Famous Old Spa in Weymouth and Portland

Do’t bother with the food. Atmosphere was ok and waiting staff very polite. But… the food was awful. I had Christmas dinner, all vegetables were frozen including the non crispy roast potatoes, this sprouts and broccoli were mush, and the one slice of turkey I could have used as a roof tile it was so hard. Prawn cocktail start tasteless. Even the bread was dry. My friends who had burgers said the fries were really dry, just like chip stick crisps!! It was pretty busy so not excuse really. Won’t be returning for tood any time soon.

Annoyed that I feel disrespected by the staff at the Spa. If you don't have what is advertised on the menu then I should have been given the opportunity to change my order, do not bring my meal short of what was expected and say nothing. The curry was watery like a frozen meal and the nan bread was soft in some places but hard like a crisp in others. I do not want to be contacted by you but treat people as customers that you value. Met my son in here for food and drinks. His burger was ok but my curry not so good. This place has hardly changed for 20 years and why should it. Normally food alright but curry not good, if they had mango chutney it wouldn't have saved the meal.

We had an amazing time with friends. The festive menu was brilliant proper turkey and the desserts sublime. The staff were incredible so professional and attentive. Be back in January with 12 of us. The facilities were very clean.

What a super Xmas function the Spa hosted for 36 of us. Lovely food & a super atmosphere. Will definitely visit again.

From the 1st contact to book our group of 37 for our Christmas bash all staff were so helpful. We were greeted by a member of staff on the night who introduced himself as the person who would be taking care of us. We were served swiftly which was great. Everyone, in stages, then went to the carvery to help themselves to veg as much or little as you wanted, so thank you from bar, front of house to the kitchen, we had a great night 😁

We use this venue alot to catch up with work events and meet ups. It’s always friendly efficient and a great place with great atmosphere !!!

A good night out with friends. Reasonably quiet, had a meal which was great. Maybe the portions were too large for the ladies, but advised to try the bite size meals next time. Us blokes were happy though as we polished off the left overs. Also it was the last day of the 30% off mains which was a bonus. That prompted an additional bottle of Shira between us. Winners all round. The England v Australia football game was on but not intrusive volume wise. A great night out and didn't have to shout to be heard. Well done to all at The Famous Old Spa, Weymouth.

ordered mixed grill - not available, changed to sirloin steak - not available. at the end orderd coffee plates still not cleared from table - had coffee looking st empty plates - avoid, this place used to be good be warned it has changed.

We had a carvery there today didn't eat most of it it was cold and not cooked properly the rest where white and hard very disappointed weus to come every week last year and it was a lovely carvery sorry but will not be coming again to wast money

Called in for a quick lunch time catch up with friends, we were served by Lorraine who was quick and efficient with a lovely friendly manner. Sadly didn’t eat this time, although the food I saw looked lovely. Very welcoming, new managers who are hoping to make it there own, given a little time

Lorraine G is tremendous and is the real heart of the pub. Always down to earth and willing to do anything to help anyone when needed. The pub itself has really turned a corner since the new management team have arrived and it’s now a pleasure to come into the Spa. It’s like the old days with a proper family feel.

Came here last weekend for a meal with the family and had Lorraine serving us. She was very attentive and catered to all our requirements. Highly recommend

Called in for a quick pint, nice to meet the new landlady, who was lovely, only been there a matter of days and things are already looking better. Lovely to see Lorraine behind the bar, working her magic. The Spa would not be the same without her friendly service.

As always we were met by the lovely Lorraine, as locals our drinks were poured by the time we reached the bar. We get a bus here as often as we can, the atmosphere is welcoming and everyone is friendly, the food is well cooked, we love it and we love Lorraine.

Had a lovely meal here, our Server was very friendly after a nice conversation found out her name was Loraine, she really took care of us

Popped in late this afternoon. Served by Lorraine. The pub was very busy, and she was on her own behind the bar, but was very cheerful and polite whilst managing really well, considering how busy it was. We were still served efficiently and with a smile. Lovely atmosphere from this pub.

Not impressed. Had a lunch size hunters chicken. Chicken was cold . Room needs updating. Odd furniture. Service good although was very quiet at the time we were in there

Family meal for 7 on a Sunday afternoon, food was delicious standard pub fare, reasonably priced, limited menu. The service was fine, and the staff were friendly and polite. Tables and furniture were a little well worn and could do with updating for a more pleasant eating experience. The only drawback for us as a family with young and old dining in the group was the football game that was being shown on the tv's and the exuberance of the fans watching the game.

The Spa is a lovely pub. Lorraine behind the bar was fantastic, great service and very friendly. Dogs allowed 😄 Unfortunately the food let the Spa down. What's happened in there?! We had a calvary, the meat was overdone and dry, flat Yorkshire puds, undercooked stuffing, cold veg, none seasonal like sprouts, parsnips, cabbage, even broccoli. Flavourless gravy. Probably won't go for another one, which is a massive shame. Been going there for years.

felt so homely in the pub and the staff where amazing, there was a lovely girl behind the bar called madison who really lit up my day with fab service and humour. honestly couldn’t have asked for a better dinner in a pub. 5/5 stars definately :)

Booked two people in advance and asked for table 6, when we arrived no table anywhere in the pub was booked for us. Took a table with no named booking on it and was unceremoniously told all the table were booked in one half of the pub. Appeared to be no vacant tables anywhere. Lady who moved us away told us we were not on her list so I assumed it was our fault!!!! If there was no vacancies they should not have accepted our booking. I can accept that table 6 may have been booked before I booked but no table anywhere!! Complained to the gentleman in charge who ‘sort of’ apologised. Have booked at this venue several times before and only once was a table booked for us but this time it was more of a problem because of how busy they were. Customer service is appalling.

Oh what has happened…. Where has the Famous Old Spa gone? Where are the decent, friendly and reliable staff? Do they know how to cook a meal? Do they know how to clean a kitchen? Do they know how to clean a toilet…? These are just some of the questions we had after going to the pub recently. What was once a great and friendly place to go for an evening out has turned into nothing more than a shell of a building which is dirty, unkept and needs one major refurb. The new management team which was brought in after Pascal left have been a total waste of time. They have brought staff in who have zero customer service experience (thank god for Lorraine G), these staff don’t smile, interact with anyone. They normally bitch to each other whilst behind the bar and try to find anything else to do except serve. The waiters will often just come and drop the plates on the table, without even providing cutlery then seem put out when you ask for some. The food is substandard, steaks are often badly cooked, chips are raw, burgers greasy so I hate to think what the kitchen is like behind closed doors. Now onto the toilets…. I don’t even know where to start, one word can be used”disgusting”. I don’t think they have been cleaned in months, toilet bowls stained, seats broken, toilet roll non-existent, floors soaking. The whole place needs a massive refurbishment and some money spent on it. John and Dan need to go, they’ve honestly brought nothing to the place and made it worse now than it ever was before. A 1 rating is not low enough to give for this pub. Avoid like the absolute plague

Arrogant / confrontational manager really poor beer . If you like well kept beer avoid this place at all costs . Visited with my Dad to watch the boxing. The first beer my dad ordered didn’t look great . He challenged this with the member of staff serving . Trying to tell her it was fine …. Even though it was obvious it wasn’t . She totally agreed and argued this with the manager . But he knew better and said it was fine …… Next round he ordered the same beer as me Hobgoblin, but while mine was clear and tasted fine, my father’s beer was noticeably cloudy. When he brought this to the attention of the manager, we were told that this is how Hobgoblin should look. I then showed the manager my own drink, which was clear, as further evidence that something was off with my father’s beer. Despite this the manager tried to explain this is how it shoud look …… seriously ? He then dismissively offered a replacement .. but the attitude given just made us want to leave . Major improvement needed before we ever set foot in there again

After a long drive down to Weymouth. Found this place to get dinner. Friendly staff, good selection of beers, food was hot & delicious. Spacious carpark. Only concern is pub exit to carpark is very dark, not easy on crutches.

Came in with our youth group leadership te for a planning meeting. Food was good service good staff friendly. My only comment was I hope the menu develops to include even more veggie options. There are some but if you are veggie I would suggest checking the menu online before visiting We will return 🙂

This place had space to book in a large table last minute on a Sunday for an impromptu family roast. It was evident why. Sadly, contents of the carvery were either unavailable (turkey, pigs in blankets) or just about edible. Green beans were brown and the yorkshires looked more like pancakes. I thought a nice pint would improve the experience but the razorback ale was grim. Sadly, won't return.

Always our go to for drinks or a pub lunch. Pleased they now allow dogs inside, always a good atmosphere and Lorraine is always chatty and friendly

Popped in for a few drinks, Lorraine as always was warm inviting and very friendly! She is an asset to the spa pub! Even more convenient now that are furry friends are accepted inside. So totally dog friendly too now.

Decent car charger and tasty pub grub. Dog friendly indoors and we were served by the very friendly Lorraine.

Went with grandchildren for lunch what a disappointment no chicken nuggets , dippers, or any chicken breaded item ?? Then when ordered the two items that came with baguettes they didn’t have baguettes. Really gone down hill not sure if they will be getting out custom again.

Very disappointing - don't go on a Sunday evening. Waited well over an hour for food and the steak was all gristle. Cutlery left in a heap on the table, no serviettes - 'they're due in tomorrow'. No Dippin donuts after they'd been ordered and paid. Couldn't hear ourselves speak due to volume of the quiz 😪

Looked promising on arrival the place has had a good clean with new chairs, however was served dried up mouldy tasteless salad, very disappointing as salad used to be good and full Of a variety of salad items, very overpriced at nearly £13 for dried up lettuce leaves and a few bits of cauliflower. No interaction with staff, food just dumped on the table and plates taken away without asking how meal was.

Lots of litter left in the playground whilst waiting for it to open. Once open the tables were very sticky and so were the menus even when I wiped them with my own wipes. When we went to the bar to order it didn't actually state that to have the deal *kids eat for £1* u couldn't have anything of the lunch menu . We asked if this was also the full menu and staff seemed very unsure so had to get the manager. I am able to have hunters bagette and still have the kids eat for £1 back in the west midlands.

Online booking ignored. Outside area very dirty with cigarette ends everywhere. Food ok but drinks watered down. Menu selection quite poor. Staff friendly. Atmosphere mediocre.

We have just had a.meal for 4 in the pub. I can only say it was dreadful. 2 scampi and chips. Scampi wasn't cooked properly it looked insipid and luke warm.Mushy peas were disgusting. Chips weren't much better. Steak and ale pie was mediocre. Fish and chips okay. Table was tacky and needed a good clean. Ladies toilet was disgusting. The floor was absolutely filthy. Understanding we will never eat there again. We are on a caravan rally nearby and people will ask us how we we found the pub. I'm sorry but we will have to say don't go there.

Popped in the Famous old spa last night what a difference 3 weeks make ! So lovely to see the pub looking clean & looked after! John gave us a warm welcome & interested in what we thought of our local pub Can't wait to see what the next 3 weeks bring!

We are Always served with a welcoming smile from Lorraine G and staff at the Spa. Lorraine seems to remember your face and your drink and makes you feel very comfortable.It's good to see that they have brought back the weekly special meal menu, also they seem to be cleaning up the pub to make it feel brighter in there.

Been coming to this place when we visit Weymouth. The food is always good and the staff are friendly. However the toilets are desperately in need of a refurb. Dingy paintwork isn't a good look. Pleased to see in the recent reviews that The Spa is to undergo a long overdue makeover. We were in there a couple of weeks ago while in Weymouth. Look forward to seeing the results.

We were warmly welcomed by John and served by Phoebe, who was amazing all night! We opted for the pie special that came with a drink and we're not disappointed. The pie was great. The chips were really good! Will definitely be back!

Quiet afternoon, but atmosphere was still very welcoming. Great beer, decent prices, sad Mixed grill wasn’t on but the Gammon was amazing regardless. Lorraine behind the bar and waitressing was absolutely fantastic. Reminds me of my sister, so down to earth and genuine! Thank you for your service and amazing fun nature. Thanks to the chefs and I believe Danny, who was also very welcoming. Love that it’s dog friendly too. Cheers very much. Be back soon.

We've been in weymouth visiting family for one night ( 3 nights to go) we've eaten in the famous old spa for 2 evening meals, then stayed on for drinks. Lorraine is attentive, polite and professional. The food is nice, and the atmosphere is comfortable. A nice clean, family pub, which allows dogs 💕

How the spa has changed in the last few weeks getting how it should be john and the team are friendly and nothing is to much trouble will be definitely returning
