Ercan Fish Bar in City of London, Westminster

My order was missing multiple items, I then tried to contact the restaurant which I called 10+ times and no answer. Poor service go elsewhere

¡Lamentablemente, Ercan's ha pasado de la mejor a la peor tienda de chips bajo nueva propiedad! ¡El pollo, cuando se abrió, tenía una sangre corriendo desde el medio! Presenté una queja a través de Uber Come. La hamburguesa vegetal se quemó y las patatas fritas se cocinaron en grasa vieja con trozos duros en ellos! En una visita anterior se equivocaron de pedido y de nuevo las patatas fritas no sabían nada fresco. ¡Qué pena que haya bajado tan rápido!

Upon ordering my food I was asked to wait 3 minutes for fresh chips to be cooked... I waited 3 minutes and was then served... Upon opening my food box there were NO freshly cooked chips... just the old cold scraps and nothing else... What a poor excuse for a chip shop.. Avoid it like the plague there's plenty more decent chippies nearby.

Long term customer, food quality has gone down since new owners took over. Not going back anymore.

After paying £67 for food the chips had been re heated and were inedible. The fish however was good. Very disappointed

Order not complete and would not answer my phone calls when I tried to contact them several times and burger that was sent was horrible I would not use them again

I always drive to Ercan when we feel like Fish and Chips as theres is sooo nice.... Until now ! Yesterday I ordered Rock and Chips for my mums lunch for deluvery. The chips looked like the last lot of the pan with nil potato left inside . The fish which was over £9 looked terrible. That was not batter in the chips so overfried it could have been chicken. I knew something was wrong and thought maybe the Ercans went in holiday. That evening my brother and his wife bought fish and chips and came round to visit. The chips were the same... Dehydrated and the fish was overcooked in dirty oil. Now I know the owners have sold up I will not be going back. Does anyone know if they have set up elsewhere?

THIS IS MY LAST TIME ORDERING FROM ERCAN!!! They have sent me inedible food, burgers were cold and chips were hard. They dont put any effort into their food and it shows. They need to retire.

Recibí una orden de Ercan. El equipo fue muy lento y desorganizado. Pedimos 3 bacalaos grandes, 2 papas fritas grandes, guisantes machacados y salsa de curry. No habían preparado suficientes papas fritas para mi pedido, así que tuve que esperar a que se cocinaran más papas fritas mientras la mitad de la porción se sentaba en papel enfriándose esperando a ser envuelta. La piel rebozada de pescado estaba pegada al papel y no se podía separar por lo que terminó comiendo solo bacalao blanco. Los guisantes supieron horrible y podrido lo peor que habíamos probado y la posible causa de un malestar estomacal y diarrea. La peor cena de Fish & Chip de la historia, no volveré a pedir desde aquí.

Have used this fish shop for years always been top rate,however very disappointed tonight,chips tasted of old oil ,fish not their usual and sausage in batter seems to now be savoloy in batter.maybe new owners?

Food was awful, ordered a roll and got end of a loaf of bread, chips was hard and dry and fish was not great either...

Visited after 8 months and I must say it’s changed quite a bit since i’ve last came the service was great but the food really let me down the fish was soggy and wasn’t the same as i remembered

Used to be one of the best, came back here today and seems like new owners. We’re friendly but definitely quality has massively gone downhill. The worst thing was my haddock was actually still raw inside realising halfway through eating it - I was shocked and had to complain. Felt sick. What is going on with this place?

Since it has been taken over probably about 6 months ago it has been going down hill fast - I have been served a pasty that had less moisture in it then the sun has and have also been served food that has been cold. If it keeps on as it is, it will be closed by Christmas, which would be a real shame as it has been there for years.

Didn’t deliver 2 chips when restaurant was contacted said oh well next time will get deliverer correct.ruined dinner fish with no chips burger on its own binned it went and got my own dinner sod the cost won’t use these online deliveries again

Food is great BUT their hours posted online don’t match what they’re actually open. Don’t say you’re open till half 9 and not actually be open before half 9. Also their delivery takes at least half hour longer than what is estimated. It’s just disappointing because they’re a local fish and chips that was relied on but not anymore. Super sad.

Walked in at 8.30pm on Saturday evening, half an hour before closing time and boss man said he was closed. Absolute joke

Been coming here for decades, not anymore. With the new owners, quality of food has gone way down. Thought I’d give them a chance to settle in but have consistently been given refried chips that are brown/burnt and 80% of the chips are the hard end pieces. Fish has a different batter and mostly is soggy and oily now, no longer crispy. Sad as Ercan had a great reputation for quality fish and chips over the decades only for the name to be ruined in the span of a couple of months. Will have to find a new chippy to go to now.

Absolute filth. Chips cooked over and over. No actual chips, just crispy skin of a chip that’s been cooked several times and full of oil. Missing items. Ordered 3 saveloys and received 1. Chicken didn’t even look right. Pale and skinny and looked undercooked. Would never order again. Used to like it here. Really gone downhill.

Chips not fresh! I called up to ask for fresh chips as the chips I had received the last time I ordered were re-fried & not edible, the man rudely put the phone down on me.. chips arrived AGAIN were not edible. It’s really sad! Used to be a regular!

ERCANs has changed management. So sad after going there for decades. Unfortunately the battered cod is no longer crispy. Chips are soggy. Pies are no longer pukka or Peters. Calamari and scampi are poor. Lamachuns no existent. Poor standard compared to original staff.

New owners. Massive decline in quality, freshness and efficiency. Will review again on the 30th of September and provide an update for all long time goers of the beloved fish bar :)

He sido cliente en este bar de pescado durante muchos, muchos años, pero lamentablemente me llevaré mi costumbre a otro lugar. El cambio en la propiedad ha visto lo que una vez fue una fuente de papas fritas de pescado de buena calidad, bien cocinadas y bastante deliciosas convertirse en la peor oferta. El pescado sabía rancio, el rebozado estaba empapado, las patatas fritas sabían como si tuvieran días. Todo el orden era tibia y nadaba en grasa. Si hubiera existido la opción de anotarlo cero lo habría hecho. Qué pena y pérdida para el vecindario.

service and food have really gone down recently. chips were overcooked and hard, I also ordered and paid for a large portion and received a regular portion. the delivery was late, this was not the delivery drivers fault.

yet again items missing from our order. how can a large chips be left out??

order was incorrect missing one sausage in batter when ordered two and the chicken was overcooked and inedible tried to phone Ercan fish bar and cannot get any reply so overall not very happy with what we ordered and will not be using this fish bar again spent £41.49 on unsatisfactory order.

I am REALLY NOT HAPPY with what has happened to this place. Since my last review (below) there are new workers. Last time the portion of chips came much smaller than we are use to. I didn't say anything. Today we went home with A REALLY COLD PIE, fridge cold. My son has to wait for his food as it's in the oven, so he can't eat his pie at the same time as his chips. Never have we had to cook our own food. It's supposed to be cooked for £3.20 or else I'd have gone to the supermarket!!! The pie I received is now unbranded as well. And the chips feel like they have been recooked and chewy. The fish doesn't feel crispy as it should be freshly cooked. When I went here before it use to be our go to. NOW I AM ANGRY!!! I feel stupid for convincing my partner to try it again after last time. Ruined our dinner. Old review: HUGEEEEE portions. I ordered off Just Eat and didnt know the £8.50 fish already came with chips so ordered a regular chips and it was gigantic. My order was easily enough for two people imo. I also I use to go here all the time 10-20 years ago and I have fond memories of this place. I will definitely go here more often again now that I'm more local again.

If I could give 0 stars I would, thought we'd pop in for a chippy takeaway got home to a dead fly in my food, felt physically sick. Safe to say I'll never be ordering from there again. The staff were rude and couldn't understand a word I was saying to them.

I used to eat here quite often at least once a week then moved out of the area 2 months ago, I came back here today to find new faces behind the counter and found out the owners have moved on :( Let me start by saying the quality of the food has gone out of the window, I ordered fish and chips and that same quality just isn't there any more, my fish was soggy with no crispy batter and the chips didn't seem fresh. The saveloy had very hard ends and it just wasn't right. To top it off the Asian lady who served me gave me the wrong change back and was finding it hard to do a simple calculation so I had to break it down for her on my phones calculator. I don't think I'll be coming back here any more after this. The original owners kept this place alive with many years of history. What a shame....

With great sadness since the original owners have left the quality and standard of food has depreciated considerably. The fish and batter were not the same, extremely greasy and not crispy. The same goes for the chips, soggy and oily like they were left sitting in cold oil for too long.

Food was very disappointing, chips hard couldn't eat many. Rang up as ordered Nuggets by mistake, restaurant said they would swap for another quarter roast chicken but 2 southern fried spicy pieces were sent which I was unable to eat

I was so saddened yesterday the service is not the same the chips was horrible hard and was not fully cooked and texture wasn’t there to what I use to have at ercans the cod was ok slightly thin in size. The staff service not really welcoming and that was last visit to ercans

La gente solía viajar a lo largo y ancho para venir a esta tienda de chips. ¡Nunca más volveré a su tienda!

1st time ordering here, everything was fine, very big portion of chips 😊 my only bad negative is, the curry sauce wasn't very nice, no taste to it!

Delivery was great. Unfortunately the food quality has gone down. I’ve always used Ercans because it was the best. But this time in was really greasy, chips were soggy and the gherkin was minute, they’re supposed to be big and fat from a chip shop, not the size you get from a supermarket jar. Time to find a new chip shop it seems

Over greasy. Always get what I ordered. Chips seemed a bit old but got tons of them!. Kids were happy. Fish was delish however please use hotter oil for less time so it does not absorb so much oil. Always save some for next day. Packing was soaked n completely saturated in a very large amounts of oil. Also please try using ground nut oil. The difference is amazing. I kno a great business going for years that locals swear by n so do I. THEY use ground nut oil. Even celebrities go there it's so good. Shame they don't deliver as far as where I live.

Oh dear such a shame . The food here used to be delicous. Tonight we ordered 1cod 1 haddock 1 portion of chips and 2 gherkins. Poor quality fish batter like rubber . Chips were soggy and luke warm . What can I say about the 2 gherkins ordered .These came as 6 sour gherkins that you would buy in a jar from a supermarket . Used this shop for years unfortunately this will be our last

Since the change in owners, this place has gone downhill.. portions are a lot smaller, food is inconsistent and wait times are far too long even when the shop is not busy. Really disappointed as this was our regular chippie.

I have been coming here for years and was voted in 2023 the best fish and chips in the area. Since the new guys have taken the reigns in their blue logo printed shirts, this place has changed beyond believe for the worse. They don't know the names of the products they sell and have to point through the hot cabinet glass at what you want. The lovely original guys that used to greet their customers are now in the back of shop. That friendly service has now gone. The food is awful. Soggy batter on fish and sausages, even the cats would not eat it. Chips hard and dried out. I will not be returning. Sorry to say this Ercan, but this change to your once thriving business has ruined it. If something wasn't broken, it didn't need fixing.

Since the change of management, the queue is very long, and I think they are struggling. Hopefully these teething problems can be fixed. I can't wait for 30 minutes just for chips. It's a Fish and Chip shop.

Terrible service, we waited 15 minutes after ordering to be told that there was no veggie burger. They then tried to sell us as savaloy that we did not order and tried to charge us. Upon returning home we found the chips were undercooked, not salted, and soggy as they had been sitting waiting for 10 minutes. What a shame to see such a wonderful shop turn bad, we will not be returning.

I went there today and normal they are closed to my surprise it is under new management I order sausage and batter and chips the chips was like it they had been cooked twice the sausage and batter had think batter that was hard and the curry sauce was freezing cold sorry to say I will Not be going back

Beautiful light batter & perfect cod, served with fresh light golden chips(no hard difficult crispy bits) Temperature excellent & the tatare topped it off just right! Delicious & fantastic for a Good Friday Supper! Happy Easter to all the team at Ercan Fish Bar.

I've uses this chip shop since I was young n goin West ham at upton Park.. always been one of my fav chip shops. Big portions n very friendly staff.. Keep up the good work n low prices... Tara

This place has been here for a long time, the fish and chips is very good. Compare to a few doors away Mother Hubbard the chips, fish and battered sausage is very good. I find mother Hubbard chips and fish bland but the burgers and other items decent.

This place is right next to me and I love their fish and chips. Haddock is my go to

What an incredible fish and chips best in East London

Greasy spoon cafe style fish & chip shop that evokes nostalgia to many old customers. Established over many decades, with hardly as many customers once West Ham stadium moved over to Stratford. Fish is tasty, however, they do not offer the portions that British chip shop are known for and definitely not true representative of Turkish generosity either. It's sad that their service and portion dwindled as for their old and new customers.

Been going here for a while and the burgers and fish never disappoint 😩 staff are friendly

Always go here when in east ham. Still the same great service and portion sizes I recommend highly. Bought a chip butty and portion size was massive

Staff are always so welcoming, have also found them to be very patient and friendly with children too.

As always, it's a great traditional chippy dinner for family. Good value for money as portions are big, freshly cooked, and super tasty.
