Smallest steaks I've ever seen and table service so bad ya have to fetch you're own drinks from the the bar because the staff are too busy talking . This place was recommended to me . How low must people's standards of service be ....

My friend and I had a table booked at 1.45pm. We were served by Charlotte and were extremely impressed. Charlotte was very pleasant and helpful and it was such a pleasure to be served by her. It costs nothing to be pleasant and polite and she certainly gave us a tremendous service, which quite frankly is usually in short supply these days. We will be looking for Charlotte to serve us the next time we are in. The food was excellent and also the service. Thanks Charlotte

Went to Ego to congratulate my sister's birthday. A party of 14 adults and one child. Service was terrible 3 adult meals didn't come until the rest of the party had nearly finished eating. Side orders came when customers were nearly done eating their main meal. Had to ask staff to take an order for drinks and were not offered again. When i spoke to the Manager his reply was he only had 2 chefs working. This was booked has a celebration meal at £35.00 per head. All the food was preordered. This is an issue for the managers of Ego and NOT their paying customers. I was totally disgusted with the service and the meals that were served. Some meals came late and others were only luke warm. When speaking to the manager about the above issues £100 was knocked off the bill. That included the service charge ( which i would have refused to pay anyway )so only £50 was knocked off the total bill. When booking the table they said we had to leave the table by 8pm. But because the service was so poor we didn't leave till 9.30pm. seeing the table was booked at 6pm I'm totally appalled with our visit to Ego and will not be visiting again. Poor service and food delivered to a birthday celebration.

Lovely place. Would love to be able to to have some sort of light lunch or snack lunch. Not sure why they don't do that.

Our table was booked for 19:30 we arrived a little early but still had to queue and wait for 30 minutes to be seated. We ordered a main course only, due to how busy it was. Our food eventually arrived at 21:35. Some 90 minutes after ordering, we were just about to leave without dining. The portion sizes were small and the food was cold. The following day both myself and my husband had upset stomachs having both eaten the sea bass. During the waiting time we spoke to 2 waitresses about the delay. The first waitress said ‘we are busy’ and walked away and made no effort to even check, the second waitress was apologetic and very pleasant, thank you. We have been coming to Ego Hollybush for over 25 years but can honestly say we have never experienced such poor service and poor quality of food. I won’t be returning in a hurry. Very disappointing.

Absolute shambles. Waited half an hour to be even seen at the front desk to be shown to our table. 2 hours later starters still hadn't arrived. No structure to this place, staff or service. Staff didn't appear to know what was happening. Asked to see the manager who eventually arrived at out table over half an hour after asking only to be told 2 chefs down blah blah. Did not pay for drinks and will never be visiting again. Shame it ruined my sons birthday meal. Only gave 1 star as couldn't leave less

Extremely disappointed. Getting told we have 2 hours before sitting down 20 minutes to take food order 1 hour 25 minutes for food to come (had to chase after watching the table next to us eat mains, dessert and pay) I came last week and the food was amazing. This week it was very poor. Had the same. There was no glaze, the chicken was dry. The chargrilled vegetables weren't chargrilled. Another meal the portion was small. The other meal had to be substituted as didn't have what originally wanted. Staff are friendly to talk to....when you finally find them to ask a question. No one checked if the meal was OK. Currently waiting for plates to be cleared - 10 minutes and counting. I'm shocked over the 2 different experiences in a week.

We are regulars at Ego for a midweek Lunch. Today was the first time we were served by Charlotte. She was friendly, polite and so accommodating. The food was lovely as always.

Had a lunch with some work colleagues and it was great. We were told the area chef was in the kitchen which may explain why the food was a lot better than the last time we visited.

4 hours it's taken to go though 3 course meal Service is slow and I'll not be returning any time soon

Christmas Eve 2024. Food was nice, service very rushed (wasn't as busy when we were eating) We had our starters, mains, desserts within one hour. We even commented to the waitress how fast/rushed it was. Mains arrived before starter had finished and other people's starter plates were still on the table. One person had to use starter cutlery as it hadn't been taken away and mains cutlery hadn't been given. Spent around £180. Been here many times, but never had this level of service. First time I never left a tip. Bar man very nice, friendly, rushed off his feet, you didn't mind waiting as you could see how busy he was, he could do with a few pair of hands inside the bar! the counter was full of empty glasses, bar tables were full of empty ones as well I even started to clear our own tables.

Extremely disappointed. We had a table booked for 11 of us on Boxing Day for months, having paid a deposit of £110 to secure the booking. We turned up and the place was pure chaos. There was no one manning the front desk and more than 20+ people waiting to be seated. We waiting for 25 minutes and not one person came to greet us. Even just someone popping over to apologise for the wait and explain the situation would have gone a long way. Staff were actively ignoring and avoiding eye contact to the massive queue of people (that was now running out the front door). We had booked a table in the conservatory, so I went to check it out whilst waiting - all three tables in the conservatory at this point were still eating their starters, 15 minutes after we were meant to be seated. We had three children under 5 with us and my mum is disabled, so standing and waiting for much longer without any information or compensation just wasn’t an option. We actively had to hunt down a staff member to refund our deposit. Greed had clearly taken control here and owners/senior management had taken on too many bookings with pound signs in their eyes.. I felt sorry for the young waiting staff who were completely overwhelmed.

Quite disappointing, they had obviously booked way to many tables for what they could cope with. We arrived for 3:15 and it took well over 3 hours just for us to have 2 courses we gave up on ordering a dessert, wasn't sure how long it would take. Food was nice but spoilt because of the wait. Staff were just to stretched to take the amount of numbers booked.

Absolutely shocking service! We had a table booked for 15 people. We were waiting ages for our table at first, as it 'wasn't ready' although it was ready the entire time, just no body was free to show us to it. Table was booked for 8 o'clock, starter was pretty quick, but then it all went down hill. We were waiting about 50 mins for our main, and when it did come out it was literally just chucked on the plate with no flavour whatsoever and lumpy mash. The desert then took over an hour!! When it did come out, we still had to wait for 3 more deserts. We had another table booked at 10 for drinks and karaoke in another venue, and ended up losing the table. We got fed uo of waiting so the 3 deserts we were still waiting for nearly an hour and half later, ended up being bought out wrapped in cling film, and when asking for a manager there wasnt one in sight! This was supposed to have been our works Xmas night out and it was just completely ruined!! And on top of it all, after spending nearly £600 on food plus drinks, they couldn't even spare a £20 voucher to donate at our school Xmas fayre! Absolutely shocking, won't be going back any time soon!

Avoid lamb shank. They make it very hard to eat and very little vegetables with it. Try eating soup with a knife and fork. The staff have blamed it on the owners.

I had Moroccan Lamb which was nice but hardly any lamb in the dish. Had to remind them that we had ordered a side dish with our mains which seemed to take a while to come. Ordered another drink which never appeared so I asked them to cancel it.

Ego is a pleasant pub restaurant to visit. Surrounding decor is pleasing to the eye. The food is generally good. Staff are friendly and responsive to requests. Holly was our main server. But the other two ladies who served us were great too. Give it a go.

I attended here on 21st November 2024 for my birthday with my partner. We had a lovely experience the food was delicious and very tasty. Service by Charlotte was amazing she is an absolute bundle of joy. She checked if everything was ok with the food, she spent time talking to us and many other customers. She seemed to put a lot of smiles on many customers as I saw them leaving. Charlotte served us with a smile every time, she was kind, friendly and approachable, I would happily say she is a delightful worker for your restaurant. My wife and I enjoyed a really nice Tuesday Steak Experience at Ego Stockton Brook. Apart from the food which was top notch (the sirloin was cooked to perfection) we were looked after extremely well by Charlotte who was friendly, attentive and who was able to give us just enough time to make our evening special. At the end of the meal I was pleased to tell her that she would make a wonderful daughter!

Charlotte who served us was lovely , friendly and professional . The food however was not up to usual standard . My husband always has garlic bread but it was dry and crispy , the chips were dry and stuck together , the ice cream was almost melted through . We arrived at 5.30 and didn’t leave until 8.25. The table next to us, who arrived after us had finished their 2 course meal , paid and left before we had been served our main meal . Altogether disappointing this time and we are regular customers, we will return however and hopefully have a better experience next time . Thank you Meg Clowes

This is the second time we have had Charlotte as a server and both times we have been blown away with her friendly attitude and relaxed personality. She's an asset to the EGO team!

We were shown our table at 6pm, it wasn't busy and there was lots of staff about. Our wine was quickly put on the table, the waitress did not open it or show us the label to check if we had the wine we ordered. We then waited for 20 mins before being asked for our food order even though we tried our best to attract someone, TBH the waiting staff were standing groups having a laugh with the kitchen staff or chatting to colleagues, we finally attracted a waitress she took our order and the food arrived promptly. No-one asked us how our meal was or if we had enjoyed our visit. To sum up, a decent meal spoiled by poor service. Addition to review 27/10/24, Three weeks after our visit Egos replied to my review, they asked me to call and speak with a manager, which I did, I was told that due to being busy she would take my number and return my call in 10 minutes, 3 days later I am still waiting for that call. This re-enforces my complaint that the management and customer facing staff at Egos would benefit from additional training.

It was okay but staff seemed to lack training and communication lacked. Massive Yorkshire puddings fill the Sunday roast plates so that they serve small portions of meat. Overall there are better places.

Really disappointed with our meal yesterday. Ego is my favourite place to eat however yesterday was really poor for a Tuesday night. The lady who took us to our table was so un welcoming. We waited 45 minutes for our starter, over an hour for the main and 40 minutes for the pudding. being there for 3 hours was crazy. Both ordered the same pudding and one came with ice cream and the other one didn’t so it had to be sent back. No apologies for delays in food and poor service. Not good and put me off going back which is disappointing

The steak here is always worth it, this time we had scallops and they were beautiful. We also love the cocktails, finished off with espresso martinis instead of a dessert! The staff are always friendly and helpful and cater perfectly for my allergy.

We visited last night for the first time. Everything was excellent but especially the young lady who showed us to our table. I had booked the conservatory due to my husband being hard of hearing but she showed us a number of tables to choose from. She really was excellent. We will definitely be back

Been to Ego a few times and the food and service has always been really good. We were booked for 6.30pm 16 of us. It was booked 2 weeks. Prior. We eventually got to sit at a table and served food. 8.30pm by a very miserable waitress. In our group there were 4 children . Waiting. The waitress informed us the people on the table were 1 hour late.
