Ellison's Of Low Fell in Gateshead

Ellison’s is fantastic, and we’re so lucky to have such a great spot here in the Fell. I’ve been for brunch, Sunday dinner and tapas, and all have been excellent. When it comes to cooked breakfasts and Sunday roasts, I’m not easily impressed as I’m picky about the quality of ingredients, but at Ellison’s it’s all top notch produce and perfectly cooked. Probably the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had in a restaurant.

Food is very nice and made with quality ingredients. Staff are friendly and kind. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Coffee is excellent quality. Nice atmosphere.

A spontaneous visit with my baby granddaughter in her pram was a real treat. Staff were very accommodating for us, moving the table around for the pram, and had my tea ready on the table while I was getting myself organised. There was a lovely, calm and relaxed atmosphere, and I enjoyed a top notch BLT and a great pot of tea. Many thanks!

Popped in on Sunday for breakfast and was well impressed, we had various dishes between us but I went for the full English with a Mocha to wash it down and loved every mouthful. So many tasty looking things on the menu it was hard to choose but it hit the spot. We will definitely be back - thank you!

Popped in for coffee with my husband. Placed our order sat and waited. A couple call in for drinks to take away they were served with their drinks whilst we still waited. To make matters worse the lattes tasted of coffee flavoured hot milk. £4 for a hit milk that we didn't order. We have noticed these last few weeks that the lattes are not as good as they used to be. We really rated your coffee . It seems that you have possibly changed brands or are using a different strength and are wanting your customers to pay for extra shot which I will definitely not do!!! I have spoken to friends who say they have noticed the difference in the coffee and they are talking about going elsewhere. Bear in mind if your customers go elsewhere you also loose out on pastries as well. I would also like to say the service is very poor and has been for quite awhile. Very disappointing. Bring back the original coffee you used to use your customers deserve better

My nephew Kenneth introduced me to Ellisons, it is his local restaurant. Food was delicious, staff very attentive without being over bearing and atmosphere was great. The owners are very welcoming, fun and friendly. I live in Cheltenham but when I visit my family, Ellisons is now on the menu.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time in this local cafe. Highly recommend. Portion sizes are excellent and the atmosphere is really friendly.

I do understand that fresh food will take time to be prepared, but 2 cokes shouldn’t take 10 mins to come to the table. There were also other delays that I didn’t mention, for example I asked for salt and pepper when our meals arrived and that took 5 minutes to bring it. Even the table next to us were complaining about the service time. With regards food quality, it’s never been an issue on previous visits but the chefs should clearly be able to see that the chicken burger wasn’t up to standard. I maybe should, but didn’t mention the issues to the staff, but then your staff never checked to see if everything was ok with the meals and when I asked for the bill they didn’t even print one off, just but the card machine in front of me the the items on it. I tried to be fair with this review as I’ve had many great meals at Ellison’s and would never want to discourage anyone trying it as it is a great restaurant, but recently the service has been getting worse and I think it is important to let you know.

The service is so slow. Takes ten minutes to take drink orders, then another ten minutes just to bring two drinks. It took one hour from entering restaurant to receive food. Food quality is generally good, but the chicken burger on the lunch menu had very little chicken in it mostly overcooked bread crumbs. Fabulous brunch paired with great service.

A wonderful place to dine. Unbelievable value for money - the Sunday Lunch is perfect and quite special. As for the desserts, I can't recommend them 'all' enough. The service is consistently brilliant and friendly. A very special place...

Beautiful coffee shop, the staff were all very friendly. Excellent quality tea and coffee. The baked goods looked fantastic! Disappointed that there were no gluten free baked goods available. The menu looked fantastic, will have to return for brunch. Clean and lovely atmosphere. Update: I did indeed return for food, delicious! I was so impressed with the staff, they were so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure my allergens were taken seriously. A coeliac friendly place with plenty of gluten free options. Amazing!

I have to write a review again after reading the recent bad review regarding Ellisons. Three of us went for Sunday lunch & it was outstanding. It is so difficult to master a good tasty Sunday lunch ( don’t sack the Chef!) which was superb. I believe in honest straight reviews but before writing a review sort it out at the Restaurant! I wish the owners & Staff at Ellisons a merry Christmas & a prosperous new year & see you soon!

1st time here for the £25 for 3 courses Sunday lunch or £27 if you wanted the Festive Turkey option. We had one of each. Bruschetta starter landed well with her that must be fed, whilst my meatballs disappointed a bit as the tasty tomato sauce did not make up for them being a bit cold. Then the food went off the scale. I had the turkey dinner and it was outstanding with a great range of vegetables with lots of effort put into them. Lovely roasties, spring onion mash, mashed turnip, roast parsnip, broccoli, sprouts with bacon and great Yorkshire pudding and a gravy boat. Best roast I’ve had for many years. Despite being really full I then had the chocolate orange mousse which was also rich and delicious with layers of orange, chocolate and chocolate pieces. Across the table was a roast beef and then a summer fruits cheesecake. Service from the entire team was warm and friendly and a nice, modern small but perfectly formed restaurant. Well done.

I've heard good things about Ellison's and had a friend visiting so thought it a great opportunity to pay a visit. I did book a table in advance and it was quite busy by 10-10.30. We both had tea (teapot each) and I ordered the steak and eggs, I was asked how I wanted the steak. It came in good time and the steak was cooked as requested. It was very delicious and good value (£15, when many dishes were £12-14). Overall good service, nice atmosphere and great food.

Visited for some Sunday Bunch and was not disappointed! Food was cooked to order and delicious! Staff were lovely and welcoming from start to finish. We’ll definitely be back!

Totally let down on my 2nd visit to Ellisons, it took 10 mins to get waiter over to ask if id like water or coffee, then another 25 minutes to ask what we would like to order , then 35 minutes to bring a over rated and cold full English breakfast with no black pudding as you have to pay more for that , a full English means everything, they must be foreign so fair enough but waiting time was a disaster, not coming back to get stung like that again. Nice on pictures and instagram for the brainwashed, not all its made out to be

Enjoyed a lovely birthday brunch here with my brother. We got the full English (with black pudding), the truffled wild mushrooms (with a hash brown), and the Ellison's Hash. All of them were delicious. Highly recommend!

First time in here first 🥇 class food out of this world 🌍 fresh locally bought in for breakfast/Brunch booked 📚 table for two 10.45 am arrived 10.35am shown upstairs straight away offered jug of water 💦 two glasses atmosphere very good busy will be going back if you are going to visit I would book 📚 to be safe making sure you can get a seat 🪑 fantastic place respect to the Cooks 🤝🫶🙏.

I absolutely loved this place! The menu offers a great variety, including gluten-free options. The coffee was wonderfully aromatic and beautifully presented, while the food was fresh and of high quality. The service was flawless. I stumbled upon this spot by accident, but it turned out to be the best mistake of the year. I visited with a friend, but next time, I’ll definitely bring my wife. Couldn’t recommend it more!

This place is a little gem, had an amazing breakfast wife my wife, the food was so tasty and we will definitely be going back.

First time visiting Ellisons and it was excellent. Only made aware of it from the 'Newcastle Foodie' group and what a delight. We all had the Sunday lunch, the quality of the ingredients was superb and service were all faultless, not to mention really good value for money at £20 for 2 courses and £25 for 3 courses. My only disappointment was being too full to sample their wonderful dessets - will definitely be back ! :) Also, a massive plus for me it that the music in the restaurant was subtle and didn't over power the atmosphere, no shouting to make yourself heard !

Don’t quite understand the 4.8 rating as my visit did not reflect this. Ordered the cod sandwich for lunch where initially I thought “what a big portion!”, however I was soon disappointed to discover that I had 3 portions of cod inside (each piece smaller than a fish finger). The majority of the sandwich was filled with coleslaw, which may I just add was incredibly salty to the point it was almost inedible. This was £13 btw. I absolutely hate complaining in restaurants as I find it incredibly awkward and don’t want to be a pain especially that the staff were actually really friendly. Anyway, I would say there’s plenty other cafe’s around with better food for a more reasonable price too.

What a fantastic way to spend our 30th Wedding Anniversary, changed venue after the View at Tynemouth offered what we both thought was a very limited and lacking in imagination menu First time bringing my wife here usually business lunches, we started with drinks pornstar martini for the lady and a Diet Coke for myself The menu was impressive and brunch was also still ok to order, starters arrived papas bravas and a Pear and shallot onion baghi which was Devine perfectly cooked Then the main event steak strips served with very well seasoned potatoes my main was full English which was irresistible even ordered a freshly baked Stottie to make a perfect bacon buttie The service was amazing very attentive and friendly, it was a joy to watch the chefs prepare food due to open kitchen This place is faultless give it a try worth the journey Well done all

First time going here and I was craving an iced latte, it was lovely and the atmosphere was very modern and cozy - definitely coming back 🩷

A fabulous experience from start to finish. Service was excellent from the whole team; attentive but not overly so. All the tapas dishes we chose were beautifully presented and tasted wonderful, with fresh, good quality produce. There was one dish we had mistakenly ordered, not realising it contained an ingredient we both don’t enjoy - our fault, and we didn’t expect another plate, but we appreciate being asked if we’d like something else. Desserts were also first rate. Would also like to mention the fabulous playlist! Thanks to you all - you have a great place here, provide food of excellent quality and have chosen and trained staff very well - we will certainly return.

Family meal tonight for restaurant week deal. Absolutely delicious! Service was brilliant especially Darcey and Ellen . 5* choice was excellent and each one was spot on☺️

Never tried this restaurant before so when my son suggested it for Sunday lunch…. Arrived for 1.15pm and escorted to our table. Restaurant light bright and seemed busy. I went for a la carte bruschetta followed by Sirloin steak both were good & a side order of cauliflower cheese. My son has lamb kofta followed by Roast beef which he said the kofta was only Luke warm but was fine tasty. We both finished with dessert a biscotti cheesecake & a chocolate mousse both delicious. Drinks were excellent burrito on draught & we both had Prosecco. The only problem which was not a problem as such was we had only ordered more drinks (2.15) were then told they needed the table for more customer, they should have informed us on booking or even when we ordered our food. Having said all I am excited to visit again in the near future. Spend £100 for two well worth it!

A warm friendly welcome and comfortable surroundings. Really tasty food, a real treat for anyone that appreciates quality ingredients. Presented well and washed down with really good coffee. Keep doing what you’re doing. We’ve found our new go to local place for a lovely treat.

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning (4 of us). You have to book in advance as it's so popular. Fab food, and all freshly cooked. I had the full English. The chorizo hash brown was a tasty surprise and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Milk shake to finish off was very nice.

It is quite expensive in here but it is well worth it. The food is well presented and has a mixture of nice flavours. The staff are friendly, efficient and hard working.

Really tasty Sunday family lunch with excellent friendly staff with hands on owner. Lovely menu offering with additional Sunday lunch specials including bouillabaisse and beef bourginonne. Yummy desserts included sticky toffee pudding and berry crumble. Recommended.

Not a very good service. Took 1 hour and 20 minutes to make a bacon and sausage sandwich. Then when they finally severed me the food, it was a bacon sandwich without the sausage. Will not be going back

Such a lovely find. We had the cheese omelette for breakfast. Gluten free options on most dishes. Very clued up, was given a sheet with all the allergens om. Excellent service. Shame we don't live closer as we'd definitely go back.

Delicious brunch options. I had an omelette with ham, cheese, feta, spinach and mushroom. It was one of the best I've ever had. Others had eggs benedict, the full english and the mexican option. Everything was great quality

Had the Full English…. Couldn’t fault it! Thought the service by the colleagues was spot on and the wait time for food was excellent! Really nice look and feel to the place and a lovely temperature to eat in and remain comfy. If the breakfast was that good then coming back for main meals will be superb!

My usual place to take clients for lunch has now closed its doors, so had to look for a new venue thanks to a google search and a great phone to Alex at Ellisons I knew I had the perfect place Upon arrival to the upstairs Bistro received a very warm and friendly greeting from Alex that spoke to myself on the phone Seated straight away at a great comfortable roomy table Menus arrived and drinks order taken very impressed with the menu, we both selected the amazing steak sandwich The sandwich was perfectly cooked so rare with steak served with vegetable crisps and fresh salad so glad we also ordered the chunky chips some of the best I have ever tasted Myself and my client suitably impressed and my client is going to book with his wife at the weekend Great service Great Food Great Staff especially Alex who made our lunch faultless

Absolutely delicious brunch. I got the Ellison's triple (florantine, Benedict and Royale ) and my fiance got the sweet and savoury pancakes with a hash brown on the side. We were so impressed with how tasty the food was and how kind the staff were. Definitely going back!

What a lovely place, food is great. Fantastic value for money too. Plentiful too. If driving, park in Low Fell & walk up as parking limited & obviously need to think about the residents. Booking essential. Would probably go outside peak times so we could chat more as a little noisy when busy but not off putting! . Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. You will not be disappointed.

Wow….first time visiting Ellisons today, certainly won’t be the last!!! I had the breakfast hash, it was amazing so tasty, coffee was amazing too 😊 can’t wait to return

We came for brunch on Saturday for a hen party. The food and service were both excellent and our bride-to-be had an amazing time.

We have always had there Fantastic Breakfasts so decided to try Sunday Roast Lunch and it was delicious. Dave's main he had 2 meats, the Gammon & Beef, I had Prosciutto wrapped chicken breast, they kindly made it Gluten free for me by removing the Yorksire & Roasties but gave me extra truffle mash, it was so nice & both had carrot & brocolli, we had an extra portion of lovely Cauliflower cheese too 😋 . It was so nice we cant wait to to back. Great service as always too. Thank you everyone : )

I needed somewhere to kill some time by myself while my son was at an acting session, I frequent the area because of my son and always go for the easy option, chain coffee shop, 'Costsa fortune' and this time I wanted to find somewhere different, so where I could maybe grab something nice to eat and a real nice coffee or hot drink, I looked online and Ellison's came up, it was away from the main drag which is clearly why I haven't seen it before, but what a little find! I ordered myself a latte and a Brie, bacon and chutney sandwich, which they asked if I wanted toasted, yes!! I had a lovely little seat by the window downstairs, I didn't realise there was an upstairs, but apparently that's the restaurant area where its best to book for brunch etc everything was nice, sandwich was really tasty and the coffee was lovely too, I was able to sit for about an hour before I gave the table up which was booked in, the place filled up and there's was many people passing to go upstairs to the restaurant, obviously very popular, how could I have missed out on this little gem? Before leaving, with some cakes to takeaway obviously, I had a little look round the ajoining gift shop, there was pretty much everything you needed in there if you're looking for that special something, cards, jewellery, bags, homeware, toys and so much more, it was there that I got speaking to a lovely lady who informed me of their restaurant nights which are really popular and the fact that they've been voted top 15 places for brunch in the North by Living North magazine, which is no surprise really, now I know they have a larger menu to order from in a larger space upstairs I can't wait to try their proper brunch and I think I've told everyone I've come in contact with since about my little find

We were staying locally for a weekend and were recommended to try Ellison's for Brunch. We had a lovely visit, the staff were all so good. Hugely delicious choices on the menu, and they were as tasty as they promised to be. Excellent in every way.

Would strongly recommend Ellison's, having just had a great Sunday brunch here whilst visiting family. Others at our table really enjoyed their Full English, whilst my hask with chorizo was fab. Great service and lovely decor. Dinner menu looks good too.

The venue is nice and clean if a little sparten a bit like eating in someone's front room, the toilet was immaculate with nice hand wash, the service was a bit slow, the food was nice but nothing special considering how expensive it is compared to other places in Low Fell poor value for money IMO, would not be in a hurry to go back, food elsewhere just as good and with better atmosphere.

First and last time we will visit this establishment. Could not recommend. Nothing appealing about it; no atmosphere; food well below standard expected.

Lovely spot, one of the best in Low Fell. Easy booking system, enough space to move around, pretty interior too. Staff are polite and helpful. Food is delicious I’ve had a variety of things from here but see below for my steak sandwich. Not too slow either. This place is dog friendly downstairs which is great. Highly Recommend.

Top quality food, place and staff, definitely recommended

I attended here with my wife and having called ahead to check, we were allowed to bring our small dog to sit in the downstairs café part of the restaurant. The menu had all of these usual bunch items you would expect and initially when I looked at some of the prices, I thought there were slightly Pricey, £11 for salmon and eggs. However, I must say I can completely understand why, I’ve never had such fresh delicious produce. The yolks of the eggs were bright orange and the black pudding and sausage was absolutely delicious. Some of the best I’ve ever had. The coffees were okay, nothing massively special. Staff were friendly throughout. All in all I would certainly re attend for lunch or even dinner.

Myself and 3 friends have just had lunch from the Christmas menu and it was absolutely outstanding!!. Possibly one of the nicest Christmas meals I've ever had. Thank you so much.

Coffee catch up. Usual range of coffees and teas. Nice tasting coffees. Cheese scones were delicious and poached eggs perfectly cooked. Other food looked nice. Comfortable, bright and modern venue. Great service. Would definitely return and recommend for good tasting coffee and nice brunch menu.

Food is always amazing however, blonde staff member wasn't very helpful and unattentive, said she was supervisor but had to send different staff to sort a simple situation out. Guy with dark hair came to the rescue and sorted the situation out and was so polite and helpful. Been several times and always had bad experience with that member of staff. Food 5 star, staff 4 star, location 5 star. Staff who was young with blonde hair over charged at one sitting then sent management over Ryan I think who sorted things out straight away and was very nice. Overall good experience without the supervisors input.

This is a real gem and well worth a detour if you are in the area. It is a very nice cafe/restaurant in a good location with easy parking nearby. They have a comprehensive menu of interesting meals as well as the traditional standards such as the all day breakfast. I had the vegan breakfast which was delicious. As I’m not vegan I had it with eggs which made it even better. The meals were quickly prepared with very fresh ingredients and extremely tasty. I would certainly go back again.

Came for brunch and ordered the haddock and poached egg. The fish and eggs were stunning, and the hollandaise sauce tied the dish together perfectly. Staff extremely friendly and attentive; can't wait to return.
