Truly outstanding food and attentive but not intrusive service! A faultless dinner - fabulous venison, the aged Gruyère burger was historic (one of the best burgers I have ever had) and the toffee apple tarte tartin was superb. Service outstanding- all the staff were friendly and a credit to the establishment- and a nightcap Negroni in the stylish bar - this is clearly the best hotel and best restaurant in Woodstock - it leaves the competition in its wake!

The hotel was recently refurbished to a very high standard. We had a pre lunch drink in the bar/lounge where the staff were very attentive and friendly. Although it was the Sunday lunch menu, we opted for crab risotto and halibut mains. The only downside, due to the soft opening, was a lack of atmosphere but the food was excellent and we were looked after by Sophia. Fully recommend and we will be back.

A quiet and pleasant ambience for a reunion with an old friend. The service was first class. We had the trout salad and a cheese burger. The salad was fresh and ample, the trout was in short supply; the burger standard. We followed with ice cream - a well-presented but small helping. My glass of Italian wine was poor and following cappuccino lukewarm. We enjoyed the ambience for our reunion, but the food was expensive and unremarkable.

Everything from the food, service, ambience and new decor made for a delightful lunch. The staff were very friendly and welcoming whilst also attentive but not intrusive. The Food and Beverage Manager, Andy, was great. The food was simply delicious. The decor has changed dramatically. No more ‘70s carpet with bold swirls. The new colours are calming hues of browns and creams. Gone are the white table clothes and tower of tea cups that adorned the front window for so long. The outside spaces, front and back, have also had a huge facelift. The Robert Welch cutlery and individually picked plates and bowls set off the food beautifully. The extensive wine list also complimented the menu and was reasonably priced to be fair, with a selection of wines by the glass should you not want a full bottle. There was nothing not to like. Treat yourself and go and pay the Feathers a visit. The restaurant will now be known as The Nest, I believe.

Nice location and proper china/rose/fabric napkins, but let down by performance: asked us if special event (yes, birthday), and were given full menu when really we had booked us in for cream teas, giving us the impression we could choose freely from wider afternoon tea options - embarrassing, as we were a little more peckish than expected. Place was quiet, so we're a little underwhelmed. No mention of special occasion, so not sure of the effectiveness of the marketing team.

We had an excellent dinner in the Churchill room with locally sourced food innovatively presented and with pleasant service. Especially noteworthy were the varied amuse bouche, the hare starter and the asparagus with coddled duck egg. The mains of lamb and duck and the desserts were equally good and, while the portion sizes were not large, they were very well balanced and satisfying. An excellent, if a tad expensive, Godello wine and a couple of glasses of a good rioja completed an excellent evening in pleasant surroundings. Very good value on the D, B & B break.

We booked here on a Sunday evening -- Mother's day. Every place in town was full earlier in the day, and we were happy to find an evening booking. The place was empty when we arrived. The waiters were very nice, but ages of time would pass without us seeing them. We wouldn't see anyone at all, so couldn't even flag someone down. The child's menu listed a cheeseburger and fries. She got a burger with no cheese or anything but a meat patty and we had to wait another 10 minutes or so for her fries. This was after waiting quite a while for the adult meals as well. The canapes and bread were very good, but the egg in the cheddar custard was very under done. The sirloin was in four slices, one of which was entirely gristle. Took ages to get the bill when we finally decided to leave. Strangest of all was that there were only three tables in the restaurant that we could see, so we couldn't figure out why no one was ever around.

We came here on my partner’s special birthday as we were in Woodstock for a long weekend, and we had a good meal here many years ago so were looking forward to the evening.I had pre-booked a table for 2 at 7.30 but when I arrived on time was told I had booked for 8 and would I like to wait with a drink, but as we had just had a pre-meal drink in the pub next door I firmly declined and was grudgingly found an empty table. For a starter off the nibbles section we ordered olives and crispy pork, but were presented with the olives and a plate of crisps! When the pork did finally arrive it was very tasty. When we ordered main courses (I had blade of beef and my partner halibut) we were told there were no side vegetables served with main courses, so we ordered extra greens and some chips. When the blade of beef arrived it was served with mash potato so the chips were not needed and largely wasted.A very young bottle of Rioja at £26 was overpriced, and we felt a 10% service charge was adding insult to injury as the service was generally pretty poor. All in all this was not a good experience, and we felt they are living off a past reputation so hope ours was not a common experience.

Evening meal for us was a bit mixed with my meal having to be sent back owing to the fact the cod I ordered turned out to be the tail end that you probably would have given to your cat. That said the second serving resulted in three pieces of fish each twice the size of the original tail end, and superbly cooked. If you want a lift to upper floors and air conditioning this hotel is not for you. However if you want character this will fulfil the brief. Spent one night here having spent the day at Blenheim Palace. It took less than 10 minutes to get there from Blenheim. There is free parking on the street which is useful as they don’t have a dedicated car park. We had a free gin and tonic and two course meal included in our package. The choice of gin could have caused a meltdown as there were well over 100 to choose from however we only qualified for Cotswold Gin which was alright. You could always go through their stock at your own cost! The beer battered fish and chips and braised beef that we choose for our main course was very good and the apple and pear trifle with cinnamon custard was beautiful. The only down side was our bedroom and more especially the bed which we found really uncomfortable - there seemed to be a dip in the middle and the mattress was definitely lumpy. We also found it quite dark - there were two (possibly three) downlights with two bedside lamps and a lamp on the desk - none of which illuminated the room very much. That was the only drawback - the staff were friendly and the food was lovely. Afterthought - they need to change the music playing during the evening meal - it was still Christmas songs!

We both chose the Crispy Windsor Pork Belly, which was a perfect choice! When the food arrived, the presentation was second to none. I booked the Afternoon Tea with Gin & Tonic though the Groupon offer for my wife’s birthday. It was 30% cheaper than booking direct with the hotel. We went along and introduced ourselves to reception. The manager accompanied us through to our table and introduced us to the gentleman who would be serving us, he in turn showed us to our table. The ambiance was loverly and we were sat by the window to the rear garden, Everything was perfect, however I was surprised that the actual tea was fairly scant. We had three small finger sandwiches each, one smoked salmon, one egg and one ham. The scones were delicious although Fairly small, one plain and one fruit each. The pot of cream only just covered the needs and the jam was much larger. We had three small home made cakes each. The Gin and tonic was of high quality and exceptional. In all the experience was very good, however if I had paid full price then I would say it was expensive and not value. The normal cost would have been around £45 and I paid £30. It was a pleasant afternoon tea.

We had Afternoon Tea at The Feathers yesterday. I had contacted them to say my Husband had just been diagnosed with Diabetes and would it be possible for him to have a bit of fruit instead of the cakes to which they said it would be fine and it certainly was ! We expected a few strawberries or something but he was given a plate of fruit which included strawberries, raspberries, melon, grapes and pineapple which was well presented. My Husband was extremely pleased with it and to top it all the afternoon tea was delicious and the staff were all lovely too.

We only stopped in to try their Guinness record breaking gin selection. They had the gin, but the staff didn't really have the knowledge. Our of the 400 there were only two Old Toms and not a single bottle of the recent world gin winner Dingle. And a woeful selection of tonics.

They make extremely good gin tonics here - you must give it a try. The garden terrace is delightful and we had a super time sitting outside until late into the evening. Friendly staff and extremely accommodating. Relaxed and comfortable.

We spent a night here with friends and were not disappointed. The hotel is dog friendly and the room we had was spacious so no tripping over the dog or his bed! It is very centrally placed for visiting Blenheim Palace and there are plenty of other pubs and eateries in walking distance. We had dinner in the restaurant and they cater for a gluten-free diet. Our only complaint was with the lack of green spaces in Woodstock to let the dog do what a dog needs to do!! Would certainly stay here again.

Asked for a gin menu to be advised that I would have to look online. While looking at selection of gins barman/manager said in curt tone “not behind the bar please”. There was then a misunderstanding when we thought the barman/manager offered us to pour our gin, when we realised our mistake and apologies he was rude and gave us lecture. Total lack of hospitality on his part and a disappointing start to our stay.

We went here for small wedding reception. The food was really very good. I would recommend the steak which was up there as one of the best I have ever had which is praise indeed. Puddings weren't bad either, Service was discreet,

A lovely town, but I am afraid that The Feathers is not the hotel that we remembered. A lack of attention to detail and the restaurant is just not up to muster. The front of house staff were excellent, but the corridors to the room were shabby and the hotel lacked a sense of leadership.

Good location, nice staff throughout however the room was dark with only a fire exit for light. No window in the bathroom. The room was very hot overnight, a noisy air conditioning unit was installed in the room. This wasn’t that efficient and didn’t help.

My wife and I had a sandwich in the bar last week. The service was very slow taking twenty minutes before the bar man took our order as he was running drinks into the restaurant all the time.we both ordered the steak sandwich costing 10 pounds each. When it arrived the steak in the sandwich was tasty but not much of it. When we paid we were very surprised to see that they changed a service charge of 10 percent. I did not notice it on the menu that they charged this. I my self would rather give my own tip when appropriate not be charged when the service wasn't that great.

If I could give it less than one star I would. When we arrived we were told off for arriving at the time of our reservation because everyone else also arrived on time and we weren't allowed to order for another 30 minuets. We were then served freezing food that was sent back and microwaved - this was admitted when questioned. The other meals were not as on menu. Only one meal was deducted from bill. The waitress who was nice was treated horribly by other staff and was close to tears the whole time. Other customers also told us they were unhappy. Toilets were absolute filthy. Avoid like the plague.

Upon entering you quickly realise this is not a friendly restaurant the staff appeared to have had a personality bypass. We were immediately told on entering that there were NO eggs and since every breakfast item on the menu involved eggs this put paid to any notion of Breakfast. Surely any manager worth their salt would have read the situation and dipped into petty cash to purchased a couple of dozen eggs, instead they had to turn away business that, in the current climate I would have thought few companies could afford to do.

It was the first time meeting my daughters - boyfriends' parents and we wanted somewhere relaxed where we could eat, drink and chat - the Golden Eagle was perfect for our requirements. Service was good, staff were friendly, and the prices were even better.

We wanted to go to this pub for a meal sometime ago but unfortunately illness prevented us - but last night we made it and we had a really good meal with great service. We ordered a table in the restaurant as opposed to the pub itself as one of our party has difficulty hearing in a crowded room And it was delightful. The young, to us, waiters were fantastic and the food was equally as good. Herself and I had the ham terrine and the hake, which was probably the best hake I’ve had in a restaurant ever. The others had squid, mushroom risotto, ham and eggs all of which were terrific. I highly recommend this as a pub but also for its food and atmosphere, which is terrific. Thank you for a great evening.
