why starters and mains were delayed......just an overall feeling that nobody was in charge. No management presence. The food itself was nice. Nothing to swoon over but nice. Such a shame that this place is all shiny, sparkling to look at but has nothing to back it up.

Have been here a few times, the food is good but nothing special, which wouldn't be so bad but it's quite expensive (around £25 per head for Sunday lunch including a drink - a pint of coke is £4.95). Service is generally good, but had a 3 course meal where for 2 of the courses my partner and I were served our food and my child was left to wait, which was a bit upsetting for them. There's some great value carveries around the area that are definitely worth a visit ahead of here.

Starter, garlic mushrooms good, main course shocking. Pan fried chicken, dry overcooked, sauce none existent, gnocchi, chef obviously has no idea what that is because what we got did not resemble gnocchi, it was slimy goo. Very disappointed, will never return

The staff were very lovely - kind and attentive. However the food took far too long to arrive and when it did it was dry and overcooked. Staff were waiting around at the hotplate for a long time waiting for food to be ready.

Enjoyed a leisurely lunch in pleasant surroundings. Staff were welcoming and friendly and the service was excellent. We had two courses, starter and main and drinks. The food was tastefully presented and most enjoyable. We shall visit again!

Absolutely amazing. We sat in the conservatory. We had starters and full Sunday roast with 3 different meats. Can't fault a thing. The food, the service and the place all faultless. I can't believe that we've only just found this place for food! I've driven past it for years but will be a firm favourite from now on.
