Fantastic.lovely place . Had a fantastic evening. Enjoyed it so much that we're going back later in the week.

The food and staff is great just a little bit difficult to get there but we'll worth a visit

We went Sunday 12 Jan 2025 for Sunday carvery. Very disappointing for following reasons. Beef was tough. My friend had pork, tough. I assumed the mashed potatoes would be smoother in texture, these were not. Cauliflower cheese, bland, the whole meal was bland, tasteless and basically warm. So after about five minutes the lunch was cold. We have been here many times before in the past. I left most of mine as did another of my guests. The beef brought home for my dogs. Very Very Very disappointing to say the least.

I booked a table for 17.00 for myself and my wife. The restaurant had a very relaxed atmosphere and the service was excellent as usual. I chose the liver and bacon and my wife selected the Sausage and mash. I have to say that my liver was the best I have ever tasted it was absolutely delicious. My wife also said her sausage and mash was equally as good. If you have not tried this restaurant then give it a go, you will not be disappointed.

Found The Elm totally by chance for my Birthday and so pleased we did. The pub itself is charming and really cosy. The staff from the moment we arrived were polite, considerate, welcoming and friendly. We had their three course Sunday Lunch, really good options on the menu, really pleased to see options for various allergies, our meal arrived in really good time and all courses were totally delicious and well presented. Highly recommend, what a gem of a pub!

Called in at The Elm Tree Inn after a walk round Hardwick Hall. Staff were very welcoming and service was excellent. My wife had a lasagne and I had the full monty burger which must be one of the best burgers I have ever had. Will definitely be returning.

Booked for 3 of us and a mini labradoodle on a Sunday. Service was excellent. A superb varied menu. Two of us opted for the prawn cocktail followed by the pork Sunday dinner with a Yorkshire pudding as an extra.My wife had the garlic mushrooms followed by a chicken main course. You could tell that the food was enjoyed by all by the fact that the plates were as clean as a whistle! Would I go again? Most definitely!!

We visited the Elm Tree on Boxing Day. It was the first time I had been there (other family members had been before), and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The food was first class and the service was exemplary. Even though they were busy they were excellent, friendly and sincere.

Lovely food, caters for gluten free like me, very friendly, helpful staff. Background music just right, not too loud so people are having to shout at each other to be heard. A very pleasant evening with family, would highly recommend.

bad service bad food and not much of it, this must have be at least the tenth time we have been to the elm tree for a family get together and i will be last.

What a gem!!! Lived in the area for a few years. Can't believe I hadn't heard of this place. Quintessential English pub. Humming and busy. Staff were helpful and attentive without being overbearing. Dinner was freshly cooked and tasty. The salt cod and chorizo fish cakes were incredible. Garlic mushrooms on toast was great. Mushrooms not overcooked. But strong garlic taste. The Beef Wellington was perfect. The liver and bacon was great. Why then only 4 stars for food? The creamy leek side was rather watery and disappointing when compared to the Wellington. And the chips were a little soft. Cooked well. But soft. Maybe 3 times cooked chips would be better. But that's my personal taste. Will definitely revisit. Recommend you do too. But make sure you book. You'll need to.

Love this place! Have come several times, so much good food and enjoy coming to try new things. Small but comfortable, fresh food and I think the prices are reasonable. They do a great Sunday festive menu also. Staff are friendly and accommodating.

Called in for lunch on a Monday, it was lovely.

We had our Christmas meal at the Elm Tree pub, Pub it is, pub food it is not. The food is OUTSTANDING in every way. Quality fresh ingredients with the best sprouts ever. I love my sprouts! Well worth the money, great location and a private room to enjoy to yourselves.

Quality Sunday lunch today, great atmosphere, friendly staff and its on our doorstep, what more could you want.

Had my 40th birthday meal there yesterday. Couldn't reccomend it enough. Amazing food & great service.

Location hard to find but definitely worth the effort

The Elm Tree is a very nice pub, friendly people and staff and very good food for a reasonable price.

We were taken to the pub for my husbands birthday. Food and service were very good.

Fab food. Went early doors. Filling Up all the time so obviously a popular place.

Met friends for lunch and had a lovely meal. Never disappointed here.

Everything really good except for one strange thing. On checking the bill more closely later I found that I had been charged 1p each for the three glasses of TAP water given for "Service". If I'd known that at the time, I'd have taken 3p off the 15 pound tip I gave at the end. One pettiness deserves another?

Brilliant, even in Chris Norfolk's absence. The mark of a well run enterprise. Today's chef produced a wonderful meal for us.

We booked a table based on local reputation. We were not disappointed! Good food and OK prices. Possible to order from the Sundays lunch or a la carte menu. My liver/mash/veg was great. Others had roast beef which came with a great selection of hot and tasty veg. Drinks Ok too … pint of Black Sheep was a reasonable £4.40. Bill for 4 mains and 2 puds plus drinks (including bottle of nice Sauvignon) was £134. Give it a go!

Just had a lovely Sunday dinner at the Elm tree. It was one of family members 70th birthday celebration and everyone was raving about how good food was. Everything was perfectly cooked, the portion sizes were generous and the service was exceptional. Sorry I didn’t get the name of our wait staff but she was lovely and very attentive. My child and one of the family members have nut allergies and they were very careful with it too. Being able to use the private room upstairs without paying extra was a nice touch. Also dog friendly. Thank you so much and your pub has gone on top of my foodie list😊

We popped in on the off chance today without a booking. We received a really warm welcome and the food was fantastic. We all enjoyed our mains - they were good portions and high quality. We had previously come from another pub who didn’t have a table available for us who were really rude so we really appreciated the kind and warm service! Thank you so much! Highly recommend.

Myself and my 2 friends visited today at 2-45 We ordered from the Sunday lunch menu and had roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. Cannot fault the roast at all, it was lovely. However things took a slight turn when we decided to order dessert. Me and my other friend ordered the white choc blondie with salted caramel ice cream. What came out very obviously a jam sponge. It was dry, spongey and had pockets of milk chocolate with jam all over the top. I quickly told the waitress who was serving us, then she had to get the manager to come over who was so incredibly rude we left the elm tree feeling irritated. She came over to our table and snapped what’s the problem? After explaining the issue she confirmed we had the right dish and the pockets of melted chocolate were actually caramelised cake? I challenged her as it clearly wasn’t. She then snatched the plates away without saying anything. She wasn’t empathetic or understanding or accepted any kind of responsibility. Because of the poor service from this lady I won’t be visiting again

What a birthday evening late due to torrential rain floods everywhere. Main meal fabulous stuff excellent ambience of total darkness very romantic. Unfortunately due to the weather the village had a power cut.

A lovely pub and restaurant in rural Derbyshire village. We went for Sunday Lunch after a visit to Creswell Crags . Lived up to all the reviews the service and food were excellent and despite being very busy everything was managed and ran smoothly. We can highly recommend The Elm Tree and will be back ! Thank you

We have been twice now and both times it was brilliant. Scallops cooked to perfection, delicious and generous serving of lamb, really nice twist on the sea bass and beautiful pork belly. If I had to critique I'd love more variety on the cask ales but the wine list makes up for that!

Love this place it never fails to impress , booked for Sunday lunch and as always it was superb the food was delicious the service was outstanding ,also a special mention to Sue who keeps everything running smoothly she has great customer service and will do everything to make everything special .

Great food and a really homely place. We have been here many times for family events and funeral wakes - the staff are fantastic

Try to go for meal on the 3rd September about 12.00 noon the pub were closed and cars in the car .

Sunday afternoon for a party of seven. We had the delight of a private room upstairs, this was really lovely. The service was really first class. They guys and girls were really attentive and couldn't do enough for us. Most of the party went for the Sunday lunch which they said was fantastic. I went for the fish and chips, this was a really generous portion and cooked perfectly. Afterwards I had the key lime cheesecake which was so tasty and light. Overall really recommend a visit. Only downside were the scallops for starter 11 quid for two small scallops and three pieces of black pudding was a bit steep. Overall though good value and will definitely visit again.

Great food everyone enjoyed it was quite but it was Monday dinner time staff were lovely smiling and very good service would go again

Wonderful place for a meal and pint after a countryside walk. First time we have been here and will definitely visit again.

Well what a little find this was. Recommended by Coloured Cob Equestrian Centre we went for an evening meal. Would never have known it was there otherwise. Lovely old traditional building with a massive beer garden overlooking the open country side and nice seating area at side of pub as well. Bet it's lovely for a drink on a warm day. Staff area really friendly and a good menu choice at reasonable prices. Only grumble we had is it was very warm in the pub but they opened a window for us. Just don't go in a vest and jumper. Have you say the food was impressive tasty and well presented. We ordered a few side dishes which whilst lovely weren't needed as portions are generous. It's a bit of a trek from where we live but we will be back with friends.

Countless reviews I leave for the Elm Tree . Visited today for Sunday Lunch and I had the King Scallops and a beef roast. My partner had the prawn cocktail and also a beef roast . We had all the extras and it was outstanding as always. Our little dog loved the beef too . Thank you for an exceptional visit . As Always ❤️

Lovely dinner with family in very pleasant country pub. Service was good despite it being an extremely busy restaurant. We will definitely return.

Sunday lunch today we have only ever called for drinks before when walking in the local area. We had the Sunday lunch roast pork and beef and it’s the best we’ve had anywhere. Excellent service and value for money.

Lovely pub/restaurant, good food & service, spoilt for me by being charged 80p for a splash of Soda. Never, in all my years in this industry did I charge for soda, don't know how they justify it.

Was really looking forward to having lunch at the elm tree, sadly we were very Disappointed, food was just ok, nothing special for the price.. waitress really surly, not at all friendly, not an enjoyable experience at all.

Difficult to better this establishment. The above says it all.

Went for lunch today. When we visit the UK we always try and visit the Elm Tree. Food is consistently good. Today it was the scallops and black pudding followed by mains of cajun chicken, vegetable curry and venison cottage pie. You really cannot fault it. Delicious food, high quality ingredients and good pub atmosphere. Sticky toffee pudding with rum and raisin ice cream for dessert was wonderfully done. The Elm Tree is a great gastro pub, which has maintained its high standards over many years.

We have been wanting to visit the Elm tree for a few years and it's always been the case of "next week". Well, next week finally arrived today. We weren't disappointed. Nice little traditional country pub in a lovely location. Steeped in history. Was particularly busy when we arrived. We were seated immediately and drinks were ordered and arrived promptly. The Sunday roast was very nice. Nice decent portions and a good variety of vegetables. Only real negative from our point of view was that the meat and Yorkshire pudding were served on your main plate and the all the trimmings in their own individual serving dishes. Became a bit of a juggling act as the table was small and the dishes hot. Not to deter away from the fact that everything was really nice. Had the sticky toffee pudding with a really excellent rum and raisen ice cream. All washed down with an unusual white malbec. A little on the dry side but served nice and cold. 4 adults with mains and desserts 3 pints and a bottle of wine £136.

A RARE GEM . Beautiful pub , dog friendly, great atmosphere , really good food . Brilliant service from the staff . The pub also has a large outdoor area . And good parking. My family and I had a really good meal in our own room with dogs , and it was lovely. We will be going back and we have already recommended it to friends.

We have been here before, but it must have been 6 months ago. Far too long to leave. The staff are so pleasant and helpful it really makes it a treat. The menu has changed slightly since our last visit, but it is still an excellent variety. The food cooked perfectly and even the veg is so full of flavour! A decent pint of Black Sheep helped wash the food down too. We must not leave it so long next time.

Perfect country wedding venue! We had our wedding here 24th June 2023, and it was just what we wanted! Everything ran smoothly and on time. Chris, Sue and their team are fantastic! Chris was brilliant with food choices, tailoring to our requests and suggesting ideas for us to choose from. We had afternoon tea for our wedding breakfast and it was delicious! Just what everyone wanted on a hot summers day! We had a BBQ in the evening, which was also a massive hit! Cannot fault the food one bit, from only living down the road and regularly calling in for food and drink and we've never been disappointed, food is always spot on! Sue was brilliant at organising our wedding on the day, keeping track of the days schedule before and during the day. Waiting and bar staff were also very friendly, we had the horse box bar on the lawn which was brilliant too! Overall, we couldn't have picked a better wedding venue, thank you so much The Elm Tree at Elmton.

A gorgeous country pub with absolutely delicious food. We managed to secure a table at very short notice, quite late on a Wed evening as a family celebration. We were made to feel very welcome with great service. Caitlin and Jess looked after us and did a great job.

We visit The Elm Tree often, usually for a light meal mid-week or a Sunday Lunch. Portion sizes are generous - the chunky chips that are served with the sandwiches are a meal in themselves! The quality of the food is excellent, the best in the area - and we are lucky to have many pubs to choose from. But The Elm Tree is always our go-to choice. The food is fresh and ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible. The staff are attentive, without being intrusive. The customer service is brilliant. We are welcomed like returning friends. The serving staff are young but so professional, friendly and well-trained. I should have written a review before now! However, last week we booked a large - and very important - family reunion, which we asked The Elm Tree to host because we knew the food and the service would be first class. Sue and her lovely team did not disappoint! Arrangements prior to the evening were faultless. We felt we were in safe hands. The evening itself was perfect. We were looked after brilliantly by Ebony, who kept smiling all night! The food was exactly as we ordered, totally delicious and arrived piping hot and altogether- which is a big undertaking for a booking of 16! I cannot fault the quality, service or care we received that night. I will always be grateful to Sue and her team for taking such care of us and giving us a night we will all remember always. You really should go to The Elm Tree. You will be so glad you did.

We took advantage of the 25% discount on food bill but we're disappointed that the portion of battered fish we are familiar with, being very generous, was reduced to match the special offer price. I do understand that margins of profit are quite tight but I did see the offer misleading. Portions of food normally at menu prices are very good and can be highly recommended.

I must sound like a broken record but I can’t help but praise the Chefs and Service Staff at the Elmtree @Elmton enough, Once again Chris and his team delivered us an outstanding Meal and the service team were very attentive and helpful especially when I asked for alternative choices to the menu

Very nice place. Delicious fresh food. We went as a fairly big group at the last minute on a Sunday afternoon and they went out of their way to accommodate us- including our dog! I have been a few times with my husband for date nights and the food and service are always of a high standard. I hope they bring back that special chocolate dessert though as it was incredible, I was disappointed it wasn't on the menu today! Keep up the good work guys, we'll be back no doubt

Brilliant meals mid week and especially their Sunday lunch. I go must Sunday for their roast beef, great price £17 for the main course, you get plenty of food, very friendly staff. They can't do enough for you.

Always a great spot to stop after a muddy walk. Great food especially the mushy pea balls.

We came for a meal this evening, 23 March 2024, we arrived earlier than our table was booked for but explained we were happy to have a drink until the allocated time. The restaurant manager was not in the best of moods although she did kindly move us to another table away from the main door. My husband ordered the mixed grill, he left the gammon steak as it was so salty it was inedible, the other meal was the haloumi burger which was lovely. The manager complained to another guest that it had been 'a right awful day', but as guests of the restaurant you do not wish to hear this. An evening out for a meal is a treat for us and tonight was spoilt by miserable staff and not very nice food. It is a shame as you generally have a good reputation.

Sunday lunch lovely. Cannot honestly say I have enjoyed anything else. They need to change their butcher.

Returned to the Elm Tree with friends. We all thought the food wasnt as good as our previous visit. Staff were brilliant and the atmosphere also. Food just not as good as previous visits, Sirloin Steak wasnt the best, average, and the chips were a bit soggy. On the plus side desserts were lovely.

Went for meal, had a starter and mains and pudding,hubby had normal menu and I had the gluten free menu,staff as always are friendly, meal was delicious and Max our dog accompanied us as usual.

Top quality food, friendly staff.

I booked a table for 8 people for my Mum's 78th birthday. The staff were lovely and amazing. Food was stunning. And they even made Mum a cake. See photo. Lol. We lovely evening and I can't thank them enough. We will be back. 5 Stars.

First time we have visited this place, there was 5 of us that was dining and all chose different from the Sunday Lunch menu, 1 of being Coeliac, who had a good choice on the menu, all others where highly satisfied and would recommend the Elm Tree, we will certainly go back
